The Premiale Project "Science and Technology in Italy for the upgraded ALMA Observatory - iALMA" has the goal of strengthening the scientific, technological and industrial Italian contribution to the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), the largest ground based international infrastructure for the study of the Universe in the microwave. One of the main objectives of the Science Working Group (SWG) inside iALMA, the Work Package 1, is to develop the Italian contribution to the Science Case for the ALMA Band 2 or Band 2+3 receiver. ALMA Band 2 receiver spans from ~67 GHz (bounded by an opaque line complex of ozone lines) up to 90 GHz which overlaps with the lower frequency end of ALMA Band 3. Receiver technology has advanced since the original definition of the ALMA frequency bands. It is now feasible to produce a single receiver which could cover the whole frequency range from 67 GHz to 116 GHz, encompassing Band 2 and Band 3 in a single receiver cartridge, a so called Band 2+3 system. In addition, upgrades of the ALMA system are now foreseen that should double the bandwidth to 16 GHz. This booklet contains a collection of contributions to the meeting of the JEts and Disks at INAF (JEDI) group, which took place at the Capodimonte Observatory during 9-10 April 2015. Scope of the meeting was to bring together the JEDI researchers of the Italian Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF) working in the field of circumstellar disks and jets in young stars, to discuss together the different agents affecting the structure and the evolution of disks, namely accretion, jets and winds. Our objective was to assess the association between amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and other neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease (AD), frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and Parkinson's disease (PD). From May 2007 through August 2012 we investigated 146 patients with newly diagnosed ALS and 146 age- and gender-matched controls. Each individual was screened for cardinal extrapyramidal signs (neurological examination) and cognitive dysfunction (Mini Mental State Examination, MMSE and Frontal Assessment Battery, FAB). Results demonstrated that rigidity was present in 8.2% of cases and 2.1% of controls (adjusted odds ratio, adjOR 5.7; 95% CI 1.5-22.0). The corresponding percentages for bradykinesia and postural instability were, respectively, 8.2 vs. 2.7% (adjOR 4.8; 95% CI 1.4-16.5) and 2.7 vs. 9.6% (adjOR 0.3; 95% CI 0.1-0.9). FAB ≤ 13.4 was recorded in 24.8 vs. 9.6%; adjOR 2.9; 95% CI 1.5-5.7). Tremor and abnormal FAB score were predicted by an older age at onset while an abnormal FAB score was associated with cramps and family history of neurodegenerative diseases. In conclusion, our data support the notion that newly diagnosed ALS carries a higher than expected risk of extrapyramidal signs and FTD.

Objective: The present study is the result of theory-driven research investigating the role of the search for and presence of meaning in enhancing both mental adjustment and eudaimonic well-being in cancer patients. Method: A cross-sectional study involved 266 cancer patients currently in the treatment and management phase of their illness. Data were collected by a written questionnaire. The search for meaning was assessed with the Seeking of Noetic Goals Test, and the presence of meaning was assessed using the Purpose in Life Test. Mental adjustment to a cancer diagnosis was assessed by two subscales of the Italian version of the Mini-Mental Adjustment to Cancer Scale, and eudaimonic well-being was assessed with the Psychological Well-Being Scale. Correlation and mediation analyses based on five thousand bootstrapping samples were performed. Results: The mediation analyses showed that the presence of meaning totally or partially mediated the effect of the search for meaning on both mental adjustment and eudaimonic well-being. Further correlation analyses showed a high negative correlation between eudaimonic well-being and hopelessness. Significance of results: Our results appear relevant from both the theoretical and clinical points of view. They support a deeper understanding of the combined contribution of the search for and presence of meaning in promoting well-being in cancer patients. Simultaneously, they are consistent with suggestions from recent studies on the clinical psychology of posttraumatic growth and emphasize the relevance of eudaimonic well-being as a protective factor for hopelessness.

The phase behaviour of inverse patchy colloid systems composed of spherical particles with two oppositely charged patches at the poles is investigated by simulation-based thermodynamic integration schemes. The interaction between the particles is derived via a coarse-grained model characterized by three system parameters: the charge imbalance between the bare colloid and the patches, the patch surface extension and the particle interaction range. Starting from a set of parameters for which a stacking of parallel layers is thermodynamically stable, the effect of each of these three parameters on the phase diagram is studied. Our results show that the region of stability of the layered solid phase can be expanded by increasing the charge imbalance and/or by reducing the interaction range. A larger patch size, on the other hand, stabilizes the layered structure with respect to the competing face centered cubic solid at high pressures but destabilizes it with respect to the fluid phase at low pressures. The location of the liquid-vapour critical point in the temperature versus density plane is also investigated: while the charge imbalance and the patch size affect mainly the critical density, a change of the interaction range has a substantial impact also on the critical temperature.
