A chromophore containing a coplanar dihexyl-substituted dithienosilole (CL1) synthesised for use in dye-sensitised solar cells displayed an energy conversion efficiency of 6.90% under AM 1.5 sunlight irradiation. The new sensitiser showed a similar fill factor and open-circuit voltage when compared with N719. Impedance measurements showed that, in the dark, the charge-transfer resistance of a cell using CL1 in the intermediate-frequency region was higher compared to N719 (69.8 versus 41.3 Ω). Under illumination at AM 1.5G-simulated conditions, the charge-transfer resistances were comparable, indicative of similar recombination rates by the oxidised form of the redox couple. The dye showed instability in ethanol solution, but excellent stability when attached to TiO2. Classical molecular dynamics indicated that interactions between ethanol and the dye are likely to reduce the stability of CL1 in solution form. Time-dependent density functional theory studies were performed to ascertain the absorption spectrum of the dye and assess the contribution of various transitions to optical excitation, which showed good agreement with experimental results.

Clidinium bromide, rabeprazole sodium, chlordiazepoxide and dicyclomine hydrochloride(COLIWIN-R) drug combinations are used for the treatment of gastric acidity, anxiety, intestinal ulcers, abdominal cramps, irritable bowel syndrome and abdominal pain. A high performance liquid chromatographic method has been developed and validated for the simultaneous determination of clidinium bromide, rabeprazole sodium, chlordiazepoxide and dicyclomine hydrochloride in capsules dosage forms using WATERS C18 column (50 mm x 4.6 mm, 5 pm) with mobile phase consisting of methanol, acetonitrile and phosphate buffer 40:30:30 (V/V) (0.05M, pH 4.0 adjusting with 0.5% ortho phosphoric acid) at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/ min monitoring the effluents at 220 nm. The retention times of clidinium bromide, rabeprazole sodium, chlordiazepoxide and dicyclomine hydrochloride in capsule formulation were found to be 2.9 min, 3.5 min, 4.7 min, and 8.0 min, respectively. The method was validated according to the ICH guidelines for specificity, LOD, LOQ, precision, accuracy, linearity, ruggedness and robustness. The method show good reproducibility and recovery with % RSD less than 2. The proposed method was found to be simple, specific, precise, accurate and linear. Hence, it can be applied for routine analysis of clidinium bromide, rabeprazole sodium, chlordiazepoxide and dicyclomine hydrochloride in pharmaceutical combined dosage forms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The carbonization of polyphenyl acetylene in alumina matrix yields uniform, cylindrical, monodisperse carbon nanotubes with outer diameter almost equal to pore diameter of the alumina membrane used. The electrochemical characteristics reveal that the charge transfer at the composite electrode based on carbon nanotube might be higher compared to that of planar graphite, glassy carbon and composite electrode based on commercially available Vulcan XC72R carbon. Pt-Ru nanoparticles are highly dispersed inside the tube with an average particle size of 1.7 nm as revealed by HR-TEM images.

Marigold (Tagetes spp.) belongs to family Asteraceae, native to Mexico, is one of the most important flower crop grown commercially in different parts of India. The application of haploid techniques as anther culture can considerably accelerate marigold breeding programmes by providing homozygous doubled haploid (DH) lines for F1 hybrid seed production. Therefore, the objective of the present investigation was to study the effect of growth regulators for in vitro regeneration in both African marigold and French marigold genotypes viz., Pusa Basanti Gainda and Pusa Arpita, respectively for haploid induction. Among the different treatments tested for callus induction, anthers cultured on MS medium supplemented with 1.0 mg/l BAP + 1.0 mg/l 2,4-D + 45 g/l sucrose significantly induced highest (38.74%) callus in the shortest period of time (16 days). Among two genotypes tested, embryogenic callus induction (27.70%) was significantly higher in Pusa Arpita over Pusa Basanti Gainda (23.37%). Among the different regeneration treatments, the highest adventitious shoot bud induction (13.32%), maximum (1.09) number of buds/callus in shortest duration (19.47 days) was observed in anther derived callus cultured on MS medium supplemented with 2.0 mg/l BAP + 0.5mg/l NAA + 30 g/l sucrose. Among two genotypes evaluated for shoot bud induction, maximum (3.81%) regeneration was recorded in Pusa Arpita over Pusa Basanti Gainda (2.90%). In French genotype, the whole regeneration process was completed in 30 days whereas in African genotype it took nearly 40 days. This rapid regeneration system from anthers is highly useful in inducing haploids and di-haploids in African and French marigold lines, respectively.

