Diffusion model (DM) has achieved SOTA performance by modeling the image synthesis process into a sequential application of a denoising network. However, different from image synthesis generating each pixel from scratch, most pixels of image restoration (IR) are given. Thus, for IR, traditional DMs running massive iterations on a large model to estimate whole images or feature maps is inefficient. To address this issue, we propose an efficient DM for IR (DiffIR), which consists of a compact IR prior extraction network (CPEN), dynamic IR transformer (DIRformer), and denoising network. Specifically, DiffIR has two training stages: pretraining and training DM. In pretraining, we input ground-truth images into CPEN$_{S1}$ to capture a compact IR prior representation (IPR) to guide DIRformer. In the second stage, we train the DM to directly estimate the same IRP as pretrained CPEN$_{S1}$ only using LQ images. We observe that since the IPR is only a compact vector, DiffIR can use fewer iterations than traditional DM to obtain accurate estimations and generate more stable and realistic results. Since the iterations are few, our DiffIR can adopt a joint optimization of CPEN$_{S2}$, DIRformer, and denoising network, which can further reduce the estimation error influence. We conduct extensive experiments on several IR tasks and achieve SOTA performance while consuming less computational costs.

The widespread emergence of smart devices for ECG has sparked demand for intelligent single-lead ECG-based diagnostic systems. However, it is challenging to develop a single-lead-based ECG interpretation model for multiple diseases diagnosis due to the lack of some key disease information. In this work, we propose inter-lead Multi-View Knowledge Transferring of ECG (MVKT-ECG) to boost single-lead ECG's ability for multi-label disease diagnosis. This training strategy can transfer superior disease knowledge from multiple different views of ECG (e.g. 12-lead ECG) to single-lead-based ECG interpretation model to mine details in single-lead ECG signals that are easily overlooked by neural networks. MVKT-ECG allows this lead variety as a supervision signal within a teacher-student paradigm, where the teacher observes multi-lead ECG educates a student who observes only single-lead ECG. Since the mutual disease information between the single-lead ECG and muli-lead ECG plays a key role in knowledge transferring, we present a new disease-aware Contrastive Lead-information Transferring(CLT) to improve the mutual disease information between the single-lead ECG and muli-lead ECG. Moreover, We modify traditional Knowledge Distillation to multi-label disease Knowledge Distillation (MKD) to make it applicable for multi-label disease diagnosis. The comprehensive experiments verify that MVKT-ECG has an excellent performance in improving the diagnostic effect of single-lead ECG.

Background. Gandoufumu decoction (GDFMD) is a traditional Chinese medicine that has been widely used to treat Wilson’s disease (WD) liver damage patients. However, its specific molecular mechanism currently remains unclear. Autophagy as a key contributor to WD liver damage has been intensely researched in the recent years. Therefore, the aim of this present study is to explore the effect of GDFMD on autophagy in WD liver damage, and the final purpose is to provide scientific evidence for GDFMD treatment in WD liver damage. Methods. The molecular mechanisms and autophagy-related pathways of GDFMD in the treatment of WD liver damage were predicted using network pharmacology. Copper assay kit was used to determine copper content in serum. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was utilized to quantify serum levels of liver enzymes and oxidative stress-related indicators. Hematoxylin-eosin (HE), Masson, and Sirius red staining were used for the characterization of liver pathological changes. Transmission electron microscopy, immunofluorescence, and Western blot analyses were used to evaluate autophagy activity. The impact of the GDFMD on typical autophagy-related pathway (PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway) molecules was also assessed via Western blot analysis. Results. GDFMD effectively attenuated serum liver enzymes, oxidative stress, autophagy, and degree of hepatic histopathological impairment and reduced serum copper content. Through network pharmacological approaches, PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway was identified as the typical autophagy-related pathway of GDFMD in the treatment of WD liver damage. Treatment with GDFMD activated the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway, an effect that was able to be counteracted by LY294002, a PI3K antagonist or Rapa (rapamycin), an autophagy inducer. Conclusions. GDFMD imparted therapeutic effects on WD through autophagy suppression by acting through the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway.

Due to the limitations of capture devices and scenarios, egocentric videos frequently have low visual quality, mainly caused by high compression and severe motion blur. With the increasing application of egocentric videos, there is an urgent need to enhance the quality of these videos through super-resolution. However, existing Video Super-Resolution (VSR) works, focusing on third-person view videos, are actually unsuitable for handling blurring artifacts caused by rapid ego-motion and object motion in egocentric videos. To this end, we propose EgoVSR, a VSR framework specifically designed for egocentric videos. We explicitly tackle motion blurs in egocentric videos using a Dual Branch Deblur Network (DB$^2$Net) in the VSR framework. Meanwhile, a blurring mask is introduced to guide the DB$^2$Net learning, and can be used to localize blurred areas in video frames. We also design a MaskNet to predict the mask, as well as a mask loss to optimize the mask estimation. Additionally, an online motion blur synthesis model for common VSR training data is proposed to simulate motion blurs as in egocentric videos. In order to validate the effectiveness of our proposed method, we introduce an EgoVSR dataset containing a large amount of fast-motion egocentric video sequences. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our EgoVSR model can efficiently super-resolve low-quality egocentric videos and outperform strong comparison baselines. Our code, pre-trained models, and data will be released.

Limited by imaging systems, the reconstruction of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) images from partial measurement is essential to medical imaging research. Benefiting from the diverse and complementary information of multi-contrast MR images in different imaging modalities, multi-contrast Super-Resolution (SR) reconstruction is promising to yield SR images with higher quality. In the medical scenario, to fully visualize the lesion, radiologists are accustomed to zooming the MR images at arbitrary scales rather than using a fixed scale, as used by most MRI SR methods. In addition, existing multi-contrast MRI SR methods often require a fixed resolution for the reference image, which makes acquiring reference images difficult and imposes limitations on arbitrary scale SR tasks. To address these issues, we proposed an implicit neural representations based dual-arbitrary multi-contrast MRI super-resolution method, called Dual-ArbNet. First, we decouple the resolution of the target and reference images by a feature encoder, enabling the network to input target and reference images at arbitrary scales. Then, an implicit fusion decoder fuses the multi-contrast features and uses an Implicit Decoding Function~(IDF) to obtain the final MRI SR results. Furthermore, we introduce a curriculum learning strategy to train our network, which improves the generalization and performance of our Dual-ArbNet. Extensive experiments in two public MRI datasets demonstrate that our method outperforms state-of-the-art approaches under different scale factors and has great potential in clinical practice., Comment: Accepted by MICCAI2023
