Abstract

A re-examination of the day-of-the-week effect for 11 indexes from nine countries during the 1969-1992 period found returns to be lower at the beginning of the week, though not necessarily on Monday, for the entire period in consideration, using the standard and the moving average methodologies. However, this trend disappears for the most recent period in the US. It continues to be strong for European countries, Hong Kong and Toronto.

Abstract

The electromagnetic analysis involved in magnetic resonance imaging scanners is becoming more challenging. The wavelength of the RF-pulse is continuously decreasing as the static magnetic field is increased, looking for an enhancement of the MRI performance. The scanners are getting more complex as they are now composed of multiple receiving and transmitting antennas. Furthermore, the inclusion of metamaterials and metasurfaces are nowadays under study, looking for an homogenization of the RF magnetic fields. Efficient and accurate electromagnetic tools for the analysis and design of complex High-Field and Ultra High-Field MRI antennas is required. In this work, an efficient analysis tool based on the method of moments and on the array scanning method is proposed. Fully representative designs are studied, and results are compared with commercial software.

Abstract

A new tetranuclear complex is synthesized and characterized in which the metal ions in two Cp(sub 2)Mo(sub 2)(micro-SR)(sub 3) units are coordinated to a single micro4-sulfido ligand. The stability of the tetranuclear product is a striking demonstration of the high affinity of Mo(III) and Mo(IV) ions for bridging sulfido ligands.

International audience; The SPIRAL1 facility at GANIL produces radioactive ions beams (RIB) since 2001. Target Ion SourceSystems (TISS) employed are exposed to severe dose rates, requiring both simple and radiation hardtechnologies. Moreover, the production is performed in a Nuclear Installation Plant, where all theprocesses must cope with constraining safety rules. Once the TISS is irradiated by primary beamsof heavy ions, the dose rate, the activation level and the potential contamination in the surroundingof the TISS make the access and the maintenance prohibited. All parts of the production systemmust thus be highly reliable. An important process for the preparation, operation and recycling ofthe TISS has been developed to minimize the failure probability and optimize the availability of thebeam for the users.

Abstract

International audience; The 1+/n+ method, early developed at the LPSC laboratory, is implemented at GANIL forthe production of radioactive ion beams as well as for studying the production of intensestable metallic beams.Regarding radioactive ion beam production, the SPIRAL1 charge breeder has been installedin the midst of the SPIRAL1 LEBT. Many modifications of the beam line and the ancillarieshave been done to host the charge breeder. The first beam of 40Ar was extracted during Maydemonstrating a distribution peaked on the 9+ charge state with 16% in particle of ionizationefficiency.Concerning stable ion beam production, the GTS ion source, providing stable ion beam forthe ARIBE facility, is under modification to include a charge breeding capability. The ideais to test the 1+/n+ method as an additional particle injection technique to produce highintensity metallic beam. Due to its high global efficiency (around 50%) and narrower chargestate distribution, this technique has to be investigated to compete in numerous cases withthe conventional methods: oven – sputtering – MIVOC.This contribution will present preliminary results of the SPIRAL1 charge breeder set in itsfinal location (SPIRAL1 facility) as well as the description of the 1+/n+ test bench for theproduction of intense metallic ion beam.

Abstract

International audience; Lignocellulosic materials from municipal solid waste emerge as attractive resources for anaerobic digestion biorefinery.To increase the knowledge required for establishing efficient bioprocesses, dynamics of batch fermentation by the cellulolytic bacterium Ruminiclostridium cellulolyticum were compared using three cellulosic materials, paper handkerchief, cotton discs and Whatman filter paper. Fermentation of paper handkerchief occurred the fastest and resulted in a specific metabolic profile: it resulted in the lowest acetate-to-lactate and acetate-to-ethanol ratios. By shotgun proteomic analyses of paper handkerchief and Whatman paper incubations, 151 proteins with significantly different levels were detected, including 20 of the 65 cellulosomal components, 8 non-cellulosomal CAZymes and 44 distinct extracytoplasmic proteins. Consistent with the specific metabolic profile observed, many enzymes from the central carbon catabolic pathways had higher levels in paper handkerchief incubations. Among the quantified CAZymes and cellulosomal components, 10 endoglucanases mainly from the GH9 families and 7 other cellulosomal subunits had lower levels in paper handkerchief incubations. An in-depth characterization of the materials used showed that the lower levels of endoglucanases in paper handkerchief incubations could hypothetically result from its lower crystallinity index (50%) and degree of polymerization (970). By contrast, the higher hemicellulose rate in paper handkerchief (13.87%) did not result in the enhanced expression of enzyme with xylanase as primary activity, including enzymes from the ªxyl-docº cluster. It suggests the absence, in this material, of molecular structures that specifically lead to xylanase induction. The integrated approach developed in this work shows that subtle differences among cellulosic materials regarding chemical and structural characteristics have significant effects on expressed bacterial functions, in particular the cellulolysis machinery, resulting in different metabolic patterns and degradation dynamics.

