Abstract: A collection of intersecting packages of operations is executed successively and all operations of each current package are executed in parallel. The intensities of execution of operations to be defined remain invariable for all packages that include these operations. A family of nonintersecting non-unit subsets of the initial set of operations is given. Each of these subsets is considered as a potential block of operations. All operations of such block can be executed with common intensity (in aggregated manner) or completely disaggregated (each operation with its own intensity). Cost and time expenses for execution of operations depend on their volumes and intensities. Additional expenses for execution of operation package are proportional to the duration of this package. The proportionality factor is a sum of coefficient related to aggregate implementation of all blocks in the package and additional coefficients for each such disaggregate block. On the other hand disaggregation allows to reduce the expenses for operations execution by selecting optimal intensities of its operations. The problem is to determine an option to aggregate the operations of the potential blocks or not and to define the intensities of all operations minimizing the total cost under constraint on the total collection duration. The methods for two special cases of the problem are proposed.

Abstract: Recent research underlines the crucial role of disruption events and recovery policies in supply chains. Despite a wealth of literature on supply chain design with disruption considerations, to the best of our knowledge there is no state-of-the art review on supply chain with disruptions and recovery considerations. We analyse state-of-the-art research streams on supply chain design and planning with both disruptions and recovery considerations with the aim to relate the existing quantitative methods to empirical research. The paper structures and classifies existing research streams and application areas of different quantitative methods subject to different disruption risks and recovery measures. We identify gaps in current research and delineate future research avenues. The results of this study are twofold. Operations and supply chain managers can observe which quantitative tools are available for different application areas. On other hand, limitations and future research needs for decision-support methods in supply chain risk management domains can be identified.

Abstract: This paper presents a method to characterize the development of the structures of puff pastries during proving using MRI. Since the resolution is large, each pixel contains an unknown proportion of three components: fat, paste and gas. The signal to noise ratio is low since gas which reaches 80% at the end of proving gives no signal. The signal is the sum of reference signals, corresponding to pixels filled with one component, weighted by the proportions. The reference signals were supposed to be known. We adopted an edge-preserving approach based on the minimization of a penalized least-square criterion. This criterion is the weighted sum of a term accounting for the fidelity to data and a regularization term. The minimization of the criterion is based on a non-linear conjugate gradient algorithm. The settings of the weights of the two terms is based on simulations. Then simulation results are presented. The mean error was similar with or without regularization and depended on the components and their proportion (less that 1% up to 6%). Fat and gas proportions were overestimated, paste proportion was underestimated. The dispersion of the results was lower with regularization (from 0.3% up to 1.5 %). Monte-Carlo simulations showed that these results were not influenced very much by the uncertainty on the reference signals at the end of the proving. Larger uncertainties were found at the beginning of proving. We showed that the regularization of the solutions did improve the visualization of the structures confirming the interest of this approach.We also found that layers down to 40 microns thick and bubbles of which size exceeded 2.5mm could be easily distinguished in fat and gas proportion maps respectively. Experiments on genuine MRI images of Danish paste confirmed the results obtained with the simulation study. We were able to validate the method at the scale of the Danish paste by observing the evolution of the sum of the fat proportion over time, as well as the evolution of the gas content compared with the evolution of the size of the pastry. This confirmed the possibility to use the method to study the proving of a Danish paste.

Cependant, les méthodes de réduction de domaines pourraient par exemplê etre utiles dans desprobì emes portant sur des flux. C'est le cas de la vérification de programmes temps-réel, avec des variables dont les valeurs peuvent changer a chaque pas de temps. Dans cet article, nous nous intéressons a la vérification de domaines de variables (flux) dans le cadre d'un langage de diagrammes de blocs. Nous proposons une méthode de réduction de domaines de ces flux, pour encadrer finement les valeurs prises au cours du temps. En particulier, nous proposons un nouvel algorithme pour calculer un point fixe dans le cas des boucles temporelles. Nous présentons ensuite une application au langage FAUST, un langage fonctionnel temps réel pour le traitement audio et nous testons notre approche sur différents programmes FAUST standards. Abstract Constraint programming usually deals with static problems. However, domain reduction method could be useful in stream-based problems. This is the case in formal verification of real time programs for which variables can be assigned different values at every single time. In this paper, we focus on domain checking of stream variables in the context of block diagram languages. We propose a reduction algorithm for streams in order to tightly reduce their domains all over the time. Particularly , we propose a new technique to compute fix points of temporal loops. Finally, we apply our method to the FAUST language, which is a real time language for processing and generating audio streams. We also test some standards FAUST programs.

