In this paper, among other results, we give some sufficient conditions for every non-abelian subgroup of a group to be isoclinic with the group itself. It is also seen that under certain conditions, two groups have same number of element centralizers implies they are isoclinic. We prove that if $G$ is any group having $4, 5, 7$ or $9$ element centralizers and $H$ is any non-abelian subgroup of $G$, then $\mid \Cent(G)\mid=\mid \Cent(H)\mid$ and $ G' \cong H' \cong C_2, C_3, C_5$ or $C_7$ respectively. Furthermore, it is proved that if $G$ is any group having $n \in \lbrace 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 \rbrace$ element centralizers, then $\mid G' \mid=n-2$.

Two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) remain a topic of immense interest. Specifically, given their low operational switching costs, they find many niche applications in new computing architectures with the promise of continued miniaturization. However, challenges lie in Back End of Line (BEOL) integration temperature and time compliance regarding current requirements for crystal growth. Additionally, deleterious and time-consuming transfer processes and multiple steps involved in channel/contact engineering can cripple device performance. This work demonstrates kinetics-governed in-situ growth regimes (surface or edge growth from gold) of WSe2 and provides a mechanistic understanding of these regimes via energetics across various material interfaces. As a proof-of-concept, field effect transistors (FET) with an in-situ grown WSe2 channel across Au contacts are fabricated, demonstrating a 2D semiconductor transistor via a transfer-free method within the 450-600 C 2h-time window requirement BEOL integration. We leverage directional edge growth to fabricate contacts with robust thickness-dependent Schottky-to-Ohmic behavior. By transitioning between Au and SiO2 growth substrates in situ, this work achieves strain-induced subthreshold swing of 140 mV/decade, relatively high mobility of 107 +- 19 cm2V-1s-1, and robust ON/OFF ratios 10^6 in the fabricated FETs., Comment: 32 pages, 5 Figures

Computer Science - Robotics - Abstract
This paper presents an optimization approach for generating custom manipulator configurations using a proposed unconventional modular library. An end-to-end solution is presented in which the resulting optimal models of the modular compositions can be integrated directly with the Robot Operating System platform. The approach utilizes an unconventional modular library, which is adaptable to a wide range of parameters for customization including non-parallel and non-perpendicular joint axes, and the unified modeling technique for getting the custom modular configurations. The single objective function optimization problem is formulated based upon the discrete parameters of reconfiguration depending upon the available modular library such as, number of joint modules, skew-twist angle, intersecting-twist angle, connection ports of the module, module size, modular sub-assembly unit and curved links. Two case studies, including an application to the agricultural vertical farms, are presented to validate the results.

The introduction of nonlinear nanophotonic devices to the field of optical frequency comb metrology has enabled new opportunities for low-power and chip-integrated clocks, high-precision frequency synthesis, and broad bandwidth spectroscopy. However, most of these advances remain constrained to the near-infrared region of the spectrum, which has restricted the integration of frequency combs with numerous quantum and atomic systems in the ultraviolet and visible. Here, we overcome this shortcoming with the introduction of multi-segment nanophotonic thin-film lithium niobate (LN) waveguides that combine engineered dispersion and chirped quasi-phase matching for efficient supercontinuum generation via the combination of $\chi^{(2)}$ and $\chi^{(3)}$ nonlinearities. With only 90 pJ of pulse energy at 1550 nm, we achieve gap-free frequency comb coverage spanning 330 to 2400 nm. The conversion efficiency from the near-infrared pump to the UV-Visible region of 350-550 nm is nearly 20%. Harmonic generation via the $\chi^{(2)}$ nonlinearity in the same waveguide directly yields the carrier-envelope offset frequency and a means to verify the comb coherence at wavelengths as short as 350 nm. Our results provide an integrated photonics approach to create visible and UV frequency combs that will impact precision spectroscopy, quantum information processing, and optical clock applications in this important spectral window.

