Facile evaluation of oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) kinetics for massive electrocatalysts is critical for sustainable fuel cells development and industrial H2O2 production. Despite great success in ORR studies by mainstream strategies, such as membrane electrode assembly, rotation electrode technique and advanced surface-sensitive spectroscopy, the time/spatial distribution of reactive oxygen species (ROS) intermediates in the diffusion layer is still unknown. By time-dependent electrochemiluminescence (Td-ECL), here we report an intermediate-oriented methodology for ORR kinetics analysis. Thanks to multiple ultra-sensitive stoichiometric reactions between ROS and the ECL emitter, except for electron transfer numbers and rate constants, the potential-dependent time/spatial distribution of ROS was successfully obtained for the first time. Such uncovered exclusive information would guide fuel cells and H2O2 production with maximized activity and durability, for instance, a larger overpotential would be beneficial to electrocatalysts of 2e reduction for H2O2 production, because of the high yield of H2O2 and low concentration of attackable O2•. This work would pave the exploration of not only the fundamentals of unambiguous ORR mechanism but also the durability of electrocatalysts for practical applications.

Horticulture productivity has been increasingly restricted by heat stress from growing global warming, making it far below the optimum production capacity. As a popular ornamental cultivar of tree peony, Paeonia suffruticosa ‘Yu Hong’ has also been suffering from heat stress not suitable for its optimal growth. To better understand the response mechanisms against heat stress of tree peony, investigations of phenotypic changes, physiological responses, and quantitative proteomics were conducted. Phenotypic and physiological changes indicated that 24 h of exposure to heat stress (40 °C) was the critical duration of heat stress in tree peony. The proteomic analyses revealed a total of 100 heat-responsive proteins (HRPs). According to bioinformatic analysis of HRPs, the heat tolerance of tree peony might be related to signal transduction, synthesis/degradation, heat kinetic proteins, antioxidants, photosynthesis, energy conversion, and metabolism. Our research will provide some new insights into the molecular mechanism under the response against the heat stress of tree peony, which will benefit the future breeding of heat-resistant ornamental plants.

Introduction: To explore the mechanism of action of appling Radix Ginseng and Semen Ziziphi Spinosae Drug pair (R-S) in the treatment of insomnia by investigating the effect of R-S on GLU/GABA-GLN metabolic cycle and intestinal microflora of rats with insomnia.Methods: Rats were intraperitoneally injected with 4-chloro-DL-phenylalanine (PCPA) to make sleep deprivation (SD) models. The rats were divided into 6 groups, with 8 rats in each group. The general status of the rats was observed and the pentobarbital sodium sleep synergy experiment was performed. The contents of GABA, GLU, GLN, GAD65, and GS in hippocampus of rats were determined by ELISA. The expressions of GABAARα1mRNA, mGluR5mRNA, NR1mRNA and GluR1mRNA in rats’ hippocampal tissue were determined by Realtime PCR. 16SrRNA gene sequencing was used to analyze the intestinal microflora of insomnia rats.Results: In PCPA-induced insomnia rats, the state of insomnia was relieved, the sleep rate was improved, the duration of sleep latency was shortened and the sleep duration was prolonged in each dose group of R-S (p < 0.05, p < 0.01) compared with the model group. The contents of GABA, GLN, GAD65 and GS were increased (p < 0.05, p < 0.01) while GLU content was decreased (p < 0.01) in both medium and high dose groups, especially in the high dose group. The expression of GABAARα1mRNA was increased (p < 0.01), and the expressions of mGluR5mRNA, NR1mRNA and GluR1mRNA were decreased (p < 0.01) in hippocampal tissue of rats in R-S groups, especially in the high dose group. At the same time, the various dose groups of R-S could improve the species diversity, microflora abundance of insomnia rats and regulate the KEGG metabolic pathway related to sleep.Discussion: R-S can improve the sleep of PCPA-induced insomnia rats by regulating GLU/GABA-GLN metabolic cycle and intestinal microflora, which provides experimental basis for appling R-S in the treatment of insomnia.

