Arrays of coupled dipole emitters support collective single- and multiphoton states that can preserve quantum excitations. One of the crucial characteristics of these states is the lifetime, which is fundamentally limited due to spontaneous emission. Here, we present a mechanism of the external coupling of two states via the radiation continuum, which allows for an increase in the lifetime of both single and double excitations. As an illustrative example, we consider a ringlike ensemble of quantum emitters, demonstrating that upon slight optimization of the structure geometry, one can increase the lifetime of singly and doubly excited states with nonzero orbital momentum by several orders of magnitude. The proposed mechanism of multiphoton excitation lifetime control has a universal nature and might be applied to a wide class of open quantum systems and quantum ensembles besides the particular geometry considered in this paper.

Recently, there has been much progress in understanding stationary measures for colored (also called multi-species or multi-type) interacting particle systems, motivated by asymptotic phenomena and rich underlying algebraic and combinatorial structures (such as nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials). In this paper, we present a unified approach to constructing stationary measures for most of the known colored particle systems on the ring and the line, including (1) the Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Process (multispecies ASEP, or mASEP); (2) the q-deformed Totally Asymmetric Zero Range Process (TAZRP) also known as the q-Boson particle system; (3) the q-deformed Pushing Totally Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Process (q-PushTASEP). Our method is based on integrable stochastic vertex models and the Yang-Baxter equation. We express the stationary measures as partition functions of new "queue vertex models" on the cylinder. The stationarity property is a direct consequence of the Yang-Baxter equation. For the mASEP on the ring, a particular case of our vertex model is equivalent to the multiline queues of Martin (arXiv:1810.10650). For the colored q-Boson process and the q-PushTASEP on the ring, we recover and generalize known stationary measures constructed using multiline queues or other methods by Ayyer-Mandelshtam-Martin (arXiv:2011.06117, arXiv:2209.09859), and Bukh-Cox (arXiv:1912.03510). Our proofs of stationarity use the Yang-Baxter equation and bypass the Matrix Product Ansatz used for the mASEP by Prolhac-Evans-Mallick (arXiv:0812.3293). On the line and in a quadrant, we use the Yang-Baxter equation to establish a general colored Burke's theorem, which implies that suitable specializations of our queue vertex models produce stationary measures for particle systems on the line. The effect of optically driven spin precession discovered by Bell and Bloom [W. E. Bell and A. L. Bloom, Phys. Rev. Lett. 6, 280 (1961)] is widely used nowadays as a basis for numerous experiments in fundamental physics and for diverse applications. In this paper we consider a much less popular version of the light-induced spin precession that does not imply coherent precession of the spin-system magnetization and is excited by linearly (rather than circularly) polarized light. Pump-probe measurements performed on the D2 line of cesium vapor show that the magnitude of the signal of the optically driven spin-alignment precession, in "vacuum" cells (with no buffer gas) is close to that of classical spin-orientation precession. In the presence of buffer gas, however, the signal of spin-alignment precession appears to be strongly suppressed. In this paper we present the first-ever $L$- and $M$-band interferometric observations of Circinus, building upon a recent $N$-band analysis. We used these observations to reconstruct images and fit Gaussian models to the $L$ and $M$ bands. Our findings reveal a thin edge-on disk whose width is marginally resolved and is the spectral continuation of the disk imaged in the $N$ band to shorter wavelengths. Additionally, we find a point-like source in the $L$ and $M$ bands that, based on the $LMN$-band spectral energy distribution fit, corresponds to the $N$-band point source. We also demonstrate that there is no trace of direct sightlines to hot dust surfaces in the circumnuclear dust structure of Circinus. By assuming the dust is present, we find that obscuration of A$_{\rm V} \gtrsim 250$ mag is necessary to reproduce the measured fluxes. Hence, the imaged disk could play the role of the obscuring "torus" in the unified scheme of active galactic nuclei. Furthermore, we explored the parameter space of the disk + hyperbolic cone radiative transfer models and identify a simple modification at the base of the cone. Adding a cluster of clumps just above the disk and inside the base of the hyperbolic cone provides a much better match to the observed temperature distribution in the central aperture. This aligns well with the radiation-driven fountain models that have recently emerged. Only the unique combination of sensitivity and spatial resolution of the VLTI allows such models to be scrutinized and constrained in detail. The Snowmass report on rare processes and precision measurements recommended Mu2e-II and a next generation muon facility at Fermilab (Advanced Muon Facility) as priorities for the frontier. The Workshop on a future muon program at FNAL was held in March 2023 to discuss design studies for Mu2e-II, organizing efforts for the next generation muon facility, and identify synergies with other efforts (e.g., muon collider). Topics included high-power targetry, status of R&D for Mu2e-II, development of compressor rings, FFA and concepts for muon experiments (conversion, decays, muonium and other opportunities) at AMF. Commit messages (CMs) are an essential part of version control. By providing important context in regard to what has changed and why, they strongly support software maintenance and evolution. But writing good CMs is difficult and often neglected by developers. So far, there is no tool suitable for practice that automatically assesses how well a CM is written, including its meaning and context. Since this task is challenging, we ask the research question: how well can the CM quality, including semantics and context, be measured with machine learning methods? By considering all rules from the most popular CM quality guideline, creating datasets for those rules, and training and evaluating state-of-the-art machine learning models to check those rules, we can answer the research question with: sufficiently well for practice, with the lowest F$_1$ score of 82.9\%, for the most challenging task. We develop a full-fledged open-source framework that checks all these CM quality rules. It is useful for research, e.g., automatic CM generation, but most importantly for software practitioners to raise the quality of CMs and thus the maintainability and evolution speed of their software., Comment: published at COMPSAC'23

The calculation of the parity-violating polarizations in the external electric field, which are associated with the electron electric dipole moment ($e$EDM) and magnetic quadrupole moment (MQM) of the $^{175}$Lu nucleus, as well as the determination of the rovibrational structure for the $^{175}$LuOH$^+$ cation, is performed. Beyond the bending of the molecule, the slight effect of the stretching of the distance between Lu and OH is taken into account. The Australian, Chinese, European, Indian, and North American pulsar timing array (PTA) collaborations recently reported, at varying levels, evidence for the presence of a nanohertz gravitational wave background (GWB). Given that each PTA made different choices in modeling their data, we perform a comparison of the GWB and individual pulsar noise parameters across the results reported from the PTAs that constitute the International Pulsar Timing Array (IPTA). We show that despite making different modeling choices, there is no significant difference in the GWB parameters that are measured by the different PTAs, agreeing within $1\sigma$. The pulsar noise parameters are also consistent between different PTAs for the majority of the pulsars included in these analyses. We bridge the differences in modeling choices by adopting a standardized noise model for all pulsars and PTAs, finding that under this model there is a reduction in the tension in the pulsar noise parameters. As part of this reanalysis, we "extended" each PTA's data set by adding extra pulsars that were not timed by that PTA. Under these extensions, we find better constraints on the GWB amplitude and a higher signal-to-noise ratio for the Hellings and Downs correlations. These extensions serve as a prelude to the benefits offered by a full combination of data across all pulsars in the IPTA, i.e., the IPTA's Data Release 3, which will involve not just adding in additional pulsars, but also including data from all three PTAs where any given pulsar is timed by more than as single PTA., Comment: 21 pages, 9 figures, submitted to ApJ
