Aortic dissection is gaining recognition in Western societies, and it is being diagnosed with increasing frequency. New diagnostic imaging modalities, longer life expectancy, as well as the increase in the number patients suffering from hypertension have all contributed to the growing awareness of aortic dissection. Nevertheless, as many as 30% of patients ultimately diagnosed with acute dissection are first thought to be suffering from something else. The increased availability and use of multidetector computed tomography has led to the incidental discovery of aortic dissection in very different settings. This article focuses on unusual presentations of painless aortic dissection. It is important for radiologists to remember that aortic dissections may present in different ways, not only as an acute, critical fatality but also with subtle, unusual signs and symptoms, which apparently do not seem to be strictly related to aortic diseases.

Presacral ganglioneuromas are so rare benign tumors that only 17 cases have been reported in the literature. They are abdominal masses growing slowly and differential diagnoses have to be considered. Surgical resection is important for definitive diagnosis because it represents the only therapeutic choice. Because of the benign nature of ganglioneuroma, adjuvant chemo- or radiotherapy is not indicated but regular follow-up is necessary for an early diagnosis of potential local recurrence. We report a case of a 64-year-old man with a presacral ganglioneuroma.

Magnetic resonance diffusion-weighted imaging (MR-DWI) is useful to assess proton motion by the computation of an apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC). This property could be used to assess renal damage, with special regard to unilateral dysfunction. The aim of this study was to estimate the correlation between ADC and the stage of chronic renal failure (CRF) using a spin-echo echo-planar imaging (SE-EPI) sequence with the sensitivity encoding (SENSE) technique.Fourteen patients (nine men and five women, mean age 49 years, range 22-66 years) underwent an MR examination on a 1.5-T system. Seven patients had a history of hypertension or CRF, one had Takayasu disease and one had nephrovascular hypertension. Five subjects without known kidney disease were used as controls. The glomerular filtration rate (GFR) assessed by Cockcroft-Gault's equation was used as a functional marker. The imaging protocol consisted of T1- and T2-weighted sequences followed by a SE-EPI acquisition with a diffusion gradient of 600 s/mm(2) and SENSE factor 2 and pixel-by-pixel ADC map reconstruction. In five patients, the SE-EPI-DWI sequence was repeated after i.v. administration of 1 mg of furosemide.ADC was of 2.44+/-0.24 x 10(-3) mm(2)/s in patients with normal GFR and of 2.05+/-0.33 x 10(-3) mm(2)/s (p0.05) in subjects with altered GFR; a significant difference was found between stage III and IV (p0.01), whereas no differences were found between stage I and II (p=0.27) and between stage II and III (p=0.39). A good correlation was found between GFR and ADC (r=0.79; p0.01), with no significant change after furosemide administration (p=0.7).DWI is a feasible MR technique for assessing renal damage. Further studies with scintigraphic correlation are needed to confirm these results and to establish reference values for this imaging technique.

This report describes a sporadic case of dysplasia epiphysealis hemimelica that developed in the proximal tibia of a 21-month-old girl. Three years after the surgical intervention the patient has made complete clinical recovery with a normal range of motion, a walk with no limping or pain, no leg length discrepancy or angular knee deformity. Even though the proximal tibia does not represent an infrequently involved site, we report the clinical, pathological and radiological features of our case both for the extreme rarity of dysplasia epiphysealis hemimelica and the very young age of the patient. The authors underline also the role of magnetic resonance imaging in the diagnosis, management and follow-up of this very rare condition.

A healthy 9 year old girl presented with severe posterior knee pain and a small segmental non-occlusive popliteal venous thrombosis. The case is relevant for its unique presentation and symptoms. Lack of recanalisation persisted at one year follow up.

We describe cost/benefit analysis for the implementation of a picture archiving and communication system in the Department of radiology of University of Siena, Italy. We also highlight technical and functional innovations provided by information of several department units: cost conversion, workflow optimisation and operator development. We analysed: operator costs, paper costs, film costs, chemical costs, costs of optical disks and location rent for hardware and software of RIS/PACS. The results show that advantages provided by PACS implementation derive from a workflow optimization and saving of human resources rather than from a reduction in films and chemicals. Moreover, better management of radiological unit provides improved handling of clinical information, resulting in reduced time to initiate clinical action, with reduction in average length of patient stay and improvements in overall health outcomes.

Lung nodule volumetry is used for nodule diagnosis, as well as for monitoring tumor response to therapy. Volume measurement precision and accuracy depend on a number of factors, including image-acquisition and reconstruction parameters, nodule characteristics, and the performance of algorithms for nodule segmentation and volume estimation. The purpose of this article is to provide a review of published studies relevant to the computed tomographic (CT) volumetric analysis of lung nodules. A number of underexamined areas of research regarding volumetric accuracy are identified, including the measurement of nonsolid nodules, the effects of pitch and section overlap, and the effect of respiratory motion. The need for public databases of phantom scans, as well as of clinical data, is discussed. The review points to the need for continued research to examine volumetric accuracy as a function of a multitude of interrelated variables involved in the assessment of lung nodules. Understanding and quantifying the sources of volumetric measurement error in the assessment of lung nodules with CT would be a first step toward the development of methods to minimize that error through system improvements and to correctly account for any remaining error.