The commercial success of the polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC) will to a large extent be determined by the nature, properties, functionality, and cost of the electrochemical sub-components used in the membrane electrode assembly (MEA). Materials research activities in Switzerland for the PEFC are being pursued at the Paul Scherrer Institut (Villigen AG) and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne with different objectives. The radiation grafted proton exchange membrane developed at the Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI) has been brought to a near-product-like quality level with encouraging performance close to state-of-the-art materials and a life-time of several thousand hours. Furthermore, the membrane shows low methanol crossover in the direct methanol fuel cell. In addition, polyarylene block copolymer membranes have been investigated as an option for fluorine-free membranes. The electrocatalysis of Pt in acidic solution and in contact with a solid electrolyte, the development of new methanol oxidation and oxygen reduction catalysts, and co-sputtering of Pt and carbon as an alternative method for catalyst preparation are areas of fundamental research. More applied research is performed in the characterization of commercial electrodes in single cells, using standard as well as advanced diagnostic tools developed in-house. This article gives an overview over the research and development projects in Switzerland related to materials and components for the PEFC.

With the solid oxide-fuel cell, a technology exploiting ionic conductivity in electroceramic materials, small-scale co-generation plants for combined production of heat and electricity can achieve clean high-efficiency operation. However, with thermal activation of the cell chemistry, extremely high operating temperatures, about 1000°, are required, conditions incompatible with long term reliability using conventional structural materials. Lower-temperature operation depends decisively on the application of electrocatalysis at interfaces to the ceramic electrolyte.

Abstract Aggregation-induced emission based organic heterocyclic luminogens bearing conjugated electronic structures showed much attention due to its excellent fluorescence in aggregation state. In this communication, a novel conjugated blue light emitting imidazole molecule is synthesized by one pot multicomponent reaction route is reported for the first time. The prepared molecule exhibits a strong fluorescence in aggregation state with exceptional properties, such as high purity, inexpensive, eco-friendly, large scale production, high photostability, etc. By considering these advantages, a new fluorescence based platform has been setup for in-situ visualization of latent fingerprints and its preservation by spray method followed by Poly(vinyl alcohol) masking. A clear and well defined fluorescence fingerprint images are noticed on variety of surfaces by revealing level 1–3 ridge features upon ultraviolet 365 nm light exposure. The dual nature of binding specificity as well as excellent fluorescence properties permits the visualization of latent fingerprints for longer durations (up to 365 days) with superior contrast, high sensitivity, efficiency, selectivity and minimal background hindrance. We further fabricated unclonable invisible security ink for various printing modes on valuable goods for protection against forging. The developed labels are displaying uniform distribution of ink and exceptional stability under various atmospheric environments. The development of long preservative information using aggregation-induced emission based luminogen opens up a new avenue in advanced forensic and data security applications.

Objective : To standardize a high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method for the determination of isoniazid in plasma by external standard method. Material and Methods: A simple, specific and sensitive HPLC method was developed for the determination of isoniazid in plasma. Separation was achieved by reverse phase chromatography on a C18 column with a mobile phase composition of phosphate buffer pH 7.4: methanol (98:2 v/v) at 261 nm. Results: The retention time of isoniazid was 5.96 minutes. The assay was linear from 0.05 to 20.0 μgm /mL for plasma. Both intra-day and inter-day accuracy and precision data showed good reproducibility. Recoveries (extraction efficiency) for drug were greater than 98% in plasma .The plasma method was precise (total coefficient of variation ranged from 2.97 to 5.18%) for the analytes. Conclusion: The HPLC method described is sensitive, selective and linear for the wide range of concentrations for isoniazid in plasma. The photoluminescence (PL) studies of powder phosphors are under rigorous study in view of the applications they have in the field of technology. Different methods are available for the preparation of rare earth ions doped in different host environment of powder phosphors. In the present work, a novel route known as sol–gel technique is employed to prepare spinel phosphor MgAl1.8Y0.2-xO4:Eux (x=2–6 mol%). Then the studies have been carried out to optimize the dopant concentration in the host lattice with the help of photoluminescence spectra. These phosphors have displayed bright red color under UV source. The emission intensities were determined and the relative fluorescence intensities have been estimated. The richness of the red color has been verified by determining their chromaticity coordinates (&Xmacr;, &Ymacr;) from the CIE standard charts. With the help of XRD, electron spin resonance (ESR), and photo-acoustic (PA) spectra of the samples prepared are also used for the confirmity of the host and analyzing of the data. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) represent a family of Type I transmembrane proteins characterized by an extracellular leucine-rich repeat domain and a cytoplasmic domain. TLRs represent a conserved group of receptors which help the immune system to function properly. Different TLRs are associated with an array of skin diseases. TLR agonists and antagonists have great potential for the treatment of allergic and inflammatory diseases.