Influenced by educational policies and newly emerging educational philosophies, the proportion of public space is expanding in primary and secondary schools in China. Consequently, the atrium in school design is increasingly drawing attention due to the consideration of space efficiency and its accommodability for diverse activities. Although many studies have already explored the daylighting performance of atriums, the particularities of primary and secondary schools are rarely noticed, which leads to the lack of a reliable basis for a quick judgment in the early design stage. This study used the annual daylight metrics of Spatial Daylight Autonomy (sDA300,50%) and Annual Sunlight Exposure (ASE1000,250 h) as the indicators, built a parametric model in Grasshopper, conducted the simulation using the Ladybug–Honeybee plug-in, and separately performed the linear regression analysis on the three groups of data from the different types of atriums. The results show that in Nanjing’s climate, the north and east sides of atriums are the most suitable orientations for classrooms, and a corridor width of 3 m ensures high-quality daylight for the bottom floors. The optimal design equations for atrium width and length are provided for the three types of atriums, respectively, hopefully, to ensure that classrooms surrounding the atrium can reach the requirement of sDA300,50% ≥ 0.75, and the design recommendations are offered based on the results.

ObjectiveSerum inflammatory biomarkers play crucial roles in the development of acute ischemic stroke (AIS). In this study, we explored the association between inflammatory biomarkers including platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), and clinical outcomes in AIS patients who achieved successful recanalization.MethodsPatients with AIS who underwent endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) and achieved a modified thrombolysis in the cerebral infarction scale of 2b or 3 were screened from a prospective cohort at our institution between January 2013 and June 2021. Data on blood parameters and other baseline characteristics were collected. The functional outcome was an unfavorable outcome defined by a modified Rankin Scale of 3–6 at the 3-month follow up. Other clinical outcomes included symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) and 3-month mortality. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed to evaluate the effects of PLR, NLR, and MLR on clinical outcomes.ResultsA total of 796 patients were enrolled, of which 89 (11.2%) developed sICH, 465 (58.4%) had unfavorable outcomes at 3 months, and 168 (12.1%) died at the 3-month follow up. After adjusting for confounding variables, a higher NLR (OR, 1.076; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.037–1.117; p < 0.001) and PLR (OR, 1.001; 95%CI, 1.000–1.003; p = 0.045) were significantly associated with unfavorable outcomes, the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of NLR and PLR was 0.622 and 0.564, respectively. However, NLR, PLR, and MLR were not independently associated with sICH and 3-month mortality (all adjusted p > 0.05).ConclusionOverall, our results indicate that higher PLR and NLR were independently associated with unfavorable functional outcomes in AIS patients with successful recanalization after EVT; however, the underlying mechanisms are yet to be elucidated.

Deep learning has been widely used in the perception (e.g., 3D object detection) of intelligent vehicle driving. Due to the beneficial Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communication, the deep learning based features from other agents can be shared to the ego vehicle so as to improve the perception of the ego vehicle. It is named as Cooperative Perception in the V2V research, whose algorithms have been dramatically advanced recently. However, all the existing cooperative perception algorithms assume the ideal V2V communication without considering the possible lossy shared features because of the Lossy Communication (LC) which is common in the complex real-world driving scenarios. In this paper, we first study the side effect (e.g., detection performance drop) by the lossy communication in the V2V Cooperative Perception, and then we propose a novel intermediate LC-aware feature fusion method to relieve the side effect of lossy communication by a LC-aware Repair Network (LCRN) and enhance the interaction between the ego vehicle and other vehicles by a specially designed V2V Attention Module (V2VAM) including intra-vehicle attention of ego vehicle and uncertainty-aware inter-vehicle attention. IntroductionA contactless multiscale cardiac motion measurement method is proposed using impulse radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) radar at a center frequency of 7.29 GHz.MotivationElectrocardiograph (ECG), heart sound, and ultrasound are traditional state-of-the-art heartbeat signal measurement methods. These methods suffer from defects in contact and the existence of a blind information segment during the cardiogram measurement.MethodsExperiments and analyses were conducted using coarse-to-fine scale. Anteroposterior and along-the-arc measurements were taken from five healthy male subjects (aged 25–43) when lying down or prone. In every measurement, 10 seconds of breath-holding data were recorded with a radar 55 cm away from the body surface, while the ECG was monitored simultaneously as a reference.ResultsCardiac motion detection from the front was superior to that from the back in amplitude. In terms of radar detection angles, the best cardiac motion information was observed at a detection angle of 120°. Finally, in terms of cardiac motion cycles, all the ECG information, as well as short segments of cardiac motion details named blind ECGs segments, were detected.SignificanceA contactless and multiscale cardiac motion detection method is proposed with no blind detection of segments during the entire cardiac cycle. This paves the way for a potentially significant method of fast and accurate cardiac disease assessment and diagnosis that exhibits promising application prospects in contactless online cardiac monitoring and in-home healthcare.

Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is pivotal in the initiation and development of cancer cell metastasis. We observed that the abundance of glycosphingolipids (GSLs), especially ganglioside subtypes, decreased significantly during TGF-beta-induced EMT in NMuMG mouse mammary epithelial cells and A549 human lung adenocarcinoma cells. Transcriptional profiling showed that TGF-beta/SMAD response genes and EMT signatures were strongly enriched in NMuMG cells, along with depletion of UDP-glucose ceramide glucosyltransferase (UGCG), the enzyme that catalyzes the initial step in GSL biosynthesis. Consistent with this finding, genetic or pharmacological inhibition of UGCG promoted TGF-beta signaling and TGF-beta-induced EMT. UGCG inhibition promoted A549 cell migration, extravasation in the zebrafish xenograft model, and metastasis in mice. Mechanistically, GSLs inhibited TGF-beta signaling by promoting lipid raft localization of the TGF-beta type I receptor (T beta RI) and by increasing T beta RI ubiquitination and degradation. Importantly, we identified ST3GAL5-synthesized a-series gangliosides as the main GSL subtype involved in inhibition of TGF-beta signaling and TGF-beta-induced EMT in A549 cells. Notably, ST3GAL5 is weakly expressed in lung cancer tissues compared to adjacent nonmalignant tissues, and its expression correlates with good prognosis.

The aim of this study was to explore the associations between the aspartate aminotransferase-to-alanine aminotransferase ratio (AST/ALT) and coronary artery lesions (CALs) among patients with Kawasaki disease (KD). Medical records of KD patients presenting to a single center between January 2019 and December 2020 were retrospectively collected and analyzed. Univariate, multivariable-adjusted analyses, subgroup analyses, restricted cubic spline test, and fitted curves were used to evaluate the associations between AST/ALT and CALs. A total of 831 patients were enrolled, of which 201 (24.2%) had CALs on admission and 21 (2.5%) developed CALs de novo after intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG). Multivariable-adjusted analyses models revealed that a lower AST/ALT was associated with an increased risk of CALs on admission when AST/ALT was a continuous variable (P = 0.007) and when it was a categorical variable (P for trend = 0.004). Each unit increase in AST/ALT was associated with a 22% lower risk of CALs on admission (odds ratio = 0.78, 95% confidence interval 0.65–0.94). A negative linear relationship was noted between AST/ALT and the risk of CALs on admission in both observed and fitted models. However, such associations were not observed in AST/ALT and CALs de novo after IVIG. None of the variables significantly modified the association between AST/ALT and CALs on admission and CALs de novo after IVIG (P > 0.05). Our findings suggested that AST/ALT was a risk factor of CALs, but was not associated with progressive CALs.

Background Weaning from venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV-ECMO) has not been not well studied. VV-ECMO can be discontinued when patients tolerate noninjurious mechanical ventilation (MV) during a sweep gas-off trial (SGOT). However, predictors of safe liberation are unknown. Research Question Can safe liberation from VV-ECMO be predicted at the bedside? Study Design and Methods Two observational studies of adults weaned from VV-ECMO for severe ARDS at Toronto General Hospital were conducted. MV settings, respiratory mechanics, and clinical variables were analyzed to predict safe liberation from VV-ECMO, defined a priori as avoida7ce of ECMO recannulation, increased MV support, need for rescue therapy, or hemodynamic instability developed within 48 h following decannulation. Results During both studies, 83 patients were weaned from VV-ECMO, 21 (25%) of whom did not meet the criteria for safe liberation. In the retrospective study, higher tidal volume per predicted body weight (OR, 1.58; 95% CI, 1.05-2.40; P = .03) and heart rate (OR, 1.07; 95% CI, 1.022-1.15; P = .01) at the end of SGOT were significantly associated with increased odds of unsafe liberation when adjusted for age (OR, 1.02; 95% CI, 0.95-1.09; P = .63) and sequential organ failure assessment score (OR, 1.16; 95% CI, 0.86-1.56; P = .34). Change in ventilatory ratio had an imprecise association (OR, 2.7; 95% CI, 0.94-7.95; P = .06) with unsafe liberation when adjusted for age (OR, 1.03; 95% CI, 0.96-1.10; P = .42), sequential organ failure assessment score (OR, 1.11; 95% CI, 0.81-1.51; P = .52), and heart rate (OR, 1.07; 95% CI, 1.01-1.13; P = .02). In the prospective study, patients who had unsafe liberation from VV-ECMO also had significantly higher inspiratory efforts (esophageal pressure swings, 9 [7-13] vs 18 [7-25] cm H2O; P = .03) and worse outcomes (longer MV duration, ICU and hospital length of stay). Interpretation Patients with higher tidal volume, heart rate, ventilatory ratio, and esophageal pressures swings during SGOT were less likely to achieve safe liberation from VV-ECMO.