e20002 Background: Effective anti-tumor responses are being observed in metastatic melanoma (MM) patients (pts) with the anti-CTLA-4 antibody Ipilimumab (Ipi) in clinical trials; however no data support the feasibility and clinical effectiveness of Ipi use in the daily practice. We report a single Institution experience utilizing Ipi within a compassionate program for MM pts. Methods: 27 stage III (2) or IV (25) pts (14 males, 13 females), median age 55 (23–77) years, ECOG performance status 0- 1, with MM (23 cutaneous, 3 uveal, 1 mucosal) progressing to 3 median (1–5) systemic therapies for metastatic disease received Ipi. Eight pts had evidence (6) or history (2) of brain metastases and 11 elevated (>1x upper limit of normal [ULN]) LDH. In the induction phase (IF) pts received Ipi (10 mg/kg i.v.) q3 weeks (wks) x 4 cycles; after a 12 wks rest treatment was repeated q12 wks in the maintenance phase (MF). Tumor assessment (TA) per modified World Health Organization criteria was performed at baseline, week (wk) 12 (±2) and wk 24, then every 12 wks. Adverse Events (AE) and immune related AE (irAE) were collected according to Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events version 3.0. Results: All pts received at least one Ipi dose, and 18/27 completed the IF. Of the remaining 9 pts, 4 are completing the IF and 5 were withdrawn for AE severity (3 pts) or disease progression (2 pts). Eight pts entered the MF. TA at wk 12 showed partial response (PR) in 1/18 or stable disease (SD) in 5/18 pts. TA at wk 24 showed PR and SD in 3/8 and 5/8 pts, respectively, with an ongoing clinical benefit (SD + PR + CR) of 34% (8/23 pts); these pts are still on treatment. Slow, steady declines in tumor volume and appearance of new lesions with subsequent shrinking of total tumor burden has been observed. One patient had Grade 3 AE (myocardial infarction) and 2 pts had Grade 3 irAE (diarrhoea). Excluding pts who are in IF, to date median overall survival is 27 wks (19–39). Conclusions: Ipi treatment is feasible, safe and clinically effective also in the common daily practice and in heavily pretreated, progressing, MM pts. A sizable proportion of these pts experiences durable clinical benefit. No significant financial relationships to disclose.

Hereditary xanthinuria, a defect of purine metabolism, results from a genetic deficiency of xanthine oxidoreductase (XOR type I; OMIM #278300), or both XOR and aldehyde oxidase deficiency (type II; OMIM #603592). The human gene encoding for XOR is located at chromosome position 2p22, while that encoding aldehyde oxidase is at 2q33.1 The cause of type I hereditary xanthinuria clearly seems to be a mutation or mutations in the XOR gene. In type II deficiency, mutations in the genes coding for both XOR and aldehyde oxidase are unlikely, because these genes are located far apart, albeit both on chromosome 2.1 The human molybdenum cofactor sulphurase ( HMCS ) gene, encoding an enzyme for sulphuration of the desulpho molybdenum cofactor of XOR and aldehyde oxidase, has been found mutated in two independent patients with classical xanthinuria type II.2 Both types of hereditary xanthinuria are clinically similar, but whereas patients with type I can metabolise allopurinol, those with type II cannot.1 Both types are characterised by plasma uric acid concentrations below 5 μmol/l and plasma xanthine concentrations over 10 μmol/l. Urinary excretion of uric acid is low or undetectable, and that of xanthine is elevated. Less than half the affected people have symptoms, which are caused by deposition of xanthine in the urinary tract. This results in haematuria or renal colic, and rarely, in acute renal failure or chronic complications related to urolithiasis. Muscle pains caused by xanthine deposition occur in a minority of cases.1 To the best of our knowledge, associations of hereditary xanthinuria with mental delay and autism have never been described. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2–induced direct cytopathic effects against type I and II pneumocytes mediate lung damage. Krebs von den Lungen‐6 (KL‐6) is mainly produced by damaged or regenerating alveolar type II pneumocytes. This preliminary study analyzed serum concentrations of KL‐6 in patients with coronavirus disease (COVID‐19) to verify its potential as a prognostic biomarker of severity. Twenty‐two patients (median age [interquartile range] 63 [59‐68] years, 16 males) with COVID‐19 were enrolled prospectively. Patients were divided into mild‐moderate and severe groups, according to respiratory impairment and clinical management. KL‐6 serum concentrations and lymphocyte subset were obtained. Peripheral natural killer (NK) cells/µL were significantly higher in nonsevere patients than in the severe group (P = .0449) and the best cut‐off value was 119 cells/µL. KL‐6 serum concentrations were significantly higher in severe patients than the nonsevere group (P = .0118). Receiver operating characteristic analysis distinguished severe and nonsevere patients according to KL‐6 serum levels and the best cut‐off value was 406.5 U/mL. NK cell analysis and assay of KL‐6 in serum can help identify severe COVID‐19 patients. Increased KL‐6 serum concentrations were observed in patients with severe pulmonary involvement, revealing a prognostic value and supporting the potential usefulness of KL‐6 measurement to evaluate COVID‐19 patients' prognosis.

We report a 30-year-old woman with hypertelorism, ptosis, and myopia associated with drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE, Lennox-Gastaut syndrome), mental delay, growth deficiency, ectodermal defects, and osteopenia. To the best of our knowledge, this patient has an unusual combination of symptoms not previously described, associated with severe central nervous system dysfunction. The ectodermal defects were present in a very intriguing form, were difficult to diagnose, and did not conform to any classification or previous description.

