The paper addresses the issue of legal custody of minor children after divorce in a context of increasing diversity of parental practices. We present a socio-legal framework that currently exists in Spain and Catalonia around the legal entity and practice of shared custody. Judiciary data obtained from INE on “Decrees of annulments, separations and divorces” are analyzed for Catalonia and other Spanish regions (2007-2012). The results highlight the uniqueness of Catalonia in the context of the Spanish State with the highest levels of divorce, fewer disputed judgements and higher rates of shared custody. We conclude that the sharp increase in shared custody could be due to the adaptation of the judicial practices to new models of co-parenting before divorce. This raises the need for qualitative research to study the real impact of shared custody on the daily lives of children and their parents, as we construe that shared custody agreements contain diverse and complex situations that are created after divorce.

Concluímos, também, que existe uma relação positiva entre a dimensão integração familiar/afetividade e o apoio social prestado pelo cônjuge; Co-parenting in families with children caring disabilities Abstract: Co-parenting concept refers to the way how parenting figures work jointly their parenting roles (Sifuentes & Bosa, 2010). The primary goal of this investigation was to study the quality of collaboration between parents, as well as understand de social network of families with children caring disabilities. In the present study toke part 55 parents (n=55) with sons caring disabilities, from the North and the South of the country. They answered to scales - McHale Co-parenting Scale and a Social Support Scale. The main results found sugest that co-parenting is more positive when the couple lives in a marital situation and when there is only one child. We have also concluded that there is a positive correlation between the dimension regarding familiar/afectivity integration and social support provided by the spouse.

- Abstract
Fathers play a critical role in recognizing and responding to maternal depression and providing support to the family during the mothers' illness and recovery. Our study adopted a dualmethod approach consisting initially of sample interviewing with 10 Mexican immigrant fathers, about their partner's depression and recovery, co-parenting, and fathers' coping. Fathers, their partners, and children participated in a family intervention to support the mother's recovery and address the needs of the family. Approximately 12 months from sample interviews and 8 months after the intervention, we conducted in-depth case studies with three of those fathers to explore how their recognition, support, and coping evolved. Results from interviews across time points present fathers' initial and evolving understanding of maternal depression, while a case study example reflects how fathers' recognition of their partners' depression changed, as did their marital and family interactions, as they shifted attribution of their partners' depression from a controllable state to one of illness. Receipt of accurate information about depression increased fathers' recognition of depression and allowed them to expand traditional gender norms to take an active role in supporting their partners and children. Fathers' experiences were not without emotional cost, with many men recounting anxiety, shame, loneliness, and helplessness. This study underscores the importance of including fathers in interventions and research on maternal depression in immigrant families, and it offers recommendations for culturally grounded familyfocused, interventions.

- Abstract
Parental factors contribute to ADHD, partly in an etiological way and partly as moderators and mediators of child outcomes and treatment effects. An important aspect of parenting seems to be parental reflective functioning (PRF), defined as the parent's capacity to reflect upon his own and his child's internal mental experience. The studies on parenting factors linked to ADHD have not extensively investigated the role of PRF. Recent findings on interventions have begun to consider mentalization to promote empathy and emotion regulation in parents, but empirical studies assessing PRF are still scarce. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to compare specific familial and parental functioning characteristic between parents of children with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and parents of controls without ADHD. A clinical sample of 41 children with ADHD aged 8-11 years and their parents was compared with a matched, non-clinical sample of 40 children. Three aspects of parental functioning were investigated: parental symptomatology, parental alliances and PRF; children's differences in strength and difficulty profiles were also assessed. The results showed that families of children with ADHD had lower socioeconomic status, and both mothers and fathers of the same families reported higher scores for depression and lower PRF than did the control group; only mothers showed lower parental alliance. Logistic regression highlighted the fact that several of these familial and parental factors contributed to the increased risk of belonging to the clinical group, specifically both mothers' and fathers' depressive symptoms and lower PRF. These data represent new findings with potentially meaningful clinical implications for both assessment and intervention., (Copyright © 2019 Mazzeschi, Buratta, Germani, Cavallina, Ghignoni, Margheriti and Pazzagli.)