BACKGROUND Donor-recipient size-matching has been repeatedly reported to improve outcomes following lung transplantation (LTx). However, there is significant variability in practice and the optimal strategy for size-matching is yet to be defined. For recipients with ILD, size-matching decisions are complicated by concerns regarding the potential impact of pre-LTx pulmonary restriction. We evaluate whether a specific donor-to-recipient size-matching strategy, based on predicted total lung capacity, benefits this patient group. METHODS This retrospective, single-centre, cohort study describes the post-LTx outcomes of adults who underwent LTx for ILD between 1983 and 2020. Only patients with restrictive physiology, based on pre-LTx pulmonary function testing were included. Post-LTx outcomes were compared based on donor-recipient predicted TLC (D-R pTLC) ratio. Ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) has being increasingly used for the pretransplant assessment of extended-criteria donor lungs. Mathematical models to predict lung acceptance during EVLP have not been reported so far. Thus, we hypothesized that predictors of lung acceptance could be identified and used to develop a mathematical model describing the clinical decision-making process used in our institution. Donor lungs characteristics and EVLP physiologic parameters included in our EVLP registry were examined (derivation cohort). Multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed to identify predictors independently associated with lung acceptance. A mathematical model (EX vivo lung PerfusIon pREdiction [EXPIRE] model) for each hour of EVLP was developed and validated using a new cohort (validation cohort). Two hundred eighty donor lungs were assessed with EVLP. Of these, 186 (66%) were accepted for transplantation. ΔPO2 and static compliance/total lung capacity were identified as independent predictors of lung acceptance and their respective cut-off values were determined. The EXPIRE model showed a low discriminative power at the first hour of EVLP assessment (AUC: 0.69 [95% CI: 0.62-0.77]), which progressively improved up to the fourth hour (AUC: 0.87 [95% CI: 0.83-0.92]). In a validation cohort, the EXPIRE model demonstrated good discriminative power, peaking at the fourth hour (AUC: 0.85 [95% CI: 0.76-0.94]). The EXPIRE model may help to standardize lung assessment in centers using the Toronto EVLP technique and improve overall transplant rates.

Solid-state lasers have aroused many researchers’ interests for a variety of applications in military and industrial fields. Because of the preference for increased output power, Nd:YAG single crystals, which are the most widely used gain media, should be replaced by other more suitable candidates. Polycrystalline sesquioxide ceramics show great potential for use as gain media because their thermal and mechanical characteristics are suitable for use with high-energy laser systems. Recently, novel concepts of the gain media were also introduced. Herein, while briefly looking back on the progress of polycrystalline laser ceramics, we will discuss new interests in host materials and systems.

Summary As an analog of graphene, carbon nitrides have drawn increasing attention, ranging from artificial photosynthesis to synthetic organic chemistry. Notably, the most studied polymeric, C3N4, and other stoichiometric ones, such as C3N5, C4N3, and C3N, are commonly employed repetitive units of six-membered rings. Building blocks of five-membered rings (FMRs) are also fascinating and prevalent from a fundamental point of view, but FMR-based carbon nitrides are scarcely reported. Here, we propose a stable FMR-based C3N2 and the kinetic-oriented synthesis method via a pre-stabilization strategy using abundant-available zeolitic imidazolate framework as a precursor. The FMR topological structure and the associated dangling bonds were disclosed in C3N2, leading to an interesting p-π conjugation and splitting molecular orbitals, which remarkably narrowed the optical bandgap unusually down to 0.81 eV. The as-obtained C3N2 was further successfully applied to real-time, dynamic, and quantitative photoelectrochemical biosensing for practical non-transparent biosamples under near-infrared light irradiation.

In this paper, we establish a large deviation principle for two-dimensional primitive equations driven by multiplicative Levy noises. The proof is based on the weak convergence approach.