T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (T-cell ALL) is a rare haematological neoplasia, that affects children and less commonly adults. Female genital tract and particularly uterus involvement in acute ALL is rare. This report presents the CT features of a 64-year-old woman with uterine relapse of T-cell ALL, occurring 11 months after the diagnosis, as a second, unique relapse of disease. The patient was asymptomatic when a CT examination showed a homogenous thickness of the uterine wall in comparison with the previous CT examination. Histology from biopsy specimens, obtained through hysteroscopy, confirmed T-cell ALL localisation (TdT+, CD10+, CD3c+ and CD2+). The uterus could be a site of relapse in patients suffering from ALL. Even though an MRI examination could better demonstrate the disease in cases of suspected female genital tract involvement by ALL, the comparison of differences between a present and a previous CT examination is sufficient to suspect the diagnosis.

The 18q- syndrome [MIM #601808] is a terminal deletion of the long arm of chromosome 18. The most common deletion extends from region q21 to qter. We report here a nine-year-old boy possessing a simple 18q- deletion who had abnormalities of the brain, skull, face, tooth, hair, bone, and skin, plus joint laxity, tongue palsy, subtle sensoneural deafness, mental and speech delay, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), tic, and restless legs syndromes. His karyotype was 46, XY, del (18)(q21.31-qter). The size of the deletion was approximately 45 cM. Most of these abnormalities were not explained by the 18q- deletion. The family pedigree suggested the presence of a subtle involvement of ectodermal and/or mesodermal structures. Karyotypes of the other family members were normal.

Aim of this study is to evaluate the possibility of limb magnetic resonance lymphography (MRL) to differentiate lymphatic vessels from pathological veins, collect a specimen of the identified lymphatic vessel during operations of super microsurgical lymphatic-venular anastomosis (s-LVA) and perform immunohistochemical stainings to confirm the nature of the collected vessels.Twenty patients presenting lymphedema were enrolled in this study. Five patients reported lower limb lymphedema and 15 patients reported upper limb lymphedema. All patients had the indication for s-LVA and underwent preoperative MRL imaging of the affected limb. A total of 57 lymphatic vessels were identified by MRL and used to guide s-LVA: all these vessels have also been used to perform an intraoperative biopsy for immunohistochemical evaluation.A total of 53/57 vascular structures resulted compatible with lymphatic vessels at the immunohistochemical study performed with D2-40 antibody; 3/57 specimen showed the absence of the D2-40 antibody. A significant association was found between preoperative MRL and immunohistochemical marker D2-40 on collected specimen.Most of the articles in the international literature report the concomitant presence of both lymphatic and venous vessels at MRL. However, no one in literature describes the possibility to differentiate venous vessels from lymphatic vessels, and this is a crucial issue for the correct evaluation of the lymphatic system in patients with limb lymphedema undergoing a future surgical correction. In the present study, MRL allowed to identify active lymphatic vessels. MRL was predictive to determine preoperatory lymphatic vessels and to perform successful s-LVA in lymphedema patients. This is the first study to prove the nature of the vessels identified at the preoperative MRL with immunohistochemical stainings.

As mudanças do mundo do trabalho que se aceleraram nas últimas décadas têm promovido intensificação do ritmo, cobranças de metas e maior controle sobre o trabalho e os trabalhadores, fatores que agravam as condições de trabalho e consequentemente a saúde dos trabalhadores, em geral, e de modo particular a de trabalhadores de curtumes. O objetivo da pesquisa foi conhecer de que adoecem os trabalhadores da indústria curtumeira do município de Franca, São Paulo. A pesquisa foi embasada teórica e metodologicamente no materialismo histórico-dialético. Foram entrevistados 13 trabalhadores de curtumes do município de Franca, o advogado e a presidente do Sindicato dos Curtumeiros de Franca e Região, um docente do SENAI e um arquiteto atuante na área de urbanismo e ambientalismo na cidade de Franca (SP). O roteiro de entrevistas foi focado na trajetória profissional e nas condições de trabalho. Além das entrevistas também foram realizados registros fotográficos e consulta a documentos. Os dados obtidos revelaram aspectos da organização, das condições e relações de trabalho que implicaram em maior intensificação e precarização contribuindo para o aumento de doenças relacionadas ao trabalho. The changes in the world of work that have accelerated in recent decades have promoted an intensification of the pace, demand for goals and greater control over work and workers, factors that aggravate working conditions and consequently the health of workers in general, and in particular that of tannery workers. The objective of the research was to find out that workers in the tanning industry in the municipality of Franca, São Paulo, fall ill. The research was theoretically and methodologically based on dialectical historical materialism. 13 tannery workers from the municipality of Franca, the lawyer and the president of the Union of Tanneries of Franca and Region, a professor at SENAI and an architect working in the area of urbanism and environmentalism in the city of Franca (SP) were interviewed. The interview script was focused on the professional trajectory and working conditions. In addition to the interviews, photographic records and consultation of documents were also carried out. The data obtained revealed aspects of the organization, working conditions and relationships that implied greater intensification and precariousness, contributing to the increase in work-related diseases.

