Obesity is a complex health condition characterized by excessive adipose tissue accumulation, leading to significant metabolic disturbances such as insulin resistance and cardiovascular diseases. Fatty acid synthase (FAS), a key enzyme in lipogenesis, has been identified as a potential therapeutic target for obesity due to its role in adipocyte differentiation and lipid accumulation. This study employed a multidisciplinary approach involving in silico and in vitro analyses to investigate the anti-adipogenic properties of maclurin, a natural phenolic compound derived from Morus alba. Using SwissDock software (ChEMBL version 23), we predicted protein interactions and demonstrated a high probability (95.6%) of maclurin targeting FAS, surpassing the interaction rates of established inhibitors like cerulenin. Docking simulations revealed maclurin's superior binding affinity to FAS, with a binding score of −7.3 kcal/mol compared to −6.7 kcal/mol for cerulenin. Subsequent in vitro assays confirmed these findings, with maclurin effectively inhibiting FAS activity in a concentration-dependent manner in 3T3-L1 adipocytes, without compromising cell viability. Furthermore, maclurin treatment resulted in significant reductions in lipid accumulation and the downregulated expression of critical adipogenic genes such as PPARγ, C/EBPα, and FAS, indicating the suppression of adipocyte differentiation. Maclurin shows potential as a novel FAS inhibitor with significant anti-adipogenic effects, offering a promising therapeutic avenue for the treatment and prevention of obesity. Purpose: This study examined the effects of the healing movie programs for cancer survivors on post-traumatic stress syndrome, resilience, and cognitive emotional control strategies, a quasi-experimental design. Methods: Participants included 39 cancer survivors registered in four healthcare centers in Gyeongsangnam-do. The intervention and control group included 19 and 20 participants, respectively. The healing program using movies developed in this study was provided to the intervention group in 10 sessions, occurring twice each week for 5 weeks and lasting 80 minutes per session. The data were collected using structured questionnaires and they were analyzed to examine differences in the test scores before and after the intervention. Results: In the intervention group, the post-traumatic stress syndrome (F = 14.97, p < . 001) decreased significantly and the resilience (F = 19.55, p < .001) and adaptive cognitive emotion regulation (F = 5.11, p = .029) increased significantly. The difference between the intervention and control group was statistically significant in post-traumatic stress syndrome, resilience, and adaptive cognitive emotion regulation. Thus, the healing program of this study significantly reduced post-traumatic stress, and it improved both resilience and adaptive cognitive emotion regulation of cancer cancer survivors. Conclusion: The healing program is an effective psychosocial nursing intervention that helps cancer survivors feel better about their illness, and it helps them healthy transition from negative emotions to increased resilience and positive cognitive emotions. Polyethylene glycol (PEG) was introduced into synthetic bilirubin 3α and a PEGylated bilirubin 3α nanoparticle (BX-001N, Brixelle®) was developed for the first time. An in vitro microsomal stability study, in vivo PK studies with intravenous bolus (IV) and subcutaneous injection (SC), and a semi-mass balance study of BX-001N were investigated to evaluate its pharmacokinetic (PK) properties in male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats using developed liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-qTOF/MS). Following IV administration at 10 or 30 mg/kg, BX-001N showed very low clearance (0.33–0.67 mL/min/kg) with predominant distribution in the vascular system (Vd = 51.73–83.02 mL/kg). BX-001N was also very stable in vitro liver microsomal stability study. Following SC administration at 10 or 30 mg/kg, the bioavailability of BX-001N in plasma at 10 mg/kg was around 43% and showed the less dose-proportionality at 30 mg/kg dose. Purpose: Alzheimer’s disease (AD) dementia may not be a single disease entity. Early-onset AD (EOAD) and late-onset AD (LOAD) have been united under the same eponym of AD until now, but disentangling the heterogeneity according to the age of sonset has been a major tenet in the field of AD research. Materials and Methods: Ninety-nine patients with AD (EOAD, n=54; LOAD, n=45) and 66 cognitively normal controls completed both [18F]THK5351 and [18F]flutemetamol (FLUTE) positron emission tomography scans along with structural magnetic resonance imaging and detailed neuropsychological tests. Results: EOAD patients had higher THK retention in the precuneus, parietal, and frontal lobe, while LOAD patients had higher THK retention in