Abstract: International audience; Distributed stream processing systems are today gaining momentum as a tool to perform analytics on continuous data streams. Load shedding is a technique used to handle unpredictable spikes in the input load whenever available computing resources are not adequately provisioned. In this paper, we propose Load-Aware Shedding (LAS), a novel load shedding solution that, unlike previous works, does not rely neither on a pre-defined cost model nor on any assumption on the tuple execution duration. Leveraging sketches, LAS efficiently estimates the execution duration of each tuple with small error bounds and uses this knowledge to proactively shed input streams at any operator to limiting queuing latencies while dropping as few tuples as possible. We provide a theoretical analysis proving that LAS is an (ε, δ)-approximation of the optimal online load shedder. Furthermore, through an extensive practical evaluation based on simulations and a prototype, we evaluate its impact on stream processing applications.

Abstract: International audience; We introduce a new model for the design of concurrent sto-chastic real-time systems. Probabilistic time Petri nets (PTPN) are an extension of time Petri nets in which the output of tokens is randomised. Such a design allows us to elegantly solve the hard problem of combining probabilities and concurrency. This model further benefits from the con-cision and expressive power of Petri nets. Furthermore, the usual tools for the analysis of time Petri nets can easily be adapted to our probabilistic setting. More precisely, we show how a Markov decision process (MDP) can be derived from the classic atomic state class graph construction. We then establish that the schedulers of the PTPN and the adversaries of the MDP induce the same Markov chains. As a result, this construction notably preserves the lower and upper bounds on the probability of reaching a given target marking. We also prove that the simpler original state class graph construction cannot be adapted in a similar manner for this purpose.

Abstract: In 2013, the transportation of materials for roads construction and earthwork represents more than half of the whole activity of in the public works sector. Optimization methods for vehicle routing problems allow to solve big-size problems with industrial sector constraints. In this thesis, we focus on solving the rich full truckload pickup and delivery problem with resource synchronization. First, we solve this vehicle routing problem with a two phase heuristic method. Then, we study the integration of regulation of drivers’ working hours and the addition of lunch breaks in routes of vehicles. These methods are tested on instances from the literature and real life instances from a public works company.; Le transport de matériaux pour la réalisation d’infrastructures routières et le terrassement représente, en 2013, plus de la moitié de l’activité du secteur des travaux publics. Les méthodes d’optimisation de tournées de véhicules permettent aujourd’hui de résoudre des problèmes de grandes tailles en intégrant les contraintes liées au métier. Dans cette thèse, nous nous intéressons à la résolution du problème riche de collectes et livraisons en camions complets avec des contraintes de synchronisation sur les ressources. Dans un premier temps, nous résolvons le problème de tournées de véhicules avec une méthode heuristique en deux phases. Dans un second temps, nous étudions l’intégration des contraintes liées aux temps de conduite des chauffeurs ainsi que l’ajout des pauses déjeuners aux tournées. Nous testons les algorithmes proposés sur des instances de la littérature et des instances réelles issues d’une application industrielle d’une entreprise de Travaux Publics.

Abstract: Originally designed as a new nuclear reactor monitoring device, the Nucifer detector has successfully detected its first neutrinos. We provide the second shortest baseline measurement of the reactor neutrino flux. The detection of electron antineutrinos emitted in the decay chains of the fission products, combined with reactor core simulations, provides an new tool to assess both the thermal power and the fissile content of the whole nuclear core and could be used by the Inter- national Agency for Atomic Energy (IAEA) to enhance the Safeguards of civil nuclear reactors. Deployed at only 7.2m away from the compact Osiris research reactor core (70MW) operating at the Saclay research centre of the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA), the experiment also exhibits a well-suited configuration to search for a new short baseline oscillation. We report the first results of the Nucifer experiment, describing the performances of the 0.85m3 detector remotely operating at a shallow depth equivalent to 12m of water and under intense background radiation conditions. Based on 145 (106) days of data with reactor ON (OFF), leading to the detection of an estimated 40760 electron antineutrinos, the mean number of detected antineutrinos is 281 +- 7(stat) +- 18(syst) electron antineutrinos/day, in agreement with the prediction 277(23) electron antineutrinos/day. Due the the large background no conclusive results on the existence of light sterile neutrinos could be derived, however. Abstract: In large scale distributed systems, strong consistency criteria like sequential consistency and linearizability are often very expensive or even unachievable. This thesis investigates the best ways to specify the objects that are still possible to implement in these systems. We assert that it is still possible to separate their specification in two complementary facets: an abstract data type that specifies the functional aspect of the operations and a weak consistency criterion that describes the level of quality of service ensured by the object in its distributed environment. We illustrate these concepts by an implementation in the D programming language: abstract data types are described by classes in the program and consistency criteria are taken from a list in the CODS library.We also draw up a map of the space of weak consistency criteria, organised around three families of primary criteria (state locality, eventual consistency and validity) and three families of secondary criteria (update consistency, pipelined consistency and serializability). Each secondary criterion strenghtens two primary criteria, but the three criteria can not be implemented together in considered systems. We also study the effects of causality on these families.; Dans les systèmes répartis à très grande échelle, les critères de cohérence forts comme la cohérence séquentielle et la linéarisabilité sont souvent trop coûteux, voire impossibles à obtenir. Dans cette thèse, nous nous posons la question de la spécification des objets que l'on peut tout de même obtenir. Nous soutenons qu'il est toujours possible de séparer leur spécification en deux facettes : un type de données abstrait qui spécifie l'aspect fonctionnel des opérations et un critère de cohérence faible qui décrit la qualité de service garantie par l'objet dans son environnement réparti. Nous illustrons ces concepts par une mise en oeuvre dans le langage D : les types de données abstraits sont les classes du programme et les critères de cohérence sont choisis dans une liste fournie par la bibliothèque CODS. Nous dressons une carte de l'espace des critères faibles organisée autour de trois familles de critères primaires (localité d'état, convergence et validité) et trois familles de critères secondaires (cohérence d'écritures, cohérence pipeline et sérialisabilité). Abstract: International audience; Since 2003, the Nançay Radio Observatory hosts the CODALEMA experiment, dedicated to radio detection of cosmic ray induced extensive air showers. CODALEMA also features the R&D EXTASIS project, aiming at detecting the low- frequency signal ([2-6] MHz) produced at the sudden disappearance of the air shower particles hitting the ground. The 3 current antenna arrays present different antenna den- sity and extent, and can be operated in a joint mode to record simultaneously the radio signal coming from air showers. Therefore, the Nançay facilities may offer a complete description of the air shower induced electric field at small, medium and large scale, and over an unique and very wide frequency band (from ∼ 2 to 200 MHz).

