This article examines police data to assess the duration for which different groups of victims of modern slavery endured exploitation and the length of time after their exploitation concluded before it was officially recorded. The article proposes that these measures of modern slavery victimisation can provide important insights into temporal dimensions of the problem and how best to intervene. Reference to current numbers of victims 'rescued', it is argued, can be misleading given the proportion of belated reports of exploitation. These are more indicative of systemic failures in the provision of statutory services that young and vulnerable people hesitate to call upon in the context of an increasingly hostile immigration environment. The health consequences of human trafficking have been poorly researched compared to other aspects of this crime. A systematic review was carried out to study health from a broader perspective, beyond psychophysical symptoms, to understand the global impact of human trafficking on sexual, social, physical, and psychological health. The search identified many studies focused on the violence of sex trafficking in female samples. This work leads us to conclude that social health is an important dimension of the well-being of trafficking victims. More studies are needed on aspects of social health, especially regarding research gaps related to spirituality and nutrition, thus continuing preventing and combating human trafficking. Many gender biases were also discovered: unlike studies of trafficking in women, the few studies on men did not look at parenting, sexual health, marital status, or sex trafficking. Ecuador until recently was known as a haven of relative peace in its region, but it is in the process of being transformed by surging crime. The country's homicide rate is now among the highest in Latin America; a presidential candidate campaigning on an anti-crime platform was assassinated in 2023. Since 2020, increasingly brazen narco-traffickers have been battling for control of the country's ports, and criminal gangs are threatening to capture the state. The article discusses a case in which two appellants, who were 17 years old at the time of the appeal, were convicted of drug offenses and sentenced to Youth Rehabilitation Orders. They argued that they should be able to rely on the statutory defense provided in the Modern Slavery Act 2015, which states that a person under 18 does not commit an offense if they were a victim of slavery or exploitation and a reasonable person in the same situation would have done the same act. The trial judge incorrectly instructed the jury that compulsion needed to be established for the defense to apply. The Court of Appeal allowed the appeals and quashed the convictions, stating that the defense does not require compulsion. The article highlights the importance of correctly explaining the elements of the defense to the jury and suggests that closer attention should be paid to the wording of the statute and guidance provided. In China, women with disabilities are one of the main victims of human trafficking against women. The victims of abducting crimes and the buyers are both concentrated in rural areas, which implicit profound social and cultural causes. Demographic and social-culture factors under the influence of patriarchal ideology and marriage squeeze have jointly caused the crimes, while China's urbanization and poverty in rural areas deeply affected the lives of women with disabilities and protection against trafficking and other crimes. This study examines the influencing factors of trafficking in women in China and the inadequacies of social support and care for disabled women in anti-trafficking. Furthermore, this study recommends a set of countermeasures and suggestions on the aspects of social support and assistance for the prevention, timely rescue, and elimination of crimes. It is striking how often the first-person memories in Annie Ernaux's 2016 work of life-writing Mémoire de fille are rendered from a third-person perspective. Visual depictions of the author's younger self are shown to us as if the older Ernaux who is narrating the story were present at the scene, seeing her former self from the outside. The events recounted include sexual exploitation and public shaming for falling foul of the era's sexual double standards, and, in the aftermath of this, an identity crisis and an eating disorder. How does Ernaux's complex interplay of empathy and distance with regard to her younger self affect the social and political themes in the work, and the ethical stance of the text towards them? Human trafficking is the use of force, fraud, or coercion to compel a person into performing a commercial sex act or other labor services for a profit. Burgeoning research has shown perpetrators of labor trafficking (LT) can be anyone, including intimate partners. The current study utilized retrospective chart reviews of hospital patients who reported experiencing intimate partner violence (IPV) and intimate partner-controlled LT between October 2017 and July 2022. Sixteen patients were identified. All but one patient identified as female and the average age was 38 years old (M = 38.06, SD = 10.67). Most patients were White/Caucasian (50%) or Hispanic (43.8%) and were born in the U.S. (68.8%). Suicidal ideation/suicide attempt was the most frequently cited presenting problems. Depression (37.5%) and bipolar disorder (31.3%) were the most common primary diagnoses, and most patients had a comorbid substance use disorder (62.5%). The majority of patients either lived in their own home (37.5%), or in a shelter or on the street (37.5%) prior to coming to the hospital. Five cases were selected to be highlighted in a case series to describe the complex experiences of these patients. Cases examined include LT within retail, domestic