Orientador: Maria Lygia Quartim de Moraes Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas Resumo: A presente pesquisa analisa o modo como a flexibilização das relações de trabalho afeta a experiência de trabalhadores e trabalhadoras na esfera produtiva, bem como seus efeitos na vida cotidiana e familiar. Para isso, foca em duas atividades profissionais: a de operadora de teleatendimento e a de caixa de super/hipermercados. A escolha de ambos os segmentos se justifica pela forte presença de mulheres na força de trabalho e pelo fato de, neles, as empresas recorrerem a constantes ajustes na organização do trabalho, regulando-a de acordo com o fluxo de clientes e de produção. Essa prática adotada pelas empresas se insere em um amplo processo de flexibilização das relações de trabalho. No Brasil, mudanças na legislação trabalhista deram às empresas maior liberdade para demitir e contratar funcionários, alterar suas atividades, tornar o salário variável de acordo com o desempenho individual e prolongar, reduzir e modificar o tempo de trabalho. Com isso, os elementos centrais do trabalho tornam-se mais imprevisíveis e variáveis. Exigem-se dos trabalhadores e das trabalhadoras maior engajamento e disponibilidade à esfera produtiva, afetando o modo como estes vivenciam o trabalho e o sentido conferido a ele. No entanto, os efeitos dessas novas dinâmicas ultrapassam a esfera produtiva, incidindo também na vida cotidiana e familiar. Homens e mulheres não vivenciam esses efeitos da mesma maneira, sendo as mulheres particularmente afetadas pela flexibilidade. Fruto da divisão sexual do trabalho, elas estão fortemente presentes em postos de trabalho mal remunerados e menos qualificados, além de serem as principais responsáveis pelo trabalho doméstico e de cuidados nos lares. A necessidade de articular trabalho profissional e vida familiar é uma questão que segue circunscrita ao feminino. Nesta pesquisa, analisam-se as estratégias acionadas pelas mulheres para realizar essa articulação diante de um tempo de trabalho cada vez mais variável e de constantes mudanças promovidas pelas empresas em sua atividade, remuneração e jornada. A problemática da disponibilidade apareceu como elemento importante para compreender, no atual contexto, as relações entre trabalho, gênero e a articulação entre trabalho e família Abstract: The present research analyses the consequences of labour relations flexibility on workers¿ experience in the productive sphere as well as its effects on daily and family life. For this purpose, this study focuses two professional activities: that of the telemarketing operator and the super/hypermarket cashier. The choice of those professions is justified by the strong presence of women in their workforce and by the fact that companies in those sectors frequently resort to continuous adjustments in working organization, setting it according to the production and clients flows. This kind of practice is part of a wider process of increasing flexibility of labour relations. Changes in Brazilian labour laws gave companies more liberty to hire and fire employees, change their activities, adopt variable wage according to the workers¿ individual performance, and extend, reduce or modify their working time. Therefore, the central elements of work become more unpredictable and diverse. The result for workers is the requirement of more engagement and availability for the productive sphere, affecting how they experience work and the meaning they give to it. However, effects of these new dynamics transcend the productive sphere, also influencing daily and familiar life. Men and women do not experience those effects the same way, women being particularly affected by flexibility. As a result of the sexual division of labour, women are more likely to occupy underpaid jobs, that require less instruction, besides being mainly responsible for doing housework and care. The need for reconciling work and family life is still a women¿s issue. In this research, we analyze the strategies women adopt to achieve that reconciling, in the context of a varying working time and facing continuous adjustments in their activities, wages and timetables. The work done by women in different historical contexts and their modes of production and corresponding sociability is a fundamental theme for studies about the transformations that the world of work goes through. Not only from the women's and feminism movement, the categories of gender analysis and, in particular, the socio-sexual division of labor are fundamental for investigations to understand social relations without losing their historical character. The new configurations that the capitalist mode of production has undergone in the 20th and 21st centuries implied the deepening of the socio-sexual, racial and ethnic division of labor. The Brazilian peculiarity, with its passive revolution, constituted a dependent capitalist country and a counterrevolutionary bourgeoisie, with slave and conservative traits, which prioritized a minimal state culture to act in the eradication of inequalities and maximum to strengthen the tripod of articulation between State, national capitalism and international capitalism, in order to guarantee the general conditions of capitalist accumulation, through the overexploitation of work. The productive restructuring, as a response to the current structural crisis in capital, meant significant changes to work, now in a new morphology, and brought with it the expansion of the precariousness of labor relations and questions about society with a formal salary base, which was vertiginously deepened with the advent of neo-liberalism, with special repercussions for women Neo-developmentalism, a program of the Lula government within the framework of neo-liberalism, sought to articulate these two fronts, the dependent bourgeoisie and the class that lives off work, in the name of a governability that it intended promote accumulation for capital and distribution of income and labor for the lower classes. The objective of this research was to analyze the repercussions of neodevelopmentism for the socio-sexual division of labor and the (re) configuration of women's work in Brazil (2007-2010). To this end, we seek to theoretically reconstitute the dimension of women's work in the labor market, contextually and historically contextualizing the constitution of neo-developmentalism in Brazil and its main repercussions with regard to the world of work, with special attention to the impacts on the socio-sexual division of labor. The methodology used favored the use of the critical dialectical method, aiming to observe the object of our study in the present historical moment, however mediated by the relation universality x particularity, making use of the praxis categories, totality, historicity, mediation and contradiction. As an instrumental methodological resource, we opted for a bibliographic and documentary research. The research revealed that neodevelopmentism caused a significant increase in the number of formal jobs for the whole working class. At the same time, it ensured a set of policies for activating the labor market and professional qualification - which provided access to labor and social security protection policies - and the implementation of guidelines that historically had a close relationship with the quality of life and work of women, such as policies to combat violence against women and the expansion of the number of daycare centers. However, this government proved to be contradictory, since together with these measures a government policy was maintained that did not break with neoliberalism, which implied a cyclical reconfiguration of the policies, not acting on the structural causes of gender asymmetries. Trabalho é categoria basilar para o entendimento dos processos de produção e reprodução da vida social. O trabalho realizado pelas mulheres em diversos contextos históricos e seus modos de produção e sociabilidade correspondente é tema fundamental para os estudos acerca das transformações pelas quais passa o mundo do trabalho. Pauta não apenas do movimento de mulheres e feminismo, as categorias de análise gênero e, em especial, a divisão sociossexual do trabalho são fundamentais para que as investigações possam compreender as relações sociais sem perder o seu caráter histórico. As novas configurações pelas quais passam o modo de produção capitalista nos séculos XX e XXI implicaram o aprofundamento da divisão sociossexual, racial e étnica do trabalho. A particularidade brasileira, com sua revolução passiva, constituiu um país capitalista dependente e uma burguesia contrarrevolucionária, com traços escravocratas e conservadores, que priorizou uma cultura estatal mínima para atuar na erradicação das desigualdades e máxima para fortalecer o tripé de articulação entre Estado, capitalismo nacional e capitalismo internacional, com vistas a garantir as condições gerais de acumulação capitalista, através da superexploração da força de trabalho. A reestruturação produtiva, enquanto resposta à atual crise estrutural do capital, significou relevantes mudanças para o trabalho, agora em uma nova morfologia, e trouxe consigo a ampliação da precarização das relações de trabalho e questionamentos sobre a sociedade de base salarial formal, o que foi vertiginosamente aprofundado com o advento do neoliberalismo, com especial repercussões para as mulheres. O neodesenvolvimentismo, programática do governo Lula nos marcos do neoliberalismo, buscou articular estas duas frentes, a burguesia dependente e a classe que vive do trabalho, em nome de uma governabilidade que pretendeu promover a acumulação para o capital e distribuição de renda e trabalho para as classes subalternas. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi analisar os rebatimentos do neodesenvolvimentismo para a divisão sociossexual do trabalho e a (re)configuração do trabalho das mulheres no Brasil (2007-2010). Para isso, buscamos reconstituir teoricamente a dimensão do trabalho das mulheres no mercado de trabalho, contextualizando histórica e conjunturalmente a constituição do neodesenvolvimentismo no Brasil e suas principais repercussões no que concerne ao mundo do trabalho, com especial atenção para os impactos na divisão sociossexual do trabalho. A metodologia utilizada prezou pela utilização do método crítico dialético, visando observar o objeto de nosso estudo no momento histórico presente, mediada pela relação universalidade x particularidade, fazendo uso das categorias práxis, totalidade, historicidade, mediação e contradição. Como recurso metodológico instrumental, optamos por uma pesquisa de cunho bibliográfica e documental. A pesquisa revelou que os neodesenvolvimentismo ocasionou uma ampliação significativa no número de postos de trabalho formal para o conjunto da classe trabalhadora. Garantiu, em paralelo, um conjunto de políticas de ativação do mercado de trabalho e qualificação profissional - que oportunizou o acesso a políticas de proteção trabalhistas e previdenciárias-, e a implementação de pautas que historicamente guardaram relação estreita com a qualidade de vida e de trabalho das mulheres, como as políticas de combate à violência contra a mulher e a ampliação do número de creches. Contudo, este Governo se mostrou contraditório, uma vez que em conjunto com estas medidas foi mantida uma política de governo que não rompeu com o neoliberalismo, o que implicou em uma reconfiguração conjuntural das políticas, não atuando sobre as causas estruturantes das assimetrias de gênero

