Purpose To find a possible association between patients’ cooperation, perceived pain, and ocular dominance in patients who undergo photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). Methods One hundred-one eligible candidates for PRK refractive surgery were recruited. Preoperative exams were performed for all patients, and the dominant eye was specified. The surgeon was unaware about which eye was dominant. After surgery, the surgeon completed a cooperation score form for each patient. Ocular cyclotorsion, cooperation, and perceived pain scores were compared between the first-second eye surgeries and between dominant-non-dominant eyes surgeries. Results The dominant eye was the right eye in 68 patients and the left eye in 33 patients. First, eye surgery was performed on the dominant eye in 56 patients and on the non-dominant eye in 45 patients. Cooperation score and perceived pain were not significantly different between the first and second eye surgeries (P = 0.902 and P = 0.223, respectively), but cyclotorsion was more in the second eye (P = 0.031). Cooperation score, pain score, and cyclotorsion were not significantly different between dominant and non-dominant eye surgeries (P = 0.538, P = 0.581, and P = 0.193, respectively). Also, there was no correlation between cooperation score and duration of the surgery for the first or second eye (P = 0.12 and P = 0.78). Conclusion During PRK surgery, the patients’ cooperation and perceived pain did not seem to be associated with eye laterality or dominancy.

Purpose To compare patient-reported outcomes (PROs) and satisfaction results after multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) implantation in three groups: two receiving bilateral implantation of the same IOL and another undergoing blended vision with two different multifocal IOLs. Patients and methods A questionnaire was administered to patients who had undergone uncomplicated cataract surgery and 2 months of follow-up: the first group underwent bilateral implantation with Alcon's AcrySof ReSTOR 3.0 lens ("3.0/3.0," n=78); the second group underwent implantation with the ReSTOR ActiveFocus 2.5 or the ReSTOR ActiveFocus 2.5 toric lens ("2.5 mini-monovision," n=102); and the third group underwent implantation with the ReSTOR 2.5 lens in the dominant eye and the ReSTOR 3.0 lens in the non-dominant eye ("2.5/3.0," n=89). Results Overall PROs and satisfaction was similar among the groups. Refractive outcomes and accuracy were similar among the groups, but the 2.5 mini-monovision group reported better intermediate vision. Refractive outcome differences were not meaningful among the groups and were not a differentiating factor in PROs. Purpose To compare the effect of amblyopia therapy on cases who received interactive binocular treatment (I-BiT™) with those who received standard patching of the dominant eye with placebo I-BiT™. Methods In this randomized clinical trial, 38 unilateral amblyopic children (3–10 years old) were studied. All unilateral amblyopic children who had best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) worse than 0.30 logMAR or a difference of two Snellen lines of BCVA between their two eyes were included, and children who did not complete at least 75% of amblyopia treatment were excluded from this study. Eventually, a total of 19 and 21 subjects were included in case and control groups, respectively. Cases played I-BiT™ games, while controls had standard patch therapy and played with placebo I-BiT™ games, both for one month. All subjects were examined at baseline and after one-month therapy. Stereoscopic image quality evaluation is extremely significance as a performance evaluator of modern 3D display technology. Due to the complexity of human visual system (HVS) and the incomprehensive study of stereoscopic perception of human eyes, stereoscopic image quality assessment (SIQA) is still a challenging task. In this paper, combining binocular characteristics, we propose an efficient no-reference stereoscopic image quality assessment according to binocular adding and subtracting channels. Distinguished from other SIQA methods, which pay attention to complex binocular visual properties, the visual information which is closely bound up with image distortion from adding and subtracting channels to describe ocular dominance (alternate name binocularity) is proposed. To estimate the contribution of each channel in SIQA, a dynamic weighting system is proposed for binocular fusion according to local energy. Furthermore, quality awareness features based on multi-scale and multi-orientation are extracted to describe visual degradation. Comparing with existing methods, experimental results on public 3D image databases demonstrate the proposed framework achieves high consistent with the subjective quality scores.