Abstract: Advances in image quality assessment have shown the potential added value of including visual attention aspects in its objective assessment. Numerous models of visual saliency are implemented and integrated in different image quality metrics (IQMs), but the gain in reliability of the resulting IQMs varies to a large extent. The causes and the trends of this variation would be highly beneficial for further improvement of IQMs, but are not fully understood. In this paper, an exhaustive statistical evaluation is conducted to justify the added value of computational saliency in objective image quality assessment, using 20 state-of-the-art saliency models and 12 best-known IQMs. Quantitative results show that the difference in predicting human fixations between saliency models is sufficient to yield a significant difference in performance gain when adding these saliency models to IQMs. However, surprisingly, the extent to which an IQM can profit from adding a saliency model does not appear to have direct relevance to how well this saliency model can predict human fixations. Our statistical analysis provides useful guidance for applying saliency models in IQMs, in terms of the effect of saliency model dependence, IQM dependence, and image distortion dependence. The testbed and software are made publicly available to the research community.

Abstract: International audience; An environmentally acceptable disposal of sewage sludge and agro-wastes presents an urgent problem facing many countries. Anaerobic digestion (AD) is a robust and suitable technique for producing renewable energy from wastes. This study aims to improve methane production from anaerobic co-digestion of primary sludge (PS) and wheat straw (WS) depending on their volatile solids (VS) organic load and by adding a proposed waste material of buckwheat husk (BH) based on their carbon to nitrogen (C/N) ratio. Mesophilic anaerobic batch tests were carried out in 500-mL digesters. Individual and six mixtures of PS and WS at different VS organic loads were anaerobically digested to optimize VS load for the greatest gas production. The highest cumulative methane yield (CMYs) occurred with combined substrates at a VS load of 7.50 gVS/L. In general, the optimized organic loads that gave the highest cumulative biogas yield (CBYs) and CMYs were in the range of 6-8 gVS/L. In addition, AD of individual substrates of PS, WS, and BH and of their mixture at different C/N ratios was investigated regarding to the methane yields. Multi-component substrates produced the greatest CMY at a C/N ratio of 10.07. The CMYs was increased by 39.26% when the proposed waste material of buckwheat husk (BH) was added to the different mixtures of PS and WS compared to the co-digestion of PS and WS. Experimental results were approved using statistical analysis by ANOVA test at P-value less than 0.05. Purification of methane and biodegradation of VS were evaluated. The results emphasized positive synergy of anaerobic co-digestion for improving CMY and best feedstock utilization. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract: International audience; The aims of this study are to investigate the production of activated carbons (AC) from Senegal agricultural wastes such as cashew shells, millet stalks and rice husks and to implement them in adsorption processes devoted to arsenic (V) removal. AC were produced by a direct physical activation with water steam without other chemicals. This production of AC has also led to co-products (gas and bio-oil) which have been characterized in terms of physical, chemical and thermodynamical properties for energy recovery. Considering the arsenic adsorption results and the energy balance for the three studied biomasses, the first results have shown that the millet stalks seem to be more interesting for arsenate removal from natural water and an energy recovery with a GEEelec of 18.9%. Cashew shells, which have shown the best energy recovery (34.3%), are not suitable for arsenate removal. This global approach is original and contributes to a recycling of biowastes with a joint recovery of energy and material.

