Self-service analytics refers to systems where business users are able to access relevant data, investigate data history/relationships, perform statistical and other types of analyses, and prepare their own visualizations. This allows business analysts/users to do their job without requiring support from the IT organization, thereby facilitating data democratization. Traditional business intelligence (BI) tools are not ideal for the task described above as they struggle to connect data from the wide range of industrial process data source types and integrate it into a model that is BOTH accessible to, AND understandable by, the broadest range of users in the organization. These platforms still require a degree of design and support expertise that is accessible to only a select subset of people in the organization; they do not fully enable data democratization yet. An alternative approach is to use software that is designed to work efficiently with data ranging from real-time process monitoring, process historian, relational, web services, big data, structured data files, and many other structured and semi-structured data sources. This paper describes an approach whereby operations intelligence software is used to connect disparate data sources, organize information, and provide visualization in a context that makes it accessible and understandable by users of any discipline in the organization. The openness and accessibility of operations intelligence software allows the layering on of advanced simulation and modeling, advanced analytics, and many other types of advanced information platforms, further extending the capability and comprehensibility of the information in any direction the user groups desire. It truly democratizes the data to empower the widest range of people to both contribute to the data AND benefit from it. In order to address the challenge of democratizing access to data, we will review the first steps required to get there: data aggregation and contextualization. We will explore how this powerful tool set leverages the concept of contextualization to frame data housed in complex data models in different ways for the benefit of different audiences. We will follow through with extending this benefit of contextualization to provide access to users who want information from advanced data processing platforms, such as simulators and analytics platforms, without actually needing to have expertise in using these advanced platforms. Finally, we will explore "self-service analytics." The proliferation of self-help BI dashboarding tools in the marketplace would lead one to believe that this is not a new concept, and indeed it is not new from the perspective of classic enterprise BI applications. What makes it exciting and new to this audience is the opportunities that are opening up to leverage these self-serve toolsets in the context of industrial owner operators. A properly implemented self-help toolset that is designed for, and caters to, the industrial business will enable engineers and non-data science experts to conduct their own investigations using process data as well as any other type of data. As a result, industrial business users are easily empowered to extract and understand the substantial value hidden in the insights their data contain. The architecture required to provide this solution, along with the many advantages it provides, will be discussed in the paper.

Objective:In 2015, beverages were removed from display at a self-service café within a major health service, resulting in fewer purchases of unhealthy beverages. This initiative was continued following initial evaluation of the results. The current study aimed to determine customer acceptability of the initiative, and whether healthier purchases had continued, at 18 months following implementation.Design:Drinks were categorised as ‘green’ (best choices), ‘amber’ (choose carefully) and ‘red’ (limit), based on the state government nutrient profiling system, for intervention and analysis purposes. In 2015, unhealthy ‘red’ drinks were removed from display. In 2017, weekly beverage sales were counted, through stock-taking, for 6 weeks, and customer surveys were conducted over 2 days.Setting:A café located within a major Victorian health service.Participants:Café customers (hospital staff, patients and visitors).Results:Eighteen months after the implementation of the initiative, the proportion of ‘red’ beverages sold was 7 % of total drink sales (compared with 33 % before the removal of unhealthy beverages from display in 2015 (P < 0·001), and 10 % immediately following the removal of unhealthy beverages from display). Customer surveys revealed high levels of acceptability for the initiative and low levels of awareness of the initiative.Conclusions:The removal of unhealthy beverages from display can result in customers making healthier purchases, and this appears to continue over the long-term. Such interventions have the potential to contribute to the sustained shift in population purchases and consumption needed to make meaningful improvements to population health.

Several businesses use self-service technology to help customers check-out and make payment without interacting with a cashier. Amazon also encourages this concept and uses Amazon Go technology on a customer's smartphone which automatically detects a customer profile using Artificial Intelligence. There have been very few studies conducted on self-service technology like Just Walk Out from Amazon Go in Thailand with the purpose of encouraging willingness to use. This paper focuses on a conceptual framework of self-service technology with willingness to use based on Technology Acceptance Model, Customer Satisfaction, Service Quality, Technological Innovativeness, Technology Anxiety at supermarkets in Thailand. Ultimately, this will provide profound insights into factors that influence willingness to use self-service technology at supermarkets in Thailand from the questionnaire which has tested the reliability and validity by using the Cronbach's alpha.

