Abstract

This combined text and study guide is for use by high school and junior college students enrolled in first year technical drawing courses and can also be used by the instructors in conjunction with any standard drawing test. It was developed by the author and tested in local classes before publication. The major sections are (1) Drafting Room Orientation, (2) Introduction to Drawing, (3) Multiview Sketching and Projection, (4) Working Drawing Interpretation, (5) Sections and Related Conventions, and (6) Isometric Drawings. Each of the 28 lessons includes objectives, references, textual material, and one or more assignments. Illustrations are line drawings and half tones. Supplementary material consist of 12 standard reference tables such as American Standard Association abbreviations, force and shrink fits, and thread standards. (EM)

Abstract

Introduction: We studied the replication and generalization of previously identified metabolites potentially associated with global cognitive function in multiple race/ethnicities and assessed the contribution of diet to these associations. Methods: We tested metabolite‐cognitive function associations in U.S.A. Hispanic/Latino adults (n = 2222) from the Community Health Study/ Study of Latinos (HCHS/SOL) and in European (n = 1365) and African (n = 478) Americans from the Atherosclerosis Risk In Communities (ARIC) Study. We applied Mendelian Randomization (MR) analyses to assess causal associations between the metabolites and cognitive function and between Mediterranean diet and cognitive function. Results: Six metabolites were consistently associated with lower global cognitive function across all studies. Of these, four were sugar‐related (e.g., ribitol). MR analyses provided weak evidence for a potential causal effect of ribitol on cognitive function and bi‐directional effects of cognitive performance on diet. Discussion: Several diet‐related metabolites were associated with global cognitive function across studies with different race/ethnicities. Highlights: Metabolites associated with cognitive function in Puerto Rican adults were recently identified.We demonstrate the generalizability of these associations across diverse race/ethnicities.Most identified metabolites are related to sugars.Mendelian Randomization (MR) provides weak evidence for a causal effect of ribitol on cognitive function.Beta‐cryptoxanthin and other metabolites highlight the importance of a healthy diet. 361. Relationships of Cerebral Perfusion With Gait Speed Across Systolic Blood Pressure Levels and Age: A Cohort Study.

Abstract

Background This study aimed to examine if the association of cerebral perfusion with gait speed differs across systolic blood pressure (SBP) and age. Methods Cerebral perfusion was measured via arterial spin labeled (ASL)-MRI among community-dwelling adults aged 31–94 years in the population-based Mayo Clinic Study of Aging. Usual gait speed was assessed over 5.6 meters on an electronic mat. Sex- and body mass index (BMI)-adjusted linear regression models estimated cross-sectional gait speed associations with ASL and modifying effects of age and SBP using 3-way and 2-way interaction terms between continuous age, SBP, and ASL. Results report estimated differences in gait speed per standard deviation (SD) lower ASL for exemplar SBPs and ages. Results Among 479 participants (mean age 67.6 years; 44% women; mean gait speed 1.17 m/s), ASL relations to gait speed varied by age (ASL-x–age interaction: p =.001) and SBP (ASL-x–SBP interaction: p =.009). At an SBP of 120 mmHg, each SD lower ASL was associated with a 0.04 m/s (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.01, 0.07) slower gait speed at 65 years, 0.07 m/s (0.04, 0.10) at 75 years, and 0.09 m/s (0.05, 0.13) at 85 years. At an SBP of 140 mmHg, ASL associations with gait speed were attenuated to 0.01 (−0.01, 0.04), 0.04 (0.02, 0.06), and 0.06 (0.04, 0.09) m/s slower gait speed at ages 65, 75, and 85, respectively. Conclusion Poorer cerebral perfusion is associated with clinically meaningful slower gait speeds, particularly with older age, while higher perfusion markedly attenuates age differences in gait speed. Abstract

Machine learning methods have been applied to estimate measures of brain aging from neuroimages. However, only rarely have these measures been examined in the context of biologic age. Here, we investigated associations of an MRI-based measure of dementia risk, the Alzheimer's disease pattern similarity (AD-PS) scores, with measures used to calculate biological age. Participants were those from visit 5 of the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study with cognitive status adjudication, proteomic data, and AD-PS scores available. The AD-PS score estimation is based on previously reported machine learning methods. We evaluated associations of the AD-PS score with all-cause mortality. Sensitivity analyses using only cognitively normal (CN) individuals were performed treating CNS-related causes of death as competing risk. AD-PS score was examined in association with 32 proteins measured, using a Somalogic platform, previously reported to be associated with age. Finally, associations with a deficit accumulation index (DAI) based on a count of 38 health conditions were investigated. All analyses were adjusted for age, race, sex, education, smoking, hypertension, and diabetes. The AD-PS score was significantly associated with all-cause mortality and with levels of 9 of the 32 proteins. Growth/differentiation factor 15 (GDF-15) and pleiotrophin remained significant after accounting for multiple-testing and when restricting the analysis to CN participants. A linear regression model showed a significant association between DAI and AD-PS scores overall. While the AD-PS scores were created as a measure of dementia risk, our analyses suggest that they could also be capturing brain aging. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

365. A novel electrocardiogram-based model for prediction of dementia—The Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) study.

Abstract

Create an ECG-based model to predict dementia and compare its performance with the existing Cardiovascular Risk Factors, Aging, and Dementia (CAIDE) model. Participants without prevalent dementia in the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities study were studied. Visit 4 (V4) (1996–98, mean age, 62 years) and V5 (2011–13, mean age, 75 years) were used as baselines. Incident dementia cases were adjudicated through 2019. We created parsimonious ECG models by using Cox regression with a backward selection method. C-statistic (95 % CI) of the ECG-based model (two or three ECG variables and age) was higher than the CAIDE model (seven variables) at V4 (0.72 [0.71–0.74] vs. 0.67 [0.66–0.68]) and V5 (0.70 [0.68–0.72] vs. 0.64 [0.62–0.66]). The ECG-based model was well calibrated, but the CAIDE model was poorly calibrated at V4 (P < 0.001). For middle-aged and older adults, a novel ECG-based model has good discrimination that is superior to the CAIDE model in predicting dementia.