Training Generative adversarial networks (GANs) stably is a challenging task. The generator in GANs transform noise vectors, typically Gaussian distributed, into realistic data such as images. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for training GANs with images as inputs, but without enforcing any pairwise constraints. The intuition is that images are more structured than noise, which the generator can leverage to learn a more robust transformation. The process can be made efficient by identifying closely related datasets, or a ``friendly neighborhood'' of the target distribution, inspiring the moniker, Spider GAN. To define friendly neighborhoods leveraging proximity between datasets, we propose a new measure called the signed inception distance (SID), inspired by the polyharmonic kernel. We show that the Spider GAN formulation results in faster convergence, as the generator can discover correspondence even between seemingly unrelated datasets, for instance, between Tiny-ImageNet and CelebA faces. Further, we demonstrate cascading Spider GAN, where the output distribution from a pre-trained GAN generator is used as the input to the subsequent network. Effectively, transporting one distribution to another in a cascaded fashion until the target is learnt -- a new flavor of transfer learning. We demonstrate the efficacy of the Spider approach on DCGAN, conditional GAN, PGGAN, StyleGAN2 and StyleGAN3. The proposed approach achieves state-of-the-art Frechet inception distance (FID) values, with one-fifth of the training iterations, in comparison to their baseline counterparts on high-resolution small datasets such as MetFaces, Ukiyo-E Faces and AFHQ-Cats., Comment: CVPR 2023

Nowadays, people use electricity in all aspects of their lives so that electricity consumption increases gradually. There can be wastage of electricity due to various reasons, such as human negligence, daylighting, etc. Hence, conservation of energy is the need of the day. This paper deals with the fabrication of an "Automated Power Conservation System (APCS)" that has multiple benefits like saving on power consumption there by saving on electricity bills of the organization, eliminating human involvement and manpower which is often required to manually toggle the lights and electrical devices on/off, and last but most importantly conserve the precious natural resources by reducing electrical energy consumption. Two IR sensors are used in this project and these two sensors are used for detecting the presence of a person in the classroom. When the existence of the person is detected by the APCS it automatically turns on the fans and lights in that classroom and during the absence they will be automatically turned off, thus paving the easiest way to conserve power. This hardware is integrated with the Android app, where the user can get data on his smartphone regarding the number of fans and lights that are turned on at a particular instance of time. The user can also switch on/off the fans and lights from anywhere in the world by using the Android App., Comment: 8 Pages

Computer Science - Networking and Internet Architecture - Abstract
Internet of Things (IoT) consists of a wide variety of devices with limited power sources. Due to the adhered reason, energy consumption is considered as one of the major challenges in the IoT environment. In this research article, an attempt is made to optimize the existing Routing Protocol (RPL) towards a green technology. It focuses on finding the most significant parameter in the RPL using Taguchi Design of Experiments. It emphasizes the effects of five input factors, such as Network Size, Mobility Speed, DIO_DOUBLING, DIO_MIN_INTERVAL, and Redundancy Constant on only one output parameter Power Consumption. The findings show that DIO_MIN_INTERVAL is the leading factor that has a significant effect on the power consumption in RPL. After determining the most significant factor that affects the power consumption, measures can be taken to optimize the performance of RPL by applying some optimization techniques. Computer Science - Networking and Internet Architecture - Abstract
In Internet of Things (IoT), the simple IPv6 capable electronic devices with limited hardware resources like memory and power resources are called constrained devices. Congestion is a major issue in network communications of these devices. To solve congestion in networks of constrained devices, Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) had designed Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP). CoAP deals congestion with a basic Congestion Control (CC) mechanism called Default CoAP. Afterward, CoCoA and CoCoA+, an Internet-draft-recommendations, has been introduced as the elective CC mechanisms for CoAP. However, limited evaluations had done on these CC mechanisms of CoAP. In this paper, the performance evaluation of Default CoAP, CoCoA, and CoCoA+ Congestion control mechanisms are evaluated through Simulations in different network topologies and varied in different Link Delivery Ratios (LDR) of sensor nodes in constant traffic scenario by using Cooja Simulator. The simulation results are generated and CoCoA+ shows a better performance in constant traffic scenario comparing to Default CoAP and CoCoA., Comment: 12 Pages

Computer Science - Networking and Internet Architecture - Abstract
The main theme of this paper is to implement the mobility model in Cooja simulator and to investigate the impact of the mobility on the performance of Routing Protocol over Low power Lossy networks (RPL) in the IoT environment. In the real world, mobility occurs frequently. Therefore in this paper, a frequently used mobility model -- Random Way Point (RWP) is used for analysis. RWP can be readily applied to many existing applications. By default, the Cooja simulator does not support mobility models. For this, the Bonn Motion is introduced into Cooja as a plugin. As IoT deals with the resource-constrained environment, a comparison is done between the static environment and the mobile environment in terms of power consumption. As expected, the results indicate that mobility affects the RPL in terms of Power Consumption., Comment: 15 Pages