The competitive and inhibitory interactions between the two eyes’ images are a pervasive aspect of binocular vision. Over the last decade, our understanding of the neural processes underpinning binocular rivalry (BR) and continuous flash suppression (CFS) has increased substantially, but we still have little understanding of the relationship between these two effects and their variation in the general population. Studies that pool data across individuals and eyes risk masking substantial variations in binocular vision that exist in the general population. To investigate this issue we compared the depth of inter-ocular suppression evoked by BR with that elicited by CFS, in a group (N = 25) of visually normal individuals. A noise pattern (either static for BR or dynamic for CFS) was presented to one eye and its suppressive influence on a probe grating presented simultaneously to the other eye was measured. We found substantial individual differences in the magnitude of suppression (a 10-fold variation in probe detection threshold) evoked by each task, but performance on BR was a significant predictor of performance on the CFS task. However many individuals showed marked asymmetries between the two eyes’ ability to detect a suppressed target, that were not necessarily the same for the two tasks. There was a tendency for the magnitude of the asymmetry to increase as the refresh rate of the dynamic noise increased. The results suggest a common underlying mechanism is likely to be responsible, at least in part, for driving inter-ocular suppression under BR and CFS. The marked asymmetries in inter-ocular suppression at higher noise refresh rates, may be indicative of a difference in temporal processing between the eyes.

Purpose To assess spectacle independence and patient satisfaction with pseudophakic mini-monovision in patients undergoing routine bilateral cataract surgery with implantation of an aspherical aberration-free intraocular lens (Akreos AO, Bausch and Lomb, USA). Methods This study was a retrospective analysis that included 60 eyes of 30 consecutive patients between 2016 and 2018. The included patients had undergone sequential bilateral routine phacoemulsification after choosing the mini-monovision option. Test for ocular dominance was done using a sighting test. Emmetropia was aimed at in the dominant eye, while in the non-dominant eye the aim was myopia between -1 D and -1.5 D. The main outcome parameters were uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA), and data reported from a questionnaire given to the patients at 3 months postoperative visit. Results The study included 60 eyes of 30 consecutive patients. The mean binocular UDVA was 0.09 ± 0.07 logMAR. Twenty-eight patients (93%) had binocular UDVA of 0.2 logMAR or better. The mean binocular uncorrected intermediate distance visual acuity (at 65 cm) was 0.16 ± 0.12 logMAR. Twenty-six patients (87%) had binocular uncorrected intermediate distance visual acuity of 0.2 logMAR or better. The mean binocular UNVA (at 35 cm) was 0.30 ± 0.21 logMAR. Fourteen patients (47%) had binocular UNVA of 0.2 logMAR or better. The patients score in the questionnaire was significantly higher in far and intermediate vision than near vision (p = 0.022). The patients score was significantly higher in day vision than night vision (p = 0.031). The mean overall patient satisfaction was good (9.1 ± 1.54). Twenty-eight patients (93%) reported high spectacle independence for far vision (score 8, 9, or 10). Conclusion Pseudophakic mini-monovision shows good results for spectacle independence and high patient satisfaction. It is a safe and inexpensive option after bilateral cataract surgery for correcting distance and intermediate vision. However, it might show lower results with near and night vision which is generally acceptable. Using aberration-free monofocal IOL allows for the residual normal positive corneal aberration that may augment the effect of monovision.

The deletion of matrix metalloproteinase MMP9 is combined here with chronic monocular deprivation (cMD) to identify the contributions of this proteinase to plasticity in the visual system. Calcium imaging of supragranular neurons of the binocular region of primary visual cortex (V1b) of wild-type mice revealed that cMD initiated at eye opening significantly decreased the strength of deprived-eye visual responses to all stimulus contrasts and spatial frequencies. cMD did not change the selectivity of V1b neurons for the spatial frequency, but orientation selectivity was higher in low spatial frequency-tuned neurons, and orientation and direction selectivity were lower in high spatial frequency-tuned neurons. Constitutive deletion of MMP9 did not impact the stimulus selectivity of V1b neurons, including ocular preference and tuning for spatial frequency, orientation, and direction. However, MMP9−/− mice were completely insensitive to plasticity engaged by cMD, such that the strength of the visual responses evoked by deprived-eye stimulation was maintained across all stimulus contrasts, orientations, directions, and spatial frequencies. Other forms of experience-dependent plasticity, including stimulus selective response potentiation, were normal in MMP9−/− mice. Thus, MMP9 activity is dispensable for many forms of activity-dependent plasticity in the mouse visual system, but is obligatory for the plasticity engaged by cMD.

