Kent H. Redford contends that the illusion of an 'ecologically noble savage' can be dangerous in the formulation of environmental policies. Although he stresses the importance of the study and preservation of indigenous cultures, he resists the idea of the implementation of development plans in accordance with cultural values. He strongly criticizes the idealized notion regarding the inherent superiority of the indigenous way of life.
