We study inelastic neutrino scattering off hot nuclei for temperatures relevant under supernova conditions. The method we use is based on the quasiparticle random phase approximation extended to finite temperatures within the thermo field dynamics (TQRPA). The method allows a transparent treatment of upward and downward transitions in hot nuclei, avoiding the application of Brink's hypothesis. For the sample nuclei $^{56}$Fe and $^{82}$Ge we perform a detailed analysis of thermal effects on the strength distributions of allowed Gamow-Teller (GT) transitions which dominate the scattering process at low neutrino energies. For $^{56}$Fe and $^{82}$Ge the finite temperature cross-sections are calculated by taking into account the contribution of allowed and forbidden transitions. The observed enhancement of the cross-section at low neutrino energies is explained by considering thermal effects on the GT strength. For $^{56}$Fe we compare the calculated cross-sections to those obtained earlier from a hybrid approach that combines large-scale shell-model and RPA calculations., 12 pages, 9 figures

We present an escape rate theory for current-induced chemical reactions. We use Keldysh nonequilibrium Green's functions to derive a Langevin equation for the reaction coordinate. Due to the out of equilibrium electronic degrees of freedom, the friction, noise, and effective temperature in the Langevin equation depend locally on the reaction coordinate. As an example, we consider the dissociation of diatomic molecules induced by the electronic current from a scanning tunnelling microscope tip. In the resonant tunnelling regime, the molecular dissociation involves two processes which are intricately interconnected: a modification of the potential energy barrier and heating of the molecule. The decrease of the molecular barrier (i.e. the current induced catalytic reduction of the barrier) accompanied by the appearance of the effective, reaction-coordinate-dependent temperature is an alternative mechanism for current-induced chemical reactions, which is distinctly different from the usual paradigm of pumping vibrational degrees of freedom., Comment: Accepted by JCP. The paper deals with the problem of processing digital prototypes in machine engineering with the use of modern approaches to computer vision, methods of taxonomy (a section of the decision theory), automation of manual retouching techniques. Upon further study of the problem, different taxonomic methods have been considered, among which the reference method has been chosen as the most appropriate for automated search of defective areas of the prototype. As a result, the algorithm for automated enhancement of digital prototypes of the digital image has been developed, using modern information technologies.

In this paper, we calculate cross sections for charged-current neutrino-nucleus processes occuring under presupernova conditions. To treat thermal effects we extend self-consistent Skyrme-QRPA calculations to finite temperature by using the formalism of thermo field dynamics. We present a new approach to treat correlations in nonequilibrium quantum many-particle system. The method is based on ideas of configuration interaction theory of exact nonperturbative ground state electronic structure calculations. We use superoperator techniques in Liouville-Fock space and represent the nonequilibrium density matrix as a linear combination of all possible nonequilibrium quasiparticle excitations built on the appropriate reference state. As an example we consider the electron transport through the system with electron-phonon interaction. The concept of embedding (buffer zones between the reservoirs and the correlated quantum system) is used to derive an exact master equation for the reduced density matrix. Using approximate (truncated) expansion of the trial density matrix we obtain the linear system of equations for two-quasiparticle amplitudes. Then we compute the steady-state current and compare the result with other approaches. The current conserving property of the method is proved.

We examine the rate of neutrino-antineutrino pair emission by hot nuclei in collapsing stellar cores. The rates are calculated assuming that only allowed charge-neutral Gamow-Teller (GT$_0$) transitions contribute to the decay of thermally excited nuclear states. To obtain the GT$_0$ transition matrix elements, we employ the quasiparticle random phase approximation extended to finite temperatures within the thermo field dynamics formalism. On the basis of the comparison of complete genome structures of 32 strains and gene E fragments (160 ndt) of 643 strains and RNA isolates of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) virus, we confirmed our previously expressed assumption (Zlobin V.I. et al, 2001) of existence, along with the three major genotypes, of genotypes 4 (strain 178-79) and 5 (strain 886-84). "Mosaic" structure of the polyprotein in the two strains was established. It manifests itself in particular in the sequences of 14 positions (C-3, E-206, NS1-54, NS-285, NS2A-100, NS2A-127, NS2A-174, NS2A-175, NS2A-225, NS3-376, NS4B-28, NS4B-96, NS5-18, NS5-671) containing the amino acids strictly conserved for each of the three major genotypes and is consistent with a uniform pattern of distribution of nucleotide substitutions that are specific for genotypes 1, 2 and 3. Possible scenario of the origin of TBE genotypes 4 and 5 was suggested.

