Given the evidence for the motivating influence of electronic gaming machines (EGM) jackpots on intensifying player behaviour (Rockloff and Hing in J Gambl Stud 1-7, 2013), there is good reason to explore consumer-protection features. Jackpot Expiry is a potential feature of a mandatory pre-commitment system or player identification system (e.g., loyalty program) whereby the availability of jackpots expires after a fixed interval of play. One hundred and thirty volunteers (males = 56, females = 74) played a laptop-simulated EGM with a starting $20 real-money stake. In the test condition, players were shown a "relevant" message stating that the promised jackpot had expired and could no longer be won by the participant (after the 20th trial). In the irrelevant message condition a similar pop-up message simply said to push the button to continue. Lastly, a control condition had no pop-up message about the jackpot expiring. The results showed that betting speeds (one indicator of gambling intensity) were significantly slowed by the relevant 'expiry' message. Most importantly, all wagers past the 20th trial were programmed as losses. Player receiving the 'expiry' message for a cash jackpot quit with significantly more money remaining on the machine. Therefore, jackpot expiry was effective in limiting player losses, while there was no evidence that jackpot expiry reduced self-rated player enjoyment of the simulated EGM experience. In this paper, we propose a UWB(Ultra Wide Band) antenna with CPW(Coplanar Waveguide) structure notched the 802.11a(5.15 ~ 5.825 GHz) band by using the U shaped slot. The proposed antenna not only shows Ultra-Wideband characteristic(3.1 ~ 10.6 GHz) suitable for UWB communications but has partially notched-band characteristic to reject 5 GHz WLAN band(5.15 ~ 5.825 GHz). The antenna is designed on an FR-4 substrate of which the dielectric constant is 4.4, and its overall size is 30mm(W) × 20mm(L) × 1mm(t). Fabricated antenna satisfied VSWR≤2 in 3.1 ~ 10.6 GHz except for the band rejection of 5.15 ~ 5.825 GHz. And measured results of gain and radiation patterns characteristics displayed determined for operating bands. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents aperture coupled microstrip antenna with three resonants. The antenna bandwidth has been enhanced due to clip in the patch edges and varies the current distribution well in order to create the third resonant. There is a compromise between radiation characteristics and the antenna bandwidth. These two factors have been optimized in designed and fabricated samples. E-plane and H-plane patterns indicate the appropriate propagation pattern of antenna is between 1.3 to 2.3 GHz frequency band, which clarifies achieved bandwidth more than 53% by using certain method in the novel one radiating element. Of course, there is bandwidth enhancement up to this limit by utilization of multiple radiating elements. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Antennas are becoming crucial in an increasingly growing number of applications namely with the emerging of the wireless internet communications where efficiency, compactness and cost play a decisive role. Nonetheless a major drawback of such solutions is that the aforementioned criteria are hard to simultaneously optimize. In this paper an innovative approach relying on using circularly bent rectangular slotted waveguide antenna as an ultimate alternative is presented that allows drastically enhancing the ratio of performance versus cost and size. Simulation results were carried out at 2.4 GHz frequency and indubitably demonstrated high effectiveness in terms of directivity and high gain given a reduced cost, shape and size. Efficient Time-Domain techniques based on the Method of Moments are presented in this paper at the aim to predict the electromagnetic responses of a communication system while invoking the coupling between these components. This system is composed of a rectangular cavity containing an interior scatterer coupled to an external scatterer through a slot mounted on a cavity wall. In order to make the problem mathematically tractable, Time-Domain Electric Field Integral Equations based on the equivalence principle and the boundary conditions are developed. Thus, the Method of Moments is applied in space and time-domains to solve the equation system. In time-domain, the temporal part of the unknown coefficients is expressed as linear combination of: the Laguerre functions in the first solution and the B-Spline functions in the second one. The transient responses of the system are obtained by the two proposed techniques. In the light of the comparison results, the Laguerre functions are shown to be the more accurate. Based on these functions, a coupling study between the components of the proposed system is conducted. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