Little is known about self-service socialisation and the resource integration process that may transpire when customers help other less-skilled customers with self-services. Insight into these matters is important as the process may affect other customers’ skill development and ability to contribute meaningfully to value co-creation in the service ecosystem. Accordingly, this research develops a conceptual framework and four research propositions outlining customers’ resource integration approaches towards other customers during socialisation and service exchange, as informed by their institutions endorsing either self-reliant or compliant practices. Insight is also provided into the extent to which the resource integration approaches (transpiring against the background of customers’ engagement with firms’ self-service resources) may enable other customers to participate in meaningful service exchanges in the service ecosystem. Effectively, the framework advances business understandings of the distinct roles that customers may perform when socialising other customers about self-services.

Due to the increasing numbers of cars in cities, organizations of parking zones and fees are crucial to the efficient functioning of traffic in cities. For most urban areas, the number of parking spaces, especially on-street parking, is usually not enough. On-street parking is the most common form of parking in cities. There are several ways for on-street parking payments such as special parking vouchers, text messages via mobile phones, special smartphone applications, self-service parking machines, and parking meters. Over 95% of the on-street parking in the world is paid by parking meters and self-service parking machines. In order for constant improvement of the parking services, one approach is by extending the functionality of self-service parking machines with the introduction of new technologies. This paper describes the support for on-street parking payment systems, by introducing new parking kiosk (self-service parking machine) that can be easily integrated with other parking payment systems in the cities.

Over the last decades technology based solutions has overtaken and replaced many manual functions in corporate service providing companies. Still more companies are expanding their services to be partly or fully technology based. It is safe to say a well known phenomenon among companies who aim at minimizing employee costs and incorporate the consumer in the service exchange to a greater extent. For companies that facilitate self-service technology the interaction between the customer and employee is limited and sometimes totally absent. In this master thesis, I have illuminated how value is created in self-service interactions and how it differs from conventional non-technological interactions. To explore this, I have operated with concepts of value creation and examined how value (co)-creation and value (co)-destruction evolves when a service providing company interact with the customer through self-service. Throughout the development of my analytical model I have shown systematically how the consumer enables value through technological service interactions, as well as I have gained important insight on what elements that are central for the customers value creating process. Finally, I have discussed how McDonald´s in the future can develope and facilitate the use of DinMcDonald´s so the self-service technology to a better extent support the customers creation of value through value-in-use.

Self-service Business Intelligence (SSBI) is an upcoming trend allowing non-technical casual users to use Business Intelligence (BI) in a self-reliant manner without the support of technical power users. Many organizations struggle to utilize the potential of SSBI and experience data-related and user-related SSBI implementations challenges. This study aimed at exploring user-related SSBI challenges by conducting and analyzing a total of 30 qualitative interviews with 5 BI consultants and 10 customer representatives involved in 2 SSBI implementation project teams. Analysis of the interviews revealed ten challenges related to “self-reliant users”, seven challenges related to “creating SSBI reports” and five challenges related to “SSBI education”, which differ considerably from SSBI challenges commonly discussed in literature. Awareness of these 22 challenges can help practitioners to avoid unnecessary obstacles when implementing and using SSBI, and guide SSBI researchers in simplifying the implementation process of SSBI. Data visualization is a powerful tool for value creation in business. This short article helps managers frame the opportunities for value creation, recognize the amplifiers of value, and avoid a key pitfall.