The approach to study properties of charge-exchange excitations in hot nuclei is presented. The approach is based on the extension of the finite rank separable approximation for Skyrme interactions to finite temperatures employing the TFD formalism. We present the formulae to obtain charge-exchange strength distributions within the Thermal Quasiparticle Random Phase Approximation (TQRPA).

We present a method to perform stability analysis of nonequilibrium fixed points appearing in self-consistent electron transport calculations. The nonequilibrium fixed points are given by the self-consistent solution of stationary, nonlinear kinetic equation for single-particle density matrix. We obtain the stability matrix by linearizing the kinetic equation around the fixed points and analyze the real part of its spectrum to assess the asymptotic time behavior of the fixed points. We derive expressions for the stability matrices within Hartree-Fock and linear response adiabatic time-dependent density functional theory. The stability analysis of multiple fixed points is performed within the nonequilibrium Hartree-Fock approximation for the electron transport through a molecule with a spin-degenerate single level with local Coulomb interaction.

Tick-borne encephalitis is a zoonotic infection of a central nervous system whose clinical course is often severe, even fatal, and complications (such as paralysis) are frequent [Zlobin and Lvov, 2008]. It is caused by tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) belonging to the mammalian tick-borne flaviviruses group in the genus Flavivirus (Flaviviridae). The group includes several species found in geographically distant regions of Eurasia and North America. Evolutionary and genetic relationships among these viruses as well as among TBEV strains proper are not clear, which results in the contradiction of classification schemes suggested by different authors. There is a widely shared opinion that three antigenic TBEV subtypes correspond to three major TBEV genotypes, the Far Eastern (TBEV-FE, with Sofjin strain as a prototype), European (TBEV-Eu, prototype Neudoerfl strain), and Siberian or Ural-Siberian (TBEV-Sib, prototypes Vasilchenko and Zausaev strains) (Fig. 1) [Ecker et al., 1999; Hayasaka et al., 1999, 2001; Zlobin et al., 2001a, 2003; Pogodina et al., 2002, 2004]. In 2001 as a result of studying TBEV genetic variability the existence of six genotypes of the virus was supposed on the basis of homology analysis of a small part of the E gene (160 nt) of 34 strains [Zlobin et al., 2001a,b]. Three of them were accepted as the main ones [Zlobin et al., 2003]. The Turkish strain described earlier as a separate strain in the TBEV virus subgroup [Gao et al., 1993] was included in the genotype 6 together with the strain Vergina [described as a strain of TBEV by Pogodina et al., 1993] and classified as the variant of Louping ill virus (LIV, the Scottish sheep encephalomyelitis virus) [Heinz et al., 2000]. Genotypes 4 and 5 were represented by single strains, 178-79 and 886-84. These strains were isolated in the Irkutsk region and met the criteria for classification into independent genotypes according to the degree of genomic differences [Zlobin et al., 2001a]. Then, the complete genome sequences of 178-79 and 886-84 strains have been determined [Karan’ et al., 2007a,b]. Phylogenetic analysis has revealed that strain 178-79 to the greater degree and

Computer programs were used to search for tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) virus recombinants among the isolates whose complete nucleotide sequences are deposited in the GenBank database. The application of RDP, Chimaera, Maximum chi2, and TOPAL programs has revealed recombinant sites in a number of sequences, which indicates that TBE virus has recombinations and that the programs are suitable for their detection.