- Abstract
A novel frequency reconfigurable slotted patch antenna structure is presented here. The slots made on the aperture of the antenna are made to orient by making their axis as reference either in clockwise or anti-clockwise direction. This orientation distributes the surface currents in different ways resulting in change of its resonance frequency. This antenna is designed to operate in L-band microwave frequency region. The proposed structure is designed and simulated in HFSS software and detailed analysis is done. Obtained results indicate that there is a change in operating frequency as a function of angle of orientation of the slotted section, without affecting the radiation pattern. Various other parameters of the antenna are also simulated as a function of slotted section orientation and these results are tabulated and presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ABSTRACT In this article, two slot antennas with different feed are presented. First, a triple band Microstrip slot antenna with SRR shape ring and with simple feed is presented. The prototype antenna is designed for wireless communication such as IEEE 802.11(g/b/a), WIMAX, and GPRS application with linear polarization. The bandwidths are around 5.1% for 1.93 GHz (1880-1980), 35.4% for 2.75 GHz (2400-3100 MHz) and 28% for 5.7 GHz (4900-6500 MHz) for first antenna. Conversely, the second antenna shows circular polarization for WiMAX application and bandwidth around 5% (3.66-3.84 GHz). Simulation results show the effect of SRR layer on gain enhancement in comparison to conventional slot antenna. The antenna has bidirectional pattern with high gain for wireless applications. Here SRR and ring structure effect on gain improvement is noticed and in the other hand efficiency is studied for all structures. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ABSTRACT In this article, a planar monopole antenna very close to the ground plane of mobile handsets is presented. Multiband operation is achieved by controlling the magnetic coupling between the feed structure and antenna structure with a slot structure and inductor. Measurements demonstrate that the proposed antenna possesses frequencies of 228 MHz (813-1041 MHz) and 601 MHz (1643-2244 MHz) with a voltage standing wave ratio of three even though the size of the proposed antenna is only 60 × 7 mm2. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper, we address problems of efficient computing in distributed systems with non-dedicated resources including utility grid. There are global job flows from external users along with resource owner's local tasks upon the resource non-dedication condition. Competition for resource reservation between independent users, local and global job flows substantially complicates scheduling and the requirement to provide the necessary quality of service. A metascheduling concept, justified in this work, assumes a complex combination of job flow dispatching and application-level scheduling methods for parallel jobs, as well as resource sharing and consumption policies established in virtual organizations and based on economic principles. We introduce heuristic slot selection and co-allocation strategies for parallel jobs. They are formalized by given criteria and implemented by algorithms of linear complexity on an available slots number. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this article, analysis of slot loaded compact rectangular patch antennas have been presented theoretically using circuit theory concept. The theoretical investigations of L-strip fed slot loaded compact rectangular microstrip patch antenna parameters such as return loss, VSWR, radiation pattern have been calculated. It is found that antenna resonates at 2.95 GHz and 6.01 GHz for lower and upper resonance frequencies respectively. The bandwidth of the L-strip fed slot loaded compact rectangular microstrip patch antenna at lower resonance frequency is 1.16% (simulated) and 10.16% (theoretical) whereas at upper resonance frequency, it is 1.5% (simulated) and 2.51% (theoretical). The characteristics of the L-strip fed slot loaded compact rectangular microstrip patch antennas is compared with other rectangular patch antennas. Circuit diagram of this antenna is proposed, fabricated and simulated using AWR circuit simulator. The theoretical results are compared with IE3D and AWR simulation results along with measured results and they are in close agreement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this work, we introduce slot selection and co-allocation algorithms for parallel jobs in distributed computing with non-dedicated resources. A single slot is a time span that can be assigned to a task, which is a part of a job. The job launch requires a co-allocation of a specified number of slots starting synchronously. The challenge is that slots associated with different CPU nodes of distributed computational environments may have arbitrary start and finish points that do not match. Some existing algorithms assign a job to the first set of slots matching the resource request without any optimization (the first fit type), while other algorithms are based on an exhaustive search. In this paper, algorithms for effective slot selection of linear complexity on an available slots number are studied and compared with known approaches. The novelty of the proposed approach consists of allocating alternative sets of slots. It provides possibilities to optimize job scheduling. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Equivalent Circuit (EC) method gives a simple alternative method in Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) analyses which are useful for quickly predicting the characteristic of FSS. An impedance modeling of the Equivalent Circuit (EC) for a unit cell of the square loop FSS structure is presented in this paper. The unit cell of the square loop FSS is designed and simulated using the CST Microwave Studio software at 2.4 GHz based on industrial, scientific and medical bands (ISM) standard. The square loop FSS is simulated without FSS, with square FSS and square FSS with slot. The investigation has been done on the length of substrate (s), width of substrate (w), length of square FSS (a), length of square FSS with slot (b) and the number of slots (n). Real (Re) and Imaginary (Im) component of EC or known as resistance and reactance has been modeled based on physical parameters of the design structure of the FSS. The resistance and reactance of the impedance are depending on the geometry of the unit cell of FSS. This impedance modelling can be used to design the advance FSS for the similar ISM band. EC gives a simple alternative method in FSS analyses which are useful for quickly predicting the performance of FSS. The 7th and 8th degree polynomial type has been used to model the component of EC. - Abstract
A single layer, single feed compact slotted patch antenna suitable for dual-band operations is thoroughly simulated in this paper. Patch antenna is basically a low cost, light weight, medium gain and narrowband antenna and suited for short-range microwave application such as a feeding element for other antennas and in research institutes as a reference antenna, it can also be used at output of signal conducting circuit for receiving signals from MEMS. By loading properly arranged slots on a rectangular microstrip patch, dual frequency and broadband operations of a single feed rectangular patch is achieved to increase bandwidth performance of the antenna. The impedance bandwidths of 562.85 MHz with return loss −28.64 dB and 1.17 GHz with return loss −43.40 dB are obtained in the proposed design. And simulated antenna size has been reduced by 59.07% with an increased frequency ratio when compared to a conventional microstrip patch antenna. The characteristics of the designed structure are investigated by using MoM based electromagnetic solver, IE3D. The simple configuration and low profile nature of the proposed antenna leads to easy fabrication and make it suitable for the applications in microwave communication system. The antenna has two modes of operation, Array Mode and Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MIMO) Mode. The single element antenna used is a pattern reconfigurable U-slot antenna with four pattern configurations. An average efficiency of 80%, a peak gain of 9.4 dB, and an overlapped −10 dB impedance bandwidth of 200 MHz around the resonant frequency 3.65 GHzare achieved. The size of the proposed antenna is 140×140×21 mm3 , which is suitable for small cell base-stations. For the MIMO Mode, the antenna has a maximum ECC of 0.06 between the four patterns and a minimum isolation of 12.9 dB between the four ports. For the array Mode, the antenna has a peak gain of 12.5 dB, and steering angles for 0 ◦ ≤ θ ≤ 30◦ in the planes at φ = 0◦ and φ = 90◦ Pattern reconfigurability is achieved using electrical switching. An electromagnetic field penetrating through an aperture or slot of a metallic enclosure generates many standing-waves due to the resonance inside the metallic enclosure, which results in reduced shielding performance. This paper examines the effect of absorbent material (absorber) to improve shielding effectiveness (SE) of large metallic rooms with apertures or slots. First, a theoretical formulation to extract the Q-factor of an absorber with any shape is proposed. Using this, the contribution of the absorber to the SE improvement of a shielded room with different sized circular apertures was investigated. Second, the resonant mode density inside the shielded room was classified into non-resonant, under-moded, and over-moded states with an increase in frequency, and the effect of the absorber in each frequency range was examined. The analysis was conducted through numerical simulation using a commercial full-wave simulator and experimental measurement using a fabricated actual shielded room and commercial absorbers. The accuracy of the analysis results was verified through the comparison of simulated and measured results. The analysis results ensured that the absorber was not effective in improving the SE in the non-resonant state of the metallic room. It was also confirmed that the absorber was effective in improving the SE in the over-moded state of the metallic room where a severe standing-wave occurs. In addition, the SE improvement level differed depending on the location of the absorber in the room.