Having and raising children can be a source of joy for parents. However, the transition to parenthood is associated with a certain degree of strain and stress, and couple relationship quality often declines during the transition. Coparenting, the shared responsibility of childrearing, benefits both parents and children and is an important aspect of the transition to parenthood. In this quasi-experimental study, we aimed to develop a couple education program in Japan that focuses on coparenting among couples expecting their first child. Twenty-one healthy couples voluntarily participated in the intervention group (n = 16) or the control group (n = 5). Couples in each group could voluntarily participate in standard childbirth education classes. The intervention was a couple education program designed to enhance coparenting and consisted of two interactive classes, including discussions within each couple and watching a short video showing an example of childrearing. We collected outcome measures on childrearing, couple relationship, parental mental health, and child adjustment at 1 month and 3 months after childbirth. Multiple regression analysis was performed and showed positive effects of the intervention on childrearing and child adjustment. Being in the intervention group had a significant positive effect on Coparenting Support scores at 1 month after childbirth (β = 0.457, p < 0.003, R
2 = 0.187) and Soothability scores for child adjustment at 3 months after childbirth (β =0.429, p < 0.006, R2 = 0.157). In conclusion, we have developed the prenatal education program focusing on coparenting for Japanese couples.- Published

357. Is Variation in Biological and Residential Ties to Children Linked to Mothers' Parental Stress and Perceptions of Coparenting?

- Abstract
Mothers with children from prior relationships or with stepchildren may perceive greater challenges in parenting than their counterparts in less complex families. We use the Families and Relationships Study (FRS) to analyze parental stress and perceptions of co-parenting among cohabiting and married mothers with resident minor children (N = 679). Compared to mothers with only shared children, parental stress and perceptions of co-parenting generally do not differ when mothers have children from prior unions. However, mothers with resident stepchildren evaluate the distribution of childcare as less fair, consider their partners as less reliable co-parents, and rate their partner more poorly as a co-parent relative to those with no stepchildren. These findings suggest that creating a stepfamily through one's own children may not present additional parenting challenges or stressors whereas having stepchildren introduced through a partner may be linked to a different, and less positive, parenting experience.

child development ,support ,mixed methods ,parenting ,collaboration ,co-parenting - Abstract
The majority of children in the UK live in households with two parents, yet most of the academic research on parenting focuses on the relationship between one parent and one child. More often than not, this one parent has been the mother. There is an expectation of father involvement in contemporary parenting, but the literature still tends to emphasise parenting as a one parent-one child interaction, measuring involvement of the father in terms of time spent with his child. The idea of collaboration, or collaborative parenting, drawing on research into coparenting in the US, considers the involvement of both parents with each other, with respect to the child, as an alternative way of conceptualising parental involvement. Collaboration is considered a useful concept, as it goes beyond the idea of parenting as being about time spent directly with the child. Unlike many factors which may predict child outcomes, a lack of collaboration could be addressed at the family level, through counselling or education. The aims of the research were to develop an understanding of the way in which parents work together, looking in particular at how this is affected by social support; whether there are associations between parental collaboration and the availability of time for family and leisure activities, and feelings about the balance between work and home life; whether parents who collaborate are more likely to adhere to expert advice on parenting matters; and whether there are associations with a child’s social, emotional and behavioural development. Emphasis was also placed on the methodology, as it entailed the development of a method for measuring the concept of collaboration, using data that was not designed for the purpose. The research was conducted through a combination of methods, comprising secondary analysis of data from the first four sweeps of the Growing Up in Scotland (GUS) study, and the conduct and analysis of 20 pairs of semi-structured interviews with parents who had previously taken part in this study. A condition of the funding received from the Scottish Government was to make use of the GUS data. The research found social support affected the process of collaboration in a number of ways: by enabling collaboration to take place; by removing the need for collaboration; by increasing the time available to collaborative couples; and by removing the need to plan ahead. Of particular note were the problems that were more likely to occur when couples neither collaborated, nor had support from outside the home. These are the couples who find that work impacts on their family the most. They are also the ones who are least likely to have time away from their children to do something for their own interest, and are the ones who are most likely to find it difficult to access advice. Collaborative couples tended to find more time available for activities with their children, as well as time for themselves. Positive associations were demonstrated between collaboration and a child’s social, emotional and behavioural development, but the strength of the association was not equal in all situations. When the mother was employed full-time, relatively strong associations were evident. When she was not in employment, and a number of other risk factors were present, relatively strong associations could again be seen. However, when the mother worked part-time, there did not appear to be any association between child behavioural development and collaboration. Associations were also demonstrated with the work-life balance of parents. Collaborative fathers professed less of an impact of the family on their work than non-collaborative ones. Similarly, collaborative fathers were less likely to say that long hours impacted on the time they had with their children than non-collaborative fathers, but there was no equivalent association for mothers. The impact of work on family was more likely to be lower for both parents when they acted collaboratively.