work, illicit activities, peddling and begging, and other labor settings. The findings from this study can help to inform screening and intervention approaches in the healthcare and community settings, as well as inform future research on IPV and LT. The "Safe Third Country" principle in international refugee law refers to a State's ability to reject a person's asylum application if they have already been granted protection by another country in compliance with the 1951 Refugee Convention. However, asylum seekers face higher risks Of human trafficking because of their transient and vulnerable circumstances, and some of the most frequently implicated Safe Third Countries are consistently ranked in Tier 2 or below in the US State Department's annual Trafficking in Persons Report; this ranking indicates that they are not in full compliance with the minimum standards provided in the Trafficking Victims Protection Act. This Comment argues that asylum seekers who have experienced human trafficking throughouttheir migration journey should be exempted from Safe Third Country agreements with States that rank in Tier 2 or below. It will survey Greece, Turkey, and the Northern Triangle as examples of States often deemed to be Safe Third Countries, yet have recurring difficulties prosecuting human trafficking violations and protecting victims; this Comment will ultimately propose a solution as to how these exemptions can be implemented in practice. In the Processo Agaish trial, Italian prosecutors accused Eritrean refugees of human trafficking and exploiting their clients' desires to move further North. Pointing out the mistranslation of the Tigrinya word agaish was part of the defense's strategy to show that the purported victims in this case were not clients, but guests, often family members of those accused who hosted them, not for money but for something akin to hospitality. Defense lawyers linked this case with activist efforts to decry instances where solidarity with asylum seekers was criminalized as aiding and abetting human trafficking in order to expose this criminalization of solidarity as the latest politically motivated tactic in migrant deterrence. This article details the culturally specific forms of caretaking amongst Eritreans in order to consider, from an Eritrean perspective, the relational aspects of care and rethink the scholarship on the 'criminalization of solidarity' that limits itself to understanding solidarity in terms of politics. This article further argues that relational ties and hospitality practices amongst agaish become fragmented in the Eritrean diaspora. This work is based on ethnographic fieldwork with the Eritrean refugee community living primarily in Rome from 2016 to 2018 and access to case files in a human-trafficking investigation. Purpose: The globalisation of supply chains has contributed to modern slavery by degrading labour standards and work practices. The inherent difficulties involved in monitoring extremely fragmented production processes also render workers in and from developing countries vulnerable to labour exploitation. This research adopts a benchmark methodology that will help examine the inherent modern slavery challenges. Design/methodology/approach: This study examines how the benchmark model, including governance, risk assessment, purchasing practice, recruitment and remedy of victims, addresses supply chain modern slavery challenges. The proposed hypotheses are tested based on the reoccurring issues of modern slavery in global supply chains. Findings: Estimations suggest that modern slavery is a growing and increasingly prominent international problem, indicating that it is the second largest and fastest growing criminal enterprise worldwide except for narcotics trafficking. These social issues in global supply chains have drawn attention to the importance of verifying, monitoring and mapping supply chains, especially in lengthy and complex supply chains. However, the advent of digital technologies and benchmarking methodologies has become one of the existing key performance indicators (KPIs) for measuring the effectiveness of modern slavery initiatives in supply chains. Originality/value: This review provides an understanding of the current situation of global supply chains concerning the growing social issue of modern slavery. However, this includes various individual specialities relating to global supply chains, modern slavery, socially sustainable supply chain management (SCM), logistic social responsibility, corporate social responsibility and digitalisation. Faced with this situation, a general awareness has led to the creation of an international day against drug abuse and trafficking on June 26. Several international and regional conventions are working together to develop strategies and policies to fight this scourge. The aim of this study is to look for the prevalence and associated factors of drug use in schools in the city of Ouagadougou in 2019. This study used a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study using a self-administered questionnaire administered to students in schools in the city of Ouagadougou who were present during the survey in March 2019. The collection tool was a self-administered questionnaire inspired by the WHO guide on school health surveillance in the Burkinabe context, which had been previously tested. Kobocollect software was used to collect the data. Data processing and analysis were carried out using STATA version 15.1 software. The variable of interest was drug use. The data collected were analyzed with STATA version 15.1 software. The students in this study ranged in age from 12 to 25, with a mean age of 14.78 ± 2.26 years. The prevalence of drug use was 6.11%. It varied significantly according to gender, pocket money, and history of drug use. Strategies to combat drug use must be strengthened and adapted to our context in order to bring about a change in behavior, especially in schools. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Human trafficking in the hotel industry represents a hidden threat that demands decisive action. Despite public commitments, the sector's initiatives remain inconsistent, and a wave of lawsuits imposes both financial and reputational risks. Through analysis of relevant legislation and case law, the article demonstrates hotels' potential liability as venues enabling trafficking. However, inconsistent self-regulation and lawsuits reveal limited progress. The authors advocate for insurance companies to play a pivotal role in combatting human trafficking in the hotel industry by strategically adjusting coverage provisions. They trace the historical influence of insurers on the trajectory of slavery when 18th-century British insurers' actions contributed to the rise of abolitionism and argue that similar private regulation today can incentivize hotels' proactive measures against trafficking. The article proposes that insurers possess diverse tools, including exclusions, premium adjustments, auditing, and loss prevention, to compel action rather than complacency. Mandated self-insured retentions can also hold hotels financially accountable for their negligence. However, relying solely on pricing alterations faces challenges due to market competition and inconsistent judicial rulings on liability exclusions. Ultimately, addressing this complex issue requires a collaborative, multi-stakeholder approach. Government fines and prosecutions can further incentivize self-disclosure and cooperation, while publicized settlements can promote transparency and empower consumers to make informed choices for hotel venues. This combined framework can transition hotels from passive enablers to active contributors in the fight against human trafficking, fulfilling their duty of care and catalyzing meaningful progress against human exploitation. Despite growing international awareness and legislation, the hospitality and tourism industries are still hot spots for modern slavery due to the nature of their businesses. The purpose of this study is to explore corporate social responsibility (CSR) disclosures of firms in the U.S. hospitality and tourism industry and to examine what actions they have incorporated regarding protecting human rights and preventing modern slavery. Using content analysis, this study provided a benchmarking assessment from a sample of hospitality and tourism companies that were top ranked for their human rights and supply chain performance by CSRHub. A total of 30 code instruments have been classified into three main themes on combating modern slavery including formal guidelines and resources, company-wide compliances and policies, and actions. Average edge connectivity is a fundamental metric in classical and fuzzy graph theory. It is a key parameter in evaluating the reliability of a network. Fuzzy average edge connectivity more accurately describes the overall stability of links in the network by providing a more precise measure of the connectivity of the fuzzy graphs. It is particularly significant in situations where connectivity strength and dependability possess a degree of fuzziness, including communication networks with variable signal intensities or transit systems with unpredictable travel durations. In this article, we describe the types of edges in Pythagorean fuzzy graphs and the ideas of the Pythagorean fuzzy trees and cycles. We define the Pythagorean fuzzy average edge connectivity of Pythagorean fuzzy graphs using the concept of minimal Pythagorean fuzzy local edge cut. We provide the bounds for the Pythagorean fuzzy average edge connectivity of Pythagorean fuzzy graphs and strong Pythagorean fuzzy graphs. We discuss the Pythagorean fuzzy average edge connectivity of edge-deleted Pythagorean fuzzy subgraphs of Pythagorean fuzzy graphs. Moreover, we determine the effect of the different types of edges on the Pythagorean fuzzy average edge connectivity. We establish some results on Pythagorean fuzzy average edge connectivity. Furthermore, we design some algorithms to compute the Pythagorean fuzzy average edge connectivity of particular Pythagorean fuzzy graphs as complete Pythagorean fuzzy graphs and saturated Pythagorean fuzzy cycles. We provide the application of Pythagorean fuzzy average edge connectivity in human trafficking. Trafficking in Persons (TPPO) is a grave human rights violation because it causes various negative impacts on victims physically, psychologically, or socio-economically; one of the efforts to restore victims of TPPO is through restitution. This research explores the role of restitution in the context of TPPO. This research adopts a qualitative approach by collecting data through a literature study. Furthermore, the data is analysed through three stages: data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings of the research indicate that restitution plays a vital role as a remedy and legal protection for victims of human trafficking. In its application, the punishment for the obligation to pay restitution can be replaced with imprisonment. Criminal punishment is not merely a deterrent effect on the convicted person, but recovery for the victim of the crime itself through restitution must be considered. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) included the goal of combating child labor and human trafficking, but regional variations complicate efforts to address these problems. In Sierra Leone, the government has taken steps to address these issues, but challenges remain, particularly in relation to access to education, in rural areas, and for young girls. This article examines local stakeholder understandings of child trafficking, and the distinction between child labor and child work in Sierra Leone. Participants included community leaders and those with lived experience of exploitation. Findings identify complex intersections and overlaps in understandings of these terms, and the ways these connect with norms and expectations impacting children and childhood in Sierra Leone. Lessons are drawn out for local and international policy and programming to incorporate structural factors within a wider lens of child protection, reframing anti‐trafficking to focus on positive aspects of recovery and resilience. For years, survivors of sex trafficking, people compelled by force or circumstance to engage in sex acts, were often wrongly convicted of prostitution and many collateral crimes in the United States. These convictions became a permanent part of survivors' criminal records, inhibiting their ability to satisfy necessities for a dignified life—finding work and a place to live, or going to school. Since 2010, forty-five state legislatures across the US have sought to solve this problem by passing vacatur laws. These laws allow the survivors of sex trafficking a means to erase certain charges and convictions from their records. The American movement to support the human rights of sex trafficking victims is part of a larger, global non-criminalization movement to support survivors' human rights. This article surveys the recent and robust diffusion of American vacatur laws, situates them amidst the larger, global non-criminalization movement, and highlights both the strengths and weaknesses of the current US vacatur laws with an eye toward closing the rights gap for sex trafficking survivors. We argue that extant vacatur legislation should be expanded to include all crimes traffickers compel victims to commit, should incorporate trauma-informed means for establishing victimhood, and should be passed at the federal level to ensure complete and uniform protection. As forced migration increases dramatically due to such factors as climate change, rising conflict, and authoritarianism, more legal cases on human trafficking and sex work are sure to arise. To date, very few cases on these issues have been decided in international human rights tribunals, and they have been subject to extensive criticism, especially for their conflation of slavery, human trafficking, forced prostitution, and consensual sex work. This article analyzes recent jurisprudence from Europe and Africa to address this conceptual confusion and argue that tribunals must interrogate their use of the terms dignity and exploitation or risk further marginalizing already marginalized people. Multiple systems estimation using a Poisson loglinear model is a standard approach to quantifying hidden populations where data sources are based on lists of known cases. Information criteria are often used for selecting between the large number of possible models. Confidence intervals are often reported conditional on the model selected, providing an over-optimistic impression of estimation accuracy. A bootstrap approach is a natural way to account for the model selection. However, because the model selection step has to be carried out for every bootstrap replication, there may be a high or even prohibitive computational burden. We explore the merit of modifying the model selection procedure in the bootstrap to look only among a subset of models, chosen on the basis of their information criterion score on the original data. This provides large computational gains with little apparent effect on inference. We also incorporate rigorous and economical ways of approaching issues of the existence of estimators when applying the method to sparse data tables. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Human trafficking (HT) violates human rights and brings long-lasting consequences for victims. This study aimed to geographically and statistically analyze (1) the implementation of a youth educational prevention program, kNOw MORE! (kM!) located in San Diego County (SD); (2) clusters of student participants who desired to talk further about trafficking after participating in kM!; (3) clusters of SD regions that included protective factors based on mental and social services for survivors of HT and similar populations; and (4) the low and high risk clusters for trafficking within SD. kM! is a preventive program that seeks to increase knowledge and self-efficacy to prevent trafficking. kM! is designed to increase knowledge and self-efficacy among middle and high school students to prevent HT. Databases used included the U.S. Census, the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System, kM!'s (2016–2020), among others. Results indicate that kM! was implemented throughout the six regions of SD. These presentations reached a total of N = 11,586 participants. Analysis of ZIP codes highlighted the South and East regions as representing the highest cluster for kM!'s presentations. Central, North Inland, and South Regions of SD are among the ones with highest percentiles of HT vulnerability scores. Regarding protective factors, the Central Region of San Diego contains the highest clustering of mental health and social services. These findings can assist diverse stakeholders and leaders to geographically strategize their anti-trafficking efforts. Human trafficking is a complex, multifaceted, and deeply layered issue. Consequently, any mitigation strategy employed against it must also be layered and target the distinct aspects of the issue. For long, the obvious and perhaps the most visible practice to deal with cases of trafficking has been employing a criminal justice approach where the focus largely lies on the persecution of the criminal instead of the protection of the survivors. More nuanced approaches, such as anti-trafficking clauses that protect human rights and focus on removing root causes that directly