We present a system that displays an image of any metal structure in a scene by the use of microwave radiation from a cavity resonator in a 10-GHz frequency band. An 80 mm x 80 mm mushroom-like electromagnetic band gap (EBG) structure was arranged, designed, analyzed, and integrated with an X band monopole antenna and the designed EBG monopole antenna has similar to 2-GHz bandwidth. Meanwhile, a cubic cavity resonator is constructed and an EBG grounded monopole antenna is located on one wall of the cavity resonator to create a narrow band radiation. The formed narrow band radiation from the cavity resonator reaches to the metal structure located in the scene. Backscattered radiation collected by a 8 to 12 GHz waveguide receiver that is located near the cavity to scan the whole scene and sweep the waveguide throughout the resonator plane performs to gather various transmission values from a scene. These various transmissions from the cavity resonator antenna to the waveguide receiver were used for imaging. In addition, tunability of the designed EBG structure is studied and presented. The designed structure has advantages such as easy design and fabrication, high accuracy performance, and compatibility to the other frequency regimes. In addition, the designed EBG plane is based on RLC circuit theory, which enables us to understand the antenna performance and EBG structure. This system can be integrated with various areas, such as medical imaging, military applications, weapon detections, security imaging purposes, stealth technology, and other appropriate applications.

In the course of this work, a model of a waveguide branching phase shifter was constructed in the HFSS ANSYS program. The capabilities of this program allow you to simulate the phase shifter with the given parameters of the input signal, device material, boundary conditions. During the simulation, the dimensions, position and dielectric constant of the slit were changed. With a change in the dielectric constant, the maximum of the output signal frequency changed, in connection with which the slit length was changed to maintain the maximum at one value at the initial position of the slit. After selecting the initial position of the slit for a given dielectric constant, the slit was displaced relative to the initial position by ± 5 mm with a step of 1 mm. As a result of each offset, the resulting model was analyzed and a graph of the S_31 parameter of the output signal versus frequency was plotted. As a result of this work, the phase shift of the output signal relative to the position of the slot was recorded. A practical and theoretical dependence of the gap size on its dielectric constant has been found. A waveguide phase shifter is used in microwave technology, in particular in systems with a large number of consumers - to create the necessary distribution of the initial phases of the signals coming to them. Also used in phased array antennas and other coherent radio systems.

In this study, a dual-port wind-energy conversion system has been proposed. A double-fed permanent-magnet synchronous generator (DFPMSG) forms the central part of the system, where the concentrated single-layer winding configuration of the generator enables electric and magnetic isolation between the ports. DFPMSG has two three-phase terminals out of the stator; one is connected directly to the grid, whereas the other is tied to the grid through a back-to-back converter. This study investigates design issues caused by the DFPMSG port with a direct grid connection. The unique design issues of the proposed system include determining the slot/pole combination using wind data and determining the minimum reactive power requirement for the port with a direct grid connection. Next, the load-sharing capability among the ports of the proposed system is presented through a detailed investigation of three schemes. Experimental work is presented for a 5-kW prototype DFPMSG system to illustrate the isolation among the ports, minimized reactive power demand on the port with direct grid connection, and load-sharing ability among the ports for different control schemes., Scientic and Technological Research Council of Turkey [117E785], This work was supported by the Scientic and Technological Research Council of Turkey under Contract 117E785.

This article describes the experience of modeling the frame of the e-learning terminology system. The theory of frames is analyzed to build this model, and the method of frame analysis of e-learning terminology is applied. Frame-based modeling is a way of interacting and gaining knowledge about an entity, while situational conceptualization involves understanding how entities interact with each other. The terminological system of e-learning is investigated from the point of view of the semantics of frames, since a frame is a semantic structure in which the bulk and content of the cognitive structure is concentrated in the process of its verbalization. Thus, the purpose of this study is to build a frame model for the e-learning terminology system. To achieve this goal, a number of objectives are realized in this research: identifying the basic concepts that underlie the terminology system of electronic education, categorizing terms according to the identified basic principles and constructing a frame scheme for the entire studied professional sphere. We believe that the considered frame modeling of the e-learning terminological system is an effective tool for systematize the terminological system and a way of presenting professional knowledge of the studied area for the following reasons. Frames, taken as representations of stereotyped knowledge in a filled-slot format, can act as definition models, offering more consistent and flexible representations of conceptual structure. The definitions of the terms can be considered as representations of the minimum knowledge that serve as an outline for each category. Definitions, as a template for conceptual content, activate broader conceptual frameworks in the form of frames that reveal the prototypical structure of the conceptual description of an object.,