Esta pesquisa teve o objetivo de resgatar, através da memória do trabalhador, seu cotidiano de trabalho na Companhia Antarctica Paulista de Ribeirão Preto/SP. Nesse sentido, foi investigado como o trabalhador foi contratado pela cervejaria e as funções que exerceu; a organização do trabalho e a divisão de tarefas; a rotina do trabalhador e o relacionamento com outros funcionários e com os chefes; o papel do sindicato e as possíveis reivindicações; a importância do trabalho executado e o significado de trabalhar para esta cervejaria e, por fim, o que significou o fechamento da fábrica para aqueles trabalhadores que dedicaram sua vida ao trabalho nesta indústria. Para tanto, foi utilizada a metodologia da História Oral, a partir da realização de entrevistas com ex-funcionários da Companhia Antarctica Paulista, de Ribeirão Preto/SP, escolhidos aleatoriamente, por indicação sucessiva. Após realizadas as entrevistas, foram apresentadas fotografias da fábrica, de produtos e algumas mais atuais do interior de outras fábricas da Antarctica, já que a de Ribeirão Preto já havia encerrado suas atividades para auxiliar o resgate da memória dos entrevistados. Os dados obtidos, a partir da realização das entrevistas, foram analisadas de forma qualitativa, pela qual se buscou aproximações e divergências, tanto de opiniões quanto da realidade apresentada. This research aimed to rescue, through the memory of the workers, their daily lives working in Antarctica Paulista Company in Ribeirão Preto/SP. In this sense, it was investigated how the workers were hired by the brewery and their functions; the work organisation and the labour Division; the routine of the employees and the relationship among the staff and the chiefs; the role of the Union and the possible workers claims; the importance of the work performed by the workers and the meaning of work for this brewery and, finally, what the ending of the activities of the factory meant to the those workers who have dedicated their lives to the company. To achive this purpose, we used the methodology of Oral history, conducting interviews with former employees of Companhia Antarctica Paulista in Ribeirão Preto/SP, chosen at random, by successive indication. To assist the recovery of memory of the interviewed ones, after the interviews, photographs were presented from the factory, the products and some nowadays photographs from the inner part of other Antarctica factories since the Ribeirão Pretos plant had already closed its activities. The data obtained from carrying out the interviews, were analyzed qualitatively, by which sought both differences and approaches of opinions about the reality presented.