This study proposed an effective plastic deformation technique, rotating backward extrusion (RBE), for producing high performance AZ80 magnesium alloy cup-shaped pieces. The RBE process was carried on the Gleeble-3500 test machine at 653 K, and the conventional backward extrusion (CBE) was also conducted for comparison. A detailed microstructure analysis was performed using the optical microscopy (OM) and electron back-scatter diffraction (EBSD). The results shown that the equivalent strain and deformation uniformity of the cup pieces could be substantially increased by the RBE process compared with the CBE process. Furthermore, the RBE process could significantly improve the grain refining capacity and the proportion of dynamic recrystallization (DRX), of which the maximum reduction of grain size was 88.60%, and the maximum increase of DRX proportion was 55.30% in the cup bottom. The main deformation mechanism of the RBE process was the discontinuous DRX (DDRX), while the continuous DRX (CDRX) was also occurred in the cup transition. Compared with the CBE sample, the texture of the cup bottom was weakened for the RBE sample. The microhardness value of the RBE sample was higher than that of the CBE sample, which can be attributed to the grain refinement strengthening.

Automatic quantification of the left ventricle (LV) from cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) images plays an important role in making the diagnosis procedure efficient, reliable, and alleviating the laborious reading work for physicians. Considerable efforts have been devoted to LV quantification using different strategies that include segmentation-based (SG) methods and the recent direct regression (DR) methods. Although both SG and DR methods have obtained great success for the task, a systematic platform to benchmark them remains absent because of differences in label information during model learning. In this paper, we conducted an unbiased evaluation and comparison of cardiac LV quantification methods that were submitted to the Left Ventricle Quantification (LVQuan) challenge, which was held in conjunction with the Statistical Atlases and Computational Modeling of the Heart (STACOM) workshop at the MICCAI 2018. The challenge was targeted at the quantification of 1) areas of LV cavity and myocardium, 2) dimensions of the LV cavity, 3) regional wall thicknesses (RWT), and 4) the cardiac phase, from mid-ventricle short-axis CMR images. First, we constructed a public quantification dataset Cardiac-DIG with ground truth labels for both the myocardium mask and these quantification targets across the entire cardiac cycle. Then, the key techniques employed by each submission were described. Next, quantitative validation of these submissions were conducted with the constructed dataset. The evaluation results revealed that both SG and DR methods can offer good LV quantification performance, even though DR methods do not require densely labeled masks for supervision. Among the 12 submissions, the DR method LDAMT offered the best performance, with a mean estimation error of 301 mm $^2$ for the two areas, 2.15 mm for the cavity dimensions, 2.03 mm for RWTs, and a 9.5% error rate for the cardiac phase classification. Three of the SG methods also delivered comparable performances. Finally, we discussed the advantages and disadvantages of SG and DR methods, as well as the unsolved problems in automatic cardiac quantification for clinical practice applications.

BackgroundEndovascular treatment (EVT) is one of the effective treatment procedure for the symptomatic intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (sICAS).Aim and methodsWe evaluated the efficacy and safety of individualized endovascular treatment for sICAS patients. Clinical and imaging follow-ups were carried out to collect the data of 29 sICAS patients after 6 months of individualized endovascular treatment. Different treatment strategies are selected based on arterial access and lesion morphology of patients. If standard surgical path, narrow artery straight, stenosis length ≤10 mm, then the appropriate specifications of balloon-mounted stent (BMS) treatment. the surgical path is tortuous, the narrow artery is curved, the angle is apparent, the diameter of the near and far ends is significantly different, or the length of the stenosis is >10 mm, self-expanding stent (SES) with appropriate specifications is selected for treatment. If the narrowed artery is hyper flexed and the surgeon deems stenting inappropriate, balloon dilation angioplasty (BDA) treatment is chosen.Results and conclusion31 lesions of 29 sICAS patients received endovascular treatment. The median age was 61 years (IQR 54–69 years). The median preoperative stenosis was 90% (IQR 80–95%), and the mean stenosis length was (8.10 ± 3.27) mm. The most commonly used surgical procedure was Balloon-Mounted Stent (BMS) in 19 cases (65.52%), Self-expanding Stent (SES) in seven cases (24.14%), Balloon Dilation Angioplasty (BDA) in three cases (10.34%). (11.86 + 1.46 mm) was greater than that in the BMS group (6.14 + 1.59 mm) (P < 0.001). The median stenosis was 90% (IQR 80–92.5%) in the BMS group, lower than 99% (IQR 95–100%) in the SES group (P < 0.001). The median post-operative residual stenosis was 20% (IQR 15–25%), significantly improved compared with preoperative (P < 0.001). The success rate of the surgical technique was 93.10% (27/29). One patient (3.45%) had IS recurrence within 48 h after surgery, and the restenosis rate within 6 months after surgery was 6.90% (2/29). No patient died or had recurrent IS. Our data demonstrated that individualized endovascular treatment method could be potentially significant and safe for sICAS patients. This study will provide an important reference for the endovascular treatment of sICAD.

