Investigation of power output from PV arrays under different fault conditions is an essential task to enhance performance of a photovoltaic system under all operating conditions. Significant reduction in power output can occur during various PV faults such as module disconnection, bypass diode failure, bridge fault, and short circuit fault under non-uniform shading conditions. These PV faults may cause several peaks in the characteristics curve of PV arrays, which can lead to failure of the MPPT control strategy. In fact, impact of a fault can differ depending on the type of PV array, and it can make the control of the system more complex. Therefore, consideration of suitable PV arrays with an effective control design is necessary for maximum power output from a PV system. For this purpose, the proposed study presents a comparative study of two intelligent control schemes, i.e., fuzzy logic (FL) and particle swarm optimization (PSO), with a conventional control scheme known as perturb and observe (P&O) for power extraction from a PV system. The comparative analysis is based on the performance of the control strategies under several faults and the types of PV modules, i.e., monocrystalline and thin-film PV arrays. In this study, numerical analysis for complex fault scenarios like multiple faults under partial shading have also been performed. Different from the previous literature, this study will reveal the performance of FL-, PSO-, and P&O-based MPPT strategies to track maximum peak power during multiple severe fault conditions while considering the accuracy and fast-tracking efficiencies of the control techniques. A thorough analysis along with in-depth quantitative data are presented, confirming the superiority of intelligent control techniques under multiple faults and different PV types.

We investigate in detail the azimuthal and radial modulation (i.e., the azimuthal order l j and radial order p j with j = 1, 2) of double-four-wave mixing (double-FWM) by use of two higher-order Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) beams in a Landau quantized graphene ensemble. A pair of weak probe pulses in the graphene ensemble interacts with two LG beams and thus two vortex FWM fields with the opposite vorticity are subsequently generated. In combination with numerical simulations, we reveal that (i) there appear l1 + l2 periods of phase jumps in the phase profiles under any conditions; (ii) p + 1 concentric rings emerge in the intensity profile and the strength is mainly concentrated on the inner ring when the two LG beams have the same radial orders (i.e., p1 = p2 = p); (iii) there are p raised narrow rings occurring in the phase profile in the case of p1 = p2 = p and l1 ≠ l2, and the raised narrow rings would disappear when p1 = p2 and l1 = l2; (iv) p max + 1 concentric rings appear in the intensity profile, meanwhile, |p1 − p2| convex discs and p min raised narrow rings emerge in the phase diagram in the case of p1 ≠ p2, here p max = max(p1, p2) and p min = min(p1, p2). Moreover, the two generated FWM fields have the same results, and the difference is that the phase jumps are completely opposite. These findings may have potential application in graphene-based nonlinear optical device by using LG beams with adjustable mode orders.

Precise manipulation of the time–frequency modes of entangled photons is crucial for future quantum science and technologies. Recently, the frequency-domain-quantum-optical-synthesis (FD-QOS) method was demonstrated by creating a superposition of different joint temporal amplitudes: those temporal distributions can be controlled by manipulating the joint spectral amplitude in 2D frequency space via a Fourier optical relation. This FD-QOS method provides an efficient, flexible, and easy-to-control way to precisely modulate the temporal distributions of the entangled photon in an ultrafast region. However, manipulation of only the temporal modes is not sufficient for various applications in quantum information, since spectral modulations are also needed on many occasions. Here, we present a proof-of-concept experiment of two-photon spectral modulation via temporal manipulation of a biphoton wave packet. This protocol, called time-domain-quantum-optical-synthesis (TD-QOS), is achieved by adjusting the relative phases between two joint temporal distributions. In addition, the two-photon joint spectral distributions are characterized by measuring the joint spectral intensities and Hong–Ou–Mandel interferences. The combination of FD-QOS and TD-QOS enables complete control over the biphoton states. Our work would further develop quantum technologies that rely on the time–frequency modes of entangled photons.

Based on the standard method of dendrochronology, we examined the tree-ring width index of two dominant tree species in the Altay Mountains, China, including本研究以阿尔泰山富蕴地区的西伯利亚云杉和西伯利亚落叶松为对象,获取2个树种基部断面生长增量和树轮宽度年表与气候因子的相关系数,对比分析了相似生境下2个树种的径向生长特征及其对气候变化的响应。结果表明: 西伯利亚云杉基部断面生长增量总体高于西伯利亚落叶松,但西伯利亚落叶松的径向生长增加趋势更为显著。近60年来,上年快速生长期的高温对研究区内西伯利亚云杉的径向生长有限制作用,而当年6月较高的气温则有利于西伯利亚落叶松生长。西伯利亚落叶松的径向生长与当年1月气温呈负相关。分段相关分析显示,这种情况在1980年代中期气候变暖以后表现得更为明显。滑动相关分析表明,在气候变化背景下研究区内西伯利亚云杉和西伯利亚落叶松径向生长对气温和降水量的响应在近年来均有所增强。.