Abstract: International audience; While Model Driven Engineering is gaining more industrial interest, scalability issues when managing large models have become a major problem in current modeling frameworks. Scalable model persistence has been achieved by using NoSQL backends for model storage, but existing modeling framework APIs have not evolved accordingly, limiting NoSQL query performance benefits. In this paper we present the Mogwaï a scalable and efficient model query framework based on a direct translation of OCL queries to Gremlin, a query language supported by several NoSQL databases. Generated Gremlin expressions are computed inside the database itself, bypassing limitations of existing framework APIs and improving overall performance, as confirmed by our experimental results showing an improvement of execution time up to a factor of 20 and a reduction of the memory overhead up to a factor of 75 for large models.

Abstract: This paper introduces a new approach to solve the Shift-Design Personnel Task Scheduling Problem with an Equity criterion. This problem has been introduced in the context of drug evaluation, which requires to assign a set of medical tasks,fixed in time, to a set of skilled employees, whose shifts are to design. Employees' schedules must consider both legal and organizational constraints. The optimality criterion concerns the equity of the workload sharing. Two dedicated methods, one based on Constraint Programming and the other on a two-phase method, have been proposed in the literature to solve this problem. In this paper, we propose a new approach by improving the Constraint Programming model with a Large Neighborhood Search and we show that this new method clearly outperforms existing literature.

Abstract: International audience; A checker for a constraint on a variable sequence can often be compactly specified by an automaton, possibly with accumulators, that consumes the sequence of values taken by the variables; such an automaton can also be used to decompose its specified constraint into a conjunction of logical constraints. The inference achieved by this decomposition in a CP solver can be boosted by automatically generated implied constraints on the accumulators, provided the latter are updated in the automaton transitions by linear expressions. Automata with non-linear accumulator updates can be automatically synthesised for a large family of time-series constraints. In this paper, we describe and evaluate extensions to those techniques. First, we improve the automaton synthesis to generate automata with fewer accumulators. Second, we decompose a constraint specified by an automaton with accumulators into a conjunction of linear inequalities, for use by a MIP solver. Third, we generalise the implied constraint generation to cover the entire family of time-series constraints. The newly synthesised automata for time-series constraints outperform the old ones, for both the CP and MIP decompositions, and the generated implied constraints boost the inference, again for both the CP and MIP decompositions. We evaluate CP and MIP solvers on a prototypical application modelled using time-series constraints.

Abstract: Estimating the frequency of any piece of informa- tion in large-scale distributed data streams became of utmost importance in the last decade (e.g., in the context of network monitoring, big data, etc.). If some elegant solutions have been proposed recently, their approximation is computed from the inception of the stream. In a runtime distributed context, one would prefer to gather information only about the recent past. This may be led by the need to save resources or by the fact that recent information is more relevant.In this paper, we consider the sliding window model and propose two different (on-line) algorithms that approximate the items frequency in the active window. More precisely, we determine a (ε, δ)-additive-approximation meaning that the error is greater than ε only with probability δ. These solutions use avery small amount of memory with respect to the size N of the window and the number n of distinct items of the stream, namely, O(1/ε log 1/δ (logN+logn)) and O( 1/τε log 1/δ (logN+logn)) bits of space, where τ is a parameter limiting memory usage. We also provide their distributed variant, i.e., considering the sliding window functional monitoring model. We compared the proposed algorithms to each other and also to the state of the art through extensive experiments on synthetic traces and real data sets that validate the robustness and accuracy of our algorithms., Estimer la fréquence de n'importe quel item dans des flux de données massifs est un des problèmes majeurs de la dernière décennie. Si plusieurs solutions élégantes ont été proposées récemment, leur approximation est calculée depuis le commencement du flux. Dans un contexte applicatif en ligne, il serait préférable de collecter l'information sur un passé récent, tant pour économiser des ressources que par pertinence de l'information la plus récente. Dans cet article, nous considérons le modèle dit de fenêtre glissante et proposons deux algorithmes en ligne qui estiment la fréquence de chaque item dans la fenêtre courante. Ces algorithmes sont des (ε, δ)-approximations absolues des valeurs de fréquences réelles, utilisant une faible quantité mémoire (respectivement O(1/ε log 1/δ (log N + log n)) et O(1/τε log 1/δ (log N + log n)) bits, où N est la longueur de la fenêtre, n est le nombre d'items distincts du flux et τ est un paramètre permettant de limiter l'utilisation mémoire. Les expérimentations conduites, comparant nos solutions à celles de l'état de l'art, illustrent la validité et la robustesse de nos algorithmes.

Abstract: International audience; Nous considérons dans cet article le problème d'identification d'attaques par déni de service distribué, dite " iceberg " , dans des flux de données massifs, physiquement répartis. Une telle attaque consiste à cacher un déni de service parmi de multiple flux de données de façon à ce que le déni de service ne soit pas détectable sur chacun des flux pris en isolation. Une solution naturelle est pour chacun des routeurs de fournir régulièrement des informations à un coordinateur en charge de collecter et d'agréger celles-ci. Cependant pour que cette solution soit pertinente, la quantité d'informations transitant entre les routeurs et le coordinateur et la complexité en mémoire dédiée à l'analyse de chacun des flux doit être extrêmement faible par rapport au volume total des données reçues dans les différents flux. Dans cet article, nous proposons un algorithme probabiliste distribué efficace détectant les icebergs à la volée. Nous présentons brièvement l'analyse théorique des performances de notre algorithme (e.g. coût en espace mémoire, en nombre de message échan-gés et en temps de calcul) ainsi que les résultats expérimentaux obtenus sur un cluster de Raspberry Pi. Ces derniers confirment l'efficacité et la précision de notre algorithme pour identifier les icebergs cachés dans des flux de données massifs.