Absentee fathers ,youth personhood ,co-parenting - Abstract
A substantial body of research has consistently concluded that children growing up with absentee fathers are at an increased risk of maladjustment. This paper argues that co-parenting can have both direct and indirect or mediated effects on children. Co-parenting has an added benefit of modelling dyadic skills that include proving mutual emotional support, influence, and amicable resolution of disputes. Through qualitative data obtained in 2009 from 45 final year students at the University of Botswana, the authors conclude that African personhood is a larger-than-self conception, which also includes more than the physical being and shows that young people raised in father-absent familiesview their personhood as inferior, less guarded, and incomplete, relative to that of their counterparts who were born and raised in married-couple families. Living a full quality life eludes youth who were raised by mothers only, affirming the importance of fathers in the personhood of any individual.Key Words: Absentee fathers; youth personhood; co-parenting

The families formed by same-sex couples have become an important topic of the social, political and intellectual debate in France. In this article, I argue that same-sex families express historical trends that have significantly changed the organization of family relations in France. From a survey of French homosexual fathers, this article analyzes the specificities of gay and lesbian co-parenting, which consists in agreements for the generation of children that will be raised separately by the father (s) and the mother (s). After the analyses of the particularities of the parental project, the contours of the family and the experience of fatherhood, I propose a brief discussion about the limits of an exclusive filiation model.

Finalmente assumimos uma inovação conceptual de que essa transição familiar pode significar uma oportunidade de crescimento e de promoção desenvolvimental., Objective: Current theoretical and empirical evidences about the impact and the factors associated with the impact of parents’ separation/divorce in children’s adjustment were related and examined. Method: An aggregative literature review was made, using the keywords “divorce adjustment”, “child divorce” e “divorce impact”, from the databases JSTOR, PsycInfo, SciELO, and Medline and from reference books. Results: Child unadaptive and adaptive responses are described, as well as potential positive results. Mediators and moderators factors of the impact of parents’ separation/divorce in children’s adjustment often referenced in literature are mainly discussed. Among these are: characteristics of children, financial problems, parents’ psychopathological symptoms, quality of parenting practices and inter-parental conflict. Discussion: Based on the existing results, and considering the divorce as a developmental transition, we put a hypothesis that adjustment problems showed by children’s of divorce can be better explained by other factors than the divorce/separation by itself. Finally we assume a conceptual innovation that this familiar transition can represent a growth opportunity and developmental promotion.

- Abstract
Depression is a serious mental illness that affects millions of people. Depression can cause severe life impairment and is associated with numerous life threatening risk factors. Though treatment of depression is important, prevention is ideal. Therefore, it is important to understand associated risk and protective factors of depression. Several factors may precede the development of depression in young adulthood. This study sought to better understand the role of temperament, parent-child attachment relationships, and child reported co-parenting quality on the development of depressive symptoms in young adults between the ages of 18 and 22. Previous studies have suggested that some temperament traits including negative affect, positive affect, and effortful control may be related to depression. Additionally, research has also suggested that parent child attachment is associated and predictive of depression as well. This study was also interested in how co-parenting and depression are related. Co-parenting is the relationship quality of how two individuals work together to raise a child, which may be supportive or undermining. Past research has shown conflicting results as to whether co-parenting quality may influence the development of depressive symptoms (e.g., Feinberg et al., 2007; Forehand & Jones, 2003). However, this study expected that conflict co-parenting and unsupportive co-parenting would be related to depressive symptoms. Hierarchical multiple regression was used to test the hypothesis that temperament, attachment, and co-parenting are each predictive of depression. Results indicated that though temperament, attachment, and co-parenting are all separately correlated and predictive of depression, attachment and co-parenting fail to account for additional significant variance in depression when accounting for temperament.

Co-parenting implies an interplay of roles that is related to the child global care, and involves parents' joint responsibility for the child well being. It was carried a qualitative study with separated\divorced fathers and mothers, focusing on the theme of education and co-parenting after divorce. The results pointed to the importance of connubial relations and parents-children bonds in the exercise of co-parenting. Moreover, co-parenting is also crossed over by cohabitation, parents and children's gender and the financial conditions of the progenitors. In this study, as compared to the literature, fathers were more participative or willing to participate in the education of their children, and mothers were more satisfied with the guard of their children and less guilty of their choices, thus demonstrating new post-divorce scenery.

