Die Dissertationsschrift thematisiert die Frage nach den Kosten und Nutzen einer Diversifikationsstrategie im europäischen Erdgasmarkt und gliedert sich in neun Kapitel. In einer Vorbetrachtung beschreiben die Kapitel eins bis vier die Ausganglage mit Blick auf Angebots- und Nachfragestrukturen sowie der Gasinfrastruktur. Unsicherheiten in Bezug auf die Entwicklung der Nachfrage, Importverfügbarkeit und Preisniveaus werden diskutiert. In einem analytischen Rahmen wird das Thema Diversifikation in den Kontext der Energiesicherheit eingeordnet. Die Kapitel fünf bis sieben befassen sich mit der Beschreibung und der Analyse des europäischen Gasmarkts. Dafür wird ein lineares Modell, GAMAMOD-EU, entwickelt, welches als stochastische Optimierung den Ausbau der Erdgasinfrastruktur unter Einbezug von drei Unsicherheitsdimensionen in den Jahren 2030 und 2045 abbildet. Zusätzlich werden drei Diversifikationsstrategien in Hinblick auf Infrastrukturentwicklung und Versorgungssicherheit analysiert. In einer Erweiterung wird der Import Grüner Gase in die Betrachtung einbezogen. Kapitel acht stellt das deutsche Gasnetzmodell GAMAMOD-DE mit einer Fallstudie vor, die die Versorgungslage im kalten Winter 2012 nachmodelliert. In a preliminary analysis, chapters one to four describe the initial situation with regard to supply and demand structures as well as the gas infrastructure. Uncertainties regarding the development of demand, import availability and price levels are discussed. In an analytical framework, the topic of diversification is placed in the context of energy security. Chapters five to seven deal with the description and analysis of the European gas market. For this purpose, a linear model, GAMAMOD-EU, is developed, which maps the expansion of the natural gas infrastructure as a stochastic optimisation, taking into account three uncertainty dimensions in the years 2030 and 2045. In addition, three diversification strategies are analysed with regard to infrastructure development and security of supply. In an extension, the import of green gases is included in the analysis. Chapter eight presents the German gas grid model GAMAMOD-DE with a case study, which models the supply situation in the cold winter of 2012. Within the present work, the main objective is to identify interactions between flexibility demand and flexibility supply. Therefore, three research fields regarding the future transformation of the European energy system are addressed. First, an expansion of intermittent renewable energy sources (iRES) is discussed taking the potentials of wind and PV technologies into account. The analysis is based on fundamental considerations of generation characteristics as well as available potentials across 17 countries in central-western Europe. To emphasis the differences in electricity generation between wind and PV, an iRES expansion model is developed coping for geographically highly resolved weather data as well as for limitations of iRES potentials due to land-use restrictions and for energy-policy constraints. Three scenarios with varying Wind-PV ratio in total iRES electricity generation are evaluated. Second, the options to provide flexibility to balance the flexibility demand are introduced and mathematically implemented in ELTRAMOD. Therefore, the model was adjusted to represent multiple flexible technologies for upward, downward and shifting flexibility provision to cover the residual load. In a system perspective and a greenfield approach, the linear electricity market model enables the analysis of cost-optimal combinations of flexibility options against the background of scenarios with different flexibility demands. In addition, the third research field addresses the emerging developments of sector coupling by including selected Power-to-X technologies. A second scenario dimension analyses the role of energy storages in the energy end-use sectors for a more flexible sector coupling. The results underline the importance of the Wind-PV ratios in electricity generation when assessing flexibility demand and flexibility supply in model-based energy system analysis. Due to the higher seasonality of PV, the residual load parameter indicate higher iRES integration challenges in terms of flexible capacity requirements. Particularly the provision of spatial and temporal balancing flexibility is significantly influenced by a higher wind or a higher PV share in the iRES mix. With sector coupling, the value of temporal shifting is increasing. Hourly storages are not only highly sensitive to the Wind-PV ratio, but in addition strongly impacted by sector coupling. In both dimensions, a higher PV share is increasing the value for short-term shifting. Furthermore, sector coupling increases the need for additional electricity generation. Thereby, for peak-load capacity provision gas-fuelled power plant are optimal in the present work increasing the total emissions especially with higher PV shares. The sensitivity analysis shows the value of additional iRES capacities as well as of storage cost reductions to further reduce emissions.