or indirectly have an impact on trafficking patterns, including labor, migration, and sexual exploitation issues, have emerged to successfully tackle human trafficking as a global issue. The principles and guidelines for such a multi-sectoral, human rights-based approach are primarily aimed at trafficking prevention, protection, assistance to survivors of trafficking, criminalization, punishment, and redressal. This article aims to evaluate this approach and its intersections with the traditional criminal justice approach. It will further discuss the approach that is currently in practice and argue for further improvements and efforts. Finally, it will also discuss the impact of COVID-19 on trafficking in persons. Background: Early Childhood Caries (ECC) is a prevalent chronic non-communicable disease that affects millions of young children globally, with profound implications for their well-being and oral health. This paper explores the associations between ECC and the targets of the Sustainable Development Goal 8 (SDG 8). Methods: The scoping review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) guidelines. In July 2023, a search was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus using tailored search terms related to economic growth, decent work sustained economic growth, higher levels of productivity and technological innovation, entrepreneurship, job creation, and efforts to eradicate forced labor, slavery, and human trafficking and ECC all of which are the targets of the SDG8. Only English language publications, and publications that were analytical in design were included. Studies that solely examined ECC prevalence without reference to SDG8 goals were excluded. Results: The initial search yielded 761 articles. After removing duplicates and ineligible manuscripts, 84 were screened. However, none of the identified studies provided data on the association between decent work, economic growth-related factors, and ECC. Conclusions: This scoping review found no English publication on the associations between SDG8 and ECC despite the plausibility for this link. This data gap can hinder policymaking and resource allocation for oral health programs. Further research should explore the complex relationship between economic growth, decent work and ECC to provide additional evidence for better policy formulation and ECC control globally. Victims of trafficking in persons are understood as Victims of crime are persons who have suffered personal or collective harm, including physical or mental injury, mental suffering, financial loss, or substantial damage to their basic rights, as a result of acts or omissions that violate applicable criminal laws and laws. That prevents criminal abuse of power. Victims of human rights crimes, namely the right to obtain restitution, medical rehabilitation, social rehabilitation, social reintegration, and refoulment. This study uses normative legal research methods with a research approach, namely the statutory approach and the legal concept analysis approach. As well as the data analysis technique used is a qualitative descriptive analysis technique. the result of the social reintegration of victims of trafficking in persons as a process of reuniting victims with their families or communities includes physical, psychological and rehabilitation protection and ensures that the reintegration process of applicable social norms can be understood by victims who wish to return to their hometowns. In the Indonesian context, especially the Social Service in Malang, victims must also ensure that they have identity cards, family cards, and other supporting data as tools for identification and a complete assessment of human trafficking victims. However, considering that human trafficking victims are vulnerable, especially in population data and administration, other identification options are needed to make integrating human trafficking victims easier. This paper aims to examine the problems with Indonesia’s proposed criminal law reform. It is a legal normative research kind. It can be obtained by using a literature study. The implementation of this research is limited to how the development orientation to find issues of child trafficking relates to reform of the criminal law. The orientation of reforming national criminal law cannot be contradicted by another regulation. Crime, criminal responsibility, and sentence are the three main problems in criminal law that represent the concept of balance. The issue of national criminal law reform for child trafficking is based on political, practical, and sociological considerations. The urgency of preventing and eradicating child trafficking needs to be carried out by formulating trafficking in persons in the Law No. 1 of 2023 Concerning Penal Code in an explicit, firm, and well-substantiated manner, as well as by including the meaning, scope, and limitations trafficking in person, including child trafficking. The process of proving narcotics trafficking cases in the digital era is closely related to the due process of law. However, if the proof process is carried out with legal defects, then the evidence obtained is also legally flawed, which renders it unusable as legal evidence before the trial. Considering this, the study aims to explore the criminal policy of law enforcement for narcotics trafficking in the digital era within the jurisdiction of Medan City, focusing on the factors that influence law enforcement and the criminal law enforcement policies for narcotics trafficking. This study adopts a normative legal research approach, using descriptive analysis and the statute approach. The data collection technique involves library research and interviews, with data analysis conducted through a qualitative method. The research results reveal that the most influential factor is the legal culture, as there