As an effective tool to alleviate the phenomenon of hospital queuing, the medical self-service terminal is used by the majority of hospitals. Due to the decline of physical function and learning ability, the elderly people have the psychological exclusion of new technology, and generally have difficulties in the use of medical self-service terminals. To raise the utilization rate of medical self-service terminals among elderly patients, this study analyzed the obstacles of elderly people using medical self-service terminals through field observation of elderly people’s operation behaviors in different hospitals. This paper discusses the design of the medical self-service terminal for the elderly from four aspects: humanized design of hardware, interface visibility, operation process, and operation feedback. This paper proposes an improved method to make the operation process of medical self-service terminal more convenient, ameliorate the fault tolerance rate, and make the interface conform to the cognitive characteristics of the elderly. At the same time, humanistic care should be added to meet the emotional needs of the elderly. The research results can ameliorate the design of the medical self-service terminal, raise the utilization rate of the elderly so that the elderly can also enjoy the convenience of self-service.

Self-service site creation allows users with certain rights to create a site collection under a defined path. Like the preceding versions, SharePoint 2019 supports self-service site creation. However, SharePoint Server 2019 has gone beyond the normal self-service site creation and offers new features.

This research is based on a self-service petrol pump using automation technology. In recent times petrol pump is operated by manpower for its operation which is time-consuming. This system solves the problem by using less manpower and helping in the time reduction. This system uses Arduino as the main unit for controlling the system. Other components comprise of RFID, Display and a keypad. RFID used for authentication of authorized access. In the future, it can be more advanced by connecting the control system with a database that will help in operating the system from the server-side. Besides that, a money accepting machine should be attached to the system as most of the customers prefer to pay using money in order to purchase the petrol rather than using RFID.

Knowledge Discovery (KD) and Data Mining are two well-known and still growing fields that, with the advancements of data collection and storage technologies, emerged and expanded with great strength by the many possibilities and benefits that exploring and analyzing data can bring. However, it is a task that requires great domain expertise to really achieve its full potential. Furthermore, it is an activity which is done mainly by data experts who know little about specific domains, like the healthcare sector, for example. Thus, in this research, we propose means for allowing domain experts from the medical domain (e.g. doctors and nurses) to also be actively part of the Knowledge Discovery process, focusing in the Data Preparation phase, and use the specific domain knowledge that they have in order to start unveiling useful information from the data. Hence, a guideline based on the CRISP-DM framework, in the format of methods fragments is proposed to guide these professionals through the KD process.

The growth of self-service technologies (SST) has continued to change the nature of services. Many service providers have adopted a wide range of technologies to allow customers to participate in the service production. Some examples of self-service technologies (SSTs) include applications such as ATMs, Internet shopping, self-checkout at airports, and self-pumping at gas stations (Meuter et al. 2000). The SSTs enable both customers and service providers to get and provide better and efficient services. Despite increasing popularity of this trend, very little seems to be known about consumers’ perceived challenges when they are involved in this process. The current research addresses an important question: Do SSTs always produce better outcomes to customers?

College students must not only master the professional knowledge they have learned, but also learn to interact with others. Due to various pressures, the psychological burden of students is also increasing. The service to students’ mental health is imminent. In the era of big data, information is diversified, so it is necessary to mine the information suitable for students’characteristics from the massive information. In view of the above problems, in the era of big data, this paper proposes data mining technology and mental health self-service system in Colleges and universities to achieve innovative service effect. By applying K-means clustering algorithm to data mining, it is found that 58.6% of the students choose self-resolution or let it go naturally when they encounter psychological problems. This paper further gives suggestions on the object-oriented, content and technology of mental health self-service in order to realize the innovation of mental health self-service system in Universities in the era of big data and provide reference for mental health service.

Data Warehouse (DW) and OLAP systems are acknowledged as first citizens of Business Intelligence (BI) technologies, allowing the on-line analysis of huge volumes of data. However, traditional data-driven BI might not be enough to compete in the context of Industry 4.0, since the collection and analysis of data from the Internet of Things (IoT) requires a more responsive approach. Therefore, in this work, we present a new design methodology for Self-Service DW with On-Demand IoT Data, which is accompanied by a new UML profile for Stream Data Warehouses based on IoT data.