Astrophysics - Astrophysics of Galaxies - Abstract
We present the first measurement of the HI mass function (HIMF) using data from MeerKAT, based on 276 direct detections from the MIGHTEE Survey Early Science data covering a period of approximately a billion years ($0 \leq z \leq 0.084 $). This is the first HIMF measured using interferometric data over non-group or cluster field, i.e. a deep blank field. We constrain the parameters of the Schechter function which describes the HIMF with two different methods: $1/\rm V_{\rm max}$ and Modified Maximum Likelihood (MML). We find a low-mass slope $\alpha=-1.29^{+0.37}_{-0.26}$, `knee' mass $\log_{10}(M_{*}/{\rm M_{\odot}}) = 10.07^{+0.24}_{-0.24}$ and normalisation $\log_{10}(\phi_{*}/\rm Mpc^{-3})=-2.34^{+0.32}_{-0.36}$ ($H_0 = 67.4$ kms$^{-1}$ Mpc$^{-1}$) for $1/\rm V_{\rm max}$ and $\alpha=-1.44^{+0.13}_{-0.10}$, `knee' mass $\log_{10}(M_{*}/{\rm M_{\odot}}) = 10.22^{+0.10}_{-0.13}$ and normalisation $\log_{10}(\phi_{*}/\rm Mpc^{-3})=-2.52^{+0.19}_{-0.14}$ for MML. When using $1/\rm V_{\rm max}$ we find both the low-mass slope and `knee' mass to be consistent within $1\sigma$ with previous studies based on single-dish surveys. The cosmological mass density of HI is found to be slightly larger than previously reported: $\Omega_{\rm HI}=5.46^{+0.94}_{-0.99} \times 10^{-4}h^{-1}_{67.4}$ from $1/\rm V_{\rm max}$ and $\Omega_{\rm HI}=6.31^{+0.31}_{-0.31} \times 10^{-4}h^{-1}_{67.4}$ from MML but consistent within the uncertainties. We find no evidence for evolution of the HIMF over the last billion years., Comment: 13 pages, 9 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS

Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory cardiovascular disease in which fatty plaque is built inside an artery wall. Early atherosclerotic plaque development is typically characterised by inflammatory tissues primarily consisting of foam cells and macrophages. We present a multiphase model that explores early plaque growth to emphasise the role of cytokines (in particular, Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein-1) and oxidised low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL) in monocyte recruitment and foam cell production, respectively. The plaque boundary is assumed to move at the same speed as the inflammatory tissues close to the periphery. This study discusses oxLDL-induced toxic environment towards macrophages and foam cells such that they start to die beyond a threshold limit of oxLDL concentration owing to excessive consumption. Our findings reveal that initially, the plaque evolves rapidly, and the growth rate subsequently reduces because of oxLDL-induced toxicity. In addition, it is observed that the saturation of inflammatory cell volume fraction becomes independent of oxLDL concentration beyond the threshold limit, referred to as the oxLDL toxicity limit. Our study manifests that increased oxLDL flux promotes flattened plaque growth through oxLDL-induced toxicity, while elevated cytokines flux disrupts the corresponding flattened behaviour. Detailed analysis of the model presented in this article unfolds critical insights into the various biochemical and cellular mechanisms behind early plaque development.

Physics - Optics - Abstract
Frequency combs with mode spacing in the range of 10 to 20 gigahertz (GHz) are critical for increasingly important applications such as astronomical spectrograph calibration, high-speed dual-comb spectroscopy, and low-noise microwave generation. While electro-optic modulators and microresonators can provide narrowband comb sources at this repetition rate, a significant remaining challenge is a means to produce pulses with sufficient peak power to initiate nonlinear supercontinuum generation spanning hundreds of terahertz (THz) as required for self-referencing in these applications. Here, we provide a simple, robust, and universal solution to this problem using off-the-shelf polarization-maintaining (PM) amplification and nonlinear fiber components. This fiber-integrated approach for nonlinear temporal compression and supercontinuum generation is demonstrated with a resonant electro-optic frequency comb at 1550 nm. We show how to readily achieve pulses shorter than 60 fs at a repetition rate of 20 GHz and with peak powers in excess of 2 kW. The same technique can be applied to picosecond pulses at 10 GHz to demonstrate temporal compression by a factor of 9x yielding 50 fs pulses with peak power of 5.5 kW. These compressed pulses enable flat supercontinuum generation spanning more than 600 nm after propagation through multi-segment dispersion-tailored anomalous-dispersion highly nonlinear fiber (HNLF) or tantala waveguides. The same 10 GHz source can readily achieve an octave-spanning spectrum for self-referencing in dispersion-engineered silicon nitride waveguides. This simple all-fiber approach to nonlinear spectral broadening fills a critical gap for transforming any narrowband 10 to 20 GHz frequency comb into a broadband spectrum for a wide range of applications that benefit from the high pulse rate and require access to the individual comb modes., Comment: 15 pages, 11 figures