A partir de uma pesquisa de campo com trabalhadoras que vivem com seus companheiros e filhos na comunidade de Paraisópolis, foram analisadas as repercussões da divisão sexual do trabalho na vida cotidiana e na trajetória profissional dessas mulheres. Identificaram-se também as estratégias de resistência que elas desenvolveram para lidar com a dupla presença. Os depoimentos mostram que o dia a dia delas está tomado por essa dupla carga de trabalho, sobrando pouco espaço para outras temporalidades sociais. Observaram-se intensos conflitos entre homens e mulheres nos domicílios estudados, relacionados à distribuição das tarefas domésticas e de cuidados, uma novidade em relação às pesquisas de décadas anteriores. Nota-se um crescimento da tensão em torno dessas questões, gerando constantes discussões, o que pode sinalizar a existência de uma mudança em curso Abstract: This study investigates the effects on the time use of low-income urban women caused by the combination of paid work and domestic and care labor. A field research was conducted with female workers who live with their partners and children in the Paraisópolis community, in order to analyze the consequences of the sexual division of labor in their everyday life and professional career. It also identifies the resistance strategies they have developed to deal with the dual presence. The research reveals that their daily lives are covered by this double burden that leaves little room for other social temporalities. Intense conflicts between men and women were also verified in the households, related to the distribution of housework and care, a novelty compared to the researches from previous decades. O presente estudo teve como objetivo compreender e analisar o funcionamento do serviço de Reabilitação Profissional previdenciário, tendo como parâmetro a realidade local desse serviço prestado na Agência de Previdência Social Florianópolis/Continente (APS), durante o ano de 2012, atrelada à realidade nacional. Buscou-se apreendê-lo como resposta estatal aos agravos que acometem à saúde dos trabalhadores decorrentes do processo de trabalho, processo de produção e formas de organização do trabalho, assim como explicitar as contradições que o permeiam diante dos distintos interesses que justificam sua existência. Constatou-se que as mudanças ocorridas, desde a década de 1990, no referido serviço foram realizadas com a propagação de justificativas sob a égide da eficácia e eficiência e melhoria do serviço prestado, mas estas não solucionaram os principais problemas apontados por profissionais, trabalhadores, pesquisadores, sindicatos, movimentos sociais etc. para o seu funcionamento. Mas, pelo contrário, foram adotadas as medidas advindas com a contrarreforma do Estado em curso. Concluiu-se que esse serviço a nível local, enquanto subordinado à realidade nacional, segue a mesma programática a qual, na atualidade, tem se direcionado pela lógica economicista de contenção de custos, afastando-se do atendimento às reais necessidades de seus usuários

Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro Sócio-Econômico, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Serviço Social, Florianópolis, 2011 Este estudo teve como objeto demonstrar que, após a reestruturação produtiva na empresa Sadia S.A. unidade de Chapecó - SC, aumentaram as doenças dos trabalhadores desta agroindústria, especialmente as do grupo das LER/DORT (lesões por esforços repetitivos e doenças osteomusculares) e as doenças psíquicas. Partiu-se da constatação de que, após a década de 1990, a agroindústria implantou em seu parque fabril elementos do toyotismo, introduzindo de maneira acentuada a automação, na busca de maior produtividade. Estes elementos, coexistindo com a linha de produção fordista (trabalhos parcelares, repetitivos, monotomia, outros), aumentaram o sofrimento dos trabalhadores da categoria, tanto no físico, como no psíquico, sendo este sofrimento a causa dos adoecimentos. Se, por um lado, a estratégia da agroindústria para continuar no mercado, apesar da crise estrutural do capital, foi a de utilizar elementos do novo processo de organização do trabalho combinado com elementos do processo anterior na busca de maior produtividade (mais extração de mais-valia), esta deu muito certo economicamente, tanto que é uma das maiores empresas do ramo alimentício do país e da América Latina; por outro lado, esta maneira de trabalhar, ou seja, seu processo de trabalho dentro do processo de produção fez com que aparecessem novas doenças do trabalho e aumentassem velhas doenças na categoria. Estas, apesar de serem doenças sociais, são tratadas pela área médica e pelos operadores do direito de forma individualizada. Este trabalho constatou o aumento destas doenças sociais e comprovou que as mesmas estão diretamente relacionadas ao processo de produção e aos processos de trabalho. This study had as its objective to demonstrate that after the productive restructuring process in the Sadia S.A. Company's Chapecó unit, SC, health problems increased of workers in this agricultural industry, in the groups of RSI (repetitive strain injuries and musculoskeletal disorders) and mental illnesses. We started from the observation that after the 1990's this agribusiness implanted in its industrial park elements of Toyotism, greatly introducing automation in the search for greater productivity. And that these elements, coexisting with the Fordist production line (parceled, repetitive, monotonous, and other jobs etc.), increased the suffering of workers in the category, both on a physical and psychological level, with this being the cause of the health problems suffered. If on the one hand the strategy of this agribusiness to continue operating, despite their structural capital crisis, was to use elements of the new work organization process, combined with elements of the old work organization process in search of greater productivity (a higher extraction of surplus value), then this strategy worked very well, so much so that it is one of the largest companies in the food sector in the country, and of Latin America; on the other hand, this way of working, its work process, within the production process, causes new occupational health problems to appear and increases old health problems in the category, which despite being social health problems, are treated by medical personnel, and by legal professionals on an individual basis. It found higher levels of social problems, and the certainty that social problems are directly related to the production process and work processes.

Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro Sócio-Econômico, Programa de Pós-graduação em Serviço Social, Florianópolis, 2010 Este trabalho apresenta um estudo sobre as condições de trabalho dos catadores de materiais recicláveis, residentes no município de Itapema - SC. O foco central desta pesquisa foram os catadores que exercem a atividade de catação nas ruas do município. A análise do tema justifica-se, dentre outros, pelo elevado número de catadores de materiais recicláveis em todo o país e pela precariedade que esta profissão apresenta. Um dos objetivos deste trabalho é discutir esta categoria enquanto trabalhadores que encontram na catação meios para sobreviverem, uma vez que, são marginalizados. A pesquisa recorreu a entrevistas semi-estruturadas e a observação participante do processo de trabalho precário, bem como a fragilidade dos suportes sociais. O estudo problematiza a idéia das relações de trabalho estabelecidas pelo catador, e sua constituição enquanto trabalhadores inseridos no modo de produção capitalista, e sua importância enquanto categoria para o serviço social.

Programa de Pós-Graduação em Serviço Social Nessa dissertação elaboraram-se reflexões acerca das transformações no mundo do trabalho que a partir da sua precarização implicou em importantes inflexões à classe trabalhadora. Bem como se construiu reflexões sobre a desregulamentação do Estado, com o seu processo de contrarreforma, resultando na fragilização das políticas sociais. Nessa pesquisa analisam-se as condições de trabalho dos assistentes sociais no âmbito da política de assistência social, utilizando-se como base do estudo as referidas transformações no mundo do trabalho e a desregulamentação do Estado, com sua contrarreforma. Para realizar a análise desenvolveu-se uma pesquisa de campo qualitativa com assistentes sociais que trabalham na política de assistência social em onze municípios do oeste de Santa Catarina. Nesse sentido desenvolveu-se esta pesquisa com base nas categorias de análise: mudanças no cotidiano profissional; avanços, desafios e limites ao exercício profissional; participação do assistente social no planejamento da política; articulação do projeto ético-político-profissional; autonomia profissional; precarização do trabalho e as políticas sociais no atendimento das demandas dos usuários. Assim buscou-se construir uma reflexão e análise sobre o exercício profissional dos assistentes sociais e as atuais condições de trabalho dos profissionais diante das transformações do mercado, do Estado e da Sociedade Civil. No campo da política de assistência social ocorreram importantes mudanças, as quais precisam ser apreendidas pelos profissionais. Dessa forma propõe-se que os assistentes sociais devem repensar seu exercício profissional instituindo o fortalecimento da intervenção profissional a partir do trabalho direcionado a defesa dos direitos e a ampliação da cidadania.

Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro Sócio-Econômico, Programa de Pós-graduação em Serviço Social, Florianópolis, 2009 Apesar das inúmeras conquistas, especialmente em relação à situação vivenciada pelas mulheres, percebe-se que a desigualdade de gênero vem se intensificando tanto no espaço doméstico como no espaço do trabalho assalariado. O trabalho assalariado, que poderia contribuir com a emancipação da mulher, trouxe maior sobrecarga quando aliado ao trabalho doméstico. Nesse sentido, a presente dissertação procurou identificar se as mudanças ocorridas na sociedade a partir do século XIX também alteraram a divisão sexual do trabalho doméstico, perceber a cargo de quem está a responsabilidade pelos afazeres domésticos em nossa sociedade e, ainda, apreender como a realidade da esfera reprodutiva é vivenciada por mulheres pertencentes à burguesia e ao proletariado. Para o alcance destes objetivos foi desenvolvida uma pesquisa qualitativa por meio de entrevista semi-estruturada com vinte (20) mulheres - dez (10) pertencentes à burguesia e dez (10) pertencentes ao proletariado. A escolha por pessoas do sexo feminino deu-se pelo simples fato de que são, principalmente, elas que vivenciam, em nossa sociedade, esta desigualdade com maior intensidade do que as pessoas do sexo masculino. O recorte de classe teve como objetivo o de averiguar se as concepções e comportamentos destas mulheres, acerca da esfera reprodutiva, diferenciam-se ou não conforme a classe social que pertencem, indicando se este pertencimento também reforça uma visão desigual da realidade social. A concepção de classe social que nos orientou é da teoria marxista e, desta forma, nosso estudo procura contribuir com o debate sobre a desigualdade de gênero e sobre o trabalho doméstico na sociedade capitalista no sentido de refletir sobre as perspectivas que temos para o futuro.