Abstract: International audience; Key grouping is a technique used by stream processing frame- works to simplify the development of parallel stateful opera- tors. Through key grouping a stream of tuples is partitioned in several disjoint sub-streams depending on the values con- tained in the tuples themselves. Each operator instance tar- get of one sub-stream is guaranteed to receive all the tuples containing a specific key value. A common solution to imple- ment key grouping is through hash functions that, however, are known to cause load imbalances on the target operator instances when the input data stream is characterized by a skewed value distribution. In this paper we present DKG, a novel approach to key grouping that provides near-optimal load distribution for input streams with skewed value distri- bution. DKG starts from the simple observation that with such inputs the load balance is strongly driven by the most frequent values; it identifies such values and explicitly maps them to sub-streams together with groups of less frequent items to achieve a near-optimal load balance. We provide theoretical approximation bounds for the quality of the map- ping derived by DKG and show, through both simulations and a running prototype, its impact on stream processing applications.; Le groupement de clés est une technique utilisée dans les plateformes de traitement de flux pour simplifier le dé-ploiement parallèle d'opérateurs à états. Cette méthode consiste à subdiviser le flux de tuples en plusieurs sous-flux disjoints, au regard d'une clef définie pour chaque tuple. Chaque opérateur recevant l'un de ces sous-flux est donc as-suré de recevoir tous les tuples contenant une clé spécifique. Une solution classique est de grouper les clés en utilisant des fonctions de hachage, induisant potentiellement un déséquilibre de charge des opérateurs en cas de distribution bi-aisée des clefs du flux d'entrée. Nous présentons une solution permettant d'obtenir une répartition de la charge proche de l'optimal, quelque soit la distribution. Cette solution repose sur le fait que l'équilibre est majoritairement influencé par les clés les plus fréquentes. En identifiant ces valeurs dominantes et en les groupant judicieusement avec des clés plus rares, les sous-flux ainsi obtenus permettent d'atteindre un équilibrage de charge quasi-optimal. Nous présentons une analyse théorique des bornes de qualité obtenu avec notre algorithme et illustrons son impact sur des applications de traitement de flux, via des simulations intensives et un prototype opérationnel.

Abstract: International audience; We present a large, free, French corpus of online written conversations extracted from the Ubuntu platform's forums, mailing lists and IRC channels. The corpus is meant to support multi-modality and diachronic studies of online written conversations. We choose to build the corpus around a robust metadata model based upon strong principles, such as the "stand off" annotation principle. We detail the model, we explain how the data was collected and processed-in terms of meta-data, text and conversation-and we detail the corpus' contents through a series of meaningful statistics. A portion of the corpus-about 4,700 sentences from emails, forum posts and chat messages sent in November 2014-is annotated in terms of dialogue acts and sentiment. We discuss how we adapted our dialogue act taxonomy from the DIT++ annotation scheme and how the data was annotated, before presenting our results as well as a brief qualitative analysis of the annotated data.

Abstract: International audience; Among all researches dedicating to terminology and word sense disambiguation, little attention has been devoted to the ambiguity of term occurrences. If a lexical unit is indeed a term of the domain, it is not true, even in a specialised corpus, that all its occurrences are terminological. Some occurrences are terminological and other are not. Thus, a global decision at the corpus level about the terminological status of all occurrences of a lexical unit would then be erroneous. In this paper, we propose three original methods to characterise the ambiguity of term occurrences in the domain of social sciences for French. These methods differently model the context of the term occurrences: one is relying on text mining, the second is based on textometry, and the last one focuses on text genre properties. The experimental results show the potential of the proposed approaches and give an opportunity to discuss about their hybridisation.

Abstract: International audience; Keyphrase extraction is the task of finding phrases that represent the important content of a document. The main aim of keyphrase extraction is to propose textual units that represent the most important topics developed in a document. The output keyphrases of automatic keyphrase extraction methods for test documents are typically evaluated by comparing them to manually assigned reference keyphrases. Each output keyphrase is considered correct if it matches one of the reference keyphrases. However, the choice of the appropriate textual unit (keyphrase) for a topic is sometimes subjective and evaluating by exact matching underestimates the performance. This paper presents a dataset of evaluation scores assigned to automatically extracted keyphrases by human evaluators. Along with the reference keyphrases, the manual evaluations can be used to validate new evaluation measures. Indeed, an evaluation measure that is highly correlated to the manual evaluation is appropriate for the evaluation of automatic keyphrase extraction methods.