Parental involvement has long understood as a fundamental key in children success, many studies try to understand status variables and psychological variables associated with parental involvement. In this study we examined the relation between parents` role construction and parents` involvement practices, we also analyze the association between status variables, gender and parents` educational level, and parents` role construction and parents` involvement practices. Other goal of this study was to assess if parental responsibility in educational tasks varied with gender. We obtained survey responses from 145 fathers and mothers of students in grades 5º and 6º. Results showed a relation between parents` role construction and parents` involvement practices. Parents` involvement practices include social and cultural mediation, communication about school, schoolwork support and participation in school and extra-school events. Gender was related with schoolwork support practice. In the other way, parents` educational level was related with communication about school practice. Finally, regarding the distribution of the responsibilities in educational tasks we found that, overall, there is a shared responsibility between the parental figures.

- Abstract
Studies about the effectiveness of psychodynamic psychotherapy interventions with children and adolescents suggest potential adverse effects of this treatment when not supported by a parallel work with parents: it seems that it could damage family functioning and affect family balances. This research aims to assess psychopathological outcomes after two years of psychodynamic psychotherapy by comparing two groups (G) of children and adolescents, related to a Childhood Adolescence Family Service: G1 - individual therapy for child/adolescent only; G2 - therapy for child/adolescent and a separate session of co-parenting support. 21 families with children aged between 6 and 17 years completed the entire treatment. The research protocol involves: Lausanne Trilogue Play, Children Behavior Check List and Family Empowerment Scale. Results show a positive effect of the treatment on the child/adolescent psychopathological profile with a significant improvement concerning the reduction of both internalizing and externalizing problems. Results show the effectiveness of the integrated intervention in the improvement of parents' abilities to validate the children emotional state. Our results suggesting that parenting support increase parental sensitivity, helping the parents to become more able to recognize the children's emotional state and to validate it., Competing Interests: Conflict of interest: the authors declare no potential conflict of interest., (©Copyright M. - Abstract
English: The effect of divorce on children has, since the 1970s, received much attention in the literature. Factors that influence children’s coping within this context have also been widely investigated and reported on. Considering that statistics indicate that there has been an increase of over 300% in the number of children that have been involved in divorces since 1970 to date in South Africa, it is of extreme importance that children’s coping, and that which assists them in coping with the impact of their parents’ divorce, is explored within the South African context. The divorce of a child’s parents has been taken to be one of the most stressful events with which a child may have to cope. It is not surprising that it has been found that children are negatively impacted upon by divorce. Divorce has been found to influence children emotionally, academically, socially and even physically. While the effects have been researched extensively the results have over time proven to be somewhat contradictory. This has in the last decade resulted in an international resurgence in interest into the effects of divorce on children. It has been suggested that children are not always negatively impacted upon by their parents’ divorce and do not necessarily show long-term negative sideeffects. Furthermore, in investigating children’s coping with their parents’ divorce it was found there was a need to explore the ways in which children cope with this phenomenon specifically from the children’s perspective. Previous studies have relied largely on adults’ perspectives on children’s coping. From a phenomenological perspective this study employed a grounded theory methodology, in order to allow the data from interviews with forty one children from white, middle-class families to elucidate their perspectives enabling a new understanding of children’s coping within the context of divorce to be developed.

- Abstract
The impact of conflict on co-parenting outcomes of divorce education programs is not widely explored in the literature despite the prevalence of conflict in divorce. This study used outcome data from a sample of participants (N=272) who took the online Parents Forever™ course between 2012 and 2014. Participants were asked questions about positive and negative co-parenting behaviors as well their levels of conflict before and after the divorce or separation. There was on average a slight increase in conflict from post to follow-up (M=-0.397, SD=1.54). Simple linear regression analyses indicated that change in conflict explained a significant proportion of the variance in positive co-parenting scores, R
2 =0.07, F(1, 270)=19.98, p<0.001 and negative co-parenting scores, R2 =0.08, F(1, 270)=23.78, p<0.001. Results suggest that conflict significantly impacts co-parenting behaviors targeted in the Parents Forever ™ course., (Copyright © 2017 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.)- Published

- Abstract
Research is increasingly pointing to the importance of extending the focus of childhood obesity intervention to include fathers, fathering figures, and other members of a child's primary parenting network. Advances in communication technology are now making it possible to achieve this aim, within current resources, using modalities such text messaging, web-based resources and apps that extend intervention to parents not in attendance at face to face interactions. However, published research is often unclear as to which parent/s they targeted or engaged with, whether interventions planned to influence behaviours and capabilities across family systems, and how this can be achieved. As childhood obesity research employing information technology to engage with family systems takes hold it is becoming important for researchers clearly describe who they engage with, what they hope to achieve with them, and the pathways of influence that they aim to activate. This paper integrates extant knowledge on family systems thinking, parenting efficacy, co-parenting, and family intervention with the way parents are represented and reported in childhood obesity research. The paper concludes with recommendations on terminology that can be used to describe parents and parenting figures in future studies.