is a stigma in law enforcement for narcotics crime, and everyone is suspected of being a dealer always seeking the lightest punishment and fast legal process. However, if the perpetrator is a narcotics user/abuser, there are Law Enforcement Officials who are unscrupulous and want the user to be subject to criminal sanctions as a dealer. In terms of law enforcement efforts, the penal policies carried out by law enforcement officials are still insufficient in eradicating narcotics trafficking in the digital era. The study suggests that with the support of the ITE Law regarding electronic evidence, law enforcement officials should be able to use these instruments in uncovering criminal cases to make it easier to prove. Many studies have examined the sexual exploitation of children few have explored the economic and criminal exploitation, mostly using qualitative research. In addition, not many studies have been done on children who are economically exploited by their own parents who force them to work as drug couriers. This study used a mixed methods concurrent embedded model to obtain more comprehensive data with 15 child victims of exploitation and 150 respondents as informants. Data collection, data analysis, and data validity were done using qualitative and quantitative methods. The results showed that drug couriers were a form of economic exploitation as well as criminal exploitation of children by families. The contributing factor is the child’s fear of parents who always commit violence, although children worked as drug couriers because of their own desire to help the family economy and personal needs. The social environment contributes to the exploitation of children because it is in the social environment of children that helps parents work, thus undermining parents’ care for their children. Various methods are used if the child does not want to work as a drug courier, such as physical violence, psychological violence and threats, and sometimes giving gifts and freedom of association. This study aims to determine the factors that cause the sex trafficking of women and children in Makassar City. This research is a qualitative descriptive study using a bibliography study to obtain comprehensive research results. The research location is located in Makassar City, South Sulawesi. The types of data used include primary data, secondary data, and tertiary data. Data techniques were used in interviews and literature studies. Data analysis uses an interactive analysis model. The findings of this study are that there are power relations that result in women and children becoming victims of vulnerable groups. As the number of international organizations ("IOs") expands worldwide, so too does their footprint--not just in terms of positive human rights, development, and humanitarian deliverables, but also of widespread and systematic human rights violations. Indeed, some beneficiaries of IO activities have alleged multiple violations attributable to IOs, including sexual exploitation and abuse, forced labor, and environmental contamination. Taking the United Nations and its specialized agencies as the emblematic case, this Article argues that there is a glaring accountability gap facing victims and survivors of IO abuses. After setting out the legal personality and obligations of IOs under public international law, as well as a snapshot of documented IO violations, this Article enumerates two key obstacles to remedy and reparation: IO immunities pursuant to treaty and statutory law and structural shortcomings in existing internal accountability mechanisms. This Article argues that, amidst such limitations, one vector of accountability continues to be overlooked: the apology. It explains the normative value and significance of the apology and finds that IO apologies to date have often fallen into a trap of "pseudo-apology," marred by denials and deflections, intentional ambiguity, and perfunctory delivery. Drawing from the political science and transitional justice literature, this Article sets out three prerequisites for a meaningful apology: a victim- and survivor-centered approach in substance and procedure; full, unequivocal, and specific acknowledgement of IO wrongdoing and harms; and a commitment to non-repetition and institutional reform. The present manuscript aims to stimulate a reflection on the practice of Women Trafficking as a form of violence against women and, consequently, a public health issue. The central objective is to analyze the epidemiological data present in the Information System of Injuries and Notification - SINAN, regarding Women Trafficking in Ceará. A quantitative approach was adopted as the method, involving tabulation and data analysis. The results reveal epidemiological underreporting but allow the identification of prevalence within the victims' profile. The discussion is based on intersectional feminism, considering the confluence of vulnerabilities gathered from the records. What is known about human trafficking, particularly for the purpose of sexual exploitation, has long been shaped by social constructions, including of gender, such as in mainstream and social media, which have directly impacted how sex trafficking, victims, and survivors are presently understood, as well as past and current efforts to prevent and address it. Much of what is known about sex trafficking has been presented through a white, western, and positivist lens, with little consideration of race, culture, and other intersectional factors, or how structural oppression, and the trauma that results from these factors can impact risks for sexual violence and trafficking. As such, existing gaps in reliable sources of knowledge on sex trafficking are explored and discussed, prioritizing a critical intersectional and trauma-informed approach and intersectional considerations for knowledge building, prevention, intervention, and advocacy through research, practice, education, and policy development. Human trafficking can have multiple adverse effects on a victim's mental and physical health. The study explored how a small UK community arts project was experienced by individuals post‐trafficking and the impact it had on well‐being. Community‐based participatory research was employed to increase understanding the experiences of six female participants taking part in a community arts project. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis. Themes of Authentic Care, Building Confidence, and Creative Expression were developed. Findings suggest the community arts organization played a vital role in supporting women to build trust and social connections, as well as to feel valued. Artistic activities helped participants express individuality, had therapeutic benefits, and provided motivation, routine, and space from worries. This study takes a cognitive view of metaphor to investigate the terms designating vulnerable people used in two legal languages, namely English as used in the European Union and Mandarin Chinese. We applied a discourse dynamics approach to metaphor to explore the implicit connotations of the terms identifying different groups of vulnerable people (e.g., minors, disabled people, victims of human trafficking). The findings show that even when appearing in legal texts, many of the key terms for these groups are not objective, nor are they unbiased and detached from our subjective and bodily experience of the world. When these terms are connoted, they tend to have negative connotations, raising concerns about their social implications. This study highlights the entailments of embodiment theories for terminology and proposes that the identification of groups of vulnerable people is a social product motivated by unconscious relations of power rather than relations of assistance and reciprocity. After a series of meetings between medical personnel and community stakeholders, the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia successfully launched the Adolescent Protection Collaborative in July 2021. This novel clinic created a specialized medical home for sex-trafficked youth. The clinic was staffed by a core team of child abuse pediatrics and adolescent medicine physicians and a social worker who provided coordinated evaluations and same-day services, followed by ongoing long-term care. The Adolescent Protection Collaborative model was built on interdisciplinary collaboration with the goal of consolidating medical services and reducing fragmentation of care. A Community Advisory Committee was formed and aided in linking interested youth with additional services. Healthcare navigation was facilitated through support of a clinic-specific social worker, and transportation barriers were largely eliminated through a grant-funded program. Pilot data from the initial 21 months of clinical operations revealed that 88% of 43 referred patients (ages ranging from 13-22 years with a mean of 16 years) attended a scheduled appointment with 55% returning for follow up. Most patients (68%) identified as Black. All (100%) had past or present involvement with child protective services. Fifty percent of referrals tested positive for a sexually transmitted infection with a total of 33 sexually transmitted infections diagnosed and treated. Patient-desired contraception was facilitated for approximately 67% of referrals. Social care needs, such as referrals for educational support, case management, housing and employment resources, and mental health linkages, were offered alongside standard medical services. Child sex trafficking is an international dilemma. While child sex trafficking has been practiced for centuries, international leaders began focusing prominently on the phenomenon in the early 1990s. Political documents preceding this surge in concern include the 1902 International Agreement for the Suppression of White Slave Traffic, which thwarted the facilitation of selling women and girls abroad. Further, in 1910, the Mann Act forbade the transportation of persons, specifically women, for sex work. The United Nations took serious steps in 2000 when it enacted the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, which identified the use of modern-day slavery and discussed the process of internationally eradicating both labor and sex trafficking. Fundamentally, the United Nations focused on the training of immigration and police officials. By the time victims interact with these entities, however, it is often too late for the entities to help them. The United Nations protocol thus uses a criminal justice approach to halting child sex trafficking, but this Note will examine why this approach is not as effective as it could be and why the United States has set the standard for child sex trafficking identification through its public health approach. Substantial custodial sentences were handed down from the English Central Criminal Court for organ trafficking. Attempts to exploit vulnerable people for the purposes of organ removal, and for organ, tissue, and cells (OTC) trafficking are ongoing in many jurisdictions. It is also clear from the 2019 EU evaluation of the Union legislation on blood, tissues, and cells that there is increasing commercialization in the procurement of human material for medical use, using global supply chains. Full traceability of all human material, for which there is a shortage to meet global medical needs, is required. The medical profession has drafted the Istanbul Declaration on Organ Trafficking and Transplant Tourism 2008, calling for transplant tourism to be prohibited, and full engagement with transnational law enforcement to address developing transnational organized crime in this area. This paper contributes to the growing consensus