Objective To preliminarily summarize the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of functional movement disorder (FMD) based on movement disorders clinic in China. Methods and Results A total of 593 patients with movement disorders newly diagnosed in movement disorders clinic of 22 clinical medical centers from August to September in 2023 were included, including 37 patients (6.24%) with FMD and 556 patients (93.76%) with organic movement disorder. Comparison of the epidemiological characteristics of the 2 groups, the proportions of corona virus disease (COVID-19) infection (χ² = 4.217, P = 0.040) and psychopsychological symptoms (χ² = 18.694, P = 0.000) in the FMD group were higher than those in the organic movement disorder group, while age (t = 3.757, P = 0.000), age of onset (t = 3.720, P = 0.000) and proportion of hypertension (χ² = 4.736, P = 0.030) were lower than those in the organic movement disorder group. Comparison of the clinical characteristics of the 2 groups, the FMD group had higher proportions of tremor (χ² = 3.955, P = 0.047) and myoclonus (Fisher's exact probability: P = 0.011) than the organic movement disorder group, and the proportions of parkinsonism (χ² = 8.491, P = 0.004) and gait disorder (χ² = 5.028, P = 0.025) were lower than those in the organic movement disorder group. Conclusions The age and age of onset, as well as the proportions of COVID-19 infection, hypertension, psychopsychological symptoms, tremor, myoclonus, parkinsonism and gait disorder with FMD were different from those with organic movement disorder in China. The incidence of respiratory and cutaneous allergic disorders may be variable if we consider work activity. These disorders are reported in the current literature to have a relevant psychosomatic involvement. The aim of the study was to submit a survey on the self-reported occurrence of allergic respiratory and cutaneous diseases in outdoor and indoor workers to verify the onset or exacerbations of such pathologies, encourage surveillance, and suggest the need for further studies. Two groups of workers were compared when exposed and not exposed to air pollutants. An outdoor population of motorway toll collectors (153 workers; M: 58.03 years old, SD: 6.1; and female prevalence of 66.01%) and an indoor group of office employees (59 workers; mean age 54.44 years, SD: 8.50; and male prevalence of 61.02%) entered the study. The results of three multivariate analyses of the obtained data, investigating contributions of external factors, including age, sex, smoking habits, working type, and seniority, on allergic conditions were significant in both workers’ groups. The findings highlighted that age and smoking habits were significant contributors to allergic conditions, both independently and in combination with other factors, such as sex and working type. The data suggest the presence of phenomena related to different etiological domains, as already reported in the literature. Through the collection of these data, it was possible to highlight the need to analyze clinical signs from different perspectives.

Currently, there is a significant prevalence of psychosomatic disorders: from 15 to 50% in the general population, 21-33 % in outpatient and 28-53% in inpatient somatic institutions. However, taking into account the variety of clinical manifestations of psychosomatic disorders and patients' seeking help not only from psychiatrists, but also from doctors of other specialties and representatives of nontraditional medicine, in reality these indicators are significantly higher. Untimely detection of the psychosomatic factor in the development of somatic disease often leads to the appointment of unreasonable and expensive treatment, including invasive interventions. The main cause of psychosomatic disorders is stress, prolonged exposure to which on the body leads to functional changes in the organs and their gradual destruction. Due to the high relevance of the problem of verification of psychosomatic disorders, the aim of this study was to develop an integrated approach to the diagnosis of psychosomatic diseases based on the analysis of existing concepts and notions; to achieve this goal, a literature review was conducted using Scopus, PubMed, Cochrane Library and CyberLeninka electronic libraries using keywords "psychosomatic disorder", "psychosomatics", "psychosomatic medicine". The concept of psychosomatic scenario of the disease (certificate of deposit No. 2207787) is suggested, based on combining the knowledge of classical western, Eastern medicine and psychotherapy, which allows the doctor to analyze, realize the psychosomatic scenario of the disease and see, what psychoemotional conflicts of the person himself and/or inherited from parents and ancestors, as well as distorted ideas about his present and future, was launched by the mechanism of adaptation to these distortions in the physical body in the form of a disease.

The article "Accident Insurance" deals with a legal dispute regarding the recognition of health disorders as a result of a work accident. The plaintiff injured his knee in an accident and, according to an expert opinion from the psychiatric clinic, suffers from an anxiety disorder. However, the defendant only recognizes a slight instability of the knee joint as a result of the accident. Another expert opinion concludes that the impairment of the gait is not due to knee instability, but rather to spastic tetraparesis. The social court dismisses the lawsuit as a qualifying reduction in earning capacity could not be proven. The plaintiff aims to have further accident consequences determined, particularly a phobic disorder, with his appeal. The social court dismissed the lawsuit and determined that there are no further health impairments due to the accident. An expert opinion confirms that the plaintiff suffers from various physical impairments, but there is no long-lasting or profound psychological disorder due to the accident. The plaintiff is not entitled to receive an injury pension or have further accident consequences determined. The plaintiff cannot sufficiently attribute his phobic anxiety disorder to the accident, as its existence is not fully proven. Although the accident was generally capable of causing acute fright and an adjustment disorder, it did not lead to a specific trauma disorder or other psychosomatic disorders. Instead, the plaintiff has a dissociative movement disorder of the legs and arms, which is due to early childhood brain damage and further experiences of disappointment. Therefore, there is no scientific connection between the accident and the dissociative disorder. The plaintiff is also not entitled to receive an injury pension, as the accident-related reduction in earning capacity no longer reaches the qualifying degree of 20%. The present text passage contains information on the assessment of the degree of disability (MdE) in relation to accident consequences. It is emphasized that in the assessment, it is not the health damage itself, but the associated loss of function under various aspects that is decisive. Medical opinions play an important role in estimating the MdE, but they are not binding. It is also pointed out that in assessing the MdE, general empirical principles and the individual circumstances of the specific case must be taken into account. With regard to the specific case, it is determined that the consequences of the accident on the left knee joint cannot lead to an MdE of 20%, as the main cause of the plaintiff's movement disorder is spastic tetraparesis. A motion to question an expert witness was rejected, as the plaintiff could not demonstrate a relevant need for clarification. [Extracted from the article]