The bachelor's thesis consists of two parts: theoretical and practical research. The theoretical part was developed by analysing the conditions of self-development and the impact on the child's development (Pesau, Widyorine & Sumijah, 2020; Anhmetzyanova, 2014; Yurtsever & Kilickaya, 2014); developmental peculiarities of 3-4-year-old children (Erikson, 1963; Opper, 1996) and the acquisition of self-service skills based on the theory of self-determination (Deci & Ryan, 1985, 2013), as well as authors' works and sources of information. In top tertiary hospitals situated in big cities in China, long registration wait times, payment and short treatment times are common problems due to the considerable number of patients. For this reason, self-service terminals are introduced by hospitals to shorten waiting time and improve patients’ medical experience. In order to improve the quality of outpatient service reasonably and effectively, this paper used the qualitative and quantitative methods to study the interface of self-service terminal. The research combined Kansei Engineering theory with Service Design theory to make the perceptual evaluation of self-service terminal interface and improve the service content. Firstly, the perceptual vocabularies were collected from the literature of medical self-service system research, and the interface samples were collected from the self-service terminals used by public hospitals in Beijing, Shanghai and other big cities. Secondly, through the discussion of the expert group, the words with no obvious characterization were deleted, then the questionnaire method was used to screen out the high-frequency words and representative interfaces. Thirdly, the vocabularies and samples were integrated into a perceptual evaluation scale of the interface of self-service terminals. The research used factor analysis method to process the collected data from the questionnaire survey and summarized the significant perceptual vocabularies. Finally, combining with the field research of the hospitals, this paper discussed and analyzed the interface elements of the self-service system, and summarized an improvement strategy. It is to improve the readability of the interface, optimize the logic of interface interaction and strengthen the interface guidance.

Following a large worldwide uptake of digital public services, several countries have turned to mandatory digitization, whereby citizens or companies must use digital self-service applications to apply for public services. However, previous research on the adoption of digital public services has predominantly focused on simple, or even hypothetical, services and situations. We identify a knowledge gap concerning citizens experience of actual interactions with digital self-service for more complicated social services and benefits. Therefore, we explore digital self-service from the perspective of citizens using the concept of administrative burden as a theoretical lens. Specifically, we analyze data from in-depth empirical studies encompassing observations, interviews, and focus group discussions with single mothers who have applied for public benefits following divorce or family separation. We present a descriptive process model for citizens application for public benefits. Next, we illustrate how digital self-service influences citizens administrative burden throughout this process. An important contribution reveals that citizens administrative burden increases-they must learn how to complete tasks that professional caseworkers previously conducted and comply with government demands concerning digital selfservice applications and specific data formats. However, digital self-service can also reduce citizens administrative burden through the online provision of information and automatic data transfers. Further, digital selfservice offers an anonymous application process that may reduce the psychological costs and stigma associated with receiving public benefits. Finally, our research contributes new insights at the theoretical level, linking the concept of administrative burden to complex digital self-service use from a citizen perspective. Select dining of a new restaurant concept that appeared as an alternative to the global food service market, emerged at the time when differentiated competitiveness of restaurants is required for consumers due to the rapid inflow of information through various media and the entry of global food service enterprises into the market. This study theoretically reviewed and summarized the concept of food curation shop and select dining through media and the literature research, and based on it, this study attempted to analyze the characteristics and types of select dining through an actual case study. The results of the study are as follows. All select dinings in the survey were located in the downtown office market and were targeted at young employees in their 20s and 30s. The types of select dinings were divided into a single type, a separate type, and a combination type depending on the characteristics of the store establishment, order and payment system, space configuration, and service operation mode. As the space plan of select dining was based on the customer"s journey including access space, dining space, order and payment space, and cooking space, etc., and was targeted at young employees, the space design was modern and vintage and was produced in a luxurious and sophisticated atmosphere. Service and operation types were selected according to the types of self service and table service. In the future, it should be planned not with the evolved form of food court, but with menu items and designs for the differentiated concept and theme. Also, it should be reborn as a complex food service culture space to attract visitors to a variety of destinations. Also, it is advantageous to attract customers, so it solves vacancies of office buildings and raises the value of buildings, and at the same time, it helps to activate the commercial street of office street where the floating population of the weekend is small, but as shown in the complex commercial shopping mall area, it is necessary to establish a linkage strategy not only for malling inside the building, but also for coexistence with neighboring areas.