the medial temporal lobe. Intravoxel correlation analyses revealed that EOAD presented narrower territory of local FLUTE-THK correlation, while LOAD presented broader territory of correlation extending to overall parieto-occipito-temporal regions. EOAD patients had broader brain areas which showed significant negative correlations between cortical thickness and THK retention, whereas in LOAD, only limited brain areas showed significant correlation with THK retention. In EOAD, most of the cognitive test results were correlated with THK retention. However, a few cognitive test results were correlated with THK retention in LOAD. Conclusion: LOAD seemed to show gradual increase in tau and amyloid, and those two pathologies have association to each other. On the other hand, in EOAD, tau and amyloid may develop more abruptly and independently. These findings suggest LOAD and EOAD may have different courses of pathomechanism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Muscle strength is known to play an important role in the health of older adults. The health burden of cigarette smoking among older adults remains significant. We investigated the association between smoking cessation and dynapenia among older lifetime smokers in Korea. Methods: This study is a secondary dataset analysis of cross-sectional data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) 2016– 2019. We included 1450 participants aged 65–79 years, excluding those who had never smoked. Dynapenia was defined as grip strength <28 kg for men and <18 kg for women based on the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia 2019 criteria. Multivariable logistic regression analysis evaluated the association between smoking cessation and dynapenia. Results: Compared with current smokers, the adjusted odds ratio (AOR) of dynapenia in former smokers was 0.66 (95% CI: 0.44–0.99). The AORs for smoking cessation periods of ≤10 years, 10–20 years, 20–30 years, and >30 years were 0.67 (95% CI: 0.39–1.16), 0.61 (95% CI: 0.36–1.03), 0.65 (95% CI: 0.37–1.14), and 0.52 (95% CI: 0.25–1.06), respectively. The AOR for dynapenia significantly decreased with the years since smoking cessation (p for trend=0.043). Conclusions: Our findings suggest that smoking cessation can reduce the likelihood of dynapenia among older lifetime smokers, with a decreasing likelihood trend associated with longer cessation periods. Honey bee (Apis mellifera L.) health is crucial for honey bee products and effective pollination, and it is closely associated with gut bacteria. Various factors such as reduced habitat, temperature, disease, and diet affect the health of honey bees by disturbing the homeostasis of the gut microbiota. In this study, high-throughput 16S rRNA gene sequencing was used to analyze the gut microbiota of honey bees subjected to seven diets over 5 days. Lactobacillus dominated the microbiota in all diets. Cage experiments (consumption, head protein content, and vitellogenin gene expression level) were conducted to verify the effect of the diet. Through a heatmap, the Diet2 (probiotic-supplemented) group was clustered together with the Beebread and honey group, showing high consumption (177.50 ± 26.16 mg/bee), moderately higher survival duration (29.00 ± 2.83 days), protein content in the head (312.62 ± 28.71 µg/mL), and diet digestibility (48.41 ± 1.90%). Additionally, we analyzed the correlation between gut microbiota and health-related indicators in honey bees fed each diet. Based on the overall results, we identified that probiotic-supplemented diets increased gut microbiota diversity and positively affected the overall health of individual honey bees. Background: Altered thyroid hormone levels have been associated with increased risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD) dementia and related cognitive decline. However, the neuropathological substrates underlying the link between thyroid hormones and AD dementia are not yet fully understood. We first investigated the association between serum thyroid hormone levels and in vivo AD pathologies including both beta-amyloid (Aβ) and tau deposition measured by positron emission tomography (PET). Given the well-known relationship between Aβ and tau pathology in AD, we additionally examined the moderating effects of thyroid hormone levels on the association between Aβ and tau deposition. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted as part of the Korean Brain Aging Study for Early Diagnosis and Prediction of Alzheimer's Disease (KBASE) cohort. This study included a total of 291 cognitively normal adults aged 55 to 90. All participants received comprehensive clinical assessments, measurements for serum total triiodothyronine (T3), free triiodothyronine (fT3), free thyroxine (fT4), and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), and brain imaging evaluations including [11C]-Pittsburgh compound B (PiB)- PET and [18F] AV-1451 PET. Results: No associations were found between either thyroid hormones or TSH and Aβ and tau deposition on PET. However, fT4 (p = 0.002) and fT3 (p = 0.001) exhibited significant interactions with Aβ on tau deposition: The sensitivity analyses conducted after the removal of an outlier showed that the interaction effect between fT4 and Aβ deposition was not significant, whereas the interaction between fT3 and Aβ deposition remained significant. However, further subgroup analyses demonstrated a more pronounced positive relationship between Aβ and tau in both the higher fT4 and fT3 groups compared to the lower group, irrespective of outlier removal. Meanwhile, neither T3 nor TSH had any interaction with Aβ on tau deposition. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that serum thyroid hormones may moderate the relationship between cerebral Aβ and tau pathology. Higher levels of serum thyroid hormones could potentially accelerate the Aβ-dependent tau deposition in the brain. Laser-induced graphene (LIG) provides a three-dimensional porous structure of graphene, which is suitable for application to energy storage devices and flexible electronics. Controlling the morphology and structure of LIG and understanding its underlying principle are important for enhancing the performance of LIG-based devices. Here, we investigated the effects of graphene interfacing with a precursor material on the LIG formation. A CO2 laser with different powers and scan rates was irradiated on a polyimide film covered with mono-, bi-, and trilayer graphene to fabricate in situ LIG contacts. As the number of graphene layers increases, the threshold energy required for the LIG formation decreases. In addition, the interfacing graphene causes spreading and smoothing of the LIG electrodes in the in-plane direction. A numerical study on the effect of the interfacing graphene on heat transfer was also conducted. The simulation results showed that the graphene layer enhances thermal diffusion to facilitate the LIG formation; this was also observed in the experimental results. Our study on the interfacial effects of a nanomaterial on the LIG formation provides design guidelines for considering heat transfer in LIG electronics fabricated with heterogeneous materials and structures. Plasmonic nanoparticles serve as nonfading pigments for vibrant outdoor glasses and smart windows, offering vivid colors under sunlight with exceptional spatial resolution. However, simultaneously achieving the desired plasmonic coloration in both reflection and transmission with a full‐color gamut remains a formidable challenge, especially when using a single fabrication method. Here, a facile physical triple co‐deposition method to construct scalable plasmonic superstructures, optimal for dichroic color engineering is demonstrated. A key feature of such all‐in‐one plasmonic superstructures lies in extensive color performance in transmission and reflection modes, spanning from transparent invisibility to vivid full colors across the wavelength range of over 600 nm. This exceptional coloration fidelity stems from their 3D‐stacked nanocomposite where plasmonic nanoparticles incorporate a random but uniform distribution within a glass matrix. Wafer‐scale rich and dynamic color images useful for colorful data storage and steganography, as demonstrated through layer‐by‐layer color painting with combinatorial plasmonic superstructures are shown. A pioneering integration of oxide semiconductor memristors with optoelectronic features is presented, surpassing binary limitations to realize multi‐valued synaptic operations. Through Pt/Ga2O3/Pt memristors, their structural and electronic attributes via atomic force microscopy, X‐ray diffraction, and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy are explored. Demonstrating unipolar resistance switching with remarkable endurance and retention, the devices exhibit intricate light‐resistance correlations, yielding substantial photoelectric effects in distinct resistance states. Investigating synaptic behaviors, potentiation, and depression akin to biological synapses are unveiled, facilitating learning and memory processes. The standout achievement lies in attaining quaternary memory storage within a single device. Empirical data and simulations validate this concept, showcasing the potential for encoding and sustaining multiple memory states. This innovation heralds transformative possibilities, emphasizing oxide semiconductor memristors as a gateway to quaternary memory storage and enhanced synaptic functions. Simple Summary: This study explored how lung cancer spreads through air spaces in small tumors (up to 2 cm) and its impact on patient outcomes. Focusing on small-size and early-stage lung adenocarcinomas, the researchers analyzed medical records of patients treated