Background Depression is a psychiatric disorder with global public health concerns. Although a number of risk factors have been identified for depression, there is no clear relationship between biochemistry and depression. In this study, we assessed whether depressive disorders are significantly associated with biochemical indicators. Methods Our study included 17,561 adults (age ≥ 18 years) participating in the 2009-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). The relationship between depression and biochemical and obesity indicators was analyzed by logistic regression. Results As compared to the control group, men with depression showed significantly higher levels of gamma-glutamyl transferase, glucose, and triglycerides, and lower levels of albumin and total bilirubin. The depressed group had higher levels of alkaline phosphatase, bicarbonate, and sodium than the control group. Conclusion Several biochemical and anthropometric indices were associated with depression in this study. It would be interesting to further analyze their cause-effect relationship. Limitations This study is a cross-sectional study. The population is less restricted and does not exclude people with diabetes, pregnancy, etc., so it is less significant for a specific population. Dietary information was not included, as diet plays an important role in many indicators.

Geostopping is a critical operation due to wellbore-stability, well-control and HSE issues, requiring accuracy of a few meters. Reservoir boundary detection has previously been done with seismic applications and at-bit resistivity or near-bit gamma. However, seismic uncertainty can be up to 20m TVD and at-bit resistivity, and near-bit gamma requires penetrating the target. Early, accurate boundary detection, in vertical or near-vertical wells, requires technology that allows anticipation of boundaries ahead of the bit, enabling geostopping at a safe distance. A recently developed LWD ultra-deep electromagnetic (EM) tool was successfully deployed to geostop a wellbore at a target position. The system successfully predicted the top of the target formation 15m TVD ahead of the transmitter in real time, which was confirmed by gamma ray measurements. A subsequent run that drilled through the formation top confirmed the predicted top and formation resistivity. This is a game-changing technology for well construction, allowing for proactive and efficient wellbore placement. The look-ahead, ultra-deep, EM LWD tool incorporates a deep-transmitting antenna 2.8m from the bit. To achieve a real-time look-ahead capability in near-vertical wells, anisotropic resistivity measurements are incorporated into the transmitting antenna collar, providing resistivity, anisotropy, and dip around and above the transmitter antenna while drilling. The reconstructed formation profile from the anisotropy measurement is combined with the deep measurement, enabling formation determination ahead of the bit. In a favourable condition, the integrated system can detect a formation boundary 30m or more ahead of the bit. The EM tool was tested in challenging well conditions. The distance from the existing casing to the reservoir top was short and the tool was in a conductive formation (less than 0.6 Ω·m). This provided a very small depth interval in which to accumulate the necessary real-time EM measurements, and a relatively short depth of detection (DOD). Despite the suboptimal conditions, the system was able to resolve the target formation top 15m TVD ahead of the EM transmitter while drilling. This was confirmed by gamma measurements after penetrating the formation, which was used as the primary technique to geostop the wellbore. The new EM look-ahead system now offers a more proactive solution to assist operators not only to geostop a wellbore at the planned position, but also to optimize the drilling parameters prior to any unexpected geological variations. This look-ahead EM technique provides more economic and efficient drilling solutions to optimize wellbore placement compared to existing techniques. This new service makes it possible to proactively identify potential risks in vertical or low-inclination wellbores, helping to avoid drilling hazards and optimize casing shoe placement and coring operations.

To compare the difference in anterior segment biometrics derived from anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) between treatment-naïve acromegaly patients and normal controls and evaluate the correlations between above biometrics and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) and growth hormone (GH) levels.Sixty eyes of 30 acromegaly patients and 60 eyes of 30 normal controls were included in this case-control study. Central corneal thickness, pupil diameter, iris thickness (IT), iris curvature (IC), anterior chamber depth (ACD), anterior chamber width, lens vault (LV), angle open distance (AOD) 500, AOD750, and trabecular iris space area (TISA) 500 and TISA750 were measured by AS-OCT. General linear regression models were constructed to evaluate the independent endocrine factors affecting iris morphology and anterior chamber angle (ACA) width.The acromegaly patients had an evenly thicker iris (Plt; 0.001), a smaller IC (Plt; 0.05), a smaller LV (P = 0.040) and significantly larger AOD500, AOD750, TISA500 and TISA750 (Plt; 0.001). There was a positive correlation between the serum GH level and ACD in the acromegaly patients (P = 0.031). Linear regression models showed the lower LV and smaller IC were independent influencing factors of the increase in the AOD500, AOD750, and TISA750 and nasal TISA500. Serum IGF-1 was an independent factor for the increase in pupil diameter (β = 0.002, P = 0.031) and both the average nasal (β = 6.781*10-5, P = 0.049) and temporal (β = 7.736*10-5, P = 0.045) IT values and for the decrease in temporal IC (βlt; 0.001, P = 0.037). GH was an independent factor for the increase in temporal AOD750 (β = 0.001, P = 0.030) and temporal TISA750 (β = 0.002, P = 0.016).Patients with acromegaly have a thicker IT, smaller IC, and lower LV with a wider ACA than normal controls. Serum GH is independently correlated with the temporal ACA width, whereas serum IGF-1 is independently correlated with IT, pupil diameter, and IC.