Abstract: International audience; In this article, we propose to evaluate the lexical similarity information provided by word representations against several opinion resourcesusing traditional Information Retrieval tools. Word representation have been used to build and to extend opinion resources such aslexicon, and ontology and their performance have been evaluated on sentiment analysis tasks. We question this method by measuring thecorrelation between the sentiment proximity provided by opinion resources and the semantic similarity provided by word representationsusing different correlation coefficients. We also compare the neighbors found in word representations and list of similar opinion words.Our results show that the proximity of words in state-of-the-art word representations is not very effective to build sentiment similarity.

Abstract: Web applications are often exposed to unpredictable work-loads, which makes computing resource management di-cult. The resource may be overused when the workload is high and underused when the workload is low. A solution to deal with unpredictable workloads is to migrate Web applications to cloud computing infrastructures, where the resource is varied according to demand, i. e., elasticity. With elasticity, all the resource variations happen during the Web application runtime. To deal with this, the Web application , and its service layers must behave in an elastic manner , which comprises adaptation tasks. These tasks may introduce functional and non-functional errors into the Web application. To nd these errors, we must test the Web application when the adaptation tasks are performed, during the resource variations. Some tests may require a specic sequence of resource variations, which are dicult to be achieved without controllability. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an approach that controls the required resource variations. We validated our approach by conducting several experiments on Amazon EC2 cloud infrastructures. In these experiments, we successfully lead the Web application through the required resource variations.

Abstract: The production cross sections of the prompt charmed mesons D$^0$, D$^+$, D$^{*+}$ and D$_s$ were measured at mid-rapidity in p-Pb collisions at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=5.02$ TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. D mesons were reconstructed from their decays D$^0\rightarrow{\rm K}^-\pi^+$, D$^+\rightarrow{\rm K}^-\pi^+\pi^+$, D$^{*+}\rightarrow D^0\pi^+$, D$_s^+\rightarrow\phi\pi^+\rightarrow{\rm K}^-{\rm K}^+\pi^+$, and their charge conjugates. Abstract: International audience; The widespread use of Java EE web applications as a means to provide distributed services to remote clients imposes strong security requirements, so that the resources managed by these applications remain protected from unauthorized disclosures and manipulations. For this purpose, the Java EE framework provides developers with mechanisms to define access-control policies. Unfortunately , the variety and complexity of the provided security configuration mechanisms cause the definition and manipulation of a security policy to be complex and error prone. As security requirements are not static, and thus, implemented policies must be changed and reviewed often, discovering and representing the policy at an appropriate abstraction level to enable their understanding and reenginering appears as a critical requirement. To tackle this problem, this paper presents a (model-based) approach aimed to help security experts to visualize, (automatically) analyse and manipulate web security policies.

Abstract: International audience; Reverse engineering is still a challenging process, notably because of the growing number, heterogeneity, complexity, and size of software applications. While the analysis of their structural elements has been intensively investigated, there is much less work covering the reverse engineering of their behavioral aspects. To further stimulate research on this topic, we propose fREX as an open framework for reverse engineering of executable behaviors from existing software code bases. fREX currently provides model discovery support for behavior embedded in Java code, employs the OMG's fUML standard language as executable pivot format for dynamic analysis, and uses model transformations to bridge Java and fUML. Thus, fREX also aims at contributing to explore the relationship between programming languages (e.g., Java) and executable mod-eling languages (e.g., fUML). In this paper, we describe the proposed fREX framework and its current reverse engineering support covering some core Java features. In addition we discuss how the framework can be used for performing different kinds of dynamic analysis on existing software, as well as how it could be extended in the future.

Abstract: International audience; Serious games and gamified simulations are increasingly being used to aid instruction in technical disciplines including the medical field. Assessments of player performance are important in understanding user profiles in order to establish serious games as a reliable, consistent method for increasing skills and competence in all trainees. In this study we used questionnaires, game characteristic metrics and EEG analysis to explore players' performance in a bronchoscopy simulator. We found that players who performed better were younger, made fewer errors, were quicker and differed in spectral profile during game play. Our findings, while speculative, have implications for training regimes in which gamified simulations are employed. We make suggestions for game design and for tailoring training regimes to suit individual learning styles to enhance knowledge acquisition and retention.