The Internet of Things (IoT) has taken the interconnected world by storm. Due to their immense applicability, IoT devices are being scaled at exponential proportions worldwide. But, very little focus has been given to securing such devices. As these devices are constrained in numerous aspects, it leaves network designers and administrators with no choice but to deploy them with minimal or no security at all. We have seen distributed denial-of-service attacks being raised using such devices during the infamous Mirai botnet attack in 2016. Therefore we propose a lightweight authentication protocol to provide proper access to such devices. We have considered several aspects while designing our authentication protocol, such as scalability, movement, user registration, device registration, etc. To define the architecture we used a three-layered model consisting of cloud, fog, and edge devices. We have also proposed several pre-existing cipher suites based on post-quantum cryptography for evaluation and usage. We also provide a fail-safe mechanism for a situation where an authenticating server might fail, and the deployed IoT devices can self-organize to keep providing services with no human intervention. We find that our protocol works the fastest when using ring learning with errors. We prove the safety of our authentication protocol using the automated validation of Internet security protocols and applications tool. In conclusion, we propose a safe, hybrid, and fast authentication protocol for authenticating IoT devices in a fog computing environment.

Abstract Results are presented from a search for new physics in high-mass diphoton events from proton-proton collisions at s $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 13 TeV. The data set was collected in 2016–2018 with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb −1. Events with a diphoton invariant mass greater than 500 GeV are considered. Two different techniques are used to predict the standard model backgrounds: parametric fits to the smoothly-falling background and a first-principles calculation of the standard model diphoton spectrum at next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics calculations. The first technique is sensitive to resonant excesses while the second technique can identify broad differences in the invariant mass shape. The data are used to constrain the production of heavy Higgs bosons, Randall-Sundrum gravitons, the large extra dimensions model of Arkani-Hamed, Dimopoulos, and Dvali (ADD), and the continuum clockwork mechanism. No statistically significant excess is observed. The present results are the strongest limits to date on ADD extra dimensions and RS gravitons with a coupling parameter greater than 0.1.

Abstract Human interleukin-33 (IL-33) is a 270 amino acid protein that belongs to the IL-1 cytokine family and plays an important role in various inflammatory disorders. Neutrophil proteases (Cathepsin G and Elastase) and mast cell proteases (tryptase and chymase) regulate the activity of IL-33 by processing full-length IL-33 into its mature form. There is little evidence on the role of these mature forms of IL-33 in retinal endothelial cell signaling and pathological retinal angiogenesis. Here, we cloned, expressed, and purified the various mature forms of human IL-33 and then evaluated the effects of IL-3395-270, IL-3399-270, IL-33109-270, and IL-33112-270 on angiogenesis in human retinal microvascular endothelial cells (HRMVECs). We observed that IL-3395-270, IL-3399-270, IL-33109-270, and IL-33112-270 significantly induced HRMVEC migration, tube formation and sprouting angiogenesis. However, only IL-3399-270 could induce HRMVEC proliferation. We used a murine model of oxygen-induced retinopathy (OIR) to assess the role of these mature forms of IL-33 in pathological retinal neovascularization. Our 3′-mRNA sequencing and signaling studies indicated that IL-3399-270 and IL-33109-270 were more potent at inducing endothelial cell activation and angiogenesis than the other mature forms. We found that genetic deletion of IL-33 significantly reduced OIR-induced retinal neovascularization in the mouse retina and that intraperitoneal administration of mature forms of IL-33, mainly IL-3399–270 and IL-33109–270, significantly restored ischemia-induced angiogenic sprouting and tuft formation in the hypoxic retinas of IL-33–/– mice. Thus, our study results suggest that blockade or inhibition of IL-33 cleavage by neutrophil proteases could help mitigate pathological angiogenesis in proliferative retinopathies.

