Spectral estimation plays a significant role in engineering practice. Along with the spreading of sensor networks, more and more data are transmitted through unreliable channel which may lead to lost data. The most common method of spectral estimation uses FFT, but this needs the whole record without data loss. This paper presents a new FFT-based method for the problem which can be used at coherent sampling. The efficiency and accuracy is demonstrated via theoretical analysis, simulation and measurement results.

Abdominal fat accumulation is a major risk factor for cardiometabolic morbidity and mortality. The purpose of the study is to assess the possibility of developing accurate estimation equations based on body measurements to determine total abdominal (TFA), subcutaneous (SFA) and visceral fat area (VFA). Hungarian volunteers (n=198) aged between 20 and 81 years were enrolled in the study, which was conducted between July and November 2014. All persons underwent anthropometric measurements and computer tomographic (CT) scanning. Sex-specific multiple linear regression analyses were conducted in a subgroup of 98 participants to generate estimation models, then Bland-Altman's analyses were applied in the cross-validation group to compare their predictive efficiency. The variables best predicting VFA were hip circumference, calf circumference and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) for males (R2=0.713; SEE=5602.1mm2) and sagittal abdominal diameter (SAD), WHR, thigh circumference and triceps skinfold for females (R2=0.845; SEE=3835.6mm2). The SFA prediction equation included SAD, thigh circumference and abdominal skinfold for males (R2=0.848; SEE=4124.1mm2), body mass index and thigh circumference for females (R2=0.861; SEE=5049.7mm2). Prediction accuracy was the highest in the case of TFA: hip circumference and WHR for males (R2=0.910; SEE=5637.2mm2), SAD, thigh circumference and abdominal skinfold for females (R2=0.915; SEE=6197.5mm2) were used in the equations. The results suggested that deviations in the predictions were independent of the amount of adipose tissue. Estimation of abdominal fat depots based on anthropometric traits could provide a cheap, reliable method in epidemiologic research and public health screening to evaluate the risk of cardiometabolic events.

Osseous ankylosis of large joints that occurs secondary to infection is rarely described in developed countries, thanks to diagnostic techniques that allow early detection and treatment of the underlying infection. Evidence of the natural history and progression of the disease is now primarily studied through the observation and analysis of osteoarcheological specimens, and medical reports or books dating from the pre-antibiotic era. This report illustrates several cases where modern medical imaging techniques and ancient medical literature were success- fully interpreted to diagnose rare, advanced-stage tuberculous alterations in osteoarcheological specimens. Two skeletons from the Batmonostor cemetery (Hungary) demonstrate complete unilateral ankylosis of the knee. Macroscopic and radiographic examinations were undertaken to assess the extent of skeletal changes and determine their cause. Data obtained from computed tomography (CT) were constructed in 2D and 3D. The 2D CT images revealed cavities involving both the metaphyses and the epiphyses. The 3D reconstruc- tions allowed us to reconstruct the more precise volumetric morphology of the circumscribed lytic lesions, as well as clear 'image-mirror' lacunar volumes. On the basis of the macroscopic and radiological analyses, extra-spinal tuberculous infection seems to have been the most probable etiology of these two cases. At the moment the biomedical applications of magnetic fluids are the subject of intensive scientific interest. In the present work, magnetite nanoparticles (MNPs) were synthesized and stabilized in aqueous medium with different carboxylic compounds (citric acid (CA), polyacrylic acid (PAA), and sodium oleate (NaOA)), in order to prepare well stabilized magnetic fluids (MFs). The magnetic nanoparticles can be used in the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as contrast agents. Magnetic resonance relaxation measurements of the above MFs were performed at different field strengths (i.e., 0.47, 1.5 and 9.4 T) to reveal the field strength dependence of their magnetic responses, and to compare them with that of ferucarbotran, a well-known superparamagnetic contrast agent. The measurements showed characteristic differences between the tested magnetic fluids stabilized by carboxylic compounds and ferucarbotran. It is worthy of note that our magnetic fluids have the highest r2 relaxivities at the field strength of 1.5 T, where the most of the MRI works in worldwide.