- Abstract
By advance of miniaturization of electronic devices, a ground of a printed circuit board is tend to be small and complicated and the ground may have some defects, such as connectors or clearance halls of vias. In this paper, we analyze the coupling between a microstrip line and a slot in a ground on a PCB using the MTL method to examine an effect of the signal integrity for the slot in the ground. And also we analyze emission from a PCB with slot using coupling slot voltages which is calculated by the MTL method. To calculate by using the MTL method, per-unit-length parameters, such as the self or mutual capacitances and inductances, of a microstrip line and a slot are calculated using the FDTD method. Finally, we show the validity of the method in this paper, comparing results using the MTL method with numerical results using the FDTD method. It is shown that the proposed method is validated by comparing results by the MTL method with results by the FDTD. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

- Abstract
In this paper we propose that a dielectric dot on the top of a ground plane could act as an antenna in optical frequency range. We investigate its electromagnetic properties numerically and observe that its behaviors are similar to dielectric resonator antenna in radio frequency. Further we optimize the aspect ratio of optical dielectric resonator antenna based on return loss, study the fundamental resonant frequency for different dielectric constant, and verify the array pattern multiplication for proposed optical antenna. Using the array of optical dielectric resonator antenna, we could achieve high directivity. We believe that optical dielectric resonator antenna could open new possibilities to study the novel phenomenon of light matter interaction. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of dielectric resonator antenna in optical frequencies. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

- Abstract
In this paper, a novel frequency reconfigurable antenna design and development is proposed for wireless devices. In the proposed design, a rectangular patch antenna with square slot using two PIN diodes at the centre frequency 10 GHz was designed and simulated frequency reconfiguration is achieved in the frequency range of 10-10.5 GHz and the measured results shows the same effect in the frequency range of 10.216-10.552 GHz. The frequency reconfiguration is carried out by switching the diodes on/off states. In the fabricated structure of proposed geometry the diodes are replaced by micro strip line for on-state as an ideal case. The antenna is designed on FR4 substrate (er= 4.54) of thickness (H) 1.6 mm. The proposed structure was simulated by using the electromagnetic (EM) simulation software. The optimized structure was fabricated using microwave integrated circuit (MIC) techniques on same substrate. The return loss was measured using the Vector Network Analyzer. The simulated and measured return loss shows the close agreement. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

- Abstract
In ultra low power RF energy harvesting circuits, it is required that incident power is handled efficiently. One such requirement is to avoid re-radiation of higher order harmonics generated in the single or two diode rectenna. In this paper, a ground slot is proposed to eliminate the higher order harmonic resonance, while ensuring a fixed fundamental resonance at 2.1 GHz, and circular polarization at 3 dBi gain in the broadside. The proposed antenna is suitable for cellular energy harvesting in the W-CDMA down link band (2110 – 2170 MHz). [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

- Abstract
This paper presents the investigations on two patch type slot loaded Frequency Selective Surface (FSS). In the first design, patches of the FSS are designed with 0° rotations to one another while in the second design; adjacent patches are at 90° rotations to one another. In the latter design due to symmetrical nature of the design; the FSS becomes totally polarization independent for 90° rotations about any vertical axis, perpendicular to the FSS plane and passing through its centre and the design also reveals reduced patch size of the FSS with multiband characteristics. The proposed designs have been investigated theoretically using ANSOFT® software. In comparison to the conventional square patch Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) without slot, this slotted square patch FSS with second design can provide reduction in resonant frequency resulting in size reduction up to 94%. The second structure acts like a band reject filter with three bands having resonant frequencies of 5.93 GHz, 9.25 GHz and 13.8 GHz. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

One of the most commonly implemented devices for stall control on wings and airfoils is a leading-edge slat. While functioning of slats at high Reynolds number is well documented, this is not the case at the low Reynolds numbers common for small unmanned aerial vehicles. Consequently, a low-speed wind tunnel investigation was undertaken to elucidate the performance of a slat at Re = 250,000. Force balance measurements accompanied by surface flow visualization images are presented. The slat extension and rotation was varied and documented. The results indicate that for small slat extensions, slat rotation is deleterious to performance, but is required for larger slat extensions for effective lift augmentation. Deployment of the slat was accompanied by a significant drag penalty due to premature localized flow separation.