We discuss the use of tunneling electron current to control and catalyze chemical reactions. Assuming the separation of time scales for electronic and nuclear dynamics we employ the Langevin equation for the reaction coordinate. The Langevin equation contains current-induced forces and is used to define nonequilibrium, effective potential energy surface for current-carrying molecular systems. The current-induced forces are computed via Keldysh nonequilibrium Green's functions. Once the nonequilibrium, current-depended potential energy surface is defined, the chemical reaction is modeled as an escape of a Brownian particle from the potential well. We demonstrate that the barrier between the reactant and the product states can be controlled by the bias voltage. When the molecule is asymmetrically coupled to the electrodes, the reaction can be catalyzed or stopped depending on the polarity of the tunneling current., Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures

Thermal effects for inelastic neutrino-nucleus scattering off even-even nuclei in the iron region are studied. Allowed and first-forbidden contributions to the cross sections are calculated within the quasiparticle random phase approximation, extended to finite temperatures within the Thermo-Field-Dynamics formalism. The GT$_0$ strength distribution at finite temperatures is calculated for the sample nucleus $^{54}$Fe. The neutral-current neutrino-nucleus inelastic cross section is calculated for relevant temperatures during the supernova core collapse. The thermal population of the excited states significantly enhances the cross section at low neutrino energies. We discuss the use of super-fermion formalism to represent and solve quantum kinetic equations for the electron transport problem. Starting with the Lindblad master equation for the molecule connected to two metal electrodes, we convert the problem of finding the nonequilibrium steady state to the many-body problem with non-Hermitian Liouvillian in super-Fock space. We transform the Liouvillian to the normal ordered form, introduce nonequilibrium quasiparticles by a set of canonical nonunitary transformations and develop general many-body theory for the electron transport through the interacting region. The approach is applied to the electron transport through a single level. We consider a minimal basis hydrogen atom attached to two metal leads in Coulomb blockade regime (out of equilibrium Anderson model) within the nonequilibrium Hartree-Fock approximation as an example of the system with electron interaction. We study the electron spin dynamics in p-type GaAs doped with magnetic Mn acceptors by means of time-resolved pump-probe and photoluminescence techniques. Measurements in transverse magnetic fields show a long spin relaxation time of 20 ns that can be uniquely related to electrons. Application of weak longitudinal magnetic fields above 100 mT extends the spin relaxation times up to microseconds which is explained by suppression of the Bir-Aronov-Pikus spin relaxation for the electron on the Mn acceptor., 5 pages, 3 figures

A panel of genotype-specific molecular probes has been designed, which is used to indicate and differentiate tickborne encephalitis (TBE) virus. It assesses the individual genetic structure of each strain since the targets for the probes are the variable sequences of all 10 virus genes, which are specific for each of three genotypes. The molecular nucleic acid hybridization by means of the panel was used to study 273 TBE virus strains. Isolated from a Eurasian area; along with the representatives of three genotypes, the virus strains, the genomic structures of which do not fit in the established concept on three genotypes, circulate in Eastern Siberia.

We report a surprisingly long spin relaxation time of electrons in Mn-doped p-GaAs. The spin relaxation time scales with the optical pumping and increases from 12 ns in the dark to 160 ns upon saturation. This behavior is associated with the difference in spin relaxation rates of electrons precessing in the fluctuating fields of ionized or neutral Mn acceptors, respectively. For the latter the antiferromagnetic exchange interaction between a Mn ion and a bound hole results in a partial compensation of these fluctuating fields, leading to the enhanced spin memory., 4 pages, 4 figures

Effects of the GABA-CoA reductase inhibitor lovastatin and the ACE inhibitor captopril on the induction and growth of mammary gland tumors induced by N-methyl-N-nitrosourea in Wistar rats have been studied. It is established that lovastatin administered in a doze of 80 mg/kg two times a week exhibits anticarcinogenic activity, which is manifested by a significant decrease in the incidence of neoplasms and an increase in the survival lifetime in the experimental animals. Captopril administered in a doze of 50 mg/kg two times a week significantly decreased the tumor growth rate. The chemopreventive activity of these drugs can be due to their possible regulatory influence on the processes of cell proliferation, differentiation, neoangiogenesis, and apoptosis. The results of this investigation show good prospects for the further investigation of lovastatin and captopril as chemotherapeutic agents for the prophylaxis of mammary tumor.

