Abstract

O-Specific polysaccharide composed of L-rhamnose and 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-D-mannose was obtained on mild acid degradation of P. aeruginosa X (Meitert classification) lipopolysaccharide. On the basis of non-destructive analis using 1H, 13C NMR spectroscopy and Klyne's rule calculation, as well as chemical methods (acid hydrolysis, methylation, Smith degradation), it was established that the polysaccharide is built up of disaccharide repeating units of the following structure: ----4)-alpha-L-Rha-(1----3)-beta-D-ManNAc-(1----.

Abstract

A comparative study has revealed the identity of the amino acid composition of the peptide part of peptidoglycans obtained from the intact cells (the first method) and of the amino acid composition of peptidoglycans isolated from cell walls (the second method). This evidences for the possibility of using the first method when determining types of peptidoglycans for diagnosis of the coryneform bacteria genera.

Abstract

A comparative study of the mitogenic activity of glycopolymers has shown that the activity of polysaccharides isolated from Clavibacter michiganense is higher than that of lipopolysaccharide of Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas solanacearum and mefenaminic acid (the synthetic mitogen). Lipid A and the core oligosaccharide fraction are established to be responsible for the mitogenic activity of the P. solanacearum lipopolysaccharide. O-specific chains and fractions of KDO-phosphates do not manifest the mitogenic activity.