This dissertation examines the state of development of the environmental cost accounting method material flow cost accounting (MFCA). To counter the ever more serious environmental problems such as resource depletion and climate change, environmental management research is searching for solutions on how companies can use the Earth's resources more efficiently. Unlike financial data, resource efficiency data is rarely used for corporate management. Managers have limited attention and specific goals, which is why MFCA links financial data with resource consumption data, making quantities of waste and emissions more visible and controllable. Regardless of its 30-year history, from a theoretical point of view there is no clear picture regarding the accounting method MFCA. While there are some MFCA case studies that demonstrate that MFCA works for its intended purposes, such as detecting inefficiencies, the rather limited number of individual case studies is not sufficient for a general assessment of the method. In addition, practitioners lack a systematic classification of MFCA into categories of conventional accounting methods in order to evaluate the applicability of MFCA in existing accounting systems. Moreover, in spite of a clear exemplification of the accounting method in DIN EN ISO Standard 14051, there is a lack of knowledge about the reasons behind the low diffusion of MFCA in business practice. With this in mind, the dissertation applies the elements of the constructive approach, an approach to solving practical problems, to investigate to what extent MFCA is suitable for addressing the problem, namely the inefficient use of materials in companies, by considering the theoretical connections and contributions as well as the practical relevance and functionality of the MFCA method. To this end, this dissertation examines the relation of MFCA with traditional methods and principles of cost accounting by means of a survey and a literature review. Furthermore, the contribution of MFCA to improving environmental sustainability is explored. Moreover, this dissertation analyzes the practical relevance of MFCA through a meta-synthesis of MFCA case studies. In addition, to better understand the practical functioning of MFCA, the dissertation uses a survey to investigate how MFCA is embedded in the control systems of environmental management which aim to improve and widen the circular economy. The contribution of this dissertation to knowledge about MFCA in theory and practice is diverse. The theoretical classification of MFCA in traditional cost accounting relativizes earlier points of criticism of MFCA and improves the theoretical basis of MFCA. In addition, the meta-synthesis of the case studies enables generalized statements about the ecological and economic effects of MFCA for the first time. Furthermore, the examination of the relationship between MFCA and environmental management control systems in the company reveals the importance of personnel controls in the application of MFCA. In addition, MFCA has been shown to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals. Based on these findings, researchers and practitioners should be able to better understand the MFCA method and thereby improve the use and diffusion of innovative management instruments such as MFCA. Um den immer größer werdenden Umweltproblemen wie Ressourcenverknappung und Klimawandel zu begegnen, sucht die Umweltmanagementforschung nach Lösungen, wie Unternehmen die Ressourcen der Erde effizienter nutzen können. Im Gegensatz zu Finanzdaten werden Daten zur Ressourceneffizienz nur selten für die Unternehmensführung genutzt. Manager haben nur begrenzte Aufmerksamkeit und spezifische Ziele. Deshalb verknüpft MFKR Finanzdaten mit Daten zum Ressourcenverbrauch und macht so Abfallmengen und Emissionen sichtbarer und kontrollierbarer. Ungeachtet ihrer 30-jährigen Geschichte gibt es aus theoretischer Sicht kein klares Bild über die Rechnungslegungsmethode MFKR. Zwar gibt es einige MFKR-Fallstudien, die zeigen, dass MFKR für die beabsichtigten Zwecke funktioniert, z. B. zum Aufspüren von Ineffizienzen, doch reicht die recht begrenzte Zahl von Einzelfallstudien nicht für eine allgemeine Bewertung der Methode aus. Darüber hinaus fehlt den Praktikern eine systematische Einordnung der MFKR in die Kategorien der herkömmlichen Rechnungslegungsmethoden, um die Anwendbarkeit der MFKR in bestehenden Rechnungslegungssystemen zu bewerten. Darüber hinaus fehlt es trotz einer eindeutigen Veranschaulichung der Rechnungslegungsmethode in der DIN EN ISO-Norm 14051 an Wissen über die Gründe für die geringe Verbreitung der MFKR in der betrieblichen Praxis. Vor diesem Hintergrund untersucht die Dissertation mit den Elementen des konstruktiven Ansatzes, einem Ansatz zur Lösung praktischer Probleme, inwieweit die MFKR geeignet ist, das Problem des ineffizienten Materialeinsatzes in Unternehmen zu adressieren, indem sie die theoretischen Zusammenhänge und Beiträge sowie die praktische Relevanz und Funktionalität der MFKR-Methode berücksichtigt. Zu diesem Zweck wird in dieser Dissertation das Verhältnis der MFKR zu den traditionellen Methoden und Prinzipien der Kostenrechnung mittels einer Umfrage und einer Literaturübersicht untersucht. Außerdem wird der Beitrag der MFKR zur Verbesserung der ökologischen Nachhaltigkeit untersucht. Darüber hinaus wird in dieser Arbeit die praktische Relevanz von MFKR durch eine Metasynthese von MFKR-Fallstudien analysiert. Um die praktische Funktionsweise der MFKR besser zu verstehen, wird in der Dissertation außerdem anhand einer Umfrage untersucht, wie die MFKR in die Kontrollsysteme des Umweltmanagements eingebettet ist, die auf die Verbesserung und Ausweitung der Kreislaufwirtschaft abzielen. Der Beitrag dieser Dissertation zum Wissen über MFKR in Theorie und Praxis ist vielfältig. Die theoretische Einordnung der MFKR in die traditionelle Kostenrechnung relativiert frühere Kritikpunkte an der MFKR und verbessert die theoretischen Grundlagen der MFKR. Darüber hinaus ermöglicht die Meta-Synthese der Fallstudien erstmals generalisierte Aussagen über die ökologischen und ökonomischen Auswirkungen von MFKR. Die Untersuchung des Zusammenhangs zwischen MFKR und Umweltmanagement-Kontrollsystemen im Unternehmen zeigt zudem die Bedeutung von Personalkontrollen bei der Anwendung von MFKR. Darüber hinaus hat sich gezeigt, dass MFKR einen Beitrag zu den Zielen der nachhaltigen Entwicklung leisten. Auf der Grundlage dieser Erkenntnisse sollten Forscher und Praktiker in der Lage sein, die MFKR-Methode besser zu verstehen und dadurch die Anwendung und Verbreitung innovativer Managementinstrumente wie MFKR zu verbessern. Die kumulative Dissertationsschrift besteht aus zwei Teilen. Der erste Teil beleuchtet die Auswirkungen von erhöhten Mengen stromerzeugender erneuerbarer Energien auf den deutschen Strommarkt. In drei Papieren werden die Effekte von erneuerbaren Energien auf die Handelsbilanz, die Emissionsreduktionen und die Preisunsicherheit im Intraday-Markt in Deutschland mit Hilfe von Regressionsanalysen quantifiziert. Der zweite Teil adressiert die Kapazitätsberechnungen für internationalen Stromhandel im Rahmen von Flow-based Market Coupling. Diese Methodik löst sukzessive die bilateralen Handelskapazitäten ab und basiert ihre Kapazitätsbestimmung auf Netzberechnungen und einer Quantifizierung, wie sich Handel auf einzelne kritische Netzwerkelemente auswirkt. Dies ermöglicht im Durchschnitt höhere Handelskapazitäten, was zur Erreichung der deutschen und europäischen Ziele – hohe Versorgungssicherheit, bezahlbare Strompreise, bessere Integration von erneuerbaren Energien und schließlich die Dekarbonisierung der