Emergency specific prevention of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) by using homologous immunoglobulin is an important element in the package of controlling measures against this viral natural and focal infection. There are annually a few hundred thousand referrals for health care facilities for tick bites. Their maximum coverage tactics via immunoglobulin prevention is medically unreal and unjustifiable. The paper presents the results of a long-term application of another approach based on preliminary rapid studies of the ticks taken from victims or the blood of patients in the period of possible development of virusemia and preventive immunoglobulin use only in the persons bitten with TBE virus-infected ticks. Examination of the material available from more than 56 thousand referrals indicated the high epidemiological (more than 99%) and economic effectiveness of the target administration of an immunological drug. By taking into account the accumulated data on a wide spread of combined foci of TBE and other tick-borne infections and the authors' own experience, it is suggested that it is necessary to organize a comprehensive differential laboratory diagnosis and emergency prevention against the whole complex of Ixodes tick-borne infections.

The review presents information on the development of studies into the molecular epidemiology of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) in Russia and foreign countries. The existence of three major virus genotypes has been established by various techniques, such as genomic fragment sequencing, molecular hybridization using genotype-specific probes, and restriction fragment length polymorphism test. Each of the genotypes prevails in different parts of a natural habitat; the Ural-Siberian genotype (a Siberian subtype) is most commonly encountered. The genetic differences between the strains belonging to different genotypes are great and comparable with differences between some mammalian flaviviruses transmitted by ticks (viruses of a TBE complex). Further studies of the molecular epidemiology of TBE are of importance in understanding the evolution of the causative agent, improving the taxonomy and the classification of flavivuruses, and designing highly effective methods for the specific diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of the disease.

We report a giant electric field induced increase of spin orientation of excitons in n-type GaAs/AlGaAs quantum well. It correlates strongly with the formation of negatively charged excitons (trions) in the photoluminescence spectra. Under resonant excitation of neutral heavy-hole excitons, the polarization of excitons and trions increases dramatically with electrical injection of electrons within the narrow exciton-trion bias transition in the PL spectra, implying a polarization sensitivity of 200 % per Volt. This effect results from a very efficient trapping of neutral excitons by the quantum well interfacial fluctuations (so-called "natural" quantum dots) containing resident electrons., Comment: 18 pages, 4 figures

We report a large and unexpected suppression of the free electron spin relaxation in lightly-doped n-GaAs bulk crystals. The spin relaxation rate shows weak mobility dependence and saturates at a level 30 times less then that predicted by the Dyakonov-Perel theory. The dynamics of the spin-orbit field differs substantially from the usual scheme: although all the experimental data can be self-consistently interpreted as a precessional spin relaxation induced by a random spin-orbit field, the correlation time of this random field, surprisingly, is much shorter than, and is independent of, the momentum relaxation time determined from transport measurements. Understanding of this phenomenon could lead to high temperature engineering of the electron spin memory.

An extended Holstein-Primakoff mapping which incorporates both single- and double boson mappings is used in the context of O(N+1) anharmonic oscillator with the global symmetry broken down to O(N) to study the next-to-leading order of the 1/N expansion. An extended Holstein-Primakoff mapping which incorporates both single- and double-fermion mappings is used in the context of thermofield dynamics to study the next-to-leading order of the $1∕N$ expansion at finite temperature. For the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model it is shown that the extended mapping naturally leads to the correct Fermi statistics both in leading and next-to-leading order.