Objective: To assess the factors associated with knowledge, attitude and behavior of contraception use among urban slum population in Chennai. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in the urban slum of Anakaputhur, Chennai. Married couples between ages of 19-49 years and living in slum areas were taken up for the study by simple random sampling. Pregnant women, postnatal and postmenopausal women were excluded from the study. Data collection was done using a pretested structured questionnaire focusing on details regarding contraception knowledge, attitude, and practices. Data analysis was done using IBM SPSS version 22. Analytical test like Chi square and odds ratio (OR) were used to identify association between knowledge, attitude, and behavior of contraception with the associated variables and enter method of logistic regression analysis was done. Results: Out of the 360 respondents, 228 were females, with a mean age of (34±5) years. Approximately 43% demonstrated adequate knowledge of contraception use, and 91% were aware of at least one contraceptive method. Notably, 72% exhibited a positive attitude towards contraceptive use. Nevertheless, 43% (155 individuals) did not utilize any contraceptive method. Among contraceptive users, intrauterine devices were the most commonly adopted, followed by barrier methods and female sterilization. There was significant association between knowledge of contraception and education (aOR 7.29, 95% CI 2.93-18.10, P

Abstract Measurements of the charge-dependent two-particle angular correlation function in proton-lead (pPb) collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of s NN $$ \sqrt{s_{\textrm{NN}}} $$ = 8.16 TeV and lead-lead (PbPb) collisions at s NN $$ \sqrt{s_{\textrm{NN}}} $$ = 5.02 TeV are reported. The pPb and PbPb data sets correspond to integrated luminosities of 186 nb −1 and 0.607 nb −1, respectively, and were collected using the CMS detector at the CERN LHC. The charge-dependent correlations are characterized by balance functions of same- and opposite-sign particle pairs. The balance functions, which contain information about the creation time of charged particle pairs and the development of collectivity, are studied as functions of relative pseudorapidity (∆η) and relative azimuthal angle (∆ϕ), for various multiplicity and transverse momentum (p T) intervals. A multiplicity dependence of the balance function is observed in ∆η and ∆ϕ for both systems. The width of the balance functions decreases towards high-multiplicity collisions in the momentum region < 2 GeV, for pPb and PbPb results. Integrals of the balance functions are presented in both systems, and a mild dependence of the charge-balancing fractions on multiplicity is observed. No multiplicity dependence is observed at higher transverse momentum. The data are compared with hydjet, hijing, and ampt generator predictions, none of which capture completely the multiplicity dependence seen in the data. The comparison of results with different center-of-mass energies suggests that the balance functions become narrower at higher energies, which is consistent with the idea of delayed hadronization and the effect of radial flow.

We present a numerical study for Poiseuille and Couette as well as Taylor- Couette swirling flows. The governing equations of momentum and energy are transformed into coupled and nonlinear ordinary differential equations using similarity transformation and then solved numerically. We critically evaluate the effect of dimensionless pressure gradients on fluid velocity and observed that the velocity increases as the dimensionless pressure gradient increases. Couette flows are simulated in different scenarios, including top plate moving, bottom plate moving, and top plate moving in adverse pressure gradient conditions. In a third scenario, the flow velocity profile revealed a backflow regime (BFR). A simple schematic model is, therefore, proposed to explain the presence of BFR in the flow’s profile. Numerical and analytical solutions around the circular cylinder are presented. The marginal discrepancy between the analytical and numerical profiles is maximum at ~ 900 and 2700 degrees, which indicates that the chosen method is suitable and capable of reproducing engineering problems. Velocity magnitude and vector diagrams show that the cylinder shape was found to have a significant effect on the flow field. The velocity at the top and bottom of the cylinder is twice the velocity that seen away from the cylinder.

Science - Abstract
Abstract Correctly identifying perturbed biological pathways is a critical step in uncovering basic disease mechanisms and developing much-needed therapeutic strategies. However, whether current tools are optimal for unbiased discovery of relevant pathways remains unclear. Here, we create “Benchmark” to critically evaluate existing tools and find that most function sub-optimally. We thus develop the “Pathway Ensemble Tool” (PET), which outperforms existing methods. Deploying PET, we identify prognostic pathways across 12 cancer types. PET-identified prognostic pathways offer additional insights, with genes within these pathways serving as reliable biomarkers for clinical outcomes. Additionally, normalizing these pathways using drug repurposing strategies represents therapeutic opportunities. For example, the top predicted repurposed drug for bladder cancer, a CDK2/9 inhibitor, represses cell growth in vitro and in vivo. We anticipate that using Benchmark and PET for unbiased pathway discovery will offer additional insights into disease mechanisms across a spectrum of diseases, enabling biomarker discovery and therapeutic strategies.
