While thirty-seven species of various groups of organisms were identified at the five stations at KSC, further sampling is needed to further enumerate and identify phytoplankton and periphyton for the long term monitoring program and assessment for a probable polygeneration site. Thallophyta, Cyanophyta coccoid and Chrysophyta pennate were the dominant organisms. Chlorobium was the most abundant Thallophyta. Pennate diatoms were larger and more abundant at station one. The absence of Skeletonema costatum was surprising. Stations four and five appear to be acid marsh swales. Rhabdoderma lineare, a Cyanophyta coccoid found in acid lakes, was abundant in stations four and five.

Network channels elements of data array from memory ports to processor ports using a hardware-generated binary control work. Depending on control work selected, data may be shifted in increments or transposed in each of three levels to reach appropriate processing ports. A similar arrangement with reversed wiring is used to return data from processing ports to respective memory modules. Selection gate used in network incorporates two AND gates feeding an OR gate. In some logic families the OR gate may be fabricated as a "wired OR".

Proposed processor architecture would have flexibility of a multi-processor and computational power of a lockstep array. Using an efficient interconnection network, it accomodates a large number of individual processors and memory modules. Array architecture would be suitable for very large scientific simulation problems and other applications.

The feasibility of a polygeneration plant at Kennedy Space Center was studied. Liquid hydrogen and gaseous nitrogen are the two principal products in consideration. Environmental parameters (air quality, water quality, biological diversity and hazardous waste disposal) necessary for the feasibility study were investigated. A National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) project flow sheet was to be formulated for the environmental impact statement. Water quality criteria for Florida waters were to be established.

A method is developed for optimizing the energy release from a megajoule capacitive discharge in a series RLC circuit with an RL load. Both the resistance and inductance of the load are represented by effective values that characterize their behavior during the discharge. Using Kirchhoff's laws, equations utilizing the load impedance and the external circuit impedance are derived for determining the instantaneous load voltage and energy characteristics. A program (ERES) computes and displays the load characteristics and the circuit current. Use of the ERES program allows a designer to perturbate values of the circuit elements in order to produce the desired time distribution for the load energy input.

A large amount of fundamental aerodynamic missile data, which were stored for a number of years at the Applied Physics Laboratory, are reported. Data that supplements the M = 2.0 flow field data are provided. The Mach number effect by means of pressure fields only, at M = 1.5 and 2.0, and at angles of attack up to 23 deg at a mid-body station where a wing might be located is described.

Available flow field data which can be used in validating theoretical procedures for computing flow fields around supersonic missiles are presented. Tabulated test data are given which define the flow field around a conical-nosed cylindrical body in a crossflow plane corresponding to a likely tail location. The data were obtained at a Mach number of 2.0 for an angle of attack of 0 to 23 degrees. The data define the flow field for cases both with and without a forward wing present.

Individual wing panel aerodynamic characteristics are provided for rectangular wings with aspect ratios of 0.25, 0.75, and 1.00 each panel at Mach numbers if 1.5 and 2.0 for angles of attack to 23 degrees. Data plots produced from reports of wind tunnel tests show normal force coefficients, and the spanwise and chordwise center of pressure locations.

The parts of an aerodynamics research project of the Bumblebee Program, called Generalized Missile study, is described. The source related, and potential applications are discussed.

The Bumblebee program, was designed to provide a supersonic guided missile. The aerodynamics program included a fundamental research effort in supersonic aerodynamics as well as a design task in developing both test vehicles and prototypes of tactical missiles. An index of aerodynamic missile data developed in this program is presented.

Ten samples of composite panels were evaluated in the smoke chamber using a high flux heater to produce heat flux levels up to 9.5 watts per square cm. This study demonstrated the potential of the apparatus as a means of evaluating ignitability as well as smoke evolution. Depending on the material and the heat flux level, ignitability results ranged from ignition within 2 seconds to no ignition during the test period. Smoke density generally increased with increasing heat flux. A composite panel consisting of bismaleimide-fiberglass/bismaleimide honeycomb with carbon microballoons exhibited the lowest smoke density at high heat flux levels and the greatest resistance to autoignition.

Human subjects were exposed to a linear acceleration vector that rotated in the transverse plane of the skull without angular counterrotation. Lateral eye movements showed a sinusoidal change in slow phase velocity and an asymmetry or bias in the same direction as vector rotation. A model is developed that attributes the oculomotor response to otolithic mechanisms. It is suggested that the bias component is the manifestation of torsion of the statoconial plaque relative to the base of the utricular macula and that the sinusoidal component represents the translational oscillation of the statoconia. The model subsumes a hypothetical neural mechanism which allows x- and y-axis accelerations to be resolved. Derivation of equations of motion for the statoconial plaque in torsion and translation, which take into account forces acting in shear and normal to the macula, yield estimates of bias and sinusoidal components that are in qualitative agreement with the diverse experimental findings.
