This little device may be of interest to those who remove the tonsil by means of the finger-nail, or to those who avoid the finger-nail method, solely from fear of the resultant trauma. It is in principle merely a very strong finger-nail, which can be made as sharp as desired and freely modified as to shape and length. A simple way of making it is to take an ordinary thimble of a size which loosely fits the middle finger, and which is, therefore, very loose for the index-finger on which it is to be used. A hole is filed in the top of the thimble and this enlarged until, with the exception of a lateral projection about the size and shape of a finger-nail, about half the thimble has been cut away.
