140. Design principles of a novel X-ray imaging system

Abstract

A novel X-ray imaging system (NXRIS) and the design principles are given in this paper. Different from the existing digital X-ray imaging systems, the X-ray image intensifying system of NXRIS is a non-vacuum system composed of the intensifying screen and the brightness intensifier, and the brightness intensifier is named low light level image intensifier applied in military affairs. This structure makes NXRIS of big visual field (15 inch, even to larger) and low cost. When designing NXRIS, the spectral compatibility of the component devices and the relation between the visual field and the spatial resolution of the component devices are analyzed. The images produced by NXRIS are given and the image performance is good enough to be applied to security checking, non-destructive testing, and industry detection.

Abstract

Cerebral ischemia damages central neurons, and abnormal microenvironment in ischemic condition is the key factor to the damages. The increase of local concentration of glutamic acid, the overload of Ca2+, and the mitochondrial stress caused by release of cytochrome C are important factors of abnormal microenvironment in cerebral ischemia. In this study ginsenoside Rb1, a compound from Panax Notoginseng, was used to intervene abnormal environment of neurons in the hippocampal CA1 region in two animal models (microperfusion model and photothrombosis model). Results: Compared with the vehicle in the sham group, ginsenoside had following effects. a) ginsenoside Rb1 increased the regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) and the stability of neuronal ultrastructure in in the hippocampal CA1 region and improved the adaptability of neurons in two models. b) ginsenoside Rb1 improved the expression level of glial glutamate transporter1 (GLT-1) and reversed the uptake of glutamate (Glu) after ischemia, and as a result thereby decreased the excitability of Glu and the expression level of GLT-1 was proportional to the dose of ginsenoside Rb1 and similar to that of Nimodipine. c) ginsenoside Rb1 inhibited the expression level of NMDAR and the overload of Ca2+, thereby reducing neuronal damages. Meanwhile, the expression level of NMDAR was inversely proportional to the dose of ginsenoside Rb1, which was similar to that of Nimodipine. d) ginsenoside Rb1 decreased the release of cytochrome C (Cyt-C) and reduced the damages caused by neuronal mitochondrial stress. Meanwhile, the release of Cyt-C was inversely proportional to the dose of ginsenoside Rb1, which was similar to that of Nimodipine. Ginsenoside Rb1 may be as an effective drug for neuroprotection and improve cerebral blood flow after acute ischemia and prevent the secondary brain damage induced by stroke. Refereed/Peer-reviewed

143. Radiomics analysis using magnetic resonance imaging of bone marrow edema for diagnosing knee osteoarthritis.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop and validate a bone marrow edema model using a magnetic resonance imaging-based radiomics nomogram for the diagnosis of osteoarthritis. Clinical and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data of 302 patients with and without osteoarthritis were retrospectively collected from April 2022 to October 2023 at Longhua Hospital affiliated with the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The participants were randomly divided into two groups (a training group, n = 211 and a testing group, n = 91). We used logistic regression to analyze clinical characteristics and established a clinical model. Radiomics signatures were developed by extracting radiomic features from the bone marrow edema area using MRI. A nomogram was developed based on the rad-score and clinical characteristics. The diagnostic performance of the three models was compared using the receiver operating characteristic curve and Delong's test. The accuracy and clinical application value of the nomogram were evaluated using calibration curve and decision curve analysis. Clinical characteristics such as age, radiographic grading, Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index score, and radiological features were significantly correlated with the diagnosis of osteoarthritis. The Rad score was constructed from 11 radiological features. A clinical model was developed to diagnose osteoarthritis (training group: area under the curve [AUC], 0.819; testing group: AUC, 0.815). Radiomics models were used to effectively diagnose osteoarthritis (training group,: AUC, 0.901; testing group: AUC, 0.841). The nomogram model composed of Rad score and clinical characteristics had better diagnostic performance than a simple clinical model (training group: AUC, 0.906; testing group: AUC, 0.845; p < 0.01). Based on DCA, the nomogram model can provide better diagnostic performance in most cases. Abstract

Objective: To investigate the influence of hibernation drugs on postburn stress and inflammatory reaction in severely scalded rats., Methods: Sprague-Dawley rats inflicted with 30% TBSA deep partial thickness scalding were employed as the model. The rats were divided into A (scalding with immediate resuscitation), B (scalding with immediate resuscitation and lytic cocktail), C (scalding with delayed resuscitation), D (scalding with delayed resuscitation and lytic cocktail) and E (sham injury) groups. The rat plasma levels of NE (norepinephrine), E (epinephrine) and DA (dopamine) were determined by HPLC (high performance liquid chromatography) at 3, 6, 12, 24 and 48 postburn hours (PBHs), and the plasma IL-1alpha and PGE(2) levels were detected by ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) and RIA (radioimmunoassay) methods. The NF-kappaB activity in PBMCs (peripheral blood mononuclear cells) was determined by laser scanning confocal microscope., Results: The plasma NE and E levels reached summit at 6 PBH, while those in B group were lowest. But the plasma DA level was similar among all groups at all time points. The plasma IL-1alpha and PGE(2) levels increased continuously, however, the levels were were lower in B than A groups at the same time points, and also that of D were lower than C groups. At the same time points, the levels in B group were lower than those in D group. The NF-kappaB was located in the cytoplasma of PBMCs in E group and in the nucleus in A group at 6 PBH. Furthermore, the NF-kappaB was concentrated more in the cytoplasm than that in the nucleus in B group, while it was more concentrated in the nucleus in C and D groups., Conclusion: The secretion of stress hormones could be attenuated by hibernation drugs. The plasma cytokine levels and the nuclear translocation of NF-kappaB in PBMCs could also be modulated by the drugs.