In order to reduce the pollution load of the Danube, the North-Budapest Wastewater Treatment Plant has been upgraded to enhanced nitrogen removal by establishing a new activated sludge treatment line and modifying the existing unit for nitrification and denitrification. As both the influent flow rate and the influent chemical oxygen demand (COD), biological oxygen demand (BOD5) and total suspended solids (TSS) concentration levels remained far below the design values, setting one fourth of the reactor volume out of operation in the Old Line, and operating the nitrification reactor of the New Line with part-time aeration proved to be possible. Analytical data as well as simulation studies supported the advantage of the intermittent-aeration process in efficient N-removal. However, the lengths of the aerated periods have to be increased with decreasing temperature, and thereby effluent total nitrogen (TN) concentration can increase due to decreasing denitrification efficiency. Potential occurrence of low-dissolved oxygen (DO) bulking should be hindered through applying an efficient anoxic selector system.

6-Methyl substituted 2-aryl- and 2-benzylthiopyridinium N-imides reacted with an excess of isocyanates to give N,N-disubstituted exocyclic1H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridin-2(3H)-ones. The products easily underwent spontaneous [1,5] hydrogen shift to provide the heteroaromatic imidazopyridinone isomers. The transformation implied the initial formation of [1,2,4]triazolo[2,3-a]pyridinium salt, followed by deprotonation and carbamoylation of the methylene moiety, and, finally, a rearrangement following a [1,3] sigmatropic pattern. Mechanistic considerations suggest and some experimental findings reveal the nonconcerted two-step mechanism of the ring transformation step.

all-endo-3-amino-5-hydroxybicyclo[2.2.2]octane-2-carboxylic acid (13) and all-endo-5-amino-6-(hydroxymethyl)bicyclo[2.2.2]octan-2-ol (10) were prepared via dihydro-1,3-oxazine or gamma-lactone intermediates by the stereoselective functionalization of an N-protected derivative of endo-3-aminobicyclo[2.2.2]oct-5-ene-2-carboxylic acid (2). Ring closure of beta-amino ester 4 resulted in tricyclic pyrimidinones 15 and 16. The structures, stereochemistry and relative configurations of the synthesized compounds were determined by IR and NMR.

BackgroundAnalyses of the control region sequences of European brown trout populations’ mitrochondrial DNA have revealed five main evolutionary lineages (Atlantic, Danubian, Mediterranean, Adriatic, Marble) mostly relating to the main water basins; however, the hybridization between lineages were increasingly reported. Due to the hydrogeography of Hungary, wild populations should theoretically belong to the Danubian lineage, however, this has not been verified by genetic studies.MethodsIn our study multiple molecular marker sets (mitochondrial sequence, microsatellites, PCR-RFLP of nuclear markers and sex marker) were used to investigate the genetic composition and population genetics of the brown trout populations in two broodstocks, six wild streams in Hungary and one Serbian population.ResultsThe admixture of Atlantic and Danubian lineages in these populations, except the Serbian population with pure Danubian origin, was observed by control region sequences of mitochondrial DNA and PCR-RFLP markers in the nuclear genome, and one unpublished Danubian haplotype was found in Hungarian populations. A sex-specific marker revealed equal gender ratio in broodstocks and Kemence stream, whereas in other wild streams the proportion of female individuals were less than 50%. Structure and principal component analyses based on the alleles of microsatellite loci also revealed overlapping populations, however the populations were still significantly different from each other and were mostly in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium.DiscussionStocking and migration can have a significant genetic impact on trout populations of wild streams, however there are no guidelines or common practices for stocking of small streams in Hungary, thus the genetic background of these populations should be considered when developing conservation actions.

A tanulmány Burgenland példáján keresztül vizsgálja, hogy szerves fejlődés, valamint közös történelmi és kulturális gyökerek hiányában lehetséges-e, s ha igen, milyen időhorizonton a regionális identitás kialakulása.

Starting from the of bicyclic proline ester, ethyl exo-2-azabicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-3-carboxylate (+)-5 several hydantoines and thiohydantoines were prepared by acidic ring closure of the corresponding urea or thiourea derivatives. Enantiomer (-)-5 was reduced to 2-azanorbornylmethanol 12, which was transformed to 5,8-methanooxazolo- and thiazolo[3,4-a] pyridine derivatives. The structures, stereochemistry and relative configurations of the synthesized compounds were proved by NMR.