Neurons remodel the structure and strength of their synapses during critical periods of development in order to optimize both perception and cognition. Many of these developmental synaptic changes are thought to occur through synapse-specific homosynaptic forms of experience-dependent plasticity. However, homosynaptic plasticity can also induce or contribute to the plasticity of neighboring synapses through heterosynaptic interactions. Decades of research in vitro have uncovered many of the molecular mechanisms of heterosynaptic plasticity that mediate local compensation for homosynaptic plasticity, facilitation of further bouts of plasticity in nearby synapses, and cooperative induction of plasticity by neighboring synapses acting in concert. These discoveries greatly benefited from new tools and technologies that permitted single synapse imaging and manipulation of structure, function, and protein dynamics in living neurons. With the recent advent and application of similar tools for in vivo research, it is now feasible to explore how heterosynaptic plasticity contribute to critical periods and the development of neuronal circuits. In this review, we will first define the forms heterosynaptic plasticity can take and describe our current understanding of their molecular mechanisms. Then, we will outline how heterosynaptic plasticity may lead to meaningful refinement of neuronal responses and observations that suggest such mechanisms are indeed at work in vivo. Finally, we will use a well-studied model of cortical plasticity—ocular dominance plasticity during a critical period of visual cortex development—to highlight the molecular overlap between heterosynaptic and developmental forms of plasticity, and suggest potential avenues of future research.

Brief periods of monocular deprivation significantly modify binocular visual processing. For example, patching one eye for a few hours alters the inter-ocular balance, with the previously patched eye becoming dominant once the patch is removed (Lunghi, Burr, & Morrone, 2011; Lunghi, Burr, & Morrone, 2013). However, the contribution of higher-level visual processing to this phenomenon is still unclear. Here, we compared changes in sensory eye dominance produced by three types of monocular manipulations in adult participants with normal binocular vision. One eye was covered for 150 minutes using either an opaque patch, a diffusing lens, or a prism that inverted the image. All three manipulations altered dominance duration and predominance during binocular rivalry (BR) in favour of the treated eye and the time courses of the changes were similar. These results indicate that modifications of luminance or contrast are not strictly necessary to drive shifts in eye dominance, as both were unaltered in the prism condition. Next, we found that shifts in eye dominance were dependent on attentional demands during the monocular treatment period, providing support for the role of attentional eye selection in modulating eye dominance. Finally, we found relatively rapid build-up of the ocular dominance shift after the onset of monocular treatment. Taken together, our results suggest that modifications to monocular input alter inter-ocular balance via selective attentional mechanisms that bias output towards the deprived eye. Eye-based attention may play an important role in conditions where normal input to one eye is disrupted, such as childhood amblyopia.

From birth, infants orient preferentially to faces, and when looking at the face, they attend primarily to eyes and mouth – two areas that convey different types of information. Here, in a sample of 535 5-month-old infant twins, we assessed eye (relative to mouth) preference in early infancy. Eye preference was independent from all other concurrent traits measured, and had a moderate-to-high contribution from genetic influences (A = .57; 95% CI: .45, .66). Preference for eyes over mouth at 5 months predicted higher parent ratings of verbal competence in toddlerhood, but did not predict autistic traits. These results suggest that variation in eye looking reflects a type of biological niche picking emerging before infants can select their environments by other means (crawling or walking).

While there is evidence that the visual cortex retains a potential for plasticity in adulthood, less is known about the subcortical stages of visual processing. Here we asked whether short-term ocular dominance plasticity affects the visual thalamus. We addressed this question in normally sighted adult humans, using ultra-high field (7T) magnetic resonance imaging combined with the paradigm of short-term monocular deprivation. With this approach, we previously demonstrated transient shifts of perceptual eye dominance and ocular dominance in visual cortex (Binda et al., 2018). Here we report evidence for short-term plasticity in the ventral division of the pulvinar (vPulv), where the deprived eye representation was enhanced over the non-deprived eye. This pulvinar plasticity effect was similar as previously seen in visual cortex and it was correlated with the ocular dominance shift measured behaviorally. In contrast, there was no short-term plasticity effect in Lateral Geniculate Nucleus (LGN), where results were reliably different from vPulv, despite their spatial proximity. We conclude that the visual thalamus retains potential for short-term plasticity in adulthood; the plasticity effect differs across thalamic subregions, possibly reflecting differences in their cortical connectivity.