IntroductionTinnitus is the perception of a sound in the absence of any corresponding external sound source. Current research suggests a relationship among emotional, cognitive, and psychosomatic symptoms and the occurrence or maintenance of chronic tinnitus. This study aimed to detect the prevalence and role of psychosomatic conditions, as defined by the Diagnostic Criteria for Psychosomatic Research (DCPR), and cognitive functioning in a group of patients with tinnitus.MethodsSixty-two patients with subjective tinnitus and 62 non-tinnitus controls were recruited from the Otorhinolaryngology Unit of the University of Bari. Pure-tone audiometry was performed in all tinnitus subjects, and sound level tolerance was evaluated. Additionally, tinnitus handicap (Tinnitus Handicap Inventory [THI]), psychopathological symptoms (Symptom Checklist-90, Revised [SCL-90-R]), anxiety (State–Trait Anxiety Inventory [STAI-Y1/2]), depression (Beck Depression Inventory [BDI]), cognitive impairment (Mini-Mental State Examination [MMSE]), executive functions (Frontal Assessment Battery [FAB]), and psychosomatic syndromes (DCPR) were evaluated. Parametric and non-parametric tests were used to detect cognitive and symptomatological differences between patients and controls. The predictivity of these factors for tinnitus severity was studied using multiple regression (Backward Elimination). All tests were considered significant at p

Purpose: Psychiatric disorders and cancer are both common, and comorbidity has detrimental impacts on cancer outcomes. Previous studies focus on affective disorders which arise after cancer diagnosis, not on the impact of psychiatric disorders on cancer risk. We investigate the association between psychiatric disorders and subsequent gastrointestinal cancer in a large cohort in Germany. Methods: This case–control study used secondary data (electronic medical records) from the national IQVIA Disease Analyzer database. We evaluated the association between previous psychiatric diagnosis in 44,582 matched patients with and without gastrointestinal (GI) cancer. Regression analyses were stratified by psychiatric diagnosis and adjusted by chronic comorbidities and previous psychiatric treatments. Results: No association between any previous psychiatric disease and GI cancers was found (OR = 0.98 (0.95–1.02 95%CL, p = 0.39). Previous psychosomatic disorder and GI cancer showed a significant negative association (OR: 0.86, 0.81–0.90 95%CL, p < 0.0001). No association was found between previous diagnosis with depression or PTSD and GI cancer. These results remained consistent when including previous psychiatric treatments in the regression analyses. Conclusion: Psychiatric disease was not associated with GI cancer risk. Further investigation into the pathways linking psychiatric disease and cancer needs to be conducted, taking into consideration psychiatric treatments administered, to enhance our understanding of the relationship between these two common and devastating diseases. We explored the networks and discriminant abilities of the current Psychosomatic Symptoms Scale (PSSS) in pharmacists for future abbreviation. Ten thousand seven hundred twenty-one pharmacists participated in this study through an online investigation. We used network analysis to reveal the central and bridge symptoms between the subscales (psychological and somatic symptoms) of the PSSS. Then, we utilized item response theory (IRT) to identify discriminant abilities of the current 26-item of PSSS. Over twenty percent of the pharmacists were troubled with significant psychosomatic issues during the pandemic. Risk factors included age, lack of support, and impaired general health conditions. The network analysis revealed that "Irritability" was central to the psychological subscale and "Fatigue" was central to the somatic subscale. "Irritability–Fatigue," "Fatigue–Obsession," and "Self-injury idea–Perineum discomfort" was bridging between the somatic and psychological subscales. IRT found that "Anhedonia," "Depression," "Tightness," "Palpitations," and "Difficulty breathing" were highly discriminated. A future version of PSSS could be abbreviated according to the highlighted items, and they should also be emphasized in future psychosomatic research and targets for intervention. Public Significance Statement: The current Psychosomatic Symptoms Scale is a helpful tool to assess psychosomatic symptoms with 26 items. The future version will be briefer and emphasize irritability, fatigue, self-injury ideal, perineum discomfort, anhedonia, depression, tightness, palpitations, and difficulty breathing. ANOREXIA nervosa , *PSYCHOSOMATIC disorders , *DETECTORS , *OSTEOPATHIC medicine , *EATING disorders - Abstract
Anorexia nervosa is a psychosomatic disorder that mainly concerns women where body image and corporal sensations are questioned. For these patients, their morphology is an obsessional issue and they tend to ignore sensorial perceptions such as hunger or pain. Treatment remains extremely complex, in spite of the vast expanse of relevant specialities, and a close coordination of soma and psyche mediations is required. In fact, it has been proven that for anorexics, there is a strong link between the image of their degraded body and sensorial disorders. These phenomena also concern the structures of the interceptive system. Therefore, the body's perceived shape is a key issue not only in the pathology but also in the therapeutic intervention. To date, it has been established that self-perception can be modulated by interventions focused on touch. In this context and with the support of research in child psychiatry and psychology, we raise the question of the place of osteopathy as an aid in physico-psychic remediation. Our goal is to develop a therapeutic mediation covering the somatic phenomena induced by the muscular frame so as to demonstrate a possible improvement in how anorexics perceive their own morphology. We included 40 patients suffering from eating disorders in our experiment forming a heterogeneous age-group and respecting the minimum threshold. During the ten weeks of the trial, the group was divided into 4 subgroups of 10 non-randomized participants each and based on voluntary participation with one subgroup of 10 patients as a control group, one subgroup of 10 patients treated exclusively using psychomotricity, a third subgroup of 10 patients evaluated exclusively using osteopathy, and a fourth subgroup of 10 patients using a mixed approach. We relied on the "Body Shape Questionnaire" (BSQ-34) to conduct our comparative measurements. It is a reference psychometric tool for measuring bodily concerns, and the French version has been validated and is commonly used. At the end of our ten-week treatment period, we observed positive results for psychomotricity (P < 0.05) and a double osteopathy-psychomotricity follow-up (P < 0.05), but osteopathy alone does not show sufficient improvement compared to the control group (P > 0.34). In view of the results obtained with our patients, the modulations of bodily concerns among those participants treated by touch appear to be effective in the intra-group, but our approach could require extended treatment for more than 10 weeks with regard to intergroup comparisons. Osteopathy must, like the other bodily mediations already involved in the follow-up of anorexia nervosa before it, establish the extent of its contribution to and value in this pathophysiology. Background: Cluttering is a fluency disorder characterized by an abnormally fast or irregular speech delivery rate along with disfluencies that are frequent but are not judged to be stuttering. Data on cluttering prevalence in the general population are scarce, as well as its association with psychological well‐being indices, such as anxiety, and depressive symptoms. Aims: To estimate cluttering prevalence among undergraduates, as well as its relationship with psychological and well‐being indicators. Methods & Procedures: To address these issues, a large sample (n = 1582) of undergraduates completed a questionnaire that provided a lay definition of cluttering and were