We’ve already seen how to print something almost anywhere on the screen in any color we like through the use of the PRINT command. But the VIC can do the same thing with the POKE command as well.

Many years ago, Dr. Charles Schepens devised a system of sketching the fundus as a way of recording the findings on indirect ophthalmoscopy with scleral depression. This technique has served as an invaluable aid in improving our comprehension and overall understanding of retinal diseases as well as planning vitreoretinal surgery in specific patients.

The use of color to indicate the strength of returned echoes on a real-time basis has proved to be clinically valuable. This equipment provides high resolution and wide dynamic range, both of which increase the amount of information obtained during the examination of a patient.

The color code obtained during image hologram reconstruction is a function of the source's spectral emission, the colour distribution obtained depends on the particular geometry used on the recording step. The recording geometry employed in this work involves several reference beams, at different angles, and sectional illumination of the object, using a slit during the recording step. We shall analize the parameters involved in recording 3-D scenes such that a color depth code is inscribed in the hologram.

The constituent parts of a quantum computer are inherently vulnerable to errors. To this end, we have developed quantum error-correcting codes to protect quantum information from noise. However, discovering codes that are capable of a universal set of computational operations with the minimal cost in quantum resources remains an important and ongoing challenge. One proposal of significant recent interest is the gauge color code. Notably, this code may offer a reduced resource cost over other well-studied fault-tolerant architectures by using a new method, known as gauge fixing, for performing the non-Clifford operations that are essential for universal quantum computation. Here we examine the gauge color code when it is subject to noise. Specifically, we make use of single-shot error correction to develop a simple decoding algorithm for the gauge color code, and we numerically analyse its performance. Remarkably, we find threshold error rates comparable to those of other leading proposals. Our results thus provide the first steps of a comparative study between the gauge color code and other promising computational architectures.

Topological error correction codes are promising candidates to protect quantum computations from the deteriorating effects of noise. While some codes provide high noise thresholds suitable for robust quantum memories, others allow straightforward gate implementation needed for data processing. To exploit the particular advantages of different topological codes for fault-tolerant quantum computation, it is necessary to be able to switch between them. Here we propose a practical solution, subsystem lattice surgery, which requires only two-body nearest-neighbor interactions in a fixed layout in addition to the indispensable error correction. This method can be used for the fault-tolerant transfer of quantum information between arbitrary topological subsystem codes in two dimensions and beyond. In particular, it can be employed to create a simple interface, a quantum bus, between noise resilient surface code memories and flexible color code processors.

Using the information regarding critical events to support decision making in Intensive Care Units would be useful. However it is seldom used in real settings as the information regarding those critical events is difficult to gather and make available in real time. The most usual procedures record only those events that are related to errors. This paper presents a solution to obtain critical events from clinical data. From data collected using an automatic and real-time data acquisition system it is possible to calculate the critical events regarding five variables that are usually monitored in an ICU. These results are presented to the medical and nursing staff in a friendly and intuitive mode. Using a color code our system provides visual warnings related to the evolution of the monitored variables values. The effect of redundant color coding on keeping-track performance was investigated, using symbols as the primary cue. Ss were assigned to one of four coding conditions: symbol color (SC), color symbol (CS), symbol only (S), or color only (C). Performance was measured on a task requiring S to monitor eight information channels, which were being updated randomly. Results indicated that the addition of a redundant color code did not yield a significant improvement in performance, as compared to performance on the component codes (i.e., the S and C groups).

Combined color and texture techniques provide new, useful features for blood cell analysis. After scene segmentation, texture line following programs define the borders of textons, the smallest texture grains. Size, color, and shape features are then calculated for each texton. The final feature data set includes: (1) The nucleus and cytoplasm features: size and shape, measurements of the texture lines from the green TV image, average CIE-PAL color coordinates and a color code. (2) The new texton features: total number of texton pixels with a specific color code, mean texton radius, size for each color code, and texton shape factors.

An algorithm for filling irregular polygons is presented. It is designed to operate in raster mode and uses the refresh memory of a graphic display as working space. The algorithm has been implemented in a host computer but it can be implemented easily within the microprocessor controlling the display. All areas contoured by closed lines are shaded at the same time according to a preassigned color code.

The author has developed a minicourse for school teachers on how they can include acoustics in their teaching of science, with particular emphasis on musical sounds. The organizing theme is the direct, hands‐on accessibility of many basic ideas in this area. The course is divided into three units: (1) simple vibrators, covering ideas about pitch, frequency, mass, and stiffness; (2) vibrators with several natural frequencies, presenting concepts of standing waves, nodes, and techniques for manipulating the sounds from such a vibrator; and (3) sound waves themselves, with emphasis on the wind instruments. An important part of each unit is the “dessert”—a simple musical toy whose operation illustrates the ideas discussed: (1) a seven‐note, pentatonic thumb harp (African sansa or kalimba) constructed from materials indigenous to the American shopping center; (2) a tromba marina (bowed monochord), also built from cheap, readily available materials; and (3) a “flugle”—a closed/open cylindrical whistle on which bugle calls can be played. A color code for pitch makes it easy for beginners to play familiar tunes.
