Objective: This study aimed to provide evidence for treatment credibility (TC) as a potential mechanism of change in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Therefore, it focused on within-person effects that are free of the influence of stable characteristics and thus allow to exclude certain alternative explanations for the association under study. Method: The sample included 1,423 patients receiving outpatient CBT, who presented a wide variety of psychiatric diagnoses (mostly affective and anxiety disorders). TC, depression, and anxiety were measured every fifth session from Session 5 to 25 using the Credibility Expectancy Questionnaire (CEQ), the Patient Health Questionnaire–9 (PHQ-9), and the General Anxiety Disorder–7 (GAD-7), respectively. Symptom severity was assessed every session using the Hopkins Symptom Checklist–11. Within- and between-person effects of TC, depression, and anxiety were analyzed using the latent curve model with structured residuals (LCM-SRs). In exploratory analyses, within-person effects of TC on next-session symptom severity were assessed using a modification of the LCM-SR. Results: LCM-SRs exhibited excellent fit in main analyses. There were significant negative correlations of both intercepts and slopes (between-person level) of CEQ and PHQ-9 as well GAD-7. No significant cross-lagged effects (within-person level) were found over the five-session interval. However, session-wise analyses revealed significant cross-lagged effects of CEQ on Hopkins Symptom Checklist–11. Conclusions: This study is the first to find significant within-person effects of TC in session-wise analyses. This lends preliminary support to the notion of TC as a mechanism of change. The lack of significant findings at the five-session interval is discussed considering the specific design used in this study. What is the public health significance of this article?: This study did not find significant effects for treatment credibility on symptoms of depression and anxiety at a time interval of five sessions. However, in exploratory analyses significant effects of treatment credibility on next-session symptom severity were found. Thus, this study provides only preliminary evidence that treatment credibility has a negative causal effect on patients' symptom severity, meaning an increase in the patients' perception of treatment credibility may lead to an improvement of symptom severity. While more research is needed to support the findings of this study, we suggest that therapists pay attention to how credible patients perceive their treatment during the course of treatment and act accordingly in therapy phases in which patients lose confidence in their treatment, for example, by discussing the treatment rational or changing the treatment approach according to their patients' treatment beliefs. Super-resolution (SR), a technique to increase the resolution of images, is a pre-processing step in the pipelines of applications of Earth observation (EO) data. The manual design and optimisation of SR models that are specific to every possible EO use case is a laborious process that creates a bottleneck for EO analysis. In this work, we develop an automated machine learning (AutoML) method to automate the creation of dataset-specific SR models. AutoML is the study of the automatic design of high-performance machine learning models. We present the following contributions. (i) We propose AutoSR4EO, an AutoML method for automatically constructing neural networks for SR. We design a search space based on state-of-the-art residual neural networks for SR and incorporate transfer learning. Our search space is extendable, making it possible to adapt AutoSR4EO to future developments in the field. (ii) We introduce a new real-world single-image SR (SISR) dataset, called SENT-NICFI. (iii) We evaluate the performance of AutoSR4EO on four different datasets against the performance of four state-of-the-art baselines and a vanilla AutoML SR method, with AutoSR4EO achieving the highest average ranking. Our results show that AutoSR4EO performs consistently well over all datasets, demonstrating that AutoML is a promising method for improving SR techniques for EO images. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The promises of vaccines based on virus-like particles stimulate demand for universal non-infectious virus-like platforms that can be efficiently grafted with large antigens. Here, we harnessed the modularity and extreme affinity of the decoration protein pb10 for the capsid of bacteriophage T5. SPR experiments demonstrated that pb10 fused to mCherry or to the model antigen ovalbumin (Ova) retained picomolar affinity for DNA-free T5 capsid-like particles (T5-CLPs), while cryo-EM studies attested to the full occupancy of the 120 capsid binding sites. Mice immunization with CLP-bound pb10-Ova chimeras elicited strong long-lasting anti-Ova humoral responses involving a large panel of isotypes, as well as CD8+ T cell responses, without any extrinsic adjuvant. Therefore, T5-CLP constitutes a unique DNA-free bacteriophage capsid able to display a regular array of large antigens through highly efficient chemical-free anchoring. It is well established that individuals with cognitive impairment present with disturbed forms of pain processing of still unknown origin. As a neurocognitive factor, executive functions have become favored candidates for explanation. For further insights, we aimed at comparing executive functions and memory in their association with parameters indicating onset and escalation of pain perception. Subjective ratings of experimentally induced pressure pain applied in ascending series were assessed in older individuals with (N = 32) and without mild cognitive impairments (MCI) (N = 32). We investigated whether executive functioning (Trail Making Test-B (TMT-B), semantic fluency) or memory (word list and figure recall) were more closely linked to the onset and the escalation of pain. For the MCI group, a strong linkage between pain responses and the TMT-B could be found, i.e., poor test performance was associated with weak pain onset but strong pain escalation. The contribution of memory functions was less substantial and systematic. The prominent role of executive function for pain processing in individuals with MCI could be replicated by a test of cognitive flexibility. This lack of adaptability let individuals with MCI be less vigilant to pain at the beginning but allows for escalating pain in the further course. Thus, being first not sufficiently prepared and later overwhelmed as regards pain may be an early problem in MCI individuals with reduced executive functioning.