398. Wnt-controlled sphingolipids modulate Anthrax Toxin Receptor palmitoylation to regulate oriented mitosis in zebrafish.

Abstract

Oriented cell division is a fundamental mechanism to control asymmetric stem cell division, neural tube elongation and body axis extension, among other processes. During zebrafish gastrulation, when the body axis extends, dorsal epiblast cells display divisions that are robustly oriented along the animal-vegetal embryonic axis. Here, we use a combination of lipidomics, metabolic tracer analysis and quantitative image analysis to show that sphingolipids mediate spindle positioning during oriented division of epiblast cells. We identify the Wnt signaling as a regulator of sphingolipid synthesis that mediates the activity of serine palmitoyltransferase (SPT), the first and rate-limiting enzyme in sphingolipid production. Sphingolipids determine the palmitoylation state of the Anthrax receptor, which then positions the mitotic spindle of dividing epiblast cells. Our data show how Wnt signaling mediates sphingolipid-dependent oriented division and how sphingolipids determine Anthrax receptor palmitoylation, which ultimately controls the activation of Diaphanous to mediate spindle rotation and oriented mitosis. During development, oriented cell division is important to proper body axis extension. Here, the authors show that sphingolipids are required to direct spindle rotation and oriented mitosis via Anthrax receptor palmitoylation in zebrafish gastrulation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Since 2001, the SPIRAL 1 facility has been one of the pioneering facilities in ISOL techniques for re-accelerating radioactive ion beams: the fragmentation of the heavy ion beams of GANIL on graphite targets and subsequent ionization in the Nanogan ECR ion source has permitted to deliver beams of gaseous elements (He, N, O, F, Ne, Ar, Kr) to numerous experiments. Thanks to the CIME cyclotron, energies up to 20 AMeV could be obtained. In 2014, the facility was stopped to undertake a major upgrade, with the aim to extend the production capabilities of SPIRAL 1 to a number of new elements. This upgrade, which is presently under commissioning, consists in the integration of an ECR booster in the SPIRAL 1 beam line to charge breed the beam of different 1+ sources. A FEBIAD source (the so-called VADIS from ISOLDE) was chosen to be the future workhorse for producing many metallic ion beams. This source was coupled to the SPIRAL 1 graphite targets and tested on-line with different beams at GANIL. The charge breeder is an upgraded version of the Phoenix booster which was previously tested in ISOLDE. It was recently commissioned at LPSC and lately in the SPIRAL 1 beam lines with stable beams. The upgrade additionally permits the use of other target material than graphite. In particular, the use of fragmentation targets will permit to produce higher intensities than from projectile fragmentation, and thin targets of high Z will be used for producing beams by fusion-evaporation. The performances of the aforementioned ingredients of the upgrade (targets, 1+ source and charge breeder) have been and are still being optimized in the frame of different European projects (EMILIE, ENSAR and ENSAR2). The upgraded SPIRAL 1 facility will provide soon its first new beams for physics and further beam development are undertaken to prepare for the next AGATA campaign. 400. Perisuspensory abscessation in eight horses with hindlimb cellulitis.

Abstract

Summary: This study reports a distinct presentation of cellulitis, which involved formation of perisuspensory abscessation in eight horses. Medical records of horses presented for cellulitis unresponsive to medical treatment were reviewed. Cases in which perisuspensory abscesses were diagnosed were included. All abscesses formed between the cannon bone and suspensory ligament and extended around one or both suspensory branches. Abscesses were diagnosed via ultrasonography upon admission in three horses and developed within a few days following admission in five horses. All horses were treated with broad‐spectrum antibiotics, anti‐inflammatories, topical therapies and regional limb perfusions; however, only partial improvement of clinical signs was observed with medical therapy alone. Full resolution of clinical signs was obtained in all cases once the abscess was surgically lanced and drained. The surgical drainage was performed standing in seven cases and under general anaesthesia in one. In all cases, Staphylococcus aureus was cultured. Six out of eight isolates showed at least some level of antibiotic resistance, and penicillin and trimethoprim sulfonamides were most commonly involved. Short‐term complications included skin necrosis in two cases and mild impaction colic in two cases and were successfully treated. All horses were discharged from the hospital within 4–13 days and were sound upon discharge. All Thoroughbreds (n = 7) were able to return to their intended use, and the Standardbred was unraced prior to the cellulitis event and remained unraced afterwards. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
