Science is full of overlooked and undervalued research waiting to be rediscovered. Proteomics is no exception. In this perspective, we follow the ripples from a 1960 study of Zuckerkandl, Jones, and Pauling comparing tryptic peptides across animal species. This pioneering work directly led to the molecular clock hypothesis and the ensuing explosion in molecular phylogenetics. In the decades following, proteins continued to provide essential clues on evolutionary history. While technology has continued to improve, contemporary proteomics has strayed from this larger biological context, rarely comparing species or asking how protein structure, function, and interactions have evolved. Here we recombine proteomics with molecular phylogenetics, highlighting the value of framing proteomic results in a larger biological context and how almost forgotten research, though technologically surpassed, can still generate new ideas and illuminate our work from a different perspective. Though it is infeasible to read all research published on a large topic, looking up older papers can be surprisingly rewarding when rediscovering a "gem" at the end of a long citation chain, aided by digital collections and perpetually helpful librarians. Proper literature study reduces unnecessary repetition and allows research to be more insightful and impactful by truly standing on the shoulders of giants. This article charts changes and continuities in the social work role in adoption since 1968. The Social Work (Scotland) Act 1968 established the Children’s Hearing System, Scotland’s unique approach to child welfare in which lay volunteers make decisions on compulsory intervention relating to children. Although the Act was not intended to reform adoption practice, it has had two major impacts. First, as adoption moved from ‘relinquishment’ to more complex and contested legal routes, the Children’s Hearing came to occupy an integral role in decision-making for children in need of care and protection. Secondly, since 1968, adoption has become understood as a resource for children who are unable to remain within their birth family or kinship networks. Using documentary analysis of adoption files and interviews with key informants, the research focused on three key periods: 1968, 1988 and 2014. The study found that fragmentation of the social work role has decreased the potential of adoption records to be a resource for adopted individuals curious about their origins and story. Paradoxically, over this period, there has been growing understanding of the identity needs of adopted people. Such unintended consequences suggest the need for more a thoughtful approach to adoption record keeping.

The purpose of this study was to develop learning materials and practice lessons for inquiry learning in the “Formation of and Changes in the Earth”in order to examine strategies for learning about natural disasters (earth-quakes) in junior high schools stricken by the Kumamoto Earthquake. As a result of practical study, the following were obtained; 1. Students used their knowledge they learned to analyze experimental results and interpret the materials. 2. Many students are able to explain the formation of the local earth from a historical perspective. 3. Through inquiry learning, students were able to think of earthquakes alongside other geological phenomena or from a historical perspective.

This article discusses how CIAM (Congrès Internationaux d’Architecture Moderne) influenced Dutch housing and urban planning. It starts by looking at programs and policies of the 1920s and 1930s Dutch housing design, and the way in which the new ideas of CIAM were there incorporated. In this history, the design of the AUP (Algemeen Uitbreidingsplan Amsterdam, or the General Extension Plan) is crucial, marking the transition into a new spatial model for large scale housing areas. CIAM thinking and its successor, TEAM X, strongly influenced the idea of the social-cultural city before and directly after WWII. This becomes evident in the urban extensions of Amsterdam and Rotterdam. This practice influenced urban planning and housing design and culminated during the 1970s in the design of the Bijlmermeer. Though legendary and still detectable in the urban developments of Amsterdam and Rotterdam, CIAM thinking came forward as both visionary and problematic. This article will trace the CIAM history in these two cities to depict concepts of innovation, but also continuities in modern housing design and planning practices by focusing on spatial models, typo-morphological transformations, and ideals vis- à-vis the urban public realm. In addition to relevant writings, typo-morphological maps, drawings and street photography also serve as tools of analysis and interpretation. The article will conclude with some future perspectives regarding the relationship between the CIAM legacy and contemporary urban issues.

Internal migration is one of the most important drivers for reducing poverty and facilitating economic development. However, the factors that affect population mobility within a country, as well as the relationship between internal migration and economic development, are difficult to understand. This paper aims to provide an analysis of the population mobility in Romania, so that one understands the relationship between the economic development and internal migration. In order to achieve this objective, official data provided by the National Institute of Statistics as well as various statistical and econometric techniques (simple regression, entropy) are used. The research led to three major findings: (i) the internal migratory process is characterized by 7 historical periods, highly related to the social, economic and political phenomena that shaped the Romanian history; (ii) economic development of a county and the internal migration inflows are highly dependent; (iii) internal migration flows concentrate towards just four counties: Bucharest, Timisoara, Cluj and Constanta, leading to major agglomerations. These findings are highly valuable for the decision makers at county level.

Growing concerns about long-run equilibrium in the oil market have focused on understanding the time path of oil consumption across countries. This study examines the convergence of oil consumption across the largest oil consumers. To this end, we employ the historical oil consumption data dating back to 1890 by benefiting from the newly proposed convergence concepts, including relative/club convergence and weak ?-convergence, in addition to the conventional ?-convergence notion. The empirical results provide new and insightful findings. First, considering common factors in the dynamics of oil consumption leads to convergence. Second, the overall evidence of absolute convergence has been at work among countries mainly before the great depression 1890–1929, while divergence occurs after the mid of 1990s. Third, the divergence observed over the last decades persists even after accounting for either a relative or weak form of convergence, supporting the primary role of the current dynamics in world oil markets. Divergence calls for stricter energy transition policies. Moreover, the clustering algorithm identifies unique convergent clubs, indicating that a unified energy policy is not tenable. © 2022 The Authors