asked to identify themselves as clutterers (SI‐Clut), as well as to indicate the presence of several psychological and mental well‐being indices. Outcomes & Results: A total of 276 respondents (23%) self‐identified as clutterers (now or in the past), with 55.1% of those being male. Only 56 respondents (3.5% of the total sample; about 21% of SI‐Clut) reported having received speech therapy for cluttering. Relative to students self‐identifying as non‐clutterers, self‐identification of cluttering was associated with higher levels of psychosomatic symptoms, depressive symptoms and stress, indicating a tendency toward internalizing psychopathology, along with lower self‐esteem, and lower subjective happiness. Conclusions & Implications: The current findings point to the high prevalence of students self‐identifying as clutterers, along with a significant link between cluttering and mental distress. Therefore, it is important to increase public awareness of cluttering, its diagnosis and treatment. From the clinical perspective, the elevated levels of somatic complaints, anxiety and depression may represent internalizing psychopathology, associated with more covert rather than overt symptomatology. Such symptom manifestation calls for special attention from the speech–language pathologists providing cluttering therapy, using designated well‐being or mental health screening tools. Although data on standard cluttering treatment are limited, it should be customized to the client's unique difficulties. Speech–language pathologists' understanding of cluttering, which includes both speech characteristics as well as psychological and social aspects of well‐being, may assist them in implementing effective treatments. WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS: What is already known on the subject: Cluttering is a fluency disorder characterized by an abnormally fast or irregular speech rate, along with various disfluencies and articulatory imprecision. It may co‐occur with other disorders, such as learning disabilities, and attention‐deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Data on cluttering prevalence and its association with psychological well‐being indices, such as anxiety and depression, are limited. What this paper adds to existing knowledge: A total of 276 undergraduates (23%) self‐identified as clutterers, of whom 55.1% were males. A total of 56 respondents (3.5% of the total sample, and about 21% of undergraduates self‐identified as clutterers) reported having received speech therapy for cluttering. Psychosomatic symptoms, depressive symptoms and stress levels were higher among these students, suggesting a tendency toward internalizing psychopathology, along with a lower sense of self‐esteem and subjective happiness. What are the potential or actual clinical implications of this work?: The high prevalence of students self‐identifying as clutterers, along with the low percentage of respondents who received speech therapy for cluttering, emphasize the need to raise public awareness of the problem, its diagnosis and treatment (Reichel et al., 2010). The association between cluttering and mental distress requires speech–language pathologists to be aware that cluttering may have covert symptomatology, similar to stuttering, which should be addressed in therapy. Aim: Therefore, the aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of psychosomatic disorders among dental students with recurrent aphthous stomatitis and to assess the level of association Method: This is a cross-sectional study of 184 dental students with Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis (RAS) who were at Riyadh Elm University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The data analysis was performed by using Statistical Packages for Social Sciences version 21. A p-value cut off point of 0.05 at 95% Confident Interval (CI) was used to determine statistical significance. Descriptive and inferential statistics were conducted where frequency and proportion were used, to present all categorical variables. Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale questionnaires were used to assess the depression, anxiety, and stress of RAS dental students. The analyses assessed the relationship between RAS among sociodemographic characteristics of depression, anxiety, and stress by using a chi-square test. Results: Age range of participants was from 20 to 54 years. Of the 184 respondents, 55.4% were females and the remainder was males. Depression was prevalent among 62.5% of dental students. More than half of the respondents (58.2%) were anxious, whereas the prevalence of stress was lower at 40.2%. There was no significant relationship found between depression and RAS. Conclusion: Age group in years and number of ulcers in each occurrence were statistically associated for anxiety and stress, and gender was also significant to anxiety. There was no significant relationship found between depression and RAS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Anxiety and depression are psychosomatic disorders that are frequently observed in chronic conditions such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Anxiety and depression can be induced by immunological and neurotransmitter dysregulation, which is characterized by hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis dysfunction, production of proinflammatory cytokines, and activation of complement in the blood, such as C3 and C4. The causes of anxiety and depression in SLE are complex, ranging from neuropsychiatric involvement to drug adverse effects. Detecting anxiety and depression symptoms in SLE patients is critical to preventing disability from impacting quality of life. Objective: To assess the relationship between anxiety and depression symptomatology, SLE disease activity with levels of C3 and C4 in Cipto Mangunkusumo National Hospital. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design. The study included 120 SLE patients from Cipto Mangunkusumo National Hospital, aged 18 to 60 years. All patients were requested to complete a Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) questionnaire to assess their anxiety and depression symptoms. Subjects with anxiety and depression were assessed for disease activity using the Mexican Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Systemic Disease Activity (Mex-SLEDAI), and blood samples were collected to test complement C3 and C4 levels. Spearman's correlation test was used to examine the relationship between HADS scores, Mex-SLEDAI, and C3 and C4 levels. Results: The results of the study showed a very weak statistically significant negative correlation between anxiety symptoms based on HADS and C3 levels (r = -0.189; p = 0.038) and a weak correlation between anxiety symptoms and C4 levels (r = -204; p = 0.026). Depressive symptoms based on HADS revealed a very poor connection and no statistical significance with levels of C3 (r = -0.056; p = 0.546) and C4 (r = -0.068; p = 0.461). Anxiety (r = 0.06; p = 0.173) and depression (r = 0.031; p = 0.753) symptoms have a weak and insignificant positive connection with SLE activity. Conclusion: C3 and C4 serum levels appeared to decrease when the presence of anxious symptoms increased. There was no significant correlation in SLE disease activity between anxious and depressed patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Herbal medicines are becoming increasingly popular among patients because they are well tolerated and do not exert severe side effects. Nevertheless, they receive little consideration in therapeutic settings. The present article reviews the current state of research on the clinical benefits of herbal medicines on five indication groups, psychosomatic disorders, gynecological complaints, gastrointestinal disorders, urinary and upper respiratory tract infections. The study search was based on the database PubMed and concentrated on herbal