A manipulator attached with a stainless wire was placed under the objective lens of a stereomicroscope. The wire was moved up manually, and the subjects were instructed to stop the knob movement once the wire reached the same height as the fixed two wires. The deviation from the height of the fixed wires was measured under a best optically corrected binocular, a best optically corrected monocular, or an anisometropic binocular [± 3 diopters (D) in the dominant or nondominant eye] condition.Results: The deviation was significantly smaller in the binocular condition than in the monocular dominant eye condition (0.38 ± 0.26 mm vs 1.89 ± 1.15 mm, p < 0.001) and was also significantly smaller in the best optically corrected binocular than in the anisometropic binocular condition [1.07 ± 1.00 mm (− 3.0 D), p = 0.003; 0.85 ± 0.67 mm (+3.0 D), p < 0.001].Conclusion: Depth perception under the microscope is more accurate under the binocular than in the monocular condition, indicating the potential role of stereopsis. Anisometropia deteriorates depth perception, suggesting that refractive error should be corrected during microscopic work, such as during ophthalmic surgery.Keywords: anisometropia, dynamic stereopsis, stereopsis, three-rods test

Purpose Our visual system compares the inputs received from the two eyes to estimate the relative depths of features in the retinal image. We investigated how an imbalance in the strength of the input received from the two eyes affects stereopsis. We also explored the level of agreement between different measurements of sensory eye imbalance. Methods We measured the sensory eye imbalance and stereoacuity of 30 normally sighted participants. We made our measurements using a modified amblyoscope. The sensory eye imbalance was assessed through three methods: the difference between monocular contrast thresholds, the difference in dichoptic masking weight, and the contribution of each eye to a fused binocular percept. We referred them as the "threshold imbalance," "masking imbalance," and "fusion imbalance," respectively. The stereoacuity threshold was measured by having subjects discriminate which of four circles were displaced in depth. All of our tests were performed using stimuli of the same spatial frequency (2.5 cycles/degree). Results We found a relationship between stereoacuity and sensory eye imbalance. However, this was only the case for fusion imbalance measurement (ρ = 0.52; P = 0.003). Neither the threshold imbalance nor the masking imbalance was significantly correlated with stereoacuity. We also found the threshold imbalance was correlated with both the fusion and masking imbalances (r = 0.46, P = 0.011 and r = 0.49, P = 0.005, respectively). However, a nonsignificant correlation was found between the fusion and masking imbalances. Conclusions Our findings suggest that there exist multiple types of sensory eye dominance that can be assessed by different tasks. We find only imbalances in dominance that result in biases to fused percepts are correlated with stereoacuity.

Disinhibition is an obligatory initial step in the remodeling of cortical circuits by sensory experience. Our investigation on disinhibitory mechanisms in the classical model of ocular dominance plasticity uncovered an unexpected form of experience-dependent circuit plasticity. In the layer 2/3 of mouse visual cortex, monocular deprivation triggers a complete, “all-or-none,” elimination of connections from pyramidal cells onto nearby parvalbumin-positive interneurons (Pyr→PV). This binary form of circuit plasticity is unique, as it is transient, local, and discrete. It lasts only 1 d, and it does not manifest as widespread changes in synaptic strength; rather, only about half of local connections are lost, and the remaining ones are not affected in strength. Mechanistically, the deprivation-induced loss of Pyr→PV is contingent on a reduction of the protein neuropentraxin2. Functionally, the loss of Pyr→PV is absolutely necessary for ocular dominance plasticity, a canonical model of deprivation-induced model of cortical remodeling. We surmise, therefore, that this all-or-none loss of local Pyr→PV circuitry gates experience-dependent cortical plasticity.

Between the cornea and the posterior pole of the eye, there is a transepithelial potential capable of being registered through an electrooculogram (EOG). It is questionable whether electrooculographic responses are similar in both eyes despite ocular dominance in human beings. We studied the effect of different electrooculographic stimulation parameters, in terms of directionality, linear and angular velocity, contrast, and state of adaptation to light/dark, that may induce possible interocular differences in visual function. The study was carried out with electroencephalography-type surface electrodes placed in the medial, lateral, superior, and inferior positions of both human eyes to record the eye movements. We found a greater amplitude of the EOG response in the left eye than to the right eye for light bars moving from right to left (p &lt, 0.01, t-test). The EOG response amplitude was similar in both eyes for light bars moving in vertical directions, but greater than horizontal or rotational stimuli. We conclude that vertical stimuli should be used for EOG functional evaluation of eye movements, since horizontal stimuli generate significant interocular differences.