Abstract: We present the first wide-range measurement of the charged-particle pseudorapidity density distribution, for different centralities (the 0-5%, 5-10%, 10-20%, and 20-30% most central events) in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 2.76$ TeV at the LHC. The measurement is performed using the full coverage of the ALICE detectors, $-5.0 < ��< 5.5$, and employing a special analysis technique based on collisions arising from LHC "satellite" bunches. We present the pseudorapidity density as a function of the number of participating nucleons as well as an extrapolation to the total number of produced charged particles ($N_{\rm ch} = 17165 \pm 772$ for the 0-5% most central collisions). From the measured ${\rm d}N_{\rm ch}/{\rm d}��$ distribution we derive the rapidity density distribution, ${\rm d}N_{\rm ch}/{\rm d}y$, under simple assumptions. The rapidity density distribution is found to be significantly wider than the predictions of the Landau model. We assess the validity of longitudinal scaling by comparing to lower energy results from RHIC. Abstract: A common problem in logistic, warehousing, industrial manufacture, newspaper paging or energy management in data centers is to allocate items in a given enclosing space or container. This is called a packing problem. Many works in the literature handle the packing problem by considering specific shapes or using polygonal approximations. The goal of this thesis is to allow arbitrary shapes, as long as they can be described mathematically (by an algebraic equation or a parametric function). In particular, the shapes can be curved and non-convex. This is what we call the generic packing problem. We propose a framework for solving this generic packing problem, based on interval techniques. The main ingredients of this framework are: An evolutionary algorithm to place the objects, an over lapping function to be minimized by the evolutionary algorithm (violation cost), and an overlapping region that represents a pre-calculated set of all the relative configurations of one object (with respect to the other one) that creates an overlapping. This overlapping region is calculated numerically and distinctly for each pair of objects. The underlying algorithm also depends whether objects are described by inequalities or parametric curves. Preliminary experiments validate the approach and show the potential of this framework.; Un problème courant en logistique, gestion d’entrepôt, industrie manufacturière ou gestion d’énergie dans les centres de données est de placer des objets dans un espace limité, ou conteneur. Ce problème est appelé problème de placement. De nombreux travaux dans la littérature gèrent le problème de placement en considérant des objets de formes particulières ou en effectuant des approximations polygonales. L’objectif de cette thèse est d’autoriser toute forme qui admet une définition mathématique (que ce soit avec des inégalités algébriques ou des fonctions paramétrées). Les objets peuvent notamment être courbes et non-convexes. C’est ce que nous appelons le problème de placement générique. Nous proposons un cadre de résolution pour résoudre ce problème de placement générique, basé sur les techniques d’intervalles. Ce cadre possède trois ingrédients essentiels : un algorithme évolutionnaire plaçant les objets, une fonction de chevauchement minimisée par cet algorithme évolutionnaire (coût de violation), et une région de chevauchement qui représente un ensemble pré-calculé des configurations relatives d’un objet (par rapport à un autre) qui créent un chevauchement. Cette région de chevauchement est calculée de façon numérique et distinctement pour chaque paire d’objets. L’algorithme sous-jacent dépend également du fait qu’un objet soit représenté par des inégalités ou des fonctions paramétrées. Des expérimentations préliminaires permettent de valider l’approche et d’en montrer le potentiel.

Abstract: Cloud computing, through its layered model and access to its on-demand services, has changed the way of managing the infrastructures (IaaS) and how to produce software (SaaS). With the advent of IaaS elasticity, the amount of resources can be automatically adjusted according to the demand to satisfy a certain level of quality of service (QoS) to customers while minimizing underlying operating costs. The current elasticity model is based on adjusting the IaaS resources through basic autoscaling services, which reaches to its limit in terms of responsiveness and adaptation granularity. Although it is an essential feature for Cloud computing, elasticity remains poorly equipped which prevents the various actors of the Cloud to really enjoy its benefits. In this thesis, we propose to extend the concept of elasticity to higher layers of the cloud, and more precisely to the SaaS level. Then, we present the new concept of software elasticity by defining the ability of the software to adapt, ideally in an autonomous way, to cope with workload changes and/or limitations of IaaS elasticity. This predicament brings the consideration of Cloud elasticity in a multi-layer way through the adaptation of all kind of Cloud resources. To this end, we present a model for the autonomic management of multi-layer elasticity and the associated framework ElaStuff. In order to equip and industrialize the elasticity management process, we propose the perCEPtion monitoring tool, based on complex event processing, which enables the administrators to set up an advanced observation of the Cloud system. In addition, we propose a domain specific language (DSL) for the multi-layer elasticity, called ElaScript, which allows to simply and effectively express reconfiguration plans orchestrating the different levels of elasticity actions. Finally, our proposal to extend the Cloud elasticity to higher layers, particularly to SaaS,is validated experimentally from several perspectives (QoS,energy, responsiveness and accuracy of the scaling, etc.).; L’informatique en nuage, au travers de son modèle en couche et de l’accès à ses services à la demande, a bouleversé la façon de gérer les infrastructures (IaaS) et la manière de produire les logiciels (SaaS). Grâce à l’élasticité de l’infrastructure, la quantité de ressource peut être ajustée automatiquement en fonction de la demande afin de satisfaire un certain niveau de qualité de service (QoS) aux clients tout en minimisant les coûts d’exploitation sous-jacents. Le modèle d’élasticité actuel qui consiste à ajuster les ressources IaaS au travers de services de dimensionnement automatique basiques montre ses limites en termes de réactivité et de granularité d’adaptation. De plus, bien qu’étant une caractéristique cruciale de l’informatique en nuage, l’élasticité est à ce jour pauvrement outillée empêchant ainsi les différents acteurs du Cloud de jouir pleinement de ses bienfaits. Dans ce travail de thèse, nous proposons d’étendre leconcept d’élasticité aux couches hautes du nuage, et plus précisément au niveau du SaaS. Nous présentons ainsi le nouveau concept d’élasticité logicielle que nous définissons comme la capacité d’un logiciel à s’adapter, idéalement de manière autonome, pour répondre aux changements de la demande et/ou aux limitations de l’élasticité des ressources de l’infrastructure. Il s’agit alors d’envisager l’élasticité de manière transverse et multi-couche en considérant l’adaptation des ressources Cloud au sens large. Pour ce faire, nous présentons un modèle pour la gestion autonome de l’élasticité multi-couche et le Framework ElaStuff associé. Dans le but d’outiller et d’industrialiser le processus de gestion de l’élasticité, nous proposons l’outil de surveillance perCEPtion basé sur le traitement des événements complexes et permettant à l’administrateur de mettre en place une observation avancée du système Cloud. De plus, un langage dédié à l’élasticité multi-couche nommé ElaScript est proposé pour exprimer simplement et efficacement des plans de reconfiguration orchestrant les actions d’élasticité de différents niveaux. Enfin, notre proposition d’étendre l’élasticité aux couches hautes du Cloud, et plus particulièrement au niveau SaaS, est validée expérimentalement selon plusieurs points devue (QoS, énergie, réactivité et précision du passage à l’échelle,etc.).