medicines legally approved in Europe. After applying defined inclusion and exclusion criteria, 141 articles were selected: 59 for psychosomatic disorders (100% randomized controlled trials; RCTs), 20 for gynecological complaints (56% RCTs), 19 for gastrointestinal disorders (68% RCTs), 16 for urinary tract infections (UTI, 63% RCTs) and 24 for upper respiratory tract infections (URTI) (79% RCTs). For the majority of the studies, therapeutic benefits were evaluated by patient reported outcome measures (PROs). For psychosomatic disorders, gynecological complaints and URTI more than 80% of the study outcomes were positive, whereas the clinical benefit of herbal medicines for the treatment of UTI and gastrointestinal disorders was lower with 55%. The critical appraisal of the articles shows that there is a lack of high-quality studies and, with regard to gastrointestinal disorders, the clinical benefits of herbal medicines as a stand-alone form of therapy are unclear. According to the current state of knowledge, scientific evidence has still to be improved to allow integration of herbal medicines into guidelines and standard treatment regimens for the indications reviewed here. In addition to clinical data, real world data and outcome measures can add significant value to pave the way for herbal medicines into future therapeutic applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ACCEPTANCE & commitment therapy , *TINNITUS , *COGNITIVE therapy , *HEARING aids , *SOUND therapy , *PSYCHOSOMATIC disorders - Abstract
In this comprehensive review, we discuss recent updates on tinnitus evaluation and treatment. Tinnitus evaluation commences with comprehensive medical history taking and audiological evaluation, which can provide valuable insight into the nature and extent of auditory disturbances. Additionally, tinnitus evaluation includes investigation of psychosomatic comorbidities to determine the intricate interplay between psychological factors and tinnitus perception. Various therapeutic approaches are available to minimize the burden of tinnitus. Cognitive behavioral therapy reshapes negative thought patterns and behaviors that are closely associated with tinnitus-induced distress. Acceptance and commitment therapy fosters mindfulness and value-aligned actions to address emotional effects. Tinnitus retraining therapy combines counseling and sound therapy for habituation. Tailor-made notched music therapy offers customized auditory experiences for symptom relief. Hearing aids and cochlear implants compensate for hearing loss and associated stress. Both neuromodulation and neurofeedback may be potentially useful. The role of pharmacotherapy and dietary supplements remains uncertain. Physiotherapy and head-neck manipulation relieve tinnitus associated with orofacial factors. Virtual reality, smartphone applications, and photobiomodulation may serve as novel therapeutic avenues. Although promising interventions are available, further research is warranted to confirm their effectiveness and long-term effects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Today, obesity is considered one of the most important and common problems in the field of world health, found to have a significant coexistence with many physical diseases and mental problems. The present study aimed to explain the model of bulimia nervosa based on the components of mindfulness and anxiety sensitivity with the mediating role of body image and psychosomatic symptoms in obese women. Methods: The statistical population in this research included all patients diagnosed with obesity in the treatment centers of Tehran, Iran, in 2021. The research sample included 384 women diagnosed with obesity followed by removing the distorted questionnaires leading to 357 statistically analyzed samples. The questionnaires used in this research were the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ), the psychosomatic disorders questionnaire, the self-body questionnaire, the Anxiety Sensitivity Index-Revised (ASI-R), and the Binge Eating Scale (BES), which were completed by the subjects following the principles of ethics in the research. The findings were statistically analyzed using path analysis and descriptive and inferential indicators. Data analysis was done using the SPSS software, AMOS software, and other appropriate tests. Results: The model had a favorable fit in terms of statistics, and it was also found that psychosomatic symptoms as a mediating variable could not have provided a significant explanation for the prediction paths of bulimia nervosa based on anxiety sensitivity and component mindfulness (P < 0.01). Conclusion: In the treatment of obese people with bulimia nervosa, paying attention to psychological and emotional indicators can be of great importance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

background The interplay between physical and psychological symptoms frequently affects the health-related quality of life of asthma patients. PARTICIPANTS AND PROCEDURE This research aimed at assessing the psychological status of 60 patients attending their first/second doctor visit at which they were diagnosed with allergic asthma. Information on psychological distress was collected through the Symptom Questionnaire (SQ), personality traits were described through Cattell's 16-Personality Factor Questionnaire (16-PF), stress-related behavior was detected through the P Stress Questionnaire (PSQ), and the perceived quality of life was described with the Rhinasthma questionnaire. RESULTS The SQ revealed anxiety levels above the clinical cut-off in 71.7% of patients, levels of depression in 46.7%, angerhostility in 53.3%, and somatic symptoms in 65%. No significant differences were observed after three months. The 16-PF scores were also suggestive of specific personality traits associated with the predisposition towards psychosomatic disorders. However, no stress-related behaviors were observed with the PSQ. Rhinasthma highlighted a certain degree of the perceived quality of life. Additionally, the quality of life correlated with age, all psychological distress scales, a few personality traits, vigor, and stress disorders. CONCLUSIONS Allergic asthma patients present a higher-than-average level of psychological distress and impaired perceived quality of life at the time of diagnosis. Therefore, it is important to assess the psychological status in addition to the respiratory function. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper proposes that resources from philosophy as a way of life (PWL), in particular the prescription of targeted 'spiritual exercises' (Hadot) can be used in palliative counselling, addressing Alexandrova's critique that philosophy as 'big picture' theories alone are insufficient. Part I shows how the disciplines of philosophy and medicine for a long time intersected, in particular in competing prescriptive notions of 'regimen' or 'way of life' (diaitês) in the ancient world, in which philosophy was considered widely as PWL. Part II applies PWL work on the ancient philosophical spiritual exercises to contemporary clinical settings. We show how six ancient spiritual exercises respond to patients' needs as persons, whose quality of life is importantly shaped by their beliefs and sense‐making, as they face profound existential or spiritual challenges, as well as forms of physical disability and diminished capabilities which they may never have previously countenanced. Morita therapy is one of the leading alternative psychotherapeutic approaches that has emerged from Japan and has adapted with notable success to the mores and demands of the Western medical establishment. Although still on the margin, Morita therapy has the potential to offer a viable option for those who seek therapeutic assistance for various neuroses and psychosomatic illnesses that culminate in psychiatric symptoms such as generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive‐compulsive disorder, or posttraumatic stress disorder. Diverging considerably from conventional Western psychiatric approaches, Morita therapy has its own modes of conceiving mental illness and offers distinct curative methods that are in some ways akin to the techniques of meaning‐centred psychotherapies, but in many other ways are rather different. In this paper, the meaning‐formation and the building of a constant sense of purpose in Morita therapy is explored, with a special focus on how these relate to creating a stable psychological framework for the client. MEDICALLY unexplained symptoms ,PSYCHOSOMATIC disorders ,MENTAL illness - Abstract