Toxicokinetic (TK) assays and in vitro-in vivo extrapolation (IVIVE) models are New Approach Methods (NAMs) used to translate in vitro points of departure to exposure estimates required to reach equivalent blood concentrations. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a large chemical class with wide-ranging industrial applications for which only limited toxicity data are available for human health evaluation. To address the lack of TK data, a pooled primary human hepatocyte suspension model was used with targeted liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry to investigate substrate depletion for 54 PFAS. A median value of 4.52 μL/(min x million cells) was observed across those that showed significant clearance, with 35 displaying no substrate depletion. Bayesian modeling propagated uncertainty around clearance values for use in IVIVE models. Structural evaluations showed the fluorotelomer carboxylic acids were the only PFAS carboxylates showing appreciable clearance, and per- and polyfluorosulfonamides were more readily metabolized than other PFAS sulfonates. Biotransformation product prediction, using the chemical transformation simulator, suggested hydrolysis of PFAS sulfonamides to more stable sulfonic acids, which is an important consideration for exposure modeling. This effort greatly expands the PFAS in vitro toxicokinetic dataset, enabling refined TK modeling, in silico tool development, and NAM-based human health evaluations across this important set of emerging contaminants.

As more data become available, the Banff 2007 working classification of skin-containing vascularized composite allograft (VCA) pathology is expected to evolve and develop. This report represents the Banff VCA Working Group's consensus on the first revision of the 2007 scoring system. Prior to the 2022 Banff-CanXadian Society of Transplantation Joint Meeting, 83 clinicians and/or researchers were invited to a virtual meeting to discuss whether the 2007 Banff VCA system called for a revision. Unanimously, it was determined that the vascular changes were to be included in the first revision. Subsequently, 2 international online surveys, each followed by virtual discussions, were launched. The goals were (1) to identify which changes define severe rejection, (2) to grade their importance in the evaluation of severe rejection, and (3) to identify emerging criteria to diagnose rejection. A final hybrid (in-person and virtual) discussion at the Banff/Canadian Society of Transplantation Joint Meeting finalized the terminology, the definition, a scoring system, and a reporting system of the vascular changes. Air pollution is known to be one of the major risk factors for premature morbidity and mortality globally, which are preventable. Therefore, the public is informed about air pollution through the Air Quality Index (AQI). The AQI represents integrated data of selected pollutants and produces a combined overall index for specific locations and time. The AQI algorithm generates a range of numbers and categories of colors that indicate likely health risks from air pollutants and the public's actions to minimize the risks. However, it lacks emerging evidence on chemical toxicity or composition. Hence, policymakers may also consider addinga toxicity matrix of fine particles to refine the algorithm, such as oxidative potential. Further, the risk is commonly communicated in numbers and not in color as dictated by the AQI. The AQI values and categories vary significantly between countries for the same pollution concentration, leading to confusion. Hence, we recommend developing a universal AQI (UAQI) with a consistent relationship between colors, concentrations, and toxicity to communicate air pollution risks to the public. Further, communication media should be encouraged to use universal color-coding rather than AQI values, i.e., numbers. Background: Choledochal cysts are rare congenital anomalies of the biliary tree that may lead to obstruction, chronic inflammation, infection, and malignancy. There is wide variation in the timing of resection, operative approach, and reconstructive techniques. Outcomes have rarely been compared on a national level., Methods: We queried the Pediatric National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) to identify patients who underwent choledochal cyst excision from 2015 to 2020. Patients were stratified by hepaticoduodenostomy (HD) versus Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy (RNYHJ), use of minimally invasive surgery (MIS), and age at surgery. We collected several outcomes, including length of stay (LOS), reoperation, complications, blood transfusions, and readmission rate. We compared outcomes between cohorts using nonparametric tests and multivariate regression., Results: Altogether, 407 patients met the study criteria, 150 (36.8%) underwent RNYHJ reconstruction, 100 (24.6%) underwent MIS only, and 111 (27.3%) were less than one year old. Patients who underwent open surgery were younger (median age 2.31 vs. 4.25 years, p = 0.002) and more likely underwent RNYHJ reconstruction (42.7% vs. 19%, p = 0.001). On adjusted analysis, the outcomes of LOS, reoperation, transfusion, and complications were similar between the type of reconstruction, operative approach, and age. Patients undergoing RNYHJ had lower rates of readmission than patients undergoing HD (4.0% vs. 10.5%, OR 0.34, CI [0.12, 0.79], p = 0.02)., Conclusions: In children with choledochal cysts, most short-term outcomes were similar between reconstructive techniques, operative approach, and age at resection, although HD reconstruction was associated with a higher readmission rate in this study. The average global temperature is rising due to anthropogenic emissions. Hence, a systematic approach was used to examine the projected impacts of rising global temperatures on heatwaves in India and provide insights into mitigation and adaptation strategies. With over 24,000 deaths attributed to heatwaves from 1992 to 2015, there is an urgent need to understand India's vulnerabilities and prepare adaptive strategies under various emission scenarios.This situation is predicted to worsen as heatwaves become more frequent, intense, and long-lasting. Severe heatwaves can exacerbate chronic health conditions, vector-borne diseases, air pollution, droughts and other socio-economic pressures causing higher mortality and morbidity. Heatwaves with severe consequences have increased and are expected to become more frequent in Indian climatic and geographical conditions. As per the future projection studies, the temperature could rise ±1.2 ° C to ±3.5 ° C and will start reducing by the end of 2050. The study also provides data from the research that employs climatic models and statistical approaches for a more precise characterization of heat extremes and improved projections. Also, the study appraises the past, present and future heatwave trend projections. Most of these studies compute future projections using the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP5) models and Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP). Limited systematic reports have been found using CMIP6, whereas the best-suited and widely used method was the RCP8.5. Few studies are available on the environmental and toxicological effects of perfluoroalkyl ether carboxylic acids (PFECAs), such as GenX, which are replacing legacy PFAS in manufacturing processes. To collect initial data on the toxicity and toxicokinetics of a longer-chain PFECA, male and female Sprague Dawley rats were exposed to perfluoro-(2,5,8-trimethyl-3,6,9-trioxadodecanoic) acid (HFPO-TeA) by oral gavage for five days over multiple dose levels (0.3-335.2 mg/kg/day). Clinically, we observed mortality at doses >17 mg/kg/day and body weight changes at doses ≤17 mg/kg/day. For the 17 mg/kg/day dose level, T3 and T4 thyroid hormone concentrations were significantly decreased ( p < 0.05) from controls and HFPO-TeA plasma concentrations were significantly different between sexes. Non-targeted analysis of plasma and in vitro hepatocyte assay extractions revealed the presence of another GenX oligomer, perfluoro-(2,5-dimethyl-3,6-dioxanonanoic) acid (HFPO-TA). In vitro to in vivo extrapolation (IVIVE) parameterized with in vitro toxicokinetic data predicted steady-state blood concentrations that were within seven-fold of those observed in the in vivo study, demonstrating reasonable predictivity. The evidence of thyroid hormone dysregulation, sex-based differences in clinical results and dosimetry, and IVIVE predictions presented here suggest that the replacement PFECA HFPO-TeA induces a complex and toxic exposure response in rodents.