Competition in the restaurant sector is intensifying. Therefore, restaurant brands that wish to win will be those that best use modern technology to respond to their customer needs. Recently, several restaurant brands have used self-service kiosks (SSKs) as a replacement to traditional point of sale. This study aimed to examine the different predictors of customers’ behavioral intention to use SSKs . Data was collected from a sample of 316 customers who had previous experience in using SSKs. Results demonstrated that both effort expectancy and performance expectancy had a significant and positive impact of customers’ perception of value and the impact of performance expectancy was stronger. In addition, facilitating conditions, social influence and perceived value served as strong predictors of behavioral intention toward the usage of SSKs. A set of recommendations were offered for fast-food managers on how to improve customers’ intention to adopt SSKs.

Cloud computing is another innovation among many other latest technologies that enables the customers to get access to the services as per their demand. Cloud computing is getting success due to its self service nature and on demand services. It provides great flexibility to its customers as they have to pay only for those services which they are in need to use without getting worried to pay the cost of hardware and software maintenance. We are basically focusing on denial of service (DOS) in this research paper which is one of the popular attacks. It is a major reason of the inaccessibility of services and resources to the users by flooding the network and generating a lot of requests with invalid return addresses. Neoclassical economic interpretations of Payment for Environmental Services (PES), which assume that participants weigh up costs and benefits, are making room for more complex analyses. However, there is still little evidence of how PES programmes interact with existing motivations to conserve, the extent to which funded conservation is additional, and the likely permanence of changes. We categorized the outcome of contracts aiming to reduce cattle grazing in riparian forest (n = 428) and deforestation (n = 912) by Bolivian farmers in terms of whether they were unsuitable, non-compliant, non-additional, or additional (the holy grail of PES programmes) and explored the relationship between farmers' reported motivations and the extent to which the conservation funded was additional. Up to 39% of contracts to exclude cattle, and 14% to prevent deforestation appear to be additional. Where participation is motivated by the instrumental values of nature (such as provision of clean water) contracts to exclude cattle from riparian forest are more likely to represent additional conservation. We suggest that the programme is partly acting as what we term ‘payment for environmental self-service’; i.e. the external incentives enable changes in behaviour motivated by farmers' perceptions of environmental benefits they receive from the management changes incentivized.

In the current context of work increasingly characterized by distance and geographic dispersion, we try in this chapter to understand the process of interaction between the remote management and the accomplishment of the social link in the modern societies. The study centers over two years of the life of a gas station, franchised, to obtain a deep understanding of the effect of the remote managing on the social link in an organizational context relatively isolated in the time and space.

As the cost of sequencing drops rapidly, the amount of ‘omics data increases exponentially, making data visualization and interpretation—‘tertiary‘ analysis a bottleneck. Specialized analytical tools requiring technical expertise are available. However, consolidated and multi-faceted tools that are easy to use for life scientists is highly needed and currently lacking. Here we present Omics Playground, a user-friendly and interactive self-service bioinformatics platform for the in-depth analysis, visualization and interpretation of transcriptomics and proteomics data. It provides a large number of different tools in which special attention has been paid to single cell data. With Omics Playground, life scientists can easily perform complex data analysis and visualization without coding, and significantly reduce the time to discovery.

