Abstract

Two new members of highly charged Silverton archetype [NaM12O42]11− were demonstrated in the 3D POM-based frameworks Na3[NaM12O42(Ru(DMSO)3)4]·13H2O (M = Mo (1), W (2)), where the unusual icosahedron coordination of a Na+ ion incubated as a heteroatom is reported for the first time in topical POMs. Furthermore, 23Na NMR was applied to certify the interpretation of X-ray diffraction data concerning Na localization. Abstract

Key message: New powdery mildew resistance gene Pm68 was found in the terminal region of chromosome 2BS of Greek durum wheat TRI 1796. The co-segregated molecular markers could be used for MAS. Durum wheat (Triticum turgidum L. var. durum Desf.) is not only an important cereal crop for pasta making, but also a genetic resource for common wheat improvement. In the present study, a Greek durum wheat TRI 1796 was found to confer high resistance to all 22 tested isolates of Blumeria graminis f. sp. tritici (Bgt). Inheritance study on the F1 plants and the F2 population derived from the cross TRI 1796/PI 584832 revealed that the resistance in TRI 1796 was controlled by a single dominant gene, herein designated Pm68. Using the bulked segregant RNA-Seq (BSR-Seq) analysis combined with molecular analysis, Pm68 was mapped to the terminal part of the short arm of chromosome 2B and flanked by markers Xdw04 and Xdw12/Xdw13 with genetic distances of 0.22 cM each. According to the reference genome of durum wheat cv. Svevo, the corresponding physical region spanned the Pm68 locus was about 1.78-Mb, in which a number of disease resistance-related genes were annotated. This study reports the new powdery mildew resistance gene Pm68 that would be a valuable resource for improvement of both common wheat and durum wheat. Abstract

The reaction of Ni(OAc)2·4H2O and 5-aminodiacetic isophthalate (H4adip) in the aqueous solution to produce a discrete nickel coordination compound, {[Ni1.5(H2O)9][Ni(adip)(H2O)3][Ni1.5(adip)(H2O)5]·10H2O}2 (1), whereas another nickel compound was isolated by assembling the same reactants at 80 °C in the mixed solvents of H2O and DMA, {[Ni(H2O)6][Ni3(adip)2(H2O)8]·7.5H2O}2 (2). Both 1 and 2 were structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and other methods. The skeleton unit of 1 consisted of five crystallographically independent Ni2+ ions and two types of adip4− ligands, and the adjacent units were further generated a 3D supramolecular architecture through hydrogen bonds and π···π stacking interactions. Analogously, four types of six-coordinated Ni2+ ions and two kinds of adip4− ligands in 2 also formed a 3D supramolecular structure by hydrogen bonds and π···π stacking interactions. Moreover, the magnetic properties of 1 and 2 had been examined, and the results suggested that the presence of antiferromagnetic interactions among Ni2+ ions in both compounds. Abstract

A triangular {Er3} cluster containing polyoxometalate (POM), [Er3(μ3-OH)(H2O)8(AsW9O33)(AsW10O35(DL -mal))]222− (1) (mal = malate), has been obtained via one-pot reactions. Structural analyses demonstrate that three Er3+ ions bridged one μ3-OH to generate a rare μ3-OH-capped triangular {Er3} cluster, which connects two different vacant polyanions to form an unsymmetrical sandwich-type subunit, and adjacent sandwiched subunits are linked through mal ligands to give the targeted dimer. When the Er3+ ions are substituted in whole or in part with Y3+ ions, the diamagnetic yttrium analogue [Y3(μ3-OH)(H2O)8(AsW9O33)(AsW10O35(DL -mal))]222− (2) and diluted sample [Er0.15Y2.85(μ3-OH)(H2O)8(AsW9O33)(AsW10O35(DL -mal))]222− (Er@2) have also been synthesized. Magnetic studies reveal that 1 exhibits field-induced two-step magnetic relaxation processes; the slow relaxation process may arise from intramolecular magnetic interactions, whereas the fast one is likely to originate from the intermolecular dipole–dipole interactions supported by the magnetic results of Er@2. From ab initio calculations, it is found that although the magnetic anisotropies of 1 mainly originate from individual Er3+ fragments, the Er3+–Er3+ interactions have a considerable influence on their slow magnetic relaxation processes. Abstract

Background: Rye (Secale cereale L., 2n = 2x = 14, RR), a relative of common wheat, is a large gene resource pool for wheat improvement. Accurate and convenient identification of the rye chromatin in wheat background will facilitate the transfer and utilization of elite genes derived from rye in wheat breeding. Results: In the present study, five rye cultivars including Imperial, German White, Jingzhouheimai, Baili and Guyuan were sequenced by specific-locus amplified fragment sequencing (SLAF-seq) to develop large-scale rye-specific markers. Based on SLAF-seq and bioinformatics analyses, a total of 404 universal PCR-based and a whole set of Kompetitive allele-specific PCR (KASP) markers specific for the 14 individual rye chromosome arms were developed and validated. Additionally, two KASP markers specific for 1RS and 2RL were successfully applied in the detection of 1RS translocations in a natural population and 2RL chromosome arms in wheat-rye derived progenies that conferred adult resistance to powdery mildew. Conclusion: The 404 PCR-based markers and 14 KASP markers specific for the 14 individual rye chromosome arms developed in this study can enrich the marker densities for gene mapping and accelerate the utilization of rye-derived genes in wheat improvement. Especially, the KASP markers achieved high-throughput and accurate detection of rye chromatin in wheat background, thus can be efficiently used in marker-assisted selection (MAS). Besides, the strategy of rye-specific PCR-based markers converting into KASP markers was high-efficient and low-cost, which will facilitate the tracing of alien genes, and can also be referred for other wheat relatives.