Stromsysteme – einen sehr wichtigen Beitrag leistet. In fünf Papieren werden einerseits statistische Ansätze für wichtige Prognoseparameter im Flow-based Market Coupling entwickelt, insbesondere Generation Shift Keys und die Prognose von konventionellem Kraftwerkseinsatz. Andererseits werden Optimierungsmodelle entwickelt, die den Prozess von Flow-based Market Coupling – Engpassprognose und Marktkopplung – komplett abbilden. Climate change is one of the pressing issues of our time. In order to limit global warming, the greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) need to be reduced drastically over the next decades in all sectors. A special role is played by the power sector, because it is the one responsible for most GHG emissions and because its costs for decarbonization are rather low. Consequently, national policies aim at reducing GHG emissions by supporting the expansion of renewable energy sources for electricity production (RES) and initiating a coal phase-out (CPO). European policymakers have implemented the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS), a mechanism for pricing GHG emissions in the power and industry sector across Europe that incentives carbon mitigation. This dissertation investigates how national and European policies affect the power market and especially its GHG emissions and examines how these policies interact. This dissertation shows that RES, in addition to the short-term, well-studied, merit order effect, which reduces power wholesale prices, also have long-term effects on electricity markets. The long-term effect describes the impact that RES have on investment decisions into conventional technologies, which are reduced by over 8 GW in Germany. This indicates that the power market adapts to the expansion of RES. With regard to the GHG mitigation of RES, it is shown that currently RES contribute substantially to the mitigation of GHG emissions. Because wind power substitutes coal power, it has a significantly higher potential to avoid GHG emissions than solar power in Germany. Provided wind stays favorable in the future, this portends from a climate perspective that politics should focus on the expansion of wind. It further justifies higher support schemes for wind than solar energy. The impact of the CPO on the GHG emissions depends strongly on legal implementation. If no further actions are taken, the demand for emission decreases, because existing emitters leave the market and the price drops to 0 EUR/t. The EU ETS loses its incentive effect and the emissions are realized elsewhere since the cap remains the same and is fully exploited. Therefore, alongside the CPO, emission certificates have to be deleted in order to maintain the incentive effect of the EU ETS. Furthermore, the loss in valuation of the German coal power plants depends strongly on the time of the CPO. Given high expected emission prices and the expansion of RES, coal-fired power plants cannot be operated economically advantageously in the long-term. Therefore, no devaluation is expected if power plants are phased out in 2038 or shortly before and hence, those power plants should not receive any compensation. Additionally, this dissertation shows that the EU ETS is a strong European policy that provides sufficient incentives to meet the European climate targets in 2030 and to realize the necessary expansion of RES. However, if national RES development paths are implemented, this leads to higher overall costs but also very different profitability of RES in each country This is because countries with high ambitions regarding the expansion of RES face self-marginalization effects, which reduces the revenues for RES due to the merit order effect, and increases the level of support needed for them to expand. In contrast, countries with low RES ambitions have little or no need of support schemes but benefit from low prices in the EU ETS due to strong RES expansion in countries with high ambitions. Summarizing, this dissertation demonstrated that both national and European policy contribute to the decarbonization of the European power sector. However, the different policies interact. This can have negative impacts, which indicates that a greater harmonization of policies is necessary. Further research should develop comprehensive policy approaches and discuss possible challenges.

Der Umstieg auf erneuerbare Energien und die damit notwendigerweise verbundenen Veränderungen der bestehenden ökonomischen, technischen und sozialen Systeme wird immer wieder als Generationenaufgabe beschrieben – einer Aufgabe, die langfristiges Handeln und Entscheiden verlangt. Allerdings sind weder das politische noch das wirtschaftliche System bisher auf ein derart komplex langfristiges Handeln ausgelegt. Während zu den handlungszwingenden Erfordernissen in der Politik schnelle, die Legitimation wie auch die Wiederwahlchancen steigernde Erfolge zählen, ist die Wirtschaft vor allem an Effizienz und Gewinn orientiert. Das führt dazu, dass die im Grundsatz technisch realisierbare Energiewende vor allem an kurz- bis mittelfristigen politischen wie wirtschaftlichen Erfolgskriterien ausgerichtet ist und langfristige Belange wie bspw. Fragen der Ökologie und der Nachhaltigkeit eine nur nachgeordnete Bedeutung besitzen. Die Arbeit geht deshalb der Frage nach, wie und in welcher Form Langfristigkeit in Bezug auf Politik und politisches Steuerungshandeln erzeugt, sichergestellt und/oder aufrechterhalten werden kann. Dabei wird eine institutionalistische Perspektive eingenommen. Die gesamt Untersuchung stützt sich auf einen fokussierten Paarvergleich differenzanalytischer Art von qualitativen Fallstudien zur energiepolitischen Steuerung in Deutschland und Großbritannien im Zeitraum von 1989 bis 2017.

The ancillary services are of immanent importance for secure and reliable network operation. As a result of the energy turnaround in Germany, conventional power plant capacities that have so far provided these ancillary services will significantly be reduced. Particularly with regard to frequency control and grid operation, it has already become apparent today that high costs can be expected if current practice and market conditions are maintained. The aim of this thesis is to investigate options for a cost-efficient transformation of the electricity system with a focus on the ancillary services frequency control and grid operation. In a first step, the ancillary services and their development in the recent past is addressed. In a second step, the effects of different cooperation between network operators on network operation are investigated. Here it is shown that in the medium term an intensified cooperation on transmission grid operator level has a positive impact on the operation of the grid. In the long term, it is necessary for distribution system operators to cooperate more closely in order to ensure cost-efficient and secure network operation. In a third step, options for the market design of balancing power markets are examined. The results show that it is necessary to make tendering times more flexible so that renewable energies can participate in the markets and, at the same time, more players can participate in these markets. With these adjustments it is possible to significantly reduce the cost of balancing power to levels below those of 2014. Finally, it is examined which market inefficiencies may occur in more flexible balancing markets due to strategic bidding behavior. Especially in the upward markets it can be seen that increasing market inefficiencies are to be expected, which, however, can be limited by increased international cooperation and the participation of renewable energies.