ABSTRACT A compact dual-square-ring-shaped slot antenna using a microstrip feed line is proposed for wideband circularly polarized (CP) radiation. The antenna consists of a combined dual-square-ring-shaped slot along the diagonal direction and a microstrip feed-line along with stub in the orthogonal direction. The slot and feeding structures are fabricated on the opposite planes of a low cost FR4 substrate. The stub width and a dual-square-ring-shaped slot are optimized for wideband CP radiation with good impedance matching. The measured 3-dB axial ratio and 10-dB return loss bandwidths of the proposed antenna are 47% (2.1-3.4 GHz) and 75% (1.92-4.25 GHz), respectively. The measured gain is more than 2.0 dBic over the 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 56:2645-2649, 2014 [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ABSTRACT In this letter, a Minkowski-like fractal geometry-based ultra-wideband (UWB) monopole antenna is proposed and investigated. The radiator of the antenna is designed using similar segments of the Minkowski-like structure. The multiple resonance phenomena of fractal geometry are utilized in the proposed structure to obtain the wideband operability by repetition of similar segments in the radiator structure of the antenna. The self-similar nature of this geometry provides higher effective antenna length and wide operating bandwidth. The multiple slots are introduced in the ground plane to improve the reflection coefficient over the entire UWB frequency range. The proposed antenna has an optimized dimension of 23.5 × 26.5 mm2 and shows the operating bandwidth from 1.4 to 10.4 GHz. The proposed design is fabricated, and its measured result shows good agreement with the simulated one. The proposed antenna exhibits nearly omnidirectional radiation pattern, proper impedance matching over the entire UWB frequency range. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ABSTRACT In this article, a compact multiband monopole antenna is proposed to cover the frequency band for wireless local area network and worldwide interoperability for microwave access application. The multiband monopole antenna has the advantage of compact size of 15 × 30 mm2. The proposed antenna is an S-shaped strip connected with a notched rectangle loop radiation patch with a ground plane, and there is a slot in the ground plane. The two lower bands are achieved by the rectangle loop patch and the higher band is achieved by the slot in the ground plane. The impedance bandwidth for 10 dB return loss at 2.46, 3.8, and 5.4 GHz, are from 2.4 to 2.51 GHz, 3.20 to 4.07 GHz, and 5.08 to 5.85 GHz, respectively. Experimental results show that the antenna gives omnidirectional radiation patterns and stable antenna gains in the operating bands with the compact size. The scope of new technologies in telecommunications has brought with it new challenges for the industry such as the implementation, design and construction of new antennas. The fifth generation of mobile telephone technologies (5G), is based on systems based on millimeter waves, so this project aims to design and simulate a non-resonant slot antenna based on rectangular metal waveguides to operate in the 60 GHz range, with high bandwidth. The design of the antenna is obtained through the implementation of a tool in Matlab, using the Chebyshev synthesis in order to determine the current distribution of each element of the array. Based on this information, its theoretical radiation diagram and the physical dimensions of the antenna are obtained, which are simulated with the CST Microwave Studio software, obtaining its radiation diagram and return losses, which, when compared with the diagram of theoretical radiation, satisfactory results are observed, which allow to validate the implemented tool. In this project, the design of a non-resonant linear slot array has been described, which was validated with the CST Microwave Studio software. A tool implemented in Matlab was developed for the design of non-resonant linear slot antennas in waveguides, with satisfactory results, given at the design frequency, which was 60 GHz, the minimum variations in dimensions antenna, significantly change its parameters. The Chebychev design criterion was found to be appropriate when directing arrays and decreasing secondary lobes are required. Non-resonant slot antennas were verified to have a high bandwidth.

In this work, we introduce slot selection and co-allocation algorithms for parallel jobs in distributed computing with non-dedicated and heterogeneous resources. A single slot is a time span that can be assigned to a task, which is a part of a job. The job launch requires a co-allocation of a specified number of slots starting synchronously. The challenge is that slots associated with different resources of distributed computational environments may have arbitrary start and finish points that do not match.

ABSTRACT A compact dual-band slot antenna with capacitor loading is proposed for the wireless local area network bands (2.4-2.49 and 5.15-5.35 GHz). The antenna is composed of a modified L-shaped slot and a capacitor. The capacitor is used to generate two surface-current paths on the ground and to miniaturize the antenna size. The proposed antenna has an omni-directional radiation pattern with antenna peak gains of 2.2 dBi at 2.44 GHz and 2.7 dBi at 5.25 GHz. Radiation efficiencies are greater than 60% over the operating frequency bands. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 56:1653-1658, 2014 [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
