327. Mn2C monolayer: hydrogenation/oxygenation induced strong room-temperature ferromagnetism and potential applications

Abstract

Two-dimensional ferromagnetic materials with strong ferromagnetism and high Curie temperature are significantly desired for the applications of nanoscale devices. Here, based on first-principles computations, we report hydrogenated/oxygenated Mn2C monolayer is a such material with strong room-temperature ferromagnetism. The bare Mn2C monolayer is an antiferromagnetic metal with the local magnetic moment of Mn ~ 3{\mu}B. However, the antiferromagnetic coupling of Mn atoms can transform into the ferromagnetic order under hydrogenation/oxygenation. Especially, the magnetic moments in hydrogenated/oxygenated Mn2C monolayer can be as large as 6 {\mu}B per unit cell, and the Curie temperatures are above 290K. Beside the potential applications in spintronic devices, our work suggests that Mn2C monolayer is also promising to be used in hydrogen/oxygen detection and removal devices.

328. Superconducting properties in a candidate topological nodal line semimetal SnTaS$_2$ with a centrosymmetric crystal structure

Abstract

We report the magnetization, electrical resistivity, specific heat measurements and band structure calculations of layered superconductor SnTaS$_2$. The experiments are performed on single crystals grown by chemical vapor transport method. The resistivity and magnetic susceptibility indicate that SnTaS$_2$ is a type-II superconductor with transition temperature $T_c = 3$ K. The upper critical field ($H_{c2}$) shows large anisotropy for magnetic field parallel to $ab$ plane ($H//ab$) and $c$ axis ($H//c$), and the temperature dependence of $H_{c2}$ for $H//ab$ shows obvious unconventional upward feature at low temperature. Band structure of SnTaS$_2$ shows several band crossings near the Fermi level, which form three nodal lines in the k$_z$ = 0 plane resulting in drumhead-like surface states when spin-orbit coupling is not considered. These results indicate that SnTaS$_2$ is a superconductor with possible topological nodal line semimetal character.

Abstract

Variations in many genes linked to sporadic Alzheimer's disease (AD) show abundant expression in microglia, but relationships among these genes remain largely elusive. Here, we establish isogenic human ESC-derived microglia-like cell lines (hMGLs) harboring AD variants in CD33, INPP5D, SORL1, and TREM2 loci and curate a comprehensive atlas comprising ATAC-seq, ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, and proteomics datasets. AD-like expression signatures are observed in AD mutant SORL1 and TREM2 hMGLs, while integrative multi-omic analysis of combined epigenetic and expression datasets indicates up-regulation of APOE as a convergent pathogenic node. We also observe cross-regulatory relationships between SORL1 and TREM2, in which SORL1R744X hMGLs induce TREM2 expression to enhance APOE expression. AD-associated SORL1 and TREM2 mutations also impaired hMGL Aβ uptake in an APOE-dependent manner in vitro and attenuated Aβ uptake/clearance in mouse AD brain xenotransplants. Using this modeling and analysis platform for human microglia, we provide new insight into epistatic interactions in AD genes and demonstrate convergence of microglial AD genes at the APOE locus.