In our experimental work the pilot plant and full scale anaerobic bioreactors of a communal sewage treatment plant were tested by applying usual control parameters (pH, volatile acid content, alkalinity, gas composition), and enzyme activity (dehydrogenase, protease, lipase) measurements. Influence of temperature change was examined in pilot plant scale, while the effect of alteration in specific organic matter load both in pilot and full scale. Among the control parameters only the change of the volatile acid concentration reflected the occurred influences. During the temperature varying experimental phase the dehydrogenase enzyme activity excellently indicated the influence of the different conditions. The effect of altering substrate load onto the gas production was also well followed by the enzyme activity data (mainly protease, lipase), and more rapidly than by measuring volatile acid concentration. In practice it is expedient to use enzyme activity measurements in those cases, when changes in the substrate composition and load are frequent. Another advantage of these tests is that they can be carried out quickly and at a relative low cost.

Introduction Prognosis after opening the obstructed coronary artery in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is influenced by several factors. In routine clinical practice, revascularization is considered to be successful when the restoration of epicardial blood-flow is complete. However, the patent epicardial artery does not always provide functional recovery in the myocardium. There are two visual angiographic grades to assess myocardial perfusion: myocardial blush grade (MBG) and TIMI myocardial perfusion grade (TMP). The aim of our study was to compare these two parameters, how they correlate with short-term indicators of myocardial damage. Patients and methods The two visual grades were assessed along with enzymatic infarct size as creatine kinase release (CK), echocardiographic left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), and ST-segment resolution (STR) in 62 patients with acute myocardial infarction and successful revascularization. The purpose of the experiments was to increase the rate of activated sludge denitrification in the combined biological treatment system of the Southpest Wastewater Treatment Plant in order to gain savings in cost and energy and improve process efficiency. Initial profile measurements revealed excess denitrification capacity of the preclarified wastewater. As a consequence, flow of nitrification filter effluent recirculated to the anoxic activated sludge basins was increased from 23,000 m3 d−1 to 42,288 m3 d−1 at an average preclarified influent flow of 64,843 m3 d−1, Both simulation studies and microbiological investigations suggested that activated sludge nitrification, achieved despite the low SRT (2–3 days), was initiated by the backseeding from the nitrification filters and facilitated by the decreased oxygen demand of the influent organics used for denitrification. With the improved activated sludge denitrification, methanol demand could be decreased to about half of the initial value. Erdheim-Chester's disease is a rare multisystem xanthogranulomatosis, afflicting the skeletal system with the occasional involvement of soft tissues. We delineate an unusual case of a cardiac variant of Erdheim-Chester's disease presenting with pericardial effusion and as a collision with a synchronous orbital manifestation. We describe our diagnostic pathway and propose a novel treatment option involving nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The role of cyclo-oxygenase in the disease process and inhibition thereof by NSAIDs is hypothesized and discussed.

This review is intended to give a short summary of the developments in the field of natural and synthetic alicyclic and heterocyclic hydroxylated β-amino acids and to focus on the main strategies that have been reported for their synthesis. Given the medicinal and biological significance of the hydroxylated β-amino acids, an increasing volume of research is currently being directed toward regio-, stereo- and enantioselective access to this class of compounds.

By means of total regio- and diastereoselective functionalizations of cis- and trans-2-amino-4-cyclohexenecarboxylic acid derivatives 1, 9, 12 and 16, isomers of 2-amino-4-hydroxycyclohexanecarboxylic acid 8 and 11, and 2-amino-5-hydroxycyclohexanecarboxylic acid 15 and 19 were prepared in good yields, via 1,3-oxazine or γ-lactone intermediates. The enantiomers of 8 and 15 were also prepared by the same pathway, resulting in products with ee > 99 %. A set of structurally varied indano[1,2-d][1,3]oxazines and thiazines, which are new ring systems, were prepared by ring-closure reactions of amino alcohols 4–6. The reactions of cis- and trans-1-amino- and cis- 1-benzylamino-2-hydroxymethylindane (4–6) with 1 equivalent of an aromatic aldehyde in methanol at room temperature resulted in three-component equilibria (15a-g), or a Schiff base (16), or a ring-closure product alone (17a-c), respectively, depending on the substitution or configuration of the starting amino alcohol. The ring-chain tautomeric equilibria can be described by an equation of Hammett type.