Background/purpose: Dentists sometimes struggle with treating patients with unexplained symptoms, known as oral psychosomatic disorders, that do not improve with conventional treatment. Oral psychosomatic disorders do not fit the definition of psychosomatic diseases in internal medicine. To ensure appropriate dental treatment, it is important for general dentists to distinguish between oral psychosomatic disorders and psychosomatic diseases. However, relevant evaluation methods have not yet been developed. The DMFT index is widely used as an indicator of the caries status. The purpose of this study was to compare the DMFT index scores of patients with oral psychosomatic. The DMFT scores of 2202 patients with oral psychosomatic disorders, 145 psychiatric inpatients, and 3940 general dental patients were statistically compared. The DMFT of patients with oral psychosomatic disorders was further compared based on the presence or absence of psychiatric history and disease. The median DMFT scores of oral psychosomatic disorder patients, psychiatric inpatients, and general dental patients were 16, 22, and 10, respectively, showing a significant difference. No significant differences were found in the DMFT scores based on the presence or absence of psychiatric history in oral psychosomatic disorder patients. The intraoral environment of patients with oral psychosomatic disorders was worse than that of general dental patients but better than that of psychiatric inpatients. General dentists could suspect psychiatric and oral psychosomatic disorders based on the state of patients' oral environment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background. The increasing pace of modern life, the pandemic, the war in Ukraine, the presence of somatic pathology and mental states are interconnected and have a direct cause and effect relationship. Psychological distress is often experienced as physical symptoms. Psychotherapeutic and psychocorrective methods recommended by the Rome Committee have become the standard of therapy for patients with functional gastrointestinal disorders or, according to modern terminology, disorders of the gut-brain interaction (DGBI). In adjustment disorders and many neurotic disorders against the background of chronic distress, psychocorrection, cognitive behavioral and other types of psychotherapy play an important role in addition to pharmacological correction. The method of biosuggestive therapy (BST) is the successor of hypnotherapy in Ukraine and, as an effective non-pharmacological psychocorrective approach, has recently gained considerable popularity in the correction of psychological disorders. The goal of our research was to analyze all publications available in 2023 on the experience of using and the results of the effectiveness of the BST as a method of intestinal-directed therapy, and in other clinical situations researched and published in the scientific literature. Discussion a result of our analysis, 21 works were selected that were presented in Ukrainian and foreign publications regarding the effectiveness of the biosuggestive therapy. When BST is used in patients with functional gastrointestinal disorders or DGBI, a decrease in the manifestations of the disease was noted in addition to a decrease in the severity of mental disorders. In forcibly displaced persons from the ATO zone and during military operations in Ukraine, the use of BST in chronic pain led to a decrease in symptoms of anxiety and depression, the level of stress and an increase in general well-being in stress-related conditions. The BST showed a reduction in behavioral disorders in children and adults. Conclusions. The BST method can be used to correct various psychosomatic and stress-related disorders, combined with functional and chronic diseases, endocrine pathology, behavioral problems of childhood and adolescence. The use of BST as a branch of gut-directed hypnotherapy needs further research with regard to different manifestations of DGBI, which will be presented in the near future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Due to the long disease duration, impact on appearance, social stigmatization, and numerous side effects of treatment, pemphigus, an autoimmune bullous disease, often has a significant psychological impact on patients. On the other hand, mood disorders may exacerbate the disease by affecting the patient's self‐management, forming a vicious circle. To investigate anxiety and depressive disorders in patients with pemphigus, a total of 140 patients with pemphigus were recruited for this cross‐sectional retrospective study between March 2020 and January 2022. A control group of 118 patients with psoriasis, a commonly known psychosomatic dermatosis, was established. Patients were evaluated at the visiting day with the Beck Anxiety Inventory and Beck Depression Inventory second edition for mood disorders, the Dermatology Life Quality Index and the EuroQol Five Dimensions Questionnaire for disease‐related life quality, and the Visual Analogue Scale for pain and itching symptoms. In our cohort, 30.7% of patients with pemphigus suffered from either anxiety disorder (25%) or depressive disorders (14.3%). Propensity score matching was implemented to create a comparable cohort of pemphigus and psoriasis groups considering the baseline discrepancy. Thirty‐four comparable pairs of pemphigus and psoriasis patients were extracted. The prevalence and severity of depressive disorder in pemphigus patients were significantly higher than in psoriasis patients, while anxiety disorder levels appeared to be similar in two groups. Multivariate logistic regression analysis further revealed that disease‐related hospitalization history, active mucosal damage, and concomitant thyroid disease are independent risk factors for mood disorders in pemphigus patients. Our results showed that pemphigus patients had a high prevalence and severity of mood disorders. Relevant clinicodemographic indicators may be valuable for prediction and early identification of mood disorders in pemphigus. Better disease education from physicians may be important for these patients to achieve overall disease management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BECK Anxiety Inventory , *ATTENTION-deficit hyperactivity disorder , *AFFECTIVE disorders , *BECK Depression Inventory , *MENTAL illness , *PSYCHOSOMATIC disorders - Abstract