Abstract: International audience; Applications that are exposed to fluctuating workloads must ensure elasticity, that is the ability to scale up and down rapidly to meet the demand. Cloud infrastructures provide adaptation tasks, which allow applications to automatically scale up and down straightforwardly. These adaptation tasks drive the system to new states, which may expose implementation errors and therefore must be tested. In this paper, we focus on testing elastic applications during different elasticity-related states. This test is difficult since the elasticity states are not directly controlled by the tester. To execute the test at different elasticity-related states, we propose a controlled testing procedure. This procedure consists in controlling the leading of applications through the required elasticity states, while they are tested accordingly. To test the application, we identify the elasticity states at real time, and in parallel, we execute the state-related tests. We validate our testing procedure by performing experiments on Amazon EC2. In the experiments, we successfully lead an application through the required elasticity states, and identify non-functional errors.

Abstract: International audience; Real-time collaborative editors are common tools for distributing work across space, time, and organizations. Unfortunately , mainstream editors such as Google Docs rely on central servers and raise privacy and scalability issues. Crate is a real-time decentralized collaborative editor that runs directly in web browsers thanks to WebRTC. Compared to state-of-the-art, Crate is the first real-time editor that only requires browsers in order to support collaborative editing and to transparently handle from small to large groups of users. Consequently, Crate can also be used in massive online lectures, TV shows or large conferences to allow users to share their notes. Crate's properties rely on two scientific results: (i) a replicated sequence structure with sub-linear upper bound on space complexity; this prevents the editor from running costly distributed garbage collectors , (ii) an adaptive peer sampling protocol; this prevent the editor from oversizing routing tables, hence from letting small networks pay the price of large networks. This paper describes Crate, its properties and its usage.

Abstract: International audience; Purpose: Painful peripheral neuropathy is a frequent toxicity associated with bortezomib therapy.This study aimed to identify loci that affect susceptibility to this toxicity.Experimental Design: A genome-wide association study (GWAS) of 370,605 SNPs wasperformed to identify risk variants for developing severe bortezomib-induced peripheral neuropathy(BiPN) in 469 multiple myeloma (MM) patients who received bortezomib-dexamethasone therapyprior to autologous stem-cell in randomized clinical trials of the Intergroupe Francophone duMyelome (IFM) and findings were replicated in 114 MM patients of the HOVON-65/GMMG-HD4clinical trial.Results: A single SNP in the PKNOX1 gene was associated with BiPN in the exploratory cohort(rs2839629; OR, 1.89, 95% CI: [1.45-2.44]; P = 7.6 x 10-6) and in the replication cohort (OR, 2.04;95% CI = [1.11-3.33]; P= 8.3 x 10-3). In addition, rs2839629 is in strong linkage disequilibrium (r2= 0.87) with rs915854, located in the intergenic region between PKNOX1 and CBS . Expressionquantitative trait loci mapping showed that both rs2839629 and rs915854 genotypes impactPKNOX1 expression in nerve tissue while rs2839629 affects CBS expression in skin and blood.Conclusions: The use of GWAS in MM pharmacogenomics has identified a novel candidate geneticlocus mapping to PKNOX1 and in the immediate vicinity of CBS at 21q22.3 associated with thesevere bortezomib-induced toxicity. The proximity of these two genes involved in neurologic painwhose tissue-specific expression is modified by the two variants provides new targets for neuroprotectivestrategies.