Wavefront-guided laser in situ keratomileusis (WFG-LASIK) and small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) are keratorefractive surgeries that can improve uncorrected visual acuity in myopic patients. Comparison of visual outcomes in myopic patients treated with LASIK and SMILE is needed.Prospective, randomized contralateral eye-controlled trial.We performed a single-center prospective, randomized contralateral eye comparison of WFG-LASIK and SMILE (NCT03067077). Myopic patients with low levels of astigmatism were treated with WFG-LASIK in one eye and SMILE in the fellow eye from March 2017 to March 2021. Treatments were randomized by ocular dominance. WFG-LASIK and SMILE were performed. Postoperative evaluation at 1 day consisted of uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), wavefront aberrometry, and a slit-lamp examination. On subsequent postoperative visits at 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months, UDVA, manifest refraction, 5% and 25% low-contrast visual acuity, wavefront aberrometry, and slit-lamp examination were performed.The primary outcome measure was UDVA at 12 months.Eighty-eight eyes of 44 patients with myopia were enrolled in the study. Seventy-four eyes of 37 patients had successful treatments and completed 12 months of follow-up. At postoperative month 12, there were a significantly higher proportion of WFG-LASIK eyes that had ≥20/20 UDVA compared with SMILE eyes (94% vs 83%, P.05). There was no difference between spherical equivalent between WFG-LASIK eyes and SMILE eyes (-0.17 ± 0.25 vs -0.29 ± 0.38, P.05); there was no difference in higher order aberrations, including coma, trefoil, and spherical aberrations (P0.05); and there were a significantly higher proportion of WFG-LASIK eyes that had improved 5% and 25% low-contrast visual acuity compared with SMILE eyes (P0.05).WFG-LASIK and SMILE both offered marked improvements in corrected distance visual acuity and excellent predictability in both eyes. Compared with SMILE, WFG-LASIK resulted in faster visual recovery, better low-contrast visual acuity, and greater gains in uncorrected visual acuity.

Because at least some squirrel monkeys lack ocular dominance columns (ODCs) in the striate cortex (V1) that are detectable by cytochrome oxidase (CO) histochemistry, the functional importance of ODCs on stereoscopic 3-D vision has been questioned. However, conventional CO histochemistry or trans-synaptic tracer study has limited capacity to reveal cortical functional architecture, whereas the expression of immediate-early genes (IEGs), c-FOS and ZIF268, is more directly responsive to neuronal activity of cortical neurons to demonstrate ocular dominance (OD)-related domains in V1 following monocular inactivation. Thus, we wondered whether IEG expression would reveal ODCs in the squirrel monkey V1. In this study, we first examined CO histochemistry in V1 of five squirrel monkeys that were subjected to monocular enucleation or tetrodotoxin (TTX) treatment to address whether there is substantial cross-individual variation as reported previously. Then, we examined the IEG expression of the same V1 tissue to address whether OD-related domains are revealed. As a result, staining patterns of CO histochemistry were relatively homogeneous throughout layer 4 of V1. IEG expression was also moderate and homogeneous throughout layer 4 of V1 in all cases. On the other hand, the IEG expression was patchy in accordance with CO blobs outside layer 4, particularly in infragranular layers, although they may not directly represent OD clusters. Squirrel monkeys remain an exceptional species among anthropoid primates with regard to OD organization, and thus are potentially good subjects to study the development and function of ODCs.