Cognitive function (CF) is a core feature related to all psychiatric disorders. However, self-report scales of CF (SRSC) may not always correlate with CF's objective measures and may have different mediators. Tools to select for evaluating CF in diverse psychiatric populations and their determinants need to be studied. In this study, we aimed to assess the association of SRSC (Perceived Deficit Questionnaire-Depression (PDQ-D), and World Health Organization's Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Self-Report Scale (ASRS) and its inattentiveness subscale) with Letter-N-back as an objective measure of CF, and to analyze their association with psychopathology. Two hundred nine (131 nonclinical, and 78 clinical with a psychiatric diagnosis of ICD10 F31-39 [mood disorders excluding Bipolar I] or F40-F49 [neurotic, stress-related or psychosomatic disorder] categories) participants were evaluated with PDQ-D, ASRS, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and Beck's Anxiety Inventory (BAI), and N-back. Both groups' data were included in the analysis. PDQ-D showed a small correlation with N-back scores, whereas ASRS showed no correlation. PDQ-D and ASRS showed a large correlation. Age and BAI scores significantly predicted both PDQ-D and ASRS, whereas the cognitive subscale of BDI predicted PDQ-D, but not ASRS. Only BAI scores predicted N-back results. The mediation model revealed that 2-back scores of N-back task directly affects PDQ-D scores, independent of BDI scores. However, the cognitive subscale of BDI moderated 2-back and PDQ-D association. On the contrary, BAI scores significantly mediated the association of 2-back scores with PDQ-D. The direct effect of 2-back scores in PDQ-D was insignificant in the mediation of BAI scores. Our study validates the discordance between SRSC and an objective measurement of CF. Anxiety may affect both self-report and objective measurement of CF, whereas depressive thought content may lead to higher cognitive dysfunction reports in nondemented participants. The review addresses an innovative and intensively developing approach to organizing stimulation procedures, closed-loop adaptive neurostimulation, in which sensory stimulation parameters are automatically controlled by feedback signals from the patient's own physiological characteristics. The effects of applying invasive and non-invasive magnetic and electrical brain stimulation techniques, as well as closed-loop acoustic and audiovisual stimulation with a feedback control from human rhythmic processes, are considered. The features and achievements of a new approach to the treatment of various psychosomatic disorders and cognitive rehabilitation therapy are demonstrated on numerous examples. The prospects for the development of these technologies are outlined. The results of the author's own studies in this research trend are presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The psychosomatic condition affects the hippocampus, temporal role, and parietal lobes of the brain. People with Psychosomatic condition displays poor language skills, higher level of cognitive dysfunction, Memory disorders, Anxiety level, Depression, and stress level. Cognitive language therapy aids learners towards the improvement of anxiety, depression, and stress levels. The sampling method employed in the study is the purposive sampling method. DASS 21 was used to analyze the stress, anxiety, and depression levels before and after the intervention. Cognitive language therapy activities like chunking, embroidery, and identifying errors were given to the learners to reduce the impact of stress, anxiety, and depression among individuals with the psychosomatic condition. The paired t-test in SPSS was performed and from the study findings, it is concluded that the participants displayed a low to medium range of depression after the intervention of cognitive language therapy. Through paired samples test, the significance value for all three pairs (Depression, anxiety, and stress) is 0.000, which is lesser than 0.05. Hence, there is a considerable improvement in depression, anxiety, and stress levels among the participants with the psychosomatic condition as a result of cognitive language therapy intervention. To develop symptom networks and examine the longitudinal relationships of depressive symptoms among middle-aged and older adults in China. This study used three-wave data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (2013 (T1), 2015 (T2), and 2018 (T3)). Depressive symptoms were measured by the 10-item Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D). A multilevel vector autoregression model (VAR) was used to identify ten depressive symptoms dynamically interacting with each other over time. A total of 3,558 participants were included in the final analysis. The strongest direct effects were 'D10: felt fearful' -> 'D6: felt everything I did was an effort' (β = 0.14). 'D10: felt fearful' reported the largest value of out-predictability (r = 0.064) and out-strength (r = 0.635). 'D3: felt depressed' reported the largest value of in-predictability (r = 0.077) and in-strength (r = 0.545). Substantial heterogeneity in the network may stem from an individual's sex and place of residence. 'Felt fearful' was the strongest predictor compared to the other nine depressive symptoms based on node centrality. Our study suggests that, after understanding the causes of fear, strategies to reduce fear should be incorporated into multimodal interventions for middle-aged and older adults with depressive symptoms. Mental and psychological disorders are serious health problems worldwide. Anxiety among high school students can affect school performance, relationships, and family life. Objective: Our aim is to understand the anxiety levels and associated factors among high school students and compare the results of psychological tests measuring anxiety with the cortisol levels obtained from biological sampling. Method: In our longitudinal follow-up study, we involved 125 individuals in May 2019. Validated measurement tools were used during questionnaire data collection, including the State–Trait Anxiety Inventory, Clear Communication Scale, Multiple Social Perceived Support Scale, and related HBSC questions. As objective data, we collected hair samples for cortisol level measurement. Results: At the end of the school year, the anxiety levels measured by psychological tests were significantly higher (p = 0.001) compared to the anxiety levels at the beginning of the next school year. Anxiety levels were higher among girls and were influenced by the type of school and parental expectations. Both state anxiety and trait anxiety showed a strong correlation with psychosomatic symptoms (p < 0.001) and anxiety arising from school expectations (p < 0.05). The changes in cortisol levels did not follow the changes in psychological tests. Cortisol level increased (p = 0.01) in the second sample. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract This study aims to assess the effect of psychosocial risks and resources on burnout, psychosomatic disorders, and job satisfaction using Hierarchical Regression Modelling (HRM) and Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA). Method. The sample consisted of 9020 non-university public education teachers (
M age = 45.33 years,SD = 9.15; 72.5% women). Results. Demands variables (Workload, Emotional labour, Imbalance, and Interpersonal conflict) were better predictors than resources variables (Job autonomy, Social support, and Resources at work). Resources also significantly improved the model’s predictive capacity, except in the case of Indolence. In the QCA results, none of the conditions seems to be necessary. Regarding sufficiency, the combination of the different conditions explains between 44–49% of high levels of Burnout and between 40–47% of low levels of Burnout; between 44–47% of high levels of Psychosomatic disorders and 40–47% of low levels of Psychosomatic disorders; 49% of high Job satisfaction levels and 45–56% of low Job satisfaction levels. Conclusions. The results show that QCA models have better explanatory capacity than HRM. Some variables were not significant in HRM, but they were present in combination with other QCA model variables. The findings contribute to understanding how psychosocial risks affect workers’ health and job satisfaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

