Abstract

Perfect optical vortices (POVs) provide an enabling solution to address the predicament induced by the strong dependence of classical optical vortices on theirs carried topological charges. Here, a type of generalized POVs with controllable impulse ring profile was proposed and demonstrated. Especially, a type of "absolute" dark POVs surrounded by two bright ringlobes in each side was presented, which provides a perfect annular potential well along those dark impulse rings for trapping steadily low-index particles, cells, or quantum gas, etc. In further, several POVs with different impulse ring profiles, including conventional POVs with bright rings, dark POVs mentioned above, and also POVs with controllable impulse ring profile, were demonstrated. This work opens up new possibilities to reshape arbitrarily the impulse ring profile for perfect vortices, and this type of novel POVs will enrich functions of optical vortices and it should be of high interest for its potential applications in optical manipulation, both quantum and classical optical communications, enhanced optical imaging, and also novel structured pumping lasers, etc.., There was a serious error in figure S1 and it has been corrected in the second version. 314. Investigation of in vitro susceptibility and resistance mechanisms to amikacin among diverse carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to assess the in vitro drug susceptibility of various Carbapenemase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) genotypes and elucidate the underlying mechanisms of amikacin resistance. Methods: A total of 72 unique CPE strains were collected from the Second Hospital of Jiaxing between 2019 and 2022, including 51 strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae, 11 strains of Escherichia coli, 6 strains of Enterobacter cloacae, 2 strains of Klebsiella aerogenes, 1 strain of Citrobacter freundii, and 1strain of Citrobacter werkmanii. Among these strains, 24 carried blaKPC gene, 20 carried blaNDM gene, 23 carried blaOXA−48−like gene, and 5 carried both blaKPC and blaNDM. We measured the in vitro activity of amikacin and other common antibiotics. Strains carrying blaOXA−48-like gene were selected for whole genome sequencing (WGS) via next-generation sequencing to identify genes related to antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and virulence factor (VF). Results: Out of the 72 CPE strains tested, 41.7% exhibited resistance to amikacin. The drug resistance rates for K. pneumoniae, E. coli, and Enterobacter spp. were 51.0%, 27.3%, and 10.0%, respectively. The majority of the CPE strains (> 90%) displayed resistance to cephalosporins and carbapenems, while most of them were sensitive to polymyxin B and tigecycline (97.2% and 94.4%). The amikacin resistance rate was 100% for strains carrying blaOXA−48, 20.8% for those with blaKPC, 5.0% for those with blaNDM, and 20.0% for those with both blaKPC and blaNDM. These differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Through sequencing, we detected aminoglycoside resistance genes rmtF and aac(6')-Ib, VF genes iucABCD and rmpA2 in OXA-48-producing multidrug resistance and highly virulent strains. These genes were located on a IncFIB- and IncHI1B-type plasmid, respectively. Both plasmids were highly homologous to the plasmid from OXA-232 strains in Zhejiang province and Shanghai province. Integration of these resistance genes into the IncFIB plasmid, facilitated by the IS6 and/or Tn3 transposons, resulted in OXA232-producing K. pneumoniae with amikacin resistance. Conclusion: This study identified significant amikacin resistance in CPE strains, particularly in those carrying the blaOXA−48 gene. Resistance genes rmtF and aac(6')-Ib were identified on plasmids. Abstract

50%–80% of the hydrocarbons in gasoline engine emissions come from during cold starts. Zeolites are often used to adsorb HCs during gasoline engine cold-starting. In order to investigate the effect of adsorption enhancement of different molecular sieves on HCs during gasoline engine cold-starting. In this paper, the adsorption properties of Beta, MOR and FER zeolites at different temperatures were simulated based on Monte Carlo method using propylene and toluene as probe molecules. The results show that all three molecular sieves exhibit good adsorption properties at low temperatures. The adsorption capacity decreased with increasing temperature. The molecular sieves tend to adsorb molecules with diameters similar to the pore size of zeolite. In addition, the three-dimensional zeolites Beta and FER showed better adsorption properties than the one-dimensional zeolites. Based on Monte Carlo method, the adsorption properties of Beta, MOR and FER molecular sieves were investigated at different temperatures under multi-components using toluene, isopentane, propylene, ethylene, methane and water as adsorbents. The results showed that there was a competitive adsorption among the components due to the limited adsorption sites in the molecular sieve channels. Large molecules such as toluene and isopentane occupied most of the adsorption sites and hindered the adsorption of small molecules. • Adsorption models of the different zeolites are established and validated. • Hydrocarbon adsorption performance of the different zeolites is investigated. • Influence characteristics of the hydrocarbon adsorption efficiency are gotten. Abstract

In this paper, we propose a high-density grating interferometry system, which can be applied to measure displacement on the nanometer precision. We make use of the optical subdivision module to improve the measurement resolution which is better than the traditional one. The core part of the whole system is a grating with high-density of 1780 lines/mm and long-range of 100mm*100mm. The apparatus adopts a symmetrical structure to reduce the error resulting from environmental disturbance. The system provides a novel measurement technique to improve the grating interferometry. The experimental results show that the grating interferometer system has good stability, and the in-situ measurement error is within +/- 5 nm for a long time. The grating interferometer can measure the short distance displacement of 30 nm and can control the error within +/- 2 nm. The measurement of the distance of 10 mm can control the error within +/- 20 nm. The results proves the feasibility of our proposed improved.

