Abstract

Low-spin structures in Mo-86,Mo-88 were populated using the Ni-58(Ar-36, x alpha yp) heavy-ion fusion-evaporation reaction at a beam energy of 111 MeV. Charged particles and gamma rays were emitted in the reactions and detected by the DIAMANT CsI ball and the EXOGAM Ge array, respectively. In addition to the previously reported low-to-medium spin states in these nuclei, new low-spin structures were observed. Angular correlation and linear polarization measurements were performed in order to unambiguously determine the spins and parities of intensely populated states in Mo-88. Quasiparticle Random Phase Approximation (QRPA) calculations were performed for the first and second excited 2(+) states in Mo-86 and Mo-88. The results are in qualitative agreement with the experimental results, supporting a collective interpretation of the low-spin states for these transitional nuclei.

Abstract

Thermal instability in a horizontal layer of nanofluid with vertical AC electric field in a porous medium is investigated. The flux of volume fraction of nanoparticles is taken to be zero on the isothermal boundaries and the eigenvalue problem is solved using the Galerkin method. Darcy model is used for the momentum equation. The model used for nanofluid incorporates the effect of Brownian diffusion and thermophoresis. Linear stability theory based upon normal mode technique is employed to find the expressions for Rayleigh number for stationary and oscillatory convection. Graphs have been plotted to study the effects of Lewis number, modified diffusivity ratio, concentration Rayleigh number, AC electric Rayleigh number and porosity on stationary convection. Abstract

Here we investigate how cardoon ( Cynara cardunculus L.), energetic crop cultivated under Mediterranean climate in rainfed conditions, is adapted to the environment. Two main resources used for producing biomass are analysed in detail: water (H 2 O) and carbon dioxide (CO 2 ). Following micrometeorological approach, the eddy covariance technique has been used for monitoring H 2 O and CO 2 exchanges between canopy and atmosphere in order to investigate the dynamics of the cardoon growth at field level and to compute the Gross Primary Production (GPP). The dynamics of canopy CO 2 assimilation in terms of GPP, evapotranspiration (ET) and water use efficiency (WUE GPP , as ratio between seasonal GPP and seasonal ET and WUE agro as ratio between yield and seasonal ET) were analysed during three successive growth seasons in a south Italy site. The environmental drivers of CO 2 assimilation and ET were analysed at instantaneous scale. The crop showed increasing resource use efficiency along the three seasons of experiment for all considered resources: in particular, for the last two seasons cumulated GPP increased and cumulated ET decreased. It seemed to require a season for its establishment to the environment, improving the use of water and CO 2 assimilation in the second and third season. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

International audience; The endogenous cannabinoid ligand anandamide (arachidonylethanolamide) inhibited the intestinal passage of a charcoal meal when administered s.c. in mice at doses ranging from 0.1 to 50 mg/kg. This effect was prevented by the cannabinoid CB1 receptor antagonist SR141716A [N-(piperidin-1-yl)-5-(4-chlorophenyl)-1-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)-4-me thyl-1H-pyrazole-3-carboxamide x HCl] (1 mg/kg s.c.), but it was not affected by the anandamide transport inhibitor, N-(4-hydroxyphenyl) arachidonylethanolamide (AM404) (50 mg/kg, s.c.). The results indicate that anandamide modulates intestinal motility in mice by activating cannabinoid CB1 receptors. They also suggest that anandamide transport, which was previously shown to participate in terminating neural and vascular responses to anandamide, does not contribute to anandamide inactivation in intestinal tissue.

Abstract

Media temporalities of the elderly : evolutions in stability This article shows the context of analysis and the first results of a research on media temporalities of the elderly. Several works have finely analysed the diversity of the media practices and studied meanings of media uses. I wish to continue these analyses by insisting on the evolutionary and dynamic aspect of the practices and temporalities of users having expanded, enhanced, so called "interactive" radio and especially television programming. A priori, the elderly, upon retirement, have a "full-time free time". Their media practices seem strongly influenced by their first experiments ; the appropriation of the various peripheral accessories which gradually came with the media, to the latest digital ones, seems to reinforce their habits of watching television. Their representations and relations with times and media are very far away from the image of television like omnipresent media or "devourer of time". Rather, their media practices are to be understood like a temporality of the occupation, according to the expression of Gerard Derèze, characterized by interest and utility. A particular glance at the users who do not carry out a systematic selection of the programs, accepting the unforeseen, highlights an approach of media and time that allow "useful encounter" which I would qualify in a first stage by : "chance and encounter" and "random and the following". The few points presented here make me assume that the global relation of the autonomous elderly persons to the media can evolve when confronted to their new temporal framework and the new program offer, whereas their representations and use of the media remain quite stable.

Abstract

Thermal instability in a horizontal layer of Walter's (Model B') visco-elastic nanofluid is investigated for more realistic boundary conditions. The flux of volume fraction of nanoparticles is taken to be zero on the isothermal boundaries. The model used for nanofluid incorporates the effect of Brownian diffusion and thermophoresis. Perturbation method, normal mode technique and Galerkin method are used in the solution of the eigenvalue problem. Oscillatory convection has been ruled out for the problem under consideration. The influences of the Lewis number, modified diffusivity ratio and nanoparticle Rayleigh number on the stationary convection are shown both analytically and graphically. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

This contribution presents a journey within the open questions about the current use of a temperature dependent nuclear viscosity in models of nuclear fission and proposes an alternative experimental approach by using systems of intermediate fissility. This study is particularly relevant because: i) systems of intermediate fissility offer a suitable framework since the intervals between the compound nucleus and scission point temperatures with increasing excitation energy are much smaller than in the case of heavier systems, ii) the measurement of observables in the ER channel translates into a larger set of effective constraints for the models. Abstract

The gamma decay of the nuclei Ba-121,Ba-125 has been investigated with the EUROBALL array, using the reaction Ni-64+Ni-64 at E-beam = 255 and 261 MeV. Six new E1 transitions have been found in the nucleus Ba-125, suggesting a significant role of octupole correlations in the origin of its parity doublets. The J(pi) = 3(-) level of the nucleus Ba-124 has been identified for the first time. Its excitation energy is in very good agreement with a prediction based on a microscopic model including octupole interactions., QC 20141202

Abstract

Evaporative [sup 1,2,3]H and [sup 4]He yields and energy spectra have been analyzed in the framework of the statistical model in ten heavy-ion reactions, spanning composite systems with 20[lt][ital Z][lt]56. Transmission coefficients derived from the ingoing-wave boundary condition (IWBCM) or optical models (OM) have been used in the calculations. The effect of using different values of deformation parameters, level-density parameter [ital a] and radii of the real part of the transmission coefficient potentials has been investigated. Except for the low-energy side of the proton spectra, the shape of energy spectra are reasonably well reproduced by both sets of transmission coefficients. While the two models are essentially equivalent for [sup 1]H and [sup 4]He cross sections, they differ significantly in the prediction of [sup 2]H and [sup 3]H cross sections. OM transmission coefficients fail in reproducing [sup 2,3]H cross sections, unless no standard parameters are used, while IWBCM transmission coefficients provide a good overall agreement. The failure of the OM is ascribed to the inclusion of nonfusion reactions in the inverse process.