- Abstract
Grounded theory methodology was used to study the involvement of eleven nonresidential fathers in their school-aged children’s education. Semi-structured interviews were utilized to gain information about nonresidential fathers’ involvement in their children’s education. The results of this study present a detailed picture of nonresidential fathers’ process of being involved in their children’s education. Data suggests fathers’ process of being involved is shaped by the contextual factors of cultural norms on fathers, laws on custody, and the specifics of each father’s divorce/custody agreement. Important factors influencing fathers’ involvement include their beliefs about themselves as fathers, beliefs about the co-parenting relationship, the distribution of power in the co-parenting relationship, and fathers’ beliefs about themselves in the co-parenting relationship. Based on the aforementioned factors, nonresidential fathers engage in targeted actions (“battling”, “leveling”, and “parenting”) to improve their involvement with their children. Fathers’ educational involvement behaviors revealed to be multifaceted, as fathers address their children’s school and overall development through direct actions and activities with their children, and through indirect interactions with the school and the co-parent. Results suggest implications for future research, child and family policy, schools, and health-practitioners.

- Abstract
Although co-parenting in two-parent families has been an increasingly important area of research, little is known about the co-parenting conversation as a crucial aspect of co-parenting. This study used grounded theory methodology to explore how Chinese Singaporean parents perceive their co-parenting conversations in light of the influence of their families-of-origin. Interviews were conducted with mothers and fathers in sixteen families. Findings revealed a central category, Conversations along the Co-parenting Journey, and two main categories, conversations that connect and collaborate in co-parenting, and conversations on family heritage and practices. A substantive theory of co-parenting conversation process was generated from the synthesis of the findings. This study serves as the foundation for future research in co-parenting conversation, and its implications for clinicians and researchers are presented and discussed.

- Abstract
We conducted an interpretive description of co-parenting relationship experiences of romantically involved Black adolescent mothers and fathers with shared biological children. The study was conducted in Brooklyn, New York, using data from individual in-depth interviews with adolescent mothers and fathers (n = 10). Four themes were identified: (a) putting our heads together; (b) balancing childhood and parenthood; (c) less money, more problems; and (d) if we use condoms, it is for contraception. The co-parenting couples managed very complex relationships, but their mutual interest in the welfare of their children was a relational asset. Co-parents had sparse financial resources but used a moral economy strategy to provide mutual support. Future research is needed that focuses on identifying other co-parent relationship assets and integrating and evaluating their utility for enhancing interventions for adolescent families., (© The Author(s) 2014.)

- Abstract
A two-month longitudinal program evaluation was conducted of a four-hour mandated parent education program for divorcing parents of minor children. To expand on Brandon’s (2006) program evaluation of the same program, the present study sought to examine knowledge gain and behavior change in participants. Using a retrospective post-then-pre design, 139 participants reported their knowledge gain in two areas: (a) the impacts of divorce and of putting children in the middle of conflict, and (b) strategies to reduce conflict with one’s former spouse. Two-month follow-up interviews were used to assess behavior change in two areas: (a) using techniques to manage post-divorce conflict with one’s former spouse, and (b) implementing strategies to keep children out of the middle of conflict. The participants reported knowledge gain and behavior change in each of the four respective areas. It was found that knowledge gain in both areas and behavior change in using techniques to manage post-divorce conflict did not vary as a function of parent gender, race, or parenting stage. However, results indicated behavior change in implementing strategies to keep children out of the middle of conflict varied only as a function of parenting stage (F(1) = 8.45, p < .01). It was also found that knowledge gain in regards to the impact of divorce and putting children in the middle of conflict predicted behavior change in regards to implementing strategies to keep children out of the middle of conflict (p < .05). The results of this study are intended to suggest improvements for the program as well as to provide insights for other parenting education programs for divorcing parents.