In response to the rapid development of technology, retailers increasingly consider innovative and interactive technological interfaces such as self-service technologies (SSTs) in the service delivery. The SST implies that people themselves perform tasks using technologies without direct personal assistance in the consumption context. Among various types of SST, retail self-checkouts have grown at a fast pace over the past five years. Yet not many studies have been conducted to understand younger customers' intention to use the self-checkout system in developing countries. This paper aims to understand how attitudes, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control, and technologies anxiety affect university students' intention to use the self-service checkout system, predicated on the theory of planned behavior. A set of hypotheses were developed. A total of 141 responses were collected from university students in Sunway University Malaysia over a two-week time frame. Data analysis was performed using Smart PLS. The use of partial least squares (PLS) is appropriate for exploratory studies of this type. Overall, the TPB-based model is useful in explaining younger consumers' intention to use the self-checkout system. Findings from this study contribute to the literature by exploring what drives younger consumers, especially higher education of university students to use the self-checkout system.

Does comfort in a restaurant influence people's experienced hospitality? Effects of seating comfort and acoustic comfort on the experience of hospitality were examined by means of a 2 x 2 between subjects experiment among 262 customers of a self-service restaurant, using the EH-scale measuring the experiential factors care, comfort and inviting. In line with theory on embodiment, MANOVA and mediation analysis showed that comfortable seating positively influences mental comfort, which subsequently increases the experience of hospitality (comfort factor). Extra ambient sound (acoustic discomfort) cancels out this effect. Also, people's desire to sit matters: people with a low desire to sit interpret comfortable seats as more caring instead of comfort. Regarding the discussion on (dis)comfort: seating comfort, not discomfort, accounted for the effects. Altogether, the hospitality experienced in a restaurant may be enhanced by offering comfortable seats, making customers feel more comfortable, physically and mentally.

An ideal library makes every last patron feels what it is like to have their own library where one can traverse a world of knowledge, and then build their personal learning environment. Parallel to this conception is the intensification of fine-tuning the conventional librarianship to transform it into a center for new digital learning. As a contribution to this digital revolution, this paper presents an innovative way of renovating the house of dusty books into the center of creativity, research, and partnership through the fusion of traditional librarianship, self-service solutions, and human-computer interaction. The self-service system employs technologies and modalities such as touch screen-assistive technology for the kiosk terminal with the inclusion of a built-in camera, speaker, microphone, and lights, Automatic Speech Recognition, Radio-Frequency Identification and Content-Based Image Retrieval for holdings circulation and monitoring. In conformance with the ISO 9241-210 (Human-centred design for interactive systems), a series of user-centered evaluations were accomplished to obtain early feedback, and to validate that the user requirements have been satisfied at a later stage of the project cycle. To integrate a humanistic approach, the HCSDLC, or Human-Centered Systems Development Life Cycle Methodology, was utilized to complement the four main user-centered design activities specified in the ISO 9241-210 standard. The prototype designs and final self-service library system were assessed in terms of efficiency, effectiveness, and user satisfaction using metrics defined in the ISO/IEC 25022.

Purpose This paper aims to develop a theoretical framework of archetypical customer roles in a self-service-based system by applying role theory to understand customers’ resource integration and value co-creation efforts in practice. Design/methodology/approach This study is based on a three-phase explorative case study of customers’ experiences of using self-service technologies at a furniture retailer. A total of 90 interviews were conducted. Findings Four archetypical enacted customer roles during value co-creation in a self-service-based system are identified: passive non-bothered, passive hesitant, active realist and active independent. Furthermore, it is shown that these roles shape how resources become. Research limitations/implications The challenges facing our retail practice bear similarities with those in other contexts, e.g. financial and travel industries, government or public sector service settings, in which self-service technologies are becoming more common. Therefore, this study setting enables some tentative generalizations. The case study approach, however, limits the statistical generalizability of the findings. Practical implications The importance of understanding is that not all customers are well-equipped for co-creating value through self-service. By engaging customers and offering them guidance when they encounter difficulties in managing the value co-creation process, as well as viewing them as resource integrators and value co-creators, firms can help them enact more active roles. Originality/value The archetypical customer roles contribute theoretically to detailing how resource integration and value co-creation can be shaped by enacted roles, an influence that has not been explicitly proposed in empirical service research.