Growing evidence from scientific research elucidates the important role of alexithymia in chronic immune diseases. This Review aims to explore the presence of alexithymia in patients affected by asthma and clarify its associations with other involved psychological and physical factors. In January 2023, according to PRISMA guidelines, a systematic search using PubMed and Scopus was conducted. Twentysix studies were eligible based on inclusion criteria. Alexithymia was significantly present in asthma patients, with most studies reporting a higher prevalence (from 9 to 62.8%) than in control groups (approximately 10%). The coexistence of asthma and alexithymia was associated with a worse quality of life, psychiatric comorbidity, poor symptom control, and difficulty in recognizing exacerbations of the disease. These results suggest that alexithymia can negatively impact the management of asthma. For this reason, we recommend an accuracy assessment in clinical settings and the implementation of psychological interventions to promote the emotional and physical wellbeing of asthmatic patients. Depression is a common psychosomatic disorder in clinical practice and may soon become the largest disease burden globally. Studies have focused on the association between obesity and depression but presented controversial results. This study is aimed at exploring the dose-response correlation between Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI) and depressive symptoms and the mediating effect of sleep time and life satisfaction in this relationship. We include 4149 individuals aged ≥45 years from wave 2011 and wave 2015 of China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), using restricted cubic spline (RCS) to examine possible nonlinear correlation and serial multiple mediation model to examine the mediating effect of sleep time and life satisfaction. Results indicate that there is a significant negative linear correlation between CVAI and depressive symptoms, and each IQR increment in CVAI is associated with 11% lower risk of depressive symptoms. About 50.00% (indirect effect/total effect) of the significant association between CVAI and depressive symptoms is mediated by sleep time and life satisfaction, with life satisfaction playing a relatively major role. Properly visceral adiposity may be protective against depressive symptoms. It could be feasible to alleviate the depressive symptoms in people with too low visceral adiposity by improving their life satisfaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To compare the extent to which value-based life attitudes measured by means of the Life Attitude Profile (LAP-R) could differ between the general population and people suffering from mental disorders hospitalized in a psychosomatic ward. Cross-sectional comparative study between a sample of general population (n = 409) and a sample of unselected patients (n = 147) at admission in a psychosomatic ward. Comparisons were carried out by means of Cronbach's alpha, correlation matrix, t-tests, robust multivariate linear regression models (MLRM), and using propensity scores. The internal consistency of LAP-R is good (alpha = 0.90). Divergent validity with BFI dimensions is widely given. In MLRM general population scored higher for the indexes 'personal meaning' and 'existential transcendence', whereas psychosomatic patients for the dimensions 'responsibleness', 'death acceptance', 'goal seeking' and especially 'existential vacuum'. Sex, partnership and schooling display few associations. Neuroticism is negatively and agreeableness positively associated with life attitudes considered as protective. Norm values and differences were stratified by age ranges. This study demonstrates that basic human attitudes like personal transcendence, personal meaning, having a biographically supported mission in life, and belief in a reason for existence are so fundamental for individuals that they are to some degree given independently of having a mental disorder or not. Neuroticism is a risk trait and agreeableness a protective trait facing life attitudes. The findings of this study indicate that people suffering from mental disorders treated in a specialized psychosomatic unit in a general hospital have important value-based resources and simultaneously higher levels of existential vacuum that have to be considered in treatment planning but should also be embedded in a therapeutic alliance. The existential vacuum deserves special consideration in the treatment of patients, especially facing risk of suicide. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Among the cultural conceptualizations of distress, susto is defined in the DSM-5 as "a cultural explanation of distress and misfortune in Latin America that refers to an illness attributed to a terrifying event that causes the soul to leave the body and leads to unhappiness and illness, as well as difficulties in performing key social functions" (American Psychiatric Association (APA) (2013). Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th edition. Washington, DC: APA, p. 836). Thus, susto represents a cultural explanation that encompasses the symptoms of various mental disorders and physical diseases. We analyzed the descriptions of susto from different scientific fields and related them to definitions of DSM-5 syndromes. Three syndromic subtypes of susto show a symptomatic overlap with depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and somatic disorder. However, linguistic metaphors describing symptoms and perceived causes that are specific for Latin American culture support the concept of susto as a specific idiom of distress (e.g., loss of soul, shadow or ajayu ; sunken, closed or white eyes; jumping and screaming in the night; being thrown to the ground). In addition, if diagnostic criteria are met for mental disorders, then susto describes a perceived cause of psychopathological states (e.g., depressive disorder, PTSD, somatic disorder, panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder). Future research with people who have experienced susto is needed to clarify whether susto precedes the onset of other mental disorders (perceived cause) or whether it is a way of designating distress (idiom of distress). To verify the Brief Psychosomatic Symptom Scale (BPSS) among patients with psychosomatic-related disorders in general hospitals and determine the threshold of BPSS. The BPSS is a shortened 10-item version of the psychosomatic symptoms scale (PSSS). Data from 483 patients and 388 healthy controls were included for psychometric analyses. Internal consistency, construct validity, and factorial validity were verified. The threshold of BPSS in distinguishing psychosomatic patients from healthy controls were determined using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. The ROC curve of the BPSS was compared with that of the PSSS and patient health questionnaire-15 (PHQ-15) by using Venkatraman's method with 2000 times Monte-Carlo simulations. The reliability of the BPSS was good with Cronbach's α of 0.831. BPSS was significantly correlated with PSSS (r = 0.886, P < 0.001), PHQ-15 (r = 0.752, P < 0.001), PHQ-9 (r = 0.757, P < 0.001) and GAD-7 (r = 0.715, P < 0.001), which indicated good construct validity. ROC analyses demonstrated that the AUC of the BPSS was comparable with that of PSSS. The gender-specific threshold of BPSS was determined as ≥8 in males and ≥ 9 in females. The BPSS is a brief and validated instrument for screening common psychosomatic symptoms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PSYCHOSOMATIC disorders , *ATTEMPTED suicide , *SOCIAL status , *SUICIDE , *INDIVIDUAL differences , *SUICIDE prevention - Abstract