This thesis addresses research questions and implications in the context of the German and European energy transformation and is comprised of three parts: Part I starts with a chapter providing an introduction to the topic. Chapter 2 then focuses on the topic of "sector coupling" and the technical and economic challenges of coupling electricity, heat, and transportation, in order to further transform towards a system relying on renewables instead of fossil and fissil fuels as a primary source of energy. For Germany some practical quantitative scenarios for sector coupling until 2030 and 2050 are being discussed. Part II deals with economic dispatch modeling. In Chapter 3 a five-fold approach to open science is introduced and the advantages of open energy models are being discussed. A fully open-source bottom-up electricity sector model with high spatial resolution using the Julia programming environment is then developed describing source code and a data set for Germany. Following the open approach, the entire model code and used data set are publicly available and open-source solvers like ECOS and CLP are used. The model is then benchmarked regarding runtime of building and solving against a representation in GAMS as a commercial algebraic modeling language and against Gurobi, CPLEX, and Mosek as commercial solvers. Chapter 4 examines the ongoing discussion about potential effects of introducing bidding zones in Germany. An electricity sector model with network representation is applied to analyze the system implications and the distributional effects of two bidding zones in the German electricity system in 2012 and 2015. Results show a modest decrease in cross-zonal re-dispatch levels, particularly in 2015. However, overall network congestion and re-dispatch levels increase in 2015 and also remain on a high level in case of two bidding zones. Results are very sensitive to more than two bidding zones and additional line investments, illustrating the challenge to define stable price zones in a dynamic setting. Chapter 5 investigates the impact of uncertain photovoltaic generation on unit commitment decisions. This is done for a market following the rolling planning procedure employing a large-scale stochastic electricity market model (stELMOD). A novel approach to simulate a time-adaptive intra-day photovoltaic forecast, solely based on an exponential smoothing of deviations between realized and forecast values, is presented. Generation uncertainty is then incorporated by numerous multi-stage scenario trees that account for a decreasing forecast error over time. Results show that total system costs significantly increase when uncertainty of both wind and photovoltaic generation is included by a single forecast, with more frequent starting processes of flexible plants and rather inflexible power plants mainly deployed at part-load. Including the improvement of both wind and photovoltaic forecasts, the scheduling costs can be significantly reduced. Part III shifts the focus to issues of the decentral energy transformation. In Chapter 6 the interdependencies between transmission line infrastructure and the electricity mix are being assessed. In particular, it is tested how an energy system based on 100 % renewable sources operates under different transmission regimes, for example, copper plate or more constrained network topologies. A stylized model of optimal generation and storage investment and operation for the German electricity system is being developed. The few cases of transmission congestion in the results suggest that a high share of renewables can be accommodated by modest grid expansions and a large amount of short-term and long-term storage capacities. Chapter 7 deals with local electricity markets. Implications of recently proposed market designs under the current rules in the German market are tested using a simplistic equilibrium model representing heterogeneous market participants in an energy community with their respective objectives. We find that these proposed designs are financially unattractive to prosumers and consumers under the current regulatory framework and they even cause distributional effects within the community when local trade and self-consumption are exempt from taxes. Therefore, a novel market design is being introduced that allows for ownership and participation of renewable technologies for all community members. The analysis shows that this design has the potential to mitigate both distributional effects and the avoidance of system service charges, while simultaneously increasing end-user participation. The dissertation shows approaches and methodologies to overcome techno-economic challenges of the transformation towards renewable energy opening up even further research possibilities. Diese Arbeit befasst sich mit Forschungsfragen und Implikationen im Kontext der deutschen und europäischen Energiewende und besteht aus drei Teilen: Teil I beginnt mit einem einführenden Kapitel zur Anwendung mathematisch-quantitativer Methoden auf Strommärkte. Kapitel 2 konzentriert sich dann auf das Thema "Sektorenkopplung" und die technischen und wirtschaftlichen Herausforderungen der Kopplung von Strom, Wärme und Verkehr, um die Transformation zu einem System voranzutreiben, das auf erneuerbare Energien statt auf fossile und fissile Brennstoffe setzt. Für Deutschland werden einige quantitative Szenarien für die Sektorenkopplung bis 2030 und 2050 diskutiert. Teil II befasst sich mit der ökonomischen Dispatch-Modellierung. In Kapitel 3 wird ein fünfdimensionaler Ansatz zur offenen Wissenschaft vorgestellt und die Vorteile offener Energiemodelle diskutiert. Anschließend wird ein Bottom-up-Stromsektormodell mit hoher räumlicher Auflösung unter Verwendung der Programmiersprache Julia entwickelt. Dem offenen Ansatz folgend, sind der gesamte Modellcode und der verwendete Datensatz öffentlich verfügbar, und es werden Open-Source-Solver wie ECOS und CLP verwendet. Das Modell wird dann hinsichtlich der Erstellungs- und Lösungslaufzeit mit einer Darstellung in GAMS als kommerzielle algebraische Modellierungssprache und