Sargassum fusiforme polysaccharides (SFPs), including SFP-3-40, SFP-3-60, SFP-3-80, SFP-7-40, SFP-7-60, SFP-7-80, SFP-10-40, SFP-10-60, and SFP-10-80, were extracted at different pH (3, 7, and 10), and then precipitated with graded precipitation of 40%, 60% and 80% (v/v) ethanol solution, respectively. Their physicochemical properties and α-glucosidase inhibitory activity were determined. Results showed that SFPs significantly differed in the contents of total sugar, protein, uronic acid, sulfate, the zeta potential, and molecular weight distribution. SFPs, including SFP-10-40, SFP-10-60, and SFP-10-80, had bigger absolute zeta potential value and higher respective average molecular weight in the same ethanol concentration precipitate. All samples were mainly composed of fucose, glucuronic acid, and mannose with different molar ratios. The extraction pH and precipitation ethanol solution concentration caused little changes in functional groups, but significantly altered surface morphology of SFPs. Congo red test revealed that all polysaccharides were not helical polysaccharides. Rheological measurements indicated that SFPs were pseudoplastic fluids and showed elastic behavior of the gel. Except SFP-3-40 and SFP-3-60, all other samples had a stronger α-glucosidase inhibitory activity than that of acarbose. The inhibition type of SFPs against α-glucosidase varied owing to different extraction pH and precipitation ethyl concentration. This study shows that extraction pH can significantly affect the structure and hypoglycemic activity of SFPs and provide a data support for the scientific use of Sargassum fusiforme in industrial production.

This study aims to investigate the potential anti-inflammatory mechanism of Lactobacillus rhamnosus Probio-M9 (Probio-M9) combined with antibiotics. Probio-M9, a probiotic strain previously isolated from the milk of healthy women. The Illumina Hiseq platform performs metagenomic sequencing on faeces samples at various time points; UPLC-Q-TOF/MS is used to detect a large number of endogenous metabolites in the serum of rats with mastitis induced by Staphylococcus aureus. The results show that the Probio-M9 combined with antibiotics increases beneficial intestinal bacteria (Lactobacillus murinus, Lactobacillus reuteri) and positively regulates metabolites (linoleic acid, glycerophospholipids, arachidonic acid, Sphingolipids. etc.), reduce inflammation in the body to play a protective role against mastitis. This research provides a new research method to relieve mastitis, and also provides a theoretical basis for the development and utilization of Probio-M9.

Field-free molecular alignment can be induced by the strong ultrashort laser pulses. Here, the improvement of the alignment is completed by the coupled pulses of the ultrashort laser pulse and the strong broadband terahertz pulse. The gaseous CO molecules are aligned by such coupled pulses, and the evolution of its states are studied based on the rigid rotor approximation theory with the simulation method. The influences of the pulses parameters on the alignment are also discussed.

The primary purpose of this retrospective study was to evaluate the sex differences in short- and mid-term mortality in femoral neck fracture patients aged90 years treated operatively and nonoperatively over a 10-year period.From January 2007 to December 2016, all femoral neck fractures patients (aged over 90 years) admitted to our hospital were included for evaluation. The survival time and mortality rate were compared between patients treated by arthroplasty and those treated nonoperatively. Additionally, a Cox proportional hazards model was built to explore the treatment effect difference between the arthroplasty group and the nonoperative group with sex-stratified subgroups.The difference in the survival distribution between the nonoperative and arthroplasty groups were significant for women (P = 0.002) but not for men (P = 0.6222). The adjusted hazard ratio (95% confidence interval) of nonoperative treatment to arthroplasty was 3.93 (1.86, 8.31). The adjusted risk ratios of nonoperative treatment to arthroplasty for males and females were 1.24 (0.58, 2.67) and 34.04 (8.68, 133.47), respectively. The data also showed higher short- and midterm survival rates in women than in men among the arthroplasty group, especially within the first 1-3 years after injury.Arthroplasty can significantly improve short- and mid-term survival in femoral neck fracture patients aged over 90 years, especially females. The most significant difference in mortality between the two sexes was observed within the first three years following the fracture.

Voltage fluctuation is one of the most common challenges that electric vehicle charging station (EVCS) may introduce to the power grid. Local reactive power compensation (Q-compensation) capability of bi-directional electric vehicle (EV) chargers can mitigate the steady-state voltage violations caused by the EV charging itself or changes in the neighboring loads. Power buffering, using energy storage system (ESS), can be utilized to address the voltage transients (sags and swells) as a result of EV charging at the EVCS. To address PI controller’s ‘hunting’ issue, this paper proposes a Q-sign triggered deadband voltage control (V-control) method at the point of common coupling (PCC). In addition, to ensure the ramp rate of EV charging is within the allowable limits set forth by the grid code, a ramp rate control is proposed that uses the ESS as a ‘power buffer’. Lastly, different from most reported work in the literature where no explicit limit of the power electronic converters (PECs) is considered, this work considers a reasonable apparent power capacity limit of the PECs when achieving the V-control. This limit also affects the amount of active power that can be obtained from the grid, and subsequently may require ESS to function as ‘load sharing’ device to provide supplemental active power to satisfy EV load. A case study simulated in MATLAB (interfaced with PLECS) is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approaches for EVCS operation.

The power quality of the Electrical Power System (EPS) is greatly affected by electrical harmonics. Hence, accurate and proper estimation of electrical harmonics is essential to design appropriate filters for mitigation of harmonics and their associated effects on the power quality of EPS. This paper presents a novel statistical (Least Square) and meta-heuristic (Grey wolf optimizer) based hybrid technique for accurate detection and estimation of electrical harmonics with minimum computational time. The non-linear part (phase and frequency) of harmonics is estimated using GWO, while the linear part (amplitude) is estimated using the LS method. Furthermore, harmonics having transients are also estimated using proposed harmonic estimators. The effectiveness of the proposed harmonic estimator is evaluated using various case studies. Comparing the proposed approach with other harmonic estimation techniques demonstrates that it has a minimum mean square error with less complexity and better computational efficiency.