- Abstract
There are a number of reasons to believe that families' access to economic resources will have effects on men's parental involvement in two-parent families. One view, focused on men's success as family breadwinners, posits that fathers in families that are experiencing economic insecurity will reduce their parental involvement as a means of coping with feelings of failure. An alternate view, focused on families' practical efforts to cope with limited economic resources, argues that the fewer economic resources families have, the more they will make use of fathers' care of children as a means of maximizing their well-being with the resources they have available. Both of these views highlight the importance of the level of economic resources available to families, although they hypothesize effects on fathers' parental involvement that are in opposite directions. In addition, economic resources, as resources, are potentially important indirect influences on families' household division of labor because they can enable or constrain families' consumption behavior, affecting families' ability to manage the demand for fathers' parental involvement. However, little research has been done as of yet to map the potential indirect links between families' economic resources and men's parental involvement that might exist as a result of such consumption, or to identify the specific mediating factors which may be involved. Finally, research on the determinants of men's parental involvement must necessarily address the effects that the ongoing cultural redefinition of fatherhood from breadwinning to co-parenting might have on men's fathering behavior. Yet in the current fatherhood research the question of whether the major determinants of fathers' involvement operate similarly for men who see themselves as "good providers" as for men who view their role in terms of "co-parenting" is largely unaddressed. This dissertation improves our understanding of these issues. The effects of four types of economic resources are modeled for each of the three commonly accepted aspects of father involvement relative to mothers' involvement. In addition, this dissertation maps three potential paths of indirect influence from families' economic resources to fathers' relative parental involvement. The first pathway focuses on families' ability to outsource childcare, thus reducing the demand for fathers' parental involvement relative to mothers'. The second pathway focuses on the effect of families' economic problems on fathers' feelings of success or failure and the resulting impact of these feelings on men's relative involvement. The third pathway explored in this dissertation examines the impact of families' neighborhood context on men's relative father involvement. Given the assumption that families will attempt to reside in the best neighborhoods they can afford to live in, this project examines how the level of social cohesion and the level of risk or hazards in the neighborhood affect men's relative involvement, given men's historical role as family protectors. Finally, this dissertation tests for empirical interaction effects between fathers' fatherhood attitudes and the other determinants of men's involvement, as a way of assessing the degree to which the effects of these other determinants are moderated by men's beliefs about their proper role as a father. The findings of these analyses suggest that the effects of economic resources on men's relative parental involvement are nuanced, depending both upon the specific type of economic resource under consideration the specific aspect of father involvement. The findings also indicate limited support for each of the three paths of influence, although their influence is also specific to a particular aspect of father involvement. In addition, a number of interaction effects were identified which indicate differential effects of key determinants of fathers' involvement depending on the degree to which fathers' attitudes are more traditional or more egalitarian in nature.

The family is considered important in promoting adequate physical, cognitive, and socioemotional development. This study aimed to analyze the associations between the dimensions of positive parenting, co-parenting and socioemotional development of children aged 12 to 36 months. For data collection, we used a sociodemographic data questionnaire, the Positive Parenting Scale, the Coparenting Scale, and the Socioemotional Development Scale, filled out by parents on paper. Participants included 347 children (50.3% girls), aged between 10 and 35 months. The mothers of these children were, on average, 34.76 (SD = 4.79) years old and more than half had completed higher education (62.1%). The father was, on average, 36.79 (SD = 4.95) years old and 48.3% had completed higher education. The results show the existence of low, positive correlations between socioemotional development and the dimensions of positive parenting. In addition, there is a low, negative and statistically significant relationship between cognitive development and one of the dimensions of positive parenting. The dimensions of co-parenting do not show statistically significant correlations with either socioemotional development or cognitive development. In the multivariate regression analysis, it was found that socioemotional development is associated with the child's age and family involvement., Projeto financiado pela Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian (Academias Gulbenkian do Conhecimento number 221669), Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian (Portugal); 221669

- Abstract
This article tackles some appearances on how the 'social norms or expectations' built from the rooting in the sexual differentiation can be encouraged or diluted according what is the orientation of the public policies, that is the importance to consider the potentiality gender-transformative of the public policy, it does mean taking in account the gender impact that it will have on the 'social norm' based in the sexual division of the labor. The article collects a feminist approach to the comparative analysis of the (maternity, paternity and parental) leaves system in 27 European countries, like a piece of public policies to promote equity by uses of time between women and men, and implications of the attention and the care after the birth of a baby. Evidences found show that not all the parental leave policy have potentiality enough to influence in the sexual division of the labor in the same direction; there are combinations of normative elements of the parental leave systems that promote changes the gender roles and there are other combinations based on the gender social norms, being able to reinforce them even more.