mit Gurobi, CPLEX und Mosek als kommerzielle Solver verglichen. Kapitel 4 untersucht die Diskussion über mögliche Auswirkungen der Einführung von Preiszonen in Deutschland. Ein Stromsektormodell mit Netzdarstellung wird angewandt, um die Systemauswirkungen und Verteilungseffekte von zwei Preiszonen im deutschen Stromsystem in den Jahren 2012 und 2015 zu analysieren. Die Ergebnisse zeigen einen kleinen Rückgang der zonenübergreifenden Redispatchmengen. Allerdings nehmen die Netzengpässe und Redispatchmengen insgesamt im Jahr 2015 zu und bleiben auch im Falle von zwei Preiszonen auf einem hohen Niveau. Die Ergebnisse reagieren sehr empfindlich auf mehr als zwei Preiszonen und zusätzliche Leitungsinvestitionen. Dies veranschaulicht die Herausforderung, stabile Preiszonen in einem dynamischen Umfeld zu definieren. Kapitel 5 untersucht die Auswirkungen einer unsicheren Photovoltaik-Erzeugung auf Unit-Commitment-Entscheidungen. Dies geschieht für einen Markt nach dem rollierenden Planungsverfahren unter Verwendung eines stochastischen Strommarktmodells (stELMOD). Ein neuartiger Ansatz zur Simulation einer zeitadaptiven untertägigen Photovoltaik-Prognose wird vorgestellt. Die Erzeugungsunsicherheit wird dann durch zahlreiche mehrstufige Szenariobäume berücksichtigt, die einen abnehmenden Prognosefehler im Laufe der Zeit simulieren. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die Systemkosten erheblich steigen, wenn die Unsicherheit sowohl der Wind- als auch der Photovoltaik-Erzeugung in einer einzigen Prognose berücksichtigt wird. Werden die Verbesserung beider Prognosen berücksichtigt können die Kosten erheblich gesenkt werden. Teil III verlagert den Schwerpunkt auf Fragen der dezentralen Energiewende. In Kapitel 6 werden die Interdependenzen zwischen der Übertragungsleitungsinfrastruktur und dem Strommix bewertet. Insbesondere wird getestet, wie ein Energiesystem, das zu 100 % auf erneuerbaren Energien basiert, unter verschiedenen Übertragungsregimen funktioniert. Es wird ein Modell der optimalen Investition und des optimalen Betriebs von Erzeugung und Speicherung für das deutsche Elektrizitätssystem entwickelt. Die wenigen Fälle von Übertragungsengpässen in den Ergebnissen deuten darauf hin, dass ein hoher Anteil erneuerbarer Energien durch geringe Netzausbauten und eine große Menge an kurz- und langfristigen Speicherkapazitäten bewältigt werden kann. Kapitel 7 befasst sich mit lokalen Strommärkten. Es werden die Implikationen vorgeschlagener Marktgestaltungen unter dem derzeitigen deutschen Marktdesign getestet. Die Analyse wird durch ein vereinfachtes Gleichgewichtsmodell durchgeführt. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die Designs für Prosumenten und Verbraucher unter dem gegenwärtigen Regulierungsrahmen finanziell unattraktiv sind und sogar Verteilungseffekte innerhalb der Gemeinschaft verursachen können. Daher wird ein neues Marktdesign eingeführt, das den Besitz und die Teilnahme an erneuerbaren Technologien für alle Gemeindemitglieder ermöglicht. Die Analyse zeigt, dass dieses Design das Potenzial hat, sowohl Verteilungseffekte als auch die Vermeidung von Systemdienstleistungsentgelten zu mildern und gleichzeitig die Beteiligung der Endnutzer zu erhöhen. Die Dissertation zeigt Ansätze und Methoden zur Bewältigung der techno-ökonomischen Herausforderungen der Transformation hin zu erneuerbaren Energien auf, die weitere Forschungsmöglichkeiten eröffnen.

Voltage stability is the ability of a power system to maintain acceptable voltages at all buses under normal and abnormal operating conditions. The scarcity of reactive power or reactive power imbalance is the main reason of voltage instabilities. The energy supply of Germany will be dominated by renewable energy sources (RES) within energy transition actions leading to a decrease in conventional power plants especially in the transmission grid. Since the conventional power plants are still main reactive power sources, key challenge in the future will be the provision of system services such as control of reactive power to maintain voltage stability in the transmission networks. A wide range of technology that is able to provide the required dynamic reactive power compensation is already available. However, in order to find the most effective implementation, it is necessary to investigate and compare these different technologies for a voltage stable grid operation. The main challenge regarding comparative studies that incorporate reactive power compensation devices is the development and the implementation of reliable comparison strategies. This thesis analyses the impact of reactive power on the voltage stability phenomena both in long-term and short-term time frames under various grid situations. Voltage stability margins in the long-term time frame are quantified by gradually increasing the reactive power injection into certain buses until the voltage collapses. Voltage stability in the short-term time frame is assessed by applying grid faults and simulating the time-domain grid response. A transient voltage severity ratio (TVSR) is developed in this thesis as the main comparison metric to evaluate and compare the performance of investigated compensation devices. Additionally, TVSR and other developed comparison metrics in this thesis are used to determine the optimal settings of the controller parameters of compensation devices. As a result, the submitted thesis shows a practical and reliable approach to analyze the performance of different compensation devices under different grid situations.