GitOps lowers the bar for creating self-service versions of common IT processes, making it easier to meet the return in the ROI calculation. GitOps not only achieves this, but also encourages desired behaviors in IT systems: better testing, reduction of bus factor, reduced wait time, more infrastructure logic being handled programmatically with IaC, and directing time away from manual toil toward creating and maintaining automation.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to provide a cohesive overview of the available self-service and customer value literature, identify customer value in self-service kiosks (SSKs), and analyze this value from the customer experience perspective. Design/methodology/approach The study comprises a systematic literature review of available works on customer value. Findings The paper presents conclusions on the SSK’s technological forms, presence in industries, and conceptual state. The review also provides a cohesive inventory of customer value elements in SSKs. The in-depth analysis proposes two alternative models of the customer value creation process: linear and circular. Research limitations/implications The study reveals gaps stemming from the inconsistency and fragmented nature of previous research on customer value in SSKs. The gaps are treated as opportunities for future studies. Practical implications By identifying new sources of competitive advantage and new ways to improve customer service strategies and experience management, the findings support managerial decision making at the stages of considering, implementing, and improving SSK networks. Originality/value This study is the first to systematically review and provide an inventory of customer value elements in SSKs. It, therefore, offers new perspectives on customer value creation using self-service technology.

While retailers and other service providers are increasingly introducing self-service checkouts into stores, these technologies do not have universal appeal for consumers. The literature offers limited understanding of how self-service checkouts influence shopping practices and consumers’ experiences of the in-store environment. Using the lens of practice theory, this paper explores adoption of self-service checkouts by consumers. Semi-structured face to face interviews were used to capture consumers’ discursive accounts of their shopping practices, and to examine their interactions with self-service checkouts. Findings illustrate that unwilling customers feel a sense of social obligation to use self-service checkouts at times in order to help others. This study provides a broader appreciation of how consumers engage with self-service checkout processes, and extends understanding of how consumers manage the paradoxes that surround the introduction of in-store technologies by retailers. The managerial implications of self-service checkouts for retailers are also discussed.

PurposeOnline retailers widely use self-service parcel delivery as a solution to the last-mile logistics problems. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the factors that affect the consumer’s intention to use self-service parcel delivery service.Design/methodology/approachThe authors integrate prior research and propose a comprehensive three-factor model. The study combines individual and situational factors and proposes a socialized factor.FindingsThis study found that location convenience, optimism, innovation, and the need for human interaction positively affect the consumer’s intention to avail of the self-service parcel delivery service. It also identifies that socialized factor positively influences the consumer’s intention to use self-service parcel delivery services.Research limitations/implicationsThe test results show that the explanatory power of the individual factors of the model is better than that of the situational factors. However, this does not imply that the situational factors cannot explain the consumer behavior well. Future studies should employ additional situational factors to explain the consumer behavior.Practical implicationsThis study offers valuable theoretical and managerial implications. Delivery service providers should concentrate on their marketing force and customize their services for consumer groups who have specific individual characteristics, such as optimism and innovation.Social implicationsStrengthening service interactions in the social factor and choosing optimal locations for self-service pickup machines are also essential for the expansion of the users’ population and enhancement of service experience.Originality/valueThe authors combined situational and individual factors, proposed a socialized factor, and presented the three-factor model of the consumer’s intention to use self-service parcel delivery service.

Streaming apps are increasingly mainstream but little research exists about how users value them. This study fills that research gap by examining effects of perceived consumption values and self-identity related to streaming apps on likelihood of recommending and using streaming apps. All consumption values as well as identity salience were found to have effects on recommendation likelihood. The findings suggest that managers of streaming apps should provide consumers with a clear message about how their streaming apps provide differing consumption values to customers and find ways to ensure their streaming apps are salient to the self-identity of their customers.

This paper focuses on the way and method of constructing the intelligent network system from the aspects of the overall planning of product production and marketing intelligent network system, the design of intelligent marketing terminal system and the design of network management information system. At the same time, it points out the main security problems faced by this intelligent network system, and proposes some measures to solve the problem.