To identify whether marital status is associated with survival in patients with bladder urothelial carcinoma (UC). Using Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results population-based data, 133,846 patients diagnosed with bladder UC between 1988 and 2009 were identified. Kaplan–Meier methods and multivariable Cox regression models were used for survival analyses and evaluation of the association between marital status and survival, after controlling for gender, age, race, primary site, tumor (topography), lymph node, metastasis stage, pathological grading, and surgery. Abstract

Twenty-three selected advanced spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) lines from Ottawa Research and Development Centre (ORDC) were compared with four known cultivars for agronomic performance at eight sites in 2016 (Ottawa CEF-C1, Ottawa CEF-C2, St. Isidore, Harrington, Palmerston, Princeville, Kincardine, Beloeil) in Eastern Canada, and for fusarium head blight (FHB). The reaction of these lines to six races of LR was determined in a growth cabinet and the LR susceptible cultivar ‘Morocco’ was included as the control for disease development in these trials. The majority of the selected lines showed no significant differences compared to four check cultivars, however ECSW05 and ECSW48, showed higher yield, moderate resistance to FHB and resistance to most of the tested LR races. Lines ECSW05 and ECSW48 will be advanced to grower’s trials in eastern Canada in 2018 and may be used as sources of resistance to LR for future cultivar development in Eastern Canada.

Abstract

Many pathogens infect hosts through specific organs, such as Ustilaginoidea virens, which infects rice panicles. Here, we show that a microbe-associated molecular pattern (MAMP), Ser-Thr-rich Glycosyl-phosphatidyl-inositol-anchored protein (SGP1) from U. virens, induces immune responses in rice leaves but not panicles. SGP1 is widely distributed among fungi and acts as a proteinaceous, thermostable elicitor of BAK1-dependent defense responses in N. benthamiana. Plants specifically recognize a 22 amino acid peptide (SGP1 N terminus peptide 22, SNP22) in its N-terminus that induces cell death, oxidative burst, and defense-related gene expression. Exposure to SNP22 enhances rice immunity signaling and resistance to infection by multiple fungal and bacterial pathogens. Interestingly, while SGP1 can activate immune responses in leaves, SGP1 is required for U. virens infection of rice panicles in vivo, showing it contributes to the virulence of a panicle adapted pathogen. Ustilaginoidea virens is a fungal pathogen that infects rice via the panicles. Here, the authors show that U. virens SGP1, a conserved Ser-Thr-rich glycosyl-phosphatidyl-inositol-anchored protein, elicits immune responses in rice leaves while contributing to virulence in panicles. Abstract

As an endocrine disruptor, di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) is ubiquitous in multiple environmental media, causing long-term toxic effects on organisms. MicroRNAs are a class of noncoding RNAs with only 20–24 nucleotides in length, which regulate the expression of many protein-coding genes when organisms are exposed to environmental chemicals. MiR-146a, a differentially expressed miRNA after DEHP exposure, was screened by miRNA sequencing. As its target, TRAF6was predicted and identified by double fluorescent protein assay and double fluorescent gene reporting assay. It shows the contrary expression pattern with miR-146a when mimics and inhibitors were transfected into ZF4 cells. MiR-146a and TRAF6were downregulated and upregulated, respectively, in zebrafish embryos exposed to a low-dose concentration gradient of DEHP. These results deepen our understanding of the molecular mechanisms of DEHP toxicity and suggest that miR-146a can serve as a potential biomarker for DEHP exposure.

349. Preparation of a novel sodium acetate trihydrate-based composite phase change material and thermal performance of its integration in a coil-type thermal energy storage unit for heat pump system

Abstract

Although salt hydrate is characterized as a potential energy storage material, some of its disadvantages still can be encountered, such as mismatched phase change temperature, low thermal conductivity, phase separation, and large supercooling. In this paper, a novel composite phase change material (CPCM) with sodium acetate trihydrate (SAT) as the main body is fabricated by melting blending for heat pump system. Potassium chloride (KCl) is used as a modification agent to modulate the SAT phase change temperature. Carboxyl methyl cellulose (CMC) and disodium phosphate dodecahydrate (DSP) are employed as thickening and nucleating agents to address the phase separation and supercooling issues, respectively. Expanded graphite (EG) is utilized as a high heat conduction additive to enhance the thermal conductivity. Furthermore, the thermal properties and stability of the novel CPCM are studied. In order to identify the thermal properties of the novel CPCM, a high energy density coil-type latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES) unit employing the CPCM as energy storage material is set up, while a cycle of thermal charge and release in the unit between heating at 70 °C and cooling at 30 °C is designed to accommodate a scenario of residential heating. The experimental and numerical results indicate that the modified SAT yielded the desired phase change temperature of 49.3 °C, high latent heat of 224.6 kJ/kg, low supercooling degree of 0.96 °C and high thermal conductivity of 0.981 W/(m·K) are recognized when a minor ingredient with 8 wt% KCl, 4 wt% CMC, 4 wt% DSP and 3 wt% EG in the melting blend is prepared. Besides, the novel CPCM also exhibits good thermal stability with a latent heat loss of 7.14 % and supercooling degree remaining within 5 °C after 200 cycles. Moreover, the heat storage density of the LHTES unit employing the novel CPCM is up to 385.93 kJ/L, and its heat charge and release efficiency reaches to 91.39 %. Further, the average heat storage and release power of the proposed LHTES unit shows an increasing trend with a higher flow rate within a certain range. The findings of this study can provide a guidance for the large-scale thermal energy storage applications of SAT.

Abstract

In this research, a 1064 nm single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) vortex beam was generated from an annular-pumped Nd:YVO4microchip laser, in which a circular Dammann grating was used to reshape the 808 nm pump light into an annular intensity profile. As a result, the laser emitted a SLM LG01beam with a maximum output power of 192 mW. A straightforward technique for producing SLM vortex beams is made available by this work.