SILVA, Juliana Lemos. Organização do trabalho e saúde dos trabalhadores: estudo com bancários do município de Uberaba-MG, 2009, 170 p. Dissertação de Mestrado apresentada ao Programa de Pós-graduação em Ciências Médicas da Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto, Universidade de São Paulo/FMRP/USP, Departamento de Medicina Social. O setor bancário brasileiro passou por intenso processo de transformação nas últimas décadas e ocupou posição de liderança na incorporação de novas tecnologias e inovações organizacionais. A reestruturação produtiva observada no setor objetivou ajustá-lo às novas formas de acumulação capitalista: a intensa informatização do trabalho bancário e outras mudanças estruturais do setor afetaram não apenas a natureza dos produtos, mas também o próprio comportamento dos mercados, o que resultou em mudanças significativas nas condições de trabalho e, consequentemente, na saúde dos trabalhadores. Este estudo teve por objetivo investigar as condições de trabalho dos bancários de uma instituição privada em Uberaba, MG, Brasil, na tentativa de identificar em que medida as mudanças na organização do trabalho interferiram em sua saúde. A coleta de dados se deu através de entrevistas gravadas com onze bancários pertencentes a diferentes níveis hierárquicos, de ambos os sexos, e os critérios de inclusão adotados foram: a. que o entrevistado tivesse vínculo empregatício com a instituição quando da realização da pesquisa e, b. que metade dos entrevistados tivesse, no mínimo, dez anos de carreira na instituição. Os contatos com os trabalhadores foram mediados pelo sindicato da categoria. A reconstituição do processo de trabalho, na perspectiva dos bancários, denuncia que além de adoecimentos de ordem física, como as doenças ocupacionais diretamente relacionadas à intensificação do ritmo de trabalho, ocorreram também o aumento da incidência do sofrimento mental e a perda da identidade e da valorização profissional, em decorrência das novas exigências da profissão. A maioria dos entrevistados, independente de seu tempo de contratação, afirmou que o trabalho bancário perdeu seu status. Predominaram nos depoimentos sentimentos de frustração e insegurança em relação à carreira. Os dados revelaram também preocupação com a pressão psicológica sofrida, principalmente no que se refere ao cumprimento de metas. Expressões como desgaste mental, estresse, depressão, pressão psicológica, medo, incerteza e insegurança estiveram presentes na maioria dos depoimentos. SILVA, Juliana Lemos. The Brazilian banking sector passed for intense process of transformation in the last few decades and occupied position of leadership in the incorporation of new technologies and organizations innovations. The observed productive reorganization in the sector objectified to adjust it the new forms to it of capitalist accumulation: the intense computerization of the banking work and other structural changes of the sector had not only affected the nature of the products but also the proper behavior of the markets, what it resulted in significant changes in the work conditions and, consequently, in the health of the workers. This study it had for objective to investigate the conditions of work of the bank clerks of a private institution in Uberaba, MG, Brazil, in the attempt to identify where measured the changes in the organization of the work they had intervened with its health. The collection of data if gave through recorded interviews with ten pertaining bank clerks the different hierarchic levels, of both the sexes, and the adopted criteria of inclusion had been: a. that the interviewed one had employment bond with the institution when of the accomplishment of the research and, b. that half of the interviewed ones had, in the minimum, ten years of career in the institution. The contacts with the workers had been mediated by the union of the category. The reconstitution of the work process, in the perspective of the bank clerks, denounces that beyond illnesses of physical order, as the occupational illnesses directly related to the intensification of the work rhythm, had also occurred the increase of the incidence of the mental suffering and the loss of the identity and the professional valuation, in result of the new requirements of the profession. The majority of the interviewed ones, independent of its time of act of contract, affirmed that the banking work lost its status. Feelings of frustration and unreliability in relation to the career had predominated in the depositions. The data had also disclosed concern with the suffered psychological pressure, mainly as for the fulfillment of goals. Expressions as mental consuming, stress, depression, psychological pressure, fear, uncertainty and unreliability had been gifts in the majority of the depositions.

O Instrumento utilizado foi a análise documental dos programas das disciplinas da matéria Administração e Planejamento dos cursos de Serviço Social de Santa Catarina. A pesquisa investigou como se desenvolve o ensino da matéria Administração e Planejamento no curso de Serviço Social, caracterizou as ementas e verificou que referências são utilizadas para o ensino da matéria. A análise dos programas verificou que não existe uma uniformidade no ensino da matéria nas instituições pesquisadas e que as disciplinas são trabalhadas com referências da Administração do Serviço Social e de outras áreas. Apresenta a Administração em uma perspectiva crítica. Tendo como mote a descontinuidade entre a teoria e a prática e o processo de formação profissional na área do Serviço Social, a pesquisa apresenta reflexões sobre a ação profissional e os desafios levantados para a profissão na contemporaneidade, e busca articular uma análise considerando o referencial teórico da Administração e do Serviço Social que considere o espaço de atuação de sujeitos, visando superar a idéia da mera reprodução das estruturas. Finaliza ressaltando os ganhos do projeto profissional do Serviço Social e a importância da reflexão constante sobre este projeto profissional, visando à construção de propostas de atuação profissional no âmbito das organizações.