between 2012 and 2022. We measured the distance of floating cancer cells spread from the main tumor through alveolar spaces and categorized patients based on whether this spread was present and its extent. Interestingly, while overall survival rates were similar across groups, patients with more extensive spread (2 mm or more) experienced a higher chance of cancer recurrence even in this very early cancer. This suggests that understanding the extent of spread through air spaces is crucial in predicting cancer recurrence in small lung tumors. Further research with a larger group of patients is needed to confirm these risk factors and improve treatment strategies. This study aimed to identify the clinical manifestation and implications according to the grading of tumor spread through air spaces in early-stage small (≤2 cm) pathological stage I non-mucinous lung adenocarcinomas. Medical records of patients with pathological stage I tumors sized ≤2 cm were retrospectively reviewed and analyzed. The furthest distance of the spread through air spaces from the tumor margin was measured on a standard-length scale (mm). Enrolled patients were categorized into spread through air spaces (STAS) (−) and STAS (+), and STAS (+) was subdivided according to its furthest distance as follows: STAS (+)-L (<2 mm) and STAS (+)-H (≥2 mm). Risk factors for STAS (+) included papillary predominant subtype (p = 0.027), presence of micropapillary patterns (p < 0.001), and EGFR (p = 0.039). The overall survival of the three groups did not differ significantly (p = 0.565). The recurrence-free survival of STAS (+)-H groups was significantly lower than those of STAS (−) and STAS (+)-L (p < 0.001 and p = 0.039, respectively). A number of alveolar spaces were definite risk factors for STAS (+)-H groups (p < 0.001), and male gender could be one (p = 0.054). In the patient group with small (≤2 cm) pathological stage I lung adenocarcinomas, the presence of STAS ≥ 2 mm was related to significantly lower recurrence-free survival. Atopic dermatitis is a chronic complex inflammatory skin disorder that requires sustainable treatment methods due to the limited efficacy of conventional therapies. Sargassum serratifolium, an algal species with diverse bioactive substances, is investigated in this study for its potential benefits as a therapeutic agent for atopic dermatitis. RNA sequencing of LPS-stimulated macrophages treated with ethanolic extract of Sargassum serratifolium (ESS) revealed its ability to inhibit a broad range of inflammation-related signaling, which was proven in RAW 264.7 and HaCaT cells. In DNCB-induced BALB/c or HR-1 mice, ESS treatment improved symptoms of atopic dermatitis within the skin, along with histological improvements such as reduced epidermal thickness and infiltration of mast cells. ESS showed a tendency to improve serum IgE levels and inflammation-related cytokine changes, while also improving the mRNA expression levels of Chi3l3, Ccr1, and Fcεr1a genes in the skin. Additionally, ESS compounds (sargachromanol (SCM), sargaquinoic acid (SQA), and sargahydroquinoic acid (SHQA)) mitigated inflammatory responses in LPS-treated RAW264.7 macrophages. This study investigates the effect of a high-temperature annealing process on the characteristics and performance of a memristor based on a Ag/Ga2O3/Pt structure. Through X-ray diffraction analysis, successful phase conversion from amorphous Ga2O3 to β-Ga2O3 is confirmed, attributed to an increase in grain size and recrystallization induced by annealing. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis revealed a higher oxygen vacancy in annealed Ga2O3 thin films, which is crucial for conductive filament formation and charge transport in memristors. Films with abundant oxygen vacancies exhibit decreased set voltages and increased capacitance in a low-resistive state, enabling easy capacitance control depending on channel presence. In addition, an excellent memory device with a high on/off ratio can be implemented due to the reduction of leakage current due to recrystallization. Therefore, it is possible to manufacture a thin film suitable for a memristor by increasing the oxygen vacancy in the Ga2O3 film while improving the overall crystallinity through the annealing process. This study highlights the significance of annealing in modulating capacitance and high-resistive/low-resistive state properties of Ga2O3 memristors, contributing to optimizing device design and performance. Mutations in the Microrchidia CW-type zinc finger 2 (MORC2) GHKL ATPase module cause a broad range of neuropathies, such as Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 2Z; however, the aetiology and therapeutic strategy are not fully understood. Previously, we reported that the Morc2a p.S87L mouse model exhibited neuropathy and muscular dysfunction through DNA damage accumulation. In the present