of voices who articulate how the newfound North American consciousness around "anti-Asian hate" must connect individual acts of violence to structural forms of state and white supremacist violence. Focusing on the policing of Asian massage work, the essay argues that this unique human-itarian commitment reflects the slow economic violence of rescue. It contextualizes the 2021 Atlanta massage murders alongside the work of Red Canary Song (RCS), a grassroots coalition of migrant massage workers, sex workers, and allies organizing against the policing of massage work in New York. The essay echoes an abolitionist call to not only dismantle policing and punishment mechanisms—as these forms of policing have penetrated most aspects of civilian life—but demands the urgency to build a vast network of community resources coupled with imaginative ways of organizing. Abolitionist feminist frameworks must necessarily encompass economic justice, migrant justice, housing justice, and language justice to name a few. One strategy espoused by RCS builds worker power and the capacity for organizing towards the decriminalization of poverty, migration, and low-wage informal and sex work alike. For Asian migrant workers, the fight for justice is not only about the resources needed to live, sleep, and work safely, it is also about changing the deep-seated mix of paternalism and resentment that refuses to acknowledge Asian working-class communities to ability to make choices within constraints. Technology-facilitated gender-based violence (GBV) is a pervasive issue. Yet, most research focuses on high-income countries and few studies comprehensively summarize its prevalence, manifestations, and implications in the Global South. This scoping review sought to examine technology-facilitated GBV in low- and middle-income countries across Asia, specifically focusing on trends, common behaviors, and characteristics of perpetrators and survivors. A comprehensive search of peer-reviewed and gray literature published between 2006 and 2021 yielded 2,042 documents, of which 97 articles were included in the review. Across South and Southeast Asia, findings indicate that technology-facilitated GBV is a widespread phenomenon, with increased incidence during the COVID-19 pandemic. Technology-facilitated GBV comprises various forms of behaviors and prevalence varies by type of violence. Women, girls, and sexual and gender minorities, especially those with other intersecting marginalized identities, are often more vulnerable to experiencing online violence. Alongside these findings, the review revealed gaps in the literature including a lack of evidence from Central Asia and the Pacific Islands. There is also limited data on prevalence which we attribute to underreporting, in part due to disjointed, outdated, or nonexistent legal definitions. Findings from the study can be leveraged by key stakeholders such as researchers, practitioners, governments, and technology companies to develop prevention, response, and mitigation efforts. This article tracks contemporary debates surrounding human trafficking, sex slavery, and the slave trade, in which the specter of the Ottoman empire and its system of slavery—as well as other "Oriental" slave systems—emerge as templates for imagining the place of sex in slavery. At the same time, the authors highlight how Ottoman and "Oriental" slavery is largely considered irrelevant to the genealogy of present‐day racial capitalism. By contrast, the authors argue that considering historically parallel and entangled slave systems is important not just to accounts of modern‐day slavery but also for how we conceptualize the "racial" in racial capitalism and the "queer" and "of color" in queer of color critique. Ecumenical organizations have long agreed that human trafficking and modern slavery are consequences of human sin that, in the words of Pope Francis, have left "an open wound in the body of Christ and in all humanity." While the ecumenical consensus against human trafficking and other forms of modern slavery remains strong, the discourse lacks clear definitions and, thus, focused engagement. To enrich ecumenical reflection on these phenomena, the prevailing discourse could be reframed through the contextualized, case‐based, and comparative lens of asymmetrical dependency theory. Social workers play a pivotal part in the implementation of human trafficking policies, not least in identification of victims. When assessing who is and who is not a trafficking victim, boundaries are drawn between different groups of people and the human trafficking definition is operationalised. However, the actual practice of trafficking identification has not been sufficiently explored. The fundamental necessity of every society is the security of her citizens against internal and external aggression. A secured society promotes development and attracts investors thereby promoting socio -economic wellbeing of the citizen and building responsible and responsive citizens. The high rate of insecurity has denied Nigeria government and citizens of peaceful atmosphere and socio-economic prosperity is at the low ebb. The intermittent conflicts such as ethno religious, communal, insurgency, farmers – herdsmen conflict has weakened Nigeria security architecture. The emergence of ethnic militias and non-state actors contributed immensely to the insecurity in Nigeria. The complex security situation in Nigeria ranging from insurgency, ethno religious, oil theft, farmers- herdsmen, kidnapping, drug, and human trafficking coupled with the porous borders and associated criminal activities among others were critically examined and posed that socio-economic development and livelihood of Nigeria are at risk, except proactive measure designing to incorporate bottom- top approach, Nigeria will soon slide into failed or collapsed state.