The study aimed to identify the level of psychosomatic disorders and their relationship to the characteristics of suicide survivors in Palestine. The study sample consisted of (155) individual survivors of the suicide attempt, and the psychosomatic disorders tool (36) was used within six axes, and the tool for the characteristics of individuals who survived suicide (40) was used within five axes. The results showed that the level of Psychosomatic disorders of individuals who survived suicide was moderate and there were differences in the independent variables: (gender, age, number of suicide attempts). The characteristics of individual suicide survivors were moderate, and the results of independent variables resulted in statistically significant differences in the characteristics of individuals who survived suicide depending on a variable: (age, social status, educational level, and number of suicide attempts). The results indicated a weak relationship between psychosomatic disorders and the characteristics of suicide survivors, and the study recommended focusing on the youth category in Palestinian society and adopting treatment programs for individuals who attempted suicide and working on family coordination within the Palestinian environment. MENTAL health services , *PSYCHOSOMATIC disorders , *MYOCARDIAL ischemia , *CORONARY disease , *BINGE drinking , *OVERWEIGHT children - Abstract
Psychosomatic disorders confront a myriad of challenges, including insufficient mental health community services, on the one hand, and physician rejection and stigmatization of psychiatric symptoms on the other. Unhealthy lifestyle choices interact in a negative way with the Romanian people's health; these choices account for around half of the country's total mortality rate. So, the rate of heavy binge drinking is greater than the same rate in the European Union. Daily smokers rate in Romania is 1:5; overweight or obese represent approximately, half of the country's adult population; ischemic heart disease stroke being the second-largest death cause. Romania ranks first at the treatable mortality rate in Europe. We sought to establish the necessary grounds for including psychosomatic day-care clinics in the Romanian healthcare system. Objective. This study aimed to establish practical evidence of the leading role of somatic factors in psychosomatic health disorders in the early stages of the mental development of children and adolescents. Materials and methods. An interview method was used to obtain complete and reliable historical data for children and youth who applied for primary medical care. In addition, an anonymous questioning method was implemented. It allowed gathering of a reliable database of basic information on the psychosomatic health of children and adolescents in the Western European region. A study enrolled a sample of 1000 children, including 498 girls and 502 boys, aged 13 to 18 years. Results and Discussion. Psychosomatic pathologies were detected in 54% of cases, of which 63% were female. The influence of somatic factors on psychosomatic pathology progression was found to be greater in the early stages of mental development. Conclusion. The study's findings may serve as a primary basis for understanding the role of somatization factors on psychosomatic disorders in children and adolescents in the early stages of mental development. The study also highlights the need to enhance the methodological basis for preventing psychosomatic disorders in children and adolescents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PSYCHOSOMATIC disorders , *STRESS management , *MIND & body , *EMOTIONS , *QUALITY of life - Abstract
Stress affects both the body and mind, as well as the behavior. For this reason it is important to know what are the causes of stress, what are the effects, symptoms and psychosomatic manifestations, as well as the solutions, the ways to combat stress and methods of self-regulation. The way we ensure our personal resilience regarding daily challenges and high-impact events in our lives is critical. Thus, it will increase tolerance to difficult bodily sensations and suppressed emotions to reduce uncontrolled reactions in relationships with others and will increase our quality of life. By exploring the somatic dimension in psychology, we can expand our ability to connect with our body and emotions, to regulate our nervous system, and increase our capacity to connect with others. These therapeutic methods centered on the body and the emotions have an important role in managing stress, preventing burnout, various diseases and conditions, and recovering from trauma. The psychosomatic approach provides useful tools for regulating the nervous system, increasing resilience, reducing symptoms and improving our lives by promoting well-being and health. The objective of the present study was to compare the hormonal difference (cortisol) between the sexes, swimming specialties and performance of adolescent swimmers, to verify the existence of the relationship between cortisol and cognitive aspects, among 35 swimmers with an average age of 15.41 ± 0.51 years, evaluated during the Brazilian Youth Swimming Championship. In addition, questionnaires, Competitive State Anxiety (CSAI-2) and sociodemographic characterization were used. Together, salivary collections were performed. Female swimmers had higher cognitive anxiety (22.28 ± 5.16) vs male (16.84 ± 6.15, p = 0.012). female (19.14 ± 5.43) vs male (15.15 ± 2.40, p = 0.008) somatic anxiety. Sprinters had higher somatic anxiety (18.43 ± 4.80) than middle and long distance swimmers vs middle and long distance swimmers (15.35 ± 3.46, p = 0.042). Low-performance swimmers had greater cognitive anxiety (21.80 ± 6.42) than high-performance swimmers (17.55 ± 5.07, p = 0.049). Sprinters exhibited higher pre-competition cortisol levels (0.41 ± 0.12). Male swimmers showed negative relationships between cognitive anxiety and self-confidence (r = -0.56; p = 0.001), somatic anxiety (r = -0.45; p = 0.001), as well as middle and long-distance swimmers (r = -0.52, p = 0.001) and high performance swimmers (r = -0.78, p = 0.001). Likewise, a psychophysiological relationship was found in low performance athletes between somatic anxiety and pre-competition cortisol. (r = -0.50; p = 0.002). Therefore, coaches and others involved in the preparation of these athletes can use the biological measurement of salivary cortisol as a anxiety marker and sports performance in young swimmers. Self‐induced trauma is a rare cause of panniculitis in adolescents and may be associated with undiagnosed underlying psychological conditions. The condition often poses a diagnostic challenge as patients usually present with non‐specific signs and symptoms, and often a concealed history of self‐induced trauma. Here, we present three adolescent patients with self‐induced traumatic panniculitis. All three patients were repeatedly admitted with non‐specific cutaneous lesions as well as multiple somatic complaints. After extensive evaluation to exclude organic causes, psychiatric assessment eventually revealed underlying psychosomatic disorders as a cause of the self‐induced trauma. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose was to investigate the association between disability, and psychosomatic problems among adolescents at compulsory regular school also taking into account parental and student achievement expectations and student self‐efficacy. We analysed cross‐sectional questionnaire data collected in 2010, from 2004 Swedish adolescents. The results showed that the degree of psychosomatic problems and self‐efficacy varied with regard to whether the adolescent reported having a disability or not. The distribution of parents' and adolescents' own achievement expectations did not differ significantly with regard to having a disability. Neither achievement expectations nor self‐efficacy did moderate the association between disability and psychosomatic problems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article focuses on the objective assessment of Post-COVID-19 Syndrome (PCS) symptoms using lactic acid performance diagnostics and spiroergometry. It mentions methods help determine the physiological causes of reduced physical performance in PCS patients and challenge the assumption that symptoms are purely psychosomatic. It also mentions findings suggest the importance of reevaluating rehabilitation approaches for PCS patients based on a deeper understanding of the pathophysiology.
