This article is a critical reflection on our forays in the curatorial practice and exposition in March 2018 for a map art exhibit called Faces Places: Mapping Embodiments held at the University of the Philippines campus in Diliman. The exhibit was an exposition of different and alternative forms of mapping through the works of three Filipino artists: Mideo Cruz, Cian Dayrit and Mark Salvatus. We analysed their interventions in making visible the progressive geographies inherent in the everyday lifeworlds of Filipinos. Drawing from Nancy Fraser’s subaltern counterpublics, we argue that their artistic outputs are forms of counter-mapping vignettes that allow the possibility to illuminate the voices and habitus of the sifted and the excluded as new cartographical interventions intended for critical reflection and pedagogy. The art maps and countermaps of the artists evoked different responses that broadened and expanded understanding beyond what maps are, which allowed us to further interrogate the power structures that define world order through time. The production of new knowledges was derived not only from analysing the textual and symbolic aspects of the artistic countermaps but also with the processual aspect of art-making as emancipatory politics.

BACKGROUND Substantial resources are dedicated to long-term follow-up within cancer registries; however, the completeness of these data is poorly characterized. Our objectives were to quantify long-term cancer follow-up data completeness and the effort required to collect these data using the National Cancer Database (NCDB). METHODS To quantify data completeness, patients diagnosed with cancer in 1989 were identified in the NCDB and loss to follow-up rates were assessed for 25 years after diagnosis. To quantify data collection effort, patients diagnosed from 1989 to 2014 who were alive and eligible for follow-up in 2014 were identified and the effort to perform patient follow-up was obtained via a survey of tumor registrars. The effort to perform follow-up beyond various intervals after diagnosis was calculated. RESULTS In total, 484,201 patients at 958 hospitals were diagnosed with cancer in 1989. After 5 years, 6.5% of patients were lost to follow-up (13.1% of living patients), 50.3% were deceased, and 43.2% had ongoing follow-up. After 15 years, 22.9% were lost to follow-up (68.7% of living patients), 66.7% were deceased, and 10.5% had ongoing follow-up. By 25 years, loss to follow-up increased to 28.6% (93.7% of living patients), 69.5% were deceased, and 1.9% had ongoing follow-up. In 2014, 522,838 h were spent performing follow-up for 2,091,353 patients at 1456 hospitals who were >15 years from their initial cancer diagnosis. CONCLUSIONS While 5-year follow-up is excellent in the NCDB, loss to follow-up increases over time. The impact of curtailing data collection is under investigation and follow-up duration requirements will be re-evaluated.

North America has been experiencing an unprecedented epidemic of drug overdose. This study investigated the associations of drug overdose with the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and 11 major CVD subtypes. This nested case–control study was based on a cohort of 20% random sample of residents in British Columbia, Canada, who were aged 18–80 years and did not have known CVD at baseline (n = 617,863). During a 4-year follow-up period, persons who developed incident CVD were identified as case subjects, and the onset date of CVD was defined as the index date. For each case subject, we used incidence density sampling to randomly select up to five control subjects from the cohort members who were alive and did not have known CVD by the index date, were admitted to an emergency department or hospital on the index date for non-CVD causes, and were matched on age, sex, and region of residence. Overdose exposure on the index date and each of the previous 5 days was examined for each subject. This study included 16,113 CVD case subjects (mean age 53 years, 59% male) and 66,875 control subjects. After adjusting for covariates, overdose that occurred on the index date was strongly associated with CVD [odds ratio (OR), 2.9; 95% confidence interval (CI), 2.4–3.5], especially for arrhythmia (OR, 8.6; 95% CI, 6.2–12.0), ischemic stroke (OR, 5.3; 95% CI, 2.0–14.1), hemorrhagic stroke (OR, 3.1; 95% CI, 1.2–8.3), and myocardial infarction (OR, 3.0; 95% CI, 1.5–5.8). The CVD risk was decreased but remained significantly elevated for overdose that occurred on the previous day, and was not observed for overdose that occurred on each of the previous 2–5 days. Drug overdose appears to be associated with increased risk of cardiovascular diseases.

The aim – to determine the sources and terms of origin, developmental peculiarities anddynamics of ossification of the mandible during the prenatal period of human ontogenesis.Materials and methods. The research was carried out on the specimens of 30 embryos and30 human pre-fetuses during the period from the 9th to the 12th weeks of the intrauterinedevelopment, which were studied by microscopic examination. Three-dimensionalcomputer reconstructions of the human pre-fetal head were made.Results. During the 7th week of the development the maxillary processes at most approachthe lateral and medial nasal ones; in pre-fetuses 20,0 mm of PCL they join the frontal spindleforming the facial structures (upper jaw and lip, vestibule of the oral cavity, rudiments ofdental laminas, and rudiments of dental buds in its distal portions). Osteogenous islets,rudiments of the mimic and masticatory muscles, blood vessels are formed. During the 8thweek of development the osseous tissue of the mandible is formed, the alveolar processesare formed. The oral and nasal cavities are isolated in 9-10-week of the intrauterinedevelopment, the mass of the osseous tissue increases in both jaws, the enamel organs aredetached, the angles and rami formed by the hyaline cartilaginous tissue of the mandibleare determined, the rudiments of the temporomandibular joints are already seen. Duringthe 11th week of development the osseous base of both jaws become formed. To the end ofthe 12th week the osseous tissue begins to replace the hyaline cartilage of the mandibularrami, and the articular heads are formed in the portion of their proximal ends.Conclusions. The mandible in its development is known to be characterized by intracartilaginous formation of the bone which starts from the ends of the cartilage graduallydisplaced by the osseous tissue. It is indicated that both jaws in pre-fetuses 37,0 and 42,0mm of PCL are presented by the typical cartilaginous tissue, and in pre-fetuses 45,0-50,0mm of PCL the osseous tissue is already available replacing the cartilaginous one.

Injectable opioid agonist treatment (iOAT) is effective for opioid use disorder (OUD), yet little is known about client preferences for accessing iOAT (e.g., with diacetylmorphine, hydromorphone, buprenorphine, fentanyl, etc.). Best-worst scaling (BWS) is a preference elicitation method from health economics that has never been applied to addiction care broadly, or iOAT specifically. We describe the stages of developing a BWS scale that assesses iOAT clients' treatment delivery preferences to inform program planning and maximize healthcare efficiency.We underwent several steps to reveal the relevant attributes/levels and design the scale structure. An initial list of potential attributes and levels was established from a literature review and prior qualitative data. Then, we conducted semi-structured interviews and focus groups with clients (n=21) on their iOAT preferences to confirm the attributes and prioritize/include new ones. Next, we conducted semi-structured interviews and focus groups with iOAT experts and stakeholders to receive their input on the draft list of attributes and levels. A BWS profile case design was piloted with iOAT clients (n=18) from different sites during a think aloud interview. After several rounds of revisions, the final version was tested by iOAT clients (n=2) before the scale was launched.We developed a person-centered scale that assesses current and former iOAT clients' most and least wanted aspects of iOAT delivery. The final version yielded 7 unique attributes: choice of medication, choice of dose, convenience, locationspace, schedulingroutines, stafftraining, and types of services offered.This scale can help expand iOAT programs in a way that is person-centered, rapid, and affordable. The methodology is a guide for other regions with similar populations who aim to develop strong quantitative methodologies that prioritize client collaboration.
