Abstract

The vertical surface is a common and typical characteristic structure among Nomex honeycomb core components. However, the conventional high-speed milling and ultrasonic cutting struggle to meet the high-quality machining requirements of a vertical surface. In this study, an ultrasonic trepanning method is proposed and a special ultrasonic trepanning tool is developed, aiming to improve the machining quality of the vertical surface. The trepanning quality of the vertical surface is further studied from the aspects of dimensional error and trepanning incision quality. Based on the kinematic characteristics of ultrasonic trepanning, a theoretical model of dimensional error in trepanning is established. Meanwhile, the influence of ultrasonic vibration on the trepanning process is analyzed, and the result shows that ultrasonic vibration significantly improves the equivalent elastic constant of the honeycomb core material. The theoretical model is proposed to predict the trepanning dimensional error, which is verified by experiment. The effectiveness of the ultrasonic vibration on the incision quality is verified by several experiments, and the quantitative analysis results demonstrate that ultrasonic vibration significantly improves the trepanning quality of the vertical surface.

Abstract

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated that viral diseases represent an enormous public health and economic threat to mankind and that individuals with compromised immune systems are at greater risk of complications and death from viral diseases. The development of broad-spectrum antivirals is an important part of pandemic preparedness. Here, we have engineer a series of designer cells which we term autonomous, intelligent, virus-inducible immune-like (ALICE) cells as sense-and-destroy antiviral system. After developing a destabilized STING-based sensor to detect viruses from seven different genera, we have used a synthetic signal transduction system to link viral detection to the expression of multiple antiviral effector molecules, including antiviral cytokines, a CRISPR-Cas9 module for viral degradation and the secretion of a neutralizing antibody. We perform a proof-of-concept study using multiple iterations of our ALICE system in vitro, followed by in vivo functionality testing in mice. We show that dual output ALICESaCas9+Ab system delivered by an AAV-vector inhibited viral infection in herpetic simplex keratitis (HSK) mouse model. Our work demonstrates that viral detection and antiviral countermeasures can be paired for intelligent sense-and-destroy applications as a flexible and innovative method against virus infection. Abstract

Random Permutation Set is a newly proposed method for handling uncertainty, which considers the order of the elements in evidence. However, how to fuse RPSs efficiently is still an open issue. To solve this problem, the space composed of order code is defined. Then the mutual mappings between this space and permutation event space are also presented. Finally, the new orthogonal sum is proposed. Compared with the existing left orthogonal sum, the new orthogonal sum can obtain more accurate results with lower entropy and deal with extreme situations. Abstract

• A multifunctional exothermic bioactive nanoglass was reported for therapy-regeneration. • The bioactive nanoglass showed antimicrobial, antioxidant, photothermal, angiogenic activity. • The bioactive nanoglass exerts oxidative stress alleviation in vivo by activating the Nrf2 pathway. • The exothermic bioactive nanoglass system could efficiently promote tissue regeneration in MRSA-infected wounds repair. • The tissue repair mechanism was attributed to the thermo-ions coordination pathway. The efficient repair and tissue regeneration of chronic infected wounds is still a major challenge, among which the bacterial infection, inflammation and oxidative stress induced poor angiogenesis are the key obstacles. The nanosystem with single repair pathway could not meet the requirement of regenerating complicated wound tissue. Herein, we construct an photothermal multifunctional bioactive nanoglass (BGN) with the metal polyphenol coordination surface to treat methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus （MRSA）infected wound. The BGN was coated with copper (Cu) coordinated polydopamine (PDA-Cu) to bioactive BGN@PDA-Cu nanoparticles, which release bioactive ions (Ca2+, SiO 4 4- and Cu2+) and show the robust antibacterial/antioxidant/mild photothermal activities. BGN@PDA-Cu possesses the strong MRSA inhibition, reactive oxygen species scavenging, mild photothermal stimulation (41℃) and hemostatic ability. The antioxidant activity, thermal stimulation and sustainable bioactive ions release could significantly reverse the inflammatory phenotype of macrophage and enhance the angiogenesis through the activation of hypoxia-inducible factor HIF-1α and heat shock protein HSP90 pathways. The in vivo MRSA infected wound model demonstrated that BGN@PDA-Cu could significantly inhibit the MRSA infection and accelerate the wound repair which has 2 times improvement on healing rate compared with commercial bioglass dressing. This work demonstrates that bioactive ions release combined with mild thermal stimulation is a promising strategy to design multifunctional bioactive biomaterials for angiogenetic tissue regeneration. Abstract

We reveal a prethermal temporal regime upon suddenly quenching to the vicinity of a quantum phase transition in the time evolution of 1D spin chains. The prethermal regime is analytically found to be self-similar, and its duration is governed by the ground-state energy gap. Based on analytical insights and numerical evidence, we show that this critically prethermal regime universally exists independently of the location of the probe site, the presence of weak interactions, or the initial state. Moreover, the resulting prethermal dynamics leads to an out-of-equilibrium scaling function of the order parameter in the vicinity of the transition., Revised with an analytical theory and improved presentation. Abstract

Ultrasonic cutting with a straight blade is an advanced method for cutting Nomex honeycomb cores. However, crushing has generally been observed on the machining surface of the honeycomb core during ultrasonic cutting (UC). In this paper, to avoid crushing, a new blade-inclined ultrasonic cutting (BIUC) method is proposed to decrease the geometric interference between the cutting tool and the honeycomb cores. The cutting geometry systems of UC and BIUC with a straight blade are systematically established to study the effect of the cutting geometry on the machining quality. The crushing degrees caused by the major flank under different tool orientations in UC and BIUC are analyzed. The causes of crushing during the machining of the honeycomb core were revealed from the aspects of machining quality, cutting force, and geometric interference between the major flank and the material. Experiments involving the quantitative analysis of the crushing and cutting forces verify that the BIUC method is able to avoid crushing by controlling the cutting angle. This paper provides a new method for solving the crushing problem in machining honeycomb core with a straight blade.

Abstract

Recently, single-site observables have been shown to be useful for the detection of dynamical criticality due to an emergence of a universal critically-prethermal temporal regime in the magnetization [arXiv:2105.05986]. Here, we explore the potential of single-site observables as probes of quantum phase transitions in integrable and nonintegrable transverse-field Ising chains (TFIC). We analytically prove the requirement of zero modes for a quasi-stationary temporal regime to emerge at a bulk probe site, and show how this regime gives rise to a non-analytic behavior in the dynamical order profiles. Our $t$-DMRG calculations verify the results of the quench mean-field theory for near-integrable TFIC both with finite-size and finite-time scaling analyses. We find that both finite-size and finite-time analyses suggest a dynamical critical point for a strongly nonintegrable and locally connected TFIC. We finally demonstrate the presence of a quasi-stationary regime in the power-law interacting TFIC, and extract local dynamical order profiles for TFIC in the long-range Ising universality class with algebraic light cones., Comment: 22 pages, 23 figures.