RESUMO O artigo tem por objetivo explorar como o agenciamento das práticas representacionais presentes nas reportagens da revista A Lavoura produziu versões do mercado de produtos orgânicos no período 1990-2007. A publicação é editada pela Sociedade Nacional de Agricultura desde 1897 e que, em virtude de uma ampla distribuição, alcança sindicatos, universidades, centros de pesquisa, bibliotecas, empresas do agronegócio entre outros. Em termos teóricos, a pesquisa foi informada por conceitos vinculados aos Estudos Construtivistas de Mercado, desenvolvidos em marketing, e pela perspectiva histórica reorientacionista, desenvolvida no âmbito dos estudos organizacionais, para acessar versões do mercado localizadas no passado. O percurso metodológico foi constituído por um estudo de caso histórico de orientação indutiva e de corte longitudinal. Em decorrência do processo de análise, três versões hegemônicas para o mercado de produtos orgânicos foram produzidas ao longo do período considerado. Os resultados apontam para a existência de dinâmicas de inclusão e de marginalização de atores humanos e não-humanos presentes no processo de agenciamento das práticas representacionais e, por conseguinte, nas versões de mercado. Recomenda-se que essas dinâmicas sejam reconhecidas por pesquisas futuras interessadas em investigar questões ideológicas, sociais e de políticas públicas que cercam os processos de formação de mercado. ABSTRACT The purpose of this article is to explore how the agency of representational practices present in the magazine A Lavoura produced different organic market versions in the 1990-2007 period. Published by the Brazilian National Agriculture Society since 1897 and which, due to its wide distribution, reaches unions, universities, research centers, libraries, agribusiness companies, among others. In theoretical terms, a research was informed by the Constructivist Market Studies developed in marketing and by the historical re-orientationist perspective developed within the scope of organizational studies to access market versions located in the past. The methodological path consisted of a longitudinal historical case study with an inductive orientation. As a result of the analysis process, three hegemonic versions for the organic products market were produced over the period considered. The results point to the existence of dynamics of inclusion and marginalization of human and non-human actors present in the process of the agencement of representational practices and, therefore, in the market versions. It is recommended that these dynamics should be recognized by future research interested in investigating ideological, social and public policy issues that surround the processes of market formation. RESUMEN El propósito de este artículo es explorar cómo la agencia de prácticas representativas presente en la revista A Lavoura há producido diferentes versiones del mercado orgánico en el período 1990-2007. Publicado por la Sociedad Nacional de Agricultura de Brasil desde 1897 y que, por su amplia difusión, llega a sindicatos, universidades, centros de investigación, bibliotecas, empresas agroindustriales, entre otros. En términos teóricos, la presente investigación fue informada por los Estudios Constructivistas de Mercado desarrollados en marketing y por la perspectiva histórica reorientacionista desarrollada en el ámbito de los estudios organizacionales para acceder a versiones de mercado ubicadas en el pasado. El recorrido metodológico consistió en un estudio de caso histórico longitudinal con orientación inductiva. Como resultado del proceso de análisis, durante el período considerado se produjeron tres versiones hegemónicas para el mercado de productos orgánicos. Los resultados apuntan a la existencia de dinámicas de inclusión y marginación de actores humanos y no humanos presentes en el proceso de agenciamiento de prácticas representacionales y, por tanto, en las versiones de mercado. Se recomienda que estas dinámicas sean reconocidas por futuras investigaciones interesadas en investigar los temas ideológicos, sociales y de políticas públicas que rodean los procesos de formación de mercados.

We review concepts involved in describing the chemodynamic features of nanoparticles and apply the framework to gain physicochemical insights into interactions between SARS-CoV-2 virions and airborne particulate matter (PM). Our analysis is highly pertinent given that the World Health Organisation acknowledges that SARS-CoV-2 may be transmitted by respiratory droplets, and the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention recognises that airborne transmission of SARS-CoV-2 can occur. In our theoretical treatment, the virion is assimilated to a core-shell nanoparticle, and contributions of various interaction energies to the virion-PM association (electrostatic, hydrophobic, London-van der Waals, etc.) are generically included. We review the limited available literature on the physicochemical features of the SARS-CoV-2 virion and identify knowledge gaps. Despite the lack of quantitative data, our conceptual framework qualitatively predicts that virion-PM entities are largely able to maintain equilibrium on the timescale of their diffusion towards the host cell surface. Comparison of the relevant mass transport coefficients reveals that virion biointernalization demand by alveolar host cells may be greater than the diffusive supply. Under such conditions both the free and PM-sorbed virions may contribute to the transmitted dose. This result points to the potential for PM to serve as a shuttle for delivery of virions to host cell targets. Thus, our critical review reveals that the chemodynamics of virion-PM interactions may play a crucial role in the transmission of COVID-19, and provides a sound basis for explaining reported correlations between episodes of air pollution and outbreaks of COVID-19., Graphical abstract Unlabelled Image

Методологической основой исследования применительно к БР как геополитической системе являются политико-географические представления о геополитических периодах (докапиталистическом, капиталистическом и современном) и геополитических эпохах в развитии политической карты мира как глобальной геополитической системы, различающиеся по характеру геополитических процессов, непосредственно меняющих геополитические системы глобального, регионального и государственного масштаба, This paper aims to analyse the historical dynamic of Russia’s role in the Baltic Region (BR) and the role of BR countries for Russia. The location and role of a country, including Russia, in the region is considered as the result of various geopolitical, economical, mercantile, ethnic and religious (confessional), humanitarian, other factors, and the geopolitical and geoeconomical position of a country. Methodologically, it is grounded in the political and geographic conception of geopolitical periods (precapitalistic, capitalistic and modern) and geopolitical ages that affect the development of the political map as a global geopolitical system, are differentiated by various geopolitical processes that change geopolitical systems of global, regional and nation-wide scales.

A historical review of the origins of holography is presented. Special emphasis is placed on the contributions of Gabor, Denisyuk and Leith to the development of holography, to motivate and inspire students and young researchers.