Polymeric carbon nitride (p-CN) has attracted increasing interest as a metal-free photocatalyst in energy conversion and bacterial disinfection. However, due to its particulate and insoluble nature, compounding p-CN at the molecular level into a functional composite of high performance remains a grand challenge. Here, we report the dissolution of p-CN in polyphosphoric acid (PPA) and the homogeneous compounding with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) into a free-standing film simply by co-dissolution, precipitation, and filtration. Interestingly, the as-prepared p-CN-CNTs film exhibited superior film strength than the pristine CNTs and nearly complete inactivation of E. coli and S. aureus under simulated solar irradiation with superoxide radicals as the dominant intermediates. Mechanistic studies indicated that the acidity and viscosity of PPA play crucial roles in the dissolution. The universality of this finding was supported by the further successful discovery of a new type of solvent for p-CN using task-specific ionic liquids. This work would provide a general way to address the dissolution difficulties of p-CN, and pave the prospective application of p-CN in nanocomposites at the molecular level.

Identifying a well's stratigraphic position from azimuthal electromagnetic (EM) data requires integrating data from multiple depths of investigation. As a well's position within the stratigraphy can be constantly changing, and formations and fluids show considerable lateral variability, this process is difficult to do manually. To simplify this, inversion algorithms are deployed to represent EM logging while drilling (LWD) measurements as models reflecting the geology. Inversion results are not a direct measurement, therefore confidence in the results is critical. Real-time well placement decisions are routinely made on the output of EM inversions. It is critical to understand that these are models, not direct measurements, therefore verification of the results is essential. This paper discusses the workflows and tools available to interrogate the models generated to give high confidence in the results with a focus on a new deep EM tool deployed in a complex geological environment. The deployment of established EM tools in the same bottom hole assembly (BHA) provides independent verification of the results alongside statistical analysis of the inversion. In many complex depositional environments, the resultant geology is not layer cake. Formations can pinch out or show considerable lateral variability. In these environments it is extremely challenging and sometimes impossible to track a single layer or boundary. We examine a case study from Alaska in a complex shallow marine depositional environment. The target sands were expected to show considerable lateral variability with pinch outs and multiple shale lenses and layers. Deployment of a new, deep azimuthal EM tool with an associated inversion algorithm provided a geological model representing the distribution of the target formations. The stratigraphy was comprised of a complex distribution of sands and shales, many penetrated by the wellbore, with others distributed away from the wellbore based on the depth of investigation of the EM measurements. If this model is the primary tool for mapping the formations and steering to penetrate the most productive zones, it is critical to understand the results and have high confidence in them. The second tool in the BHA, the established azimuthal resistivity tool, provided an opportunity to directly compare the azimuthal data with the inversion result from the new tool to critique the inversion results and help to understand this complex geological environment. The complexity of integrating the data from multiple azimuthal images with different depths of investigation, based on multiple transmitter-receiver spacings and transmission frequencies, demonstrates the need for inversion algorithms to convert the EM field data to a simple-to-understand representation of the geology. This case study provides proof of the quality of the model, especially in such a complex geological environment, allowing high confidence in the deployment of this new tool for well path optimization.