Purpose Given that smartphones are widely used as a key means for mobile commerce, the purpose of this paper is to provide in-depth understanding of determinants of the utilitarian value that customers seek to obtain from using smartphone-based mobile commerce. Drawing on the technology acceptance model (TAM), the study proposes that usefulness and ease of use are two typical factors representing utilitarian value and verifies their impacts on smartphone-based m-commerce use. Moreover, the paper expands the TAM by considering mobile-specific characteristics (i.e. service ubiquity and location-based service (LBS)) and a self-service technology (SST) characteristic (i.e. user control) as determinants of utilitarian value. Design/methodology/approach The study entailed conducting a survey, and analyses were conducted based on a total of 379 responses from undergraduate and graduate students who had experience using smartphones for mobile commerce. The analyses used structural equation modeling to test the research model and hypotheses. Findings First, in the context of the various technologies-involved m-commerce, TAM serves as a theoretical lens to predict user behavior. Second, usefulness is greatly increased by service ubiquity, LBS, and user control. Third, ease of use is enhanced by service ubiquity and user control. Finally, ease of use is a determinant of usefulness. Originality/value The findings imply that mobile-specific and SST characteristics are the key determinants of utilitarian value in performance-oriented mobile commerce, and utilitarian value is a key determinant of smartphone-based mobile commerce use.

Cloud service is a new trend in constructing enterprise applications. However, implementing cloud services is time consuming, costly, and error prone. Moreover, there are concerns about the isolation and flexibility of multitenancy cloud services. To solve these problems, we propose a novel and easy approach: CodingBlind, which automatically generates cloud services from the most commonly used printed forms and graphical business process modeling notation (BPMN). CodingBlind provides a natural solution for the deployment and migration of systems in clouds. First, printed forms are mapped onto entity-relationship models (ER models) to generate data services. States of data and a finite state machine (FSM) are constructed from the BPMN. Based on the FSM and the ER models, quadruple models for cloud services are generated. Then, a complete system package is generated according to the quadruple model. Finally, all of the components are packaged and deployed to a cloud. CodingBlind is easy to use because it only takes printed forms and BPMNs as inputs. Self-defining data and business logic make the generated cloud services flexible. Moreover, the business logic is strictly controlled by the FSM, which provides natural isolation for cloud applications. Case studies and experiments are conducted to assess the proposed approach, and the results show that it is feasible, convenient, and flexible.

 Organizational aesthetics is a new area of organizational study and relates with a form of human knowledge which a person develops by using his five senses including hearing, sight, touch, taste, and smell. This knowledge of a person is associated with developing a perception about an organization, its purpose, main values, etc. Aesthetics shapes emotions, attitudes, and behavior of people. The aim of this research is to evaluate aesthetics of different service level of retailers of convenience products. Such evaluation of aesthetics of retailers based on service level would become the basis of evaluation of how each option generates value for the customers. Such knowledge will be useful for the organizational decision makers and they can use it to select/adjust service level with the desired level of value. In order to achieve the stated aim, a scientific research was carried out by the researchers. The researchers used case study research methods to analyze the dynamics of retail sales level in order to evaluate related aesthetics. The purpose was to evaluate, contrast and compare the aesthetics of different service levels (self-service, assorted-service, and full-service). The data collected during this research project was exclusively carried out for this research project only and was collected during the month of March 2016. Data was collected from different countries including United States of America and Pakistan. The findings of the research uncovered that style of three diverse retail benefit levels change in view of; design of retail outlet, comfort-related with each type of outlet, cleanliness, basic leadership process, impact of sales representatives, self-rule of purchaser in choosing items/administrations, cost of operations to retailer, speed of administration, assortment looking for conduct, music, sound and video in retail condition, capacity to counsel others, chance to feel items, level of instruction, chance to retailer of association and gaining from clients and shopping at claim speed. Retailers should choose their retailing technique (self-benefit retailing, full-benefit retailing and e-retailer) after a watchful investigation of these variables.