Die Dissertationsschrift untersucht die Interaktion zwischen Strom- und Wärmemarkt mit einem besonderen Fokus auf Wärmepumpen und Wärmenetzen. Vor dem Hintergrund des steigenden Ausbaus erneuerbarer Energien und der langfristigen Klimaziele stellt sich dabei die Frage der Wirkung, welche die Kopplung von Strom- und Wärmemarkt auf die Reduktion der CO2-Emissionen, die Energiesystemkosten und die Integration der erneuerbaren Energien hat. Zur Beantwortung der Forschungsfrage wird das lineare Optimierungsmodell Enertile um zwei Wärmemodule zur Berücksichtigung von Wärmepumpen und Wärmenetzen erweitert. Im Unterschied zu anderen Modellen wird in der Implementierung für diese Arbeit der Ausbau und der Einsatz der erneuerbaren Energien, der KWK und der weiteren fossilen Kraftwerkskapazitäten gleichzeitig optimiert, wodurch eine Analyse der Wechselwirkungen zwischen dem Ausbau erneuerbarer Energien und der Kopplung von Strom- und Wärmemarkt möglich ist. Die in dieser Arbeit vorgenommene modellgestützte Analyse zeigt die große Bedeutung der Interaktion zwischen Strom- und Wärmemarkt. Im Rahmen einer langfristigen Dekarbonisierung der Energieversorgung durch einen verstärkten Ausbau von erneuerbaren Energien ergeben sich sowohl Chancen als auch Herausforderungen für die Interaktion zwischen Strom- und Wärmemarkt. Die Modellierung der Wärmepumpen zeigt für den gesamten Zeitraum ab 2020 deutlich geringere spezifische CO2-Emissionen gegenüber der Wärmeerzeugung in modernen Gasbrennwertkesseln. Die Ergebnisse zeigen auch, dass bivalente Systeme – die kombinierte Nutzung verschiedener Wärmeerzeugungstechnologien wie beispielsweise KWK, Gasheizkessel und Elektroheizkessel – vor dem Hintergrund der Umstrukturierung des Stromsektors eine wichtige Rolle spielen. Hydrogen is considered to become a main energy vector in sustainable energy systems to store large amounts of intermittent wind and solar power. In this work, exergy efficiency and cost analyses are conducted to compare pathways of hydrogen generation (PEM, alkaline or solid oxide electrolysis), storage (compression, liquefaction or methanation), transportation (trailer or pipeline) and utilization (PEMFC, SOFC or combined cycle gas turbine). All processes are simulated with respect to their full and part-load efficiencies and resulting costs. Furthermore, load profiles are estimated to simulate a whole year of operation at varying loads. The results show power-to-power exergy efficiencies varying between about 17.5 and 43 %. The main losses occur at utilization and generation. Methanation features both lower efficiency and higher costs than compressed hydrogen pathways. While gas turbines show very high efficiency at full load, their efficiency drops significantly during load-following operation , while fuel cells (especially solid oxide) can maintain their efficiency and exceed the combined cycle gas turbine full-load efficiency. Overall specific costs between 245 €/MWh and 646 €/MWh are resulting from the simulation. Lower costs are commonly reached in chains with higher overall efficiencies. Installation costs are identified as predominant because of the low amount of full-load hours. To decrease the energy storage overall costs of the process chains, the options to use revenue generated by by-products such as oxygen and heat as well as changing the system application scenario are investigated. While the effect of the oxygen sale is negligible, the revenue generated by heat can significantly decrease overall costs. An increase of full-load by accounting for an electrolysis base-load to provide hydrogen for vehicles also shows a significant decreases in costs per stored energy down to 151 €/MWh at 2337 h/a full-load hours. The optimization of the exergy efficiency is performed by analysing physical and heat exergy recovery options such as expansion machines in the gas grid, the use of additional thermodynamic cycles (both Joule and Clausius-Rankine), as well as providing heat for steam electrolysis from compression inter-cooling, methanation or stored heat from a solid oxide fuel cell. The analysis shows that at full-load, process chains using solid oxide electrolysis, compressed hydrogen and a combined cycle gas turbine or a solid oxide fuel cells with a heat exergy recovery cycle can reach exergy efficiencies of 47 % and 45.5 %, respectively. A reversible solid oxide cell systems with metal-hydride heat and hydrogen storage can also reach 46.5 % exergy efficiency. The energy storage costs for these processes can be as low as 35 to 40 €/MWh at full-load. In dieser Arbeit werden Exergieeffizienz und Kostenanalysen durchgeführt, um verschiedene Pfade von Wasserstoffherstellung (PEM, alkalische oder Festoxidelektrolyse), -speicherung (Verdichtung, Verflüssigung oder Methanisierung), -transport (Trailer oder Pipeline) und -rückverstromung (PEM-, Festoxidbrennstoffzellen oder Gas- und Dampfkraftwerke (GuD)) zu vergleichen. Alle Prozessketten werden für Voll- und Teillast simuliert und ihrWirkungsgrad sowie die Kosten berechnet. Weiterhin werden Lastprofile abgeschätzt, um ein gesamtes Betriebsjahr unter schwankender Last zu simulieren. Die Ergebnisse zeigen exergetische Strom-zu-Strom-Wirkungsgrade von etwa 17.5 % bis 43 %. Die größten Verluste treten bei der Rückverstromung und bei der Herstellung von Wasserstoff auf. Methanisierung zeigt sowohl niedrigere Wirkungsgrade als auch höhere Kosten als Pfade mit reinem Wasserstoff. Während GuD-Kraftwerke sehr hohe Wirkungsgrade bei Volllast aufweisen, zeigen Brennstoffzellen im Lastfolgebetrieb über ein Gesamtjahr höhere Wirkungsgrade. Spezifische Gesamtkosten zwischen 245 e/MWh und 646 e/MWh werden durch die Simulation berechnet. Niedrigere Prozesskettengesamtkosten sind gemeinhin mit einem hohem Wirkungsgrad verbunden. Installationskosten sind auf Grund der niedrigen Volllaststundenzahl der hauptsächliche Treiber der Gesamtkosten. Um die Energiespeicherkosten der Prozessketten zu verringern, werden die Kostenreduktion durch den Verkauf von Nebenprodukten wie Sauerstoff und Wärme, sowie die Erweiterung der Anwendung untersucht. Während der Effekt des Erlöses durch den Verkauf von Sauerstoff gering ist, kann der von Wärme die Gesamtkosten signifikant verringern. Eine Erhöhung der Volllaststudenzahl durch das Einbeziehen einer Elektrolyse-Grundlast für die Bereitstellung von Wasserstoff für die mobile Anwendung zeigt auch eine deutliche Verringerung der Gesamtkosten auf bis zu 151 €/MWh bei 2337 h/a Volllaststunden. Die Optimierung des Wirkungsgrades wird durch die Analyse von physischer sowie Wärmeexergierückgewinnung durchgeführt. Dafür wird die Nutzung von Expansionsmaschinen im Gasnetz, der Einsatz von