We present a comparison of atmospheric transport model simulations for carbonyl sulfide (COS), within the framework of the ongoing atmospheric tracer transport model intercomparison project “TransCom”. Seven atmospheric transport models participated in the inter-comparison experiment and provided simulations of COS mixing ratios in the troposphere over a 9-year period (2010–2018), using prescribed state-of-the-art surface fluxes for various components of the atmospheric COS budget: biospheric sink, oceanic source, sources from fire and industry. Since the biosphere is the largest sink of COS, we tested sink estimates produced by two different biosphere models. The main goals of TransCom-COS are (a) to investigate the impact of the transport uncertainty and emission distribution in simulating the spatio-temporal variability of COS mixing ratios in the troposphere, and (b) to assess the sensitivity of simulated tropospheric COS mixing ratios to the seasonal and diurnal variability of the COS biosphere fluxes. To this end, a control case with state-of-the-art seasonal fluxes of COS was constructed. Models were run with the same fluxes and without chemistry to isolate transport differences. Further, two COS flux scenarios were compared: one using a biosphere flux with a monthly time resolution and the other using a biosphere flux with a three-hourly time resolution. In addition, we investigated the sensitivity of the simulated concentrations to different biosphere fluxes and to indirect oceanic emissions through dimethylsulfide (DMS) and carbon disulfide (CS2). The modelled COS mixing ratios were assessed against in-situ observations from surface stations and aircraft.

ObjectiveThis study aimed to develop and validate a nomogram to predict malignant cerebral artery infarction (MMI) after endovascular treatment (EVT) in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) in the modern thrombectomy era.MethodsWe retrospectively analyzed data from a prospective cohort of consecutive patients with AIS who underwent EVT at Xuanwu hospital between January 2013 and June 2021. A multivariable logistic regression model was employed to construct the nomogram for predicting MMI after EVT. The discrimination and calibration of the nomogram were assessed both in the derivation and validation cohorts.ResultsA total of 605 patients were enrolled in this study, with 425 in the derivation cohort and 180 in the validation cohort. The nomogram was developed based on admission systolic blood pressure (SBP), the National Institute of Health Stroke Score (NIHSS), the Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomography Score (ASPECTS), vessel occlusion site, EVT time window, and recanalization status. The nomogram displayed good discrimination with the area under the receiver operating characteristics (ROCs) curve (AUC) of 0.783 [95% confidence interval (CI), 0.726–0.840] in the derivation cohort and 0.806 (95% CI, 0.738–0.874) in the validation cohort. The calibration of the nomogram was good as well, with the Hosmer–Lemeshow test of p = 0.857 in the derivation cohort and p = 0.275 in the validation cohort.ConclusionIn the modern thrombectomy era, a nomogram containing admission SBP, NIHSS, ASPECTS, vessel occlusion site, EVT time window, and recanalization status may predict the risk of MMI after EVT in patients with AIS.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the anti-fatigue effect of natural Lycium barbarum polysaccharide (LBP) during exercise, develop a functional anti-fatigue effervescent tablet by applying LBP to practical products, and help patients who have difficulty swallowing conventional tablets or capsules. LBP was extracted with water, and DEAE-52 cellulose was used for purification. The chemical structure and monosaccharide composition of LBP by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FI-IR) and ion chromatography (IC). Lycium barbarum polysaccharide effervescent tablets (LBPT) were prepared by mixing LBP and an excipient. Animal experiments showed that LBP and LBPT significantly increased the exhaustive swimming time in rats. LBP and LBPT improved biochemical markers in rat serum, such as lactic acid and creatine kinase, enhanced the antioxidant capacity of rat muscle, and reversed the decrease in serum glucose, ATP and glycogen content caused by exercise. Transmission electron microscopy showed that LBP and LBPT increased the density of mitochondria in rat liver. In addition, molecular experiments showed that LBP and LBPT could improve oxidative stress caused by exercise by regulating the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway and regulating energy metabolism via the AMPK/PGC-1α signaling pathway.

Lagerstroemia indica has great economic value due to its ecological, medicinal, and ornamental properties. Because its bloom color is one of the most essential characteristics, research into its color development is a hot topic. In this study, five representative colored cultivars were chosen, each representing a different color, such as white, red, pink, violet, and purple. Fully bloomed flowers were used to detect flavonoids in the petals. Anthocyanin is the main factor for the color formation of L. indica. 14 anthocyanins were discovered among the 299 flavonoids. Among 14 anthocyanins, malvidin-3,5-di-O-glucoside varied greatly among four colored samples and is the main contributor to color diversity. Transcriptome sequencing revealed that compared to white flowers, Anthocyanin pathway genes appear to be more active in colored samples. Analyzing the correlation network between metabolites and differential expressed genes, 53 key structural genes, and 24 TFs were detected that may play an essential role in the formation of color in L. indica flowers. Among these, the differential expression of F3′5′H and F3′H between all samples are contributors to color diversity. These findings lay the foundation for discovering the molecular mechanism of L. indica flower color diversity.