study, we analysed the gene expression of Morc2a p.S87L mice and designated the primary causing factor. We investigated the pathological pathway using Morc2a p.S87L mouse embryonic fibroblasts and human fibroblasts harbouring MORC2 p.R252W. We subsequently assessed the therapeutic effect of gene therapy administered to Morc2a p.S87L mice. This study revealed that Morc2a p.S87L causes a protein synthesis defect, resulting in the loss of function of Morc2a and high cellular apoptosis induced by high hydroxyl radical levels. We considered the Morc2a GHKL ATPase domain as a therapeutic target because it simultaneously complements hydroxyl radical scavenging and ATPase activity. We used the adeno-associated virus (AAV)-PHP.eB serotype, which has a high CNS transduction efficiency, to express Morc2a or Morc2a GHKL ATPase domain protein in vivo. Notably, AAV gene therapy ameliorated neuropathy and muscular dysfunction with a single treatment. Loss-of-function characteristics due to protein synthesis defects in Morc2a p.S87L were also noted in human MORC2 p.S87L or p.R252W variants, indicating the correlation between mouse and human pathogenesis. In summary, CMT2Z is known as an incurable genetic disorder, but the present study demonstrated its mechanisms and treatments based on established animal models. Before starting any construction work, providing workers with awareness about past similar accident cases is effective in preventing mishaps. Based on construction accident reports, this study developed two models to identify past accidents at sites with similar site information. The site information includes 16 parameters, such as type of work, type of accident, the work in which the accident occurred, weather conditions, contract conditions, type of work, etc. The first model, the site information classification model, uses named entity recognition tasks to classify site information, which is extracted from accident reports. The second model, the similar-site accident retrieval model, which finds the most similar accidents that occurred in the past from input site information, uses a semantic textual similarity task to match the classified information with it. A total of 17,707 accident reports from South Korean construction sites were found; these models were trained to use Korean Language Understanding Evaluation–Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (KLUE-BERT) for processing. The first model achieved an average accuracy of 0.928, and the second model was precisely matched, with a mean cosine similarity score exceeding 0.90. These models could identify and provide workers with similar past accidents, enabling proactive safety measures, such as site-specific hazard identification and worker education, thereby allowing recognition of construction safety risks before starting work. This study explores how elevated carbon dioxide (CO2) levels affects the growth and defense mechanisms of plants. We focused on Aristolochia contorta Bunge (Aristolochiaceae), a wild plant that exhibits growth reduction under elevated CO2 in the previous study. The plant has Sericinus montela Gray (Papilionidae) as a specialist herbivore. By analyzing primary metabolites, understanding both the growth and defense response of plants to herbivory under elevated CO2 conditions is possible. The experiment was conducted across four groups, combining two CO2 concentration conditions (ambient CO2 and elevated CO2) with two herbivory conditions (herbivory treated and untreated). Although many plants exhibit increased growth under elevated CO2 levels, A. contorta exhibited reduced growth with lower height, dry weight, and total leaf area. Under herbivory, A. contorta triggered both localized and systemic responses. More primary metabolites exhibited significant differences due to herbivory treatment in systemic tissue than local leaves that herbivory was directly treated. Herbivory under elevated CO2 level triggered more significant responses in primary metabolites (17 metabolites) than herbivory under ambient CO2 conditions (five metabolites). Several defense-related metabolites exhibited higher concentrations in the roots and lower concentrations in the leaves in response to the herbivory treatment in the elevated CO2 group. This suggests a potential intensification of defensive responses in the underground parts of the plant under elevated CO2 levels. Our findings underscore the importance of considering both abiotic and biotic factors in understanding plant responses to environmental changes. In this paper, the causes of dead pixels are analyzed and the coordinates of dead pixels are predicted using machine learning to solve problems of dead pixels. Unlike the existing method of analyzing defects using images, tabular data where each element contains significance were used, and detailed description of suggested models are depicted.