zusätzlichen Joule- und Clausius-Rankine-Prozessen, wie auch die Bereitstellung von Wärme für die Dampfelektrolyse aus der Methanisierung, der Kühlung zwischen Verdichtungsstufen und der Speicherung von Wärme analysiert. Die Berechnung zeigt, dass bei Volllast Prozessketten, die Wasserstoff mit Hilfe von Festoxidelektrolyse herstellen und diesen dann in einem GuD-Kraftwerk oder einer Festoxidbrennstoffzelle mit Clausius-Rankine- Prozess rückverstromen, exergetischeWirkungsgrade von 47 % bzw. 45.5 % erreicht werden können. Eine reversible Festoxidbrennstoffzelle, die Wärme und Wasserstoff in einem Metallhydrid speichert, kann exergetische Wirkungsgrade von 46.5 % erreichen. Die Energiespeicherkosten für diese Systeme können bei Volllast 35 bis 40 €/MWh betragen. DISSERTATION - Abstract in English Three Essays on Electricity Markets Author: PhDr. Petra Luňáčková Academic Year: 2017/2018 This thesis consists of three papers that share the main theme - energy. The articles introduce characteristics and behavior of electricity focusing on its unique properties. The dissertation aims at the Czech electricity market and analyzes also highly discussed solar power plants. The first article studies long term memory properties of electricity spot prices through the detrended fluctuation analysis, as electricity prices are dominated by cycles. We conclude that Czech electricity prices are strongly mean reverting yet non-stationary. The second part of the dissertation investigates possible asymmetry in the gas - oil prices adjustment. Oil prices determine the price of electricity during the times of peak demand, as the reaction of power plants fueled by oil is quick but marginal costs are high. We chose the gasoline - crude oil relationship known as "rockets and feathers" effect and offer two new tests to analyze such type of relationship as we believe that error correction model is not the most suitable tool. Durch den Ausbau an Wind- und PV-Anlagen in Deutschland wird der Flexibilitätsbedarf im Stromsystem steigen. Der Flexibilitätsbedarf kann zum einen durch verschiedene Technologien, z.B. Speicher oder Netze, und zum anderen durch die Stromnachfrage bereitgestellt werden. Eine gezielte Steuerung der Stromnachfrage wird als Demand Side Management (DSM) bezeichnet. Der zunehmend wetterabhängigen und fluktuierenden Stromerzeugung in Deutschland steht jedoch eine bis heute weitgehend unelastische Nachfrage gegenüber. In der Literatur sind verschiedene Arbeiten zu finden, die das Potential zur Lastabschaltung und verschiebung in Deutschland untersuchen. Hierbei liegt der Fokus auf absoluten Werten. Saisonale oder tageszeitliche Unterschiede bleiben dabei häufig unberücksichtigt. Die vorliegende Dissertation greift an dieser Stelle an und untersucht das Potential ausgewählter DSM-Anwendungen in stündlicher Auflösung. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass das verfügbare Potential starken saisonalen und tageszeitlichen Schwankungen unterliegt. Dementsprechend wird das DSM-Potential überschätzt, wenn nur absolute Werte betrachtet werden. Darüber hinaus zeigt die Autorin, welche Entwicklungen in den nächsten Jahren hinsichtlich der Verfügbarkeit des DSM-Potentials zu erwarten sind. Basierend auf der Potentialermittlung wird in der Dissertation die Rolle von DSM in einem EE-geprägten Stromsystem modellbasiert untersucht. Hierfür wird das lineare Optimierungsmodell ELTRAMOD, das den deutschen und europäischen Strommarkt abbildet, weiterentwickelt. Anhand verschiedener Szenarien wird zum einen der Beitrag von DSM zur Systemintegration von erneuerbaren Energien in Deutschland und zum anderen die Wechselwirkungen mit anderen Flexibilitätsoptionen (z.B. Speicher) untersucht. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die DSM-Kategorien Lastabschaltung und verschiebung nur kurzzeitig auftretende Schwankungen der Einspeisung aus erneuerbaren Energien ausgleichen können. Zum Ausgleich großer Überschussmengen aus erneuerbaren Energien sind hingegen Power-to-X-Technologien, z.B. Power-to-Heat, besser geeignet.

Electricity grids require the ancillary services frequency control, grid operation, re-establishment of supply and voltage stability for a proper operation. Historically, conventional power plants in the transmission grid were the main source providing these services. An increasing share of decentralized renewable energy in the electricity mix causes decreasing dispatch times for conventional power plants and may consequently lead to a partial replacement of these technologies. Decentralized energy sources are technically capable of providing ancillary services. This work focuses on the provision of reactive power for voltage stability from decentralized sources. The aim is to answer the question of how voltage stability and reactive power management can be achieved in a future electricity system with increasing shares of decentralized renewable energy sources in an economical and efficient way. A methodology that takes reactive power and voltage stability in an electricity system into account is developed. It allows for the evaluation of the economic benefits of different reactive power supply options. A non-linear and a linearized techno-economic grid model are formulated for this purpose. The analysis reveals an increasing importance of reactive power from the distribution grid in future development scenarios, in particular if delays in grid extension are taken into account. The bottom-up assessment indicates a savings potential of up to 40 mio. EUR per year if reactive power sources in the distribution grid provide reactive power in a controlled manner. Although these savings constitute only a small portion of the total cost of the electricity system, reactive power from decentralized energy sources contributes to the change towards a system based on renewable energy sources. A comparison of different reactive power remuneration mechanisms shows that a variety of approaches exist that could replace the inflexible mechanisms of obligatory provision and penalized consumption of reactive power that are mostly in place nowadays.