Purpose To analyze the visual outcomes, contrast sensitivity (CS), and patient satisfaction differences between the bilateral implantation of a trifocal intraocular lens (IOL) and the mix–match implantation of an extended-depth-of-focus (EDOF) IOL and a diffractive trifocal IOL. Methods A total of 20 patients who underwent bilateral implantation of AT LISA tri 839MP (Group 1) and 20 patients who had a mix–match implantation of AT LARA 829MP in the dominant eye and AT LISA tri 839MP in the nondominant eye (Group 2) were evaluated. Uncorrected distance (4 m), intermediate (60 cm and 80 cm), and near (40 cm) visual acuity, as well as CS, defocus curve, and responses to the patient questionnaires, were evaluated. Results Eighty eyes of 40 patients were included. Uncorrected distance and near visual outcomes were similar between the groups (p [0.05). Group 2 showed significantly better intermediate visual outcomes at 60 cm and 80 cm than Group 1 (p \0.05). Group 2 showed significantly better CS outcomes (photopic and mesopic) than Group 1 (p \0.05). There was no significant difference between the groups regarding defocus curves from ? 0.00 D to - 2.00 D, but a significant difference was shown from - 2.00 D to - 4.00 D. Patients’ satisfaction was significantly higher in Group 2 for driving at night (p\0.05). Conclusions Both groups showed an effective visual performance. Group 2 exhibited better photopic and mesopic CS. The combination of EDOF and trifocal IOL seems to be a good option with a comfortable vision at all distances and less adverse visual phenomena.

Purpose: This study aimed to verify if patients with developmental dyslexia present deficits coherent with visual magnocellular dysfunction. Methods: Participants with confirmed diagnosis of developmental dyslexia (n=62; age range=8-25 years; mean age=13.8 years, standard deviation=3.9; 77% male) were compared to a control group with normal development, matched for age, sex, ocular dominance, visual acuity, and text comprehension. The frequency-doubling technology perimetry was used to evaluate the peripheral visual field contrast sensitivity threshold. The Visagraph III Eye-Movement Recording System was used to evaluate ocular motor skills during text reading. Results: The developmental dyslexia group had significantly worse contrast sensitivity in the frequency-doubling technology, with strong effect size, than the matched control group. The developmental dyslexia group had more eyes classified in the impaired range of sensitivity threshold to detect frequency-doubling illusion than the control group. Moreover, the developmental dyslexia group had poorer ocular motor skills and reading performance, revealed by a difference in ocular fixations, regressions, span recognition, reading rate, and relative efficiency between groups. A significant correlation was found between contrast sensitivity and ocular motor skills. Participants with good relative efficiency had significantly better contrast sensitivity than participants with poor relative efficiency. Conclusions: The developmental dyslexia group presented a markedly worse performance in visual variables related to visual magnocellular function (i.e., frequency-doubling technology perimetry and ocular motor skills) compared with a matched control group. Professionals need to be aware of the importance of evaluating vision of individuals with developmental dyslexia beyond visual acuity and including in their assessments instruments to evaluate temporal processing, with contrast sensitivity threshold. Métodos: Participantes com diagnóstico confirmado de dislexia do desenvolvimento (n=62; faixa etária=8 a 25 anos; Média da idade=13.8 anos, desvio padrão=3.9; 77% homens) foram comparados a um grupo controle com desenvolvimento típico, pareado por idade, sexo, dominância ocular, acuidade visual e compreensão de texto. A perimetria Frequency-Doubling Technology avaliou o limiar de sensibilidade ao contraste do campo visual periférico. O rastreador ocular Visagraph-III registrou os movimentos dos olhos durante leitura de texto. Resultados: O grupo com dislexia do desenvolvimento apresentou piores limiares de sensibilidade no Frequency-Doubling Technology , com tamanho de efeito forte, do que o grupo controle. O grupo com dislexia do desenvolvimento apresentou mais olhos classificados com déficits na sensibilidade à ilusão de frequência duplicada do que o grupo controle. O grupo com dislexia do desenvolvimento apresentou pior habilidade motora ocular e no desempenho de leitura, revelado pela diferença entre os grupos em relação às fixações oculares, regressões, alcance de reconhecimento, taxa de leitura e eficiência relativa. Foi encontrada correlação significativa entre a sensibilidade ao contraste e as habilidades motoras oculares. Os participantes com boa eficiência relativa apresentaram uma sensibilidade ao contraste significativamente melhor do que os participantes com baixa eficiência relativa. Conclusões: O grupo com dislexia do desenvolvimento apresentou desempenho inferior nas variáveis visuais relacionadas à função visual magnocelular (i.e., perimetria de frequência duplicada e habilidades motoras oculares), quando comparado ao grupo controle pareado. Os profissionais precisam estar cientes da importância de investigar a visão dos pacientes com dislexia do desenvolvimento além da acuidade visual e incluir nos seus procedimentos diagnósticos instrumentos para avaliar o processamento temporal, com limiar de sensibilidade ao contraste.