Die fortgeschrittene Phase der Energiewende ist, neben einer zunehmenden Notwendigkeit zur Systemintegration, vor allem geprägt durch das Zutage treten grundsätzlicher Richtungsentscheidungen – der Schwerpunkt verschiebt sich also vom ‚Ob‘ zum ‚Wie‘. Heutige Infrastrukturentscheidungen begründen dabei ganz unterschiedliche Energiezukünfte, welche wiederum über sozio-technische Pfadabhängigkeiten auf Dauer gestellt werden. Die Arbeit rückt zunächst die hierfür maßgeblichen Stellschrauben in den Vordergrund und beleuchtet deren wirtschaftliche und technische Grundlagen sowie die Bandbreite konkurrierender politischer Steuerungsoptionen. Auf dieser Datengrundlage wird im Rahmen einer Clusteranalyse die Aktualisierung des politikfeldspezifischen Akteurskoalitionsmodells vorgeschlagen. Im Mittelpunkt steht dabei die strukturbildende Unterscheidung zwischen einer eher zentralen und einer eher dezentralen Energiezukunft. Die so skizzierte ‚Landkarte der Energiewende‘ ist weiterhin eingebettet in eine Untersuchung des Energiediskurses auf Akteurs- und Medienebene sowie durch eine Politikfeldanalyse, in der aktuelle steuerungspolitische Problemstellungen und Handlungsmuster auf Basis technologischer Fallbeispiele beleuchtet werden. Die Arbeit ist ein Ergebnis der Forschung im interdisziplinären Boysen-TU Dresden Graduiertenkolleg „Nachhaltige Energiesysteme – Interdependenz von technischer Gestaltung und gesellschaftlicher Akzeptanz.“

Die Dissertationsschrift führt im Gegensatz zu bisherigen Ansätzen im Zusammenhang mit der Energiewende einen Perspektivwechsel hin zur gesellschaftlichen Berücksichtigung herbei. Bisherige Szenariostudien richteten ihren Fokus auf die technische Machbarkeit sowie einzelne Kosten- und Umweltaspekte, wie in der Voranalyse gezeigt wird. Die Gesellschaft spielt in diesem Fall eine sekundäre Rolle. Statt einer Berücksichtigung im vorab geschalteten Entscheidungsprozess werden so häufig erst im Anschluss Zeit und Aufwand in die nachgelagerte Überzeugung der Bevölkerung investiert. Der in der Arbeit verfolgte Ansatz setzt konsequent darauf, gesellschaftliche Präferenzen und Barrieren vorab in die Entscheidungsfindung einzubeziehen, damit Entscheidungen selbst nachhaltig Bestand haben. Dazu werden repräsentative Telefonbefragungen genutzt, mit denen einerseits die Präferenzen der Bevölkerung, andererseits die Grenzen der Akzeptanz in Form der Zahlungsbereitschaft ermittelt werden. Erst im Anschluss daran werden Szenariorechnungen durchgeführt, um energiepolitische Handlungsoptionen auch quantitativ bewerten zu können. Bei der anschließenden Gegenüberstellung von gesellschaftlichen Barrieren und Modellergebnissen werden jedoch auch die Grenzen dieses Ansatzes vor Augen geführt: So kann eine aus Bevölkerungsperspektive erwünschte Handlungsoption (hier der Braunkohleausstieg) auch an politischen und rechtlichen Schranken scheitern.

The group scheduling problem commonly arises in cellular manufacturing systems, where parts are grouped into part families. It is characterized by a sequencing task on two levels: on the one hand, a sequence of jobs within each part family has to be identified while, on the other hand, a family sequence has to be determined. In order to solve this NP-hard problem usually heuristic solution approaches are used. In this thesis different aspects of group scheduling are discussed and problem specific heuristics are developed to solve group scheduling problems efficiently. Thereby, particularly characteristic properties of flowshop group scheduling problems, such as the structure of a group schedule or missing operations, are identified and exploited. In a simulation study for job shop manufacturing cells several novel dispatching rules are analyzed. Furthermore, a comprehensive review of the existing group scheduling literature is presented, identifying fruitful directions for future research.

This thesis develops and applies methodological approaches for the analysis of intraday markets for electricity which are organised as continuous double auctions. The focus is to improve the understanding of how balancing forecast errors from weather-dependent renewable energy sources influences the outcomes of continuous intraday markets. This is important as it helps to assess how large amounts of renewable capacity can be utilised cost-efficiently and without stressing security of supply. In a first step, the thesis proposes a (non-mathematical) model of a continuous intraday market to show how the direction of the forecast error determines transactions between market participants, how these transactions relate to the formation of prices, and how the market integration of renewables can be improved. In a second step, the thesis provides a foundation for quantitative market analyses by modelling price-setting decisions for power generators and electricity demanders. This makes it possible to show that information on market participants' technical characteristics enables informed predictions of their market behaviour. In a third step, the thesis presents a computer simulation of a continuous intraday market. Implementing the simulation approach for the German power system allows calculation of the costs associated with the uncertain feed-in from renewables.

Europe requires significant transmission grid expansions to foster the integration of electricity markets, enhance security of supply and integrate renewable energies. However, next to lengthy authorization processes, transmission system operators (TSOs) in Europe are currently facing extreme public opposition in their transmission line projects leading to significant project delays. These delays imply significant additional costs for TSOs as well as society as a whole and put the transformation of the European energy system at risk. Existing scientific literature currently lacks comprehensive studies that have tried to identify generalizable success factors to overcome public opposition in transmission line projects. The goal of work at hand was to close this research gap. Potential success factors were collected through extensive literature review and interviews throughout Europe with respective stakeholders such as citizen action groups, NGOs or energy experts. Experiences from analogue large infrastructure projects like wind parks, carbon capture and storage facilities, hydro dams, nuclear waste repositories, etc. were also used to form hypotheses. The findings were transformed into a structural equation model and tested through a questionnaire answered by almost all European TSOs. Results revealed that people’s trust in the TSO is of utmost importance for less public opposition. It can be regarded as the critical success factor per se. TSOs can create trust through stakeholder participation, sufficient communication, proper organizational readiness and liaison with stakeholders. Furthermore, appropriate technical planning can help to reduce public opposition in transmission line projects. In total 18 concrete and actionable success factors were identified for TSO management to facilitate the establishment of these aforementioned aspects. They will help European TSOs to reduce public opposition and thus accelerate the implementation of new transmission lines. This dissertation focuses on selected aspects of network congestion arising in liberalized electricity markets and their management methods with a special weight placed on the integration of increased renewable generation in Europe and Germany. In a first step, the theoretical concepts of congestion management are introduced complemented by a review of current management regimes in selected countries. In the second step, the European approach of managing congestion on international as well as national transmission links is analyzed and the benefits of an integrated congestion management regime are quantified. It is concluded that benefits can be achieved by a closer cooperation of national transmission system operators (TSOs). Thirdly, the German congestion management regime is investigated and the impact of higher renewable generation up to 2020 on congestion management cost is determined. It is shown that a homogeneous and jointly development of generation and transmission infrastructure is a prerequisite for the application of congestion alleviation methods and once they diverge congestion management cost tend to increase substantially. Lastly, the impact of intermittent and uncertain wind generation on electricity markets is analyzed. A stochastic electricity market model is described, which replicates the daily subsequent clearing of reserve, dayahead, and intraday market typical for European countries, and numerical results are presented.