Worldwide, harmful emissions from coal power plants cause many illnesses contribute to premature deaths burden. Despite its high impact on human health and being a major source of toxic pollutants, coal has been considered a component of global energy for decades. Hence, this work was envisaged to understand the rising environmental and multiple health issues from coal power plants. Studies on the adverse impacts of coal power plants on the environment, including soil, surface water, groundwater and air, were critically evaluated. The health risk from exposure to different pollutants and toxic metals released from the power plant was also demonstrated. The study also highlighted the government initiatives and policies regarding coal power operation and generation. Lastly, the study focused on guiding coal power plant owners and policymakers in identifying the essential cues for the risk assessment and management. The current study found an association between environmental and human health risks due to power generation, which needs intervention from the scientific and medical fields to jointly address public concerns. For the last few decades, air pollution in developing country like India is increasing, and it is a matter of huge concern due to its associated human health impacts. In this region, the burgeoning population, escalating urbanization and industrialization, has been cited as the major reason for such a high air pollution. The present study was carried out for health risk assessment of aerosol particles (PM 10 and PM 2.5 ) and its associated heavy metals of an agriculture farm site at Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) considered to be green urban area in Delhi, India. The concentrations of both PM 10 and PM 2.5 varied significantly from 136 to 177 µg/m 3 and 56 to 162 µg/m 3 , respectively at the site. In the present case, the highest PM 10 and PM 2.5 levels were reported in January, followed by December. The levels of ambient PM 10 and PM 2.5 are influenced by wind prevailing meteorology. These levels of PM 10 and PM 2.5 are more than the permissible limits of WHO guidelines of 15 and 5 µg/m 3 , respectively, thereby leading to high aerosol loadings specifically in winters. The PM concentration of the atmosphere was found to be negatively correlated with temperature during the sampling period. The concentrations of surface ozone O 3 and NO x in the present study were observed to be high in February and March, respectively. The increasing air pollution in the city of Delhi poses a great risk to the human health, as the particulate matter loaded with heavy metals can enter humans via different pathways, viz., ingestion, inhalation, and absorption through skin. The mean hazard index for metals (Zn, Pb, Cd, As, Cr, and Ni) was observed within the acceptable limit (HI < 1), thereby indicating negligible non-carcinogenic effects to residing population. The carcinogenic risk assessment was conducted for Cd, Pb, and As only, as the concentrations for other metals were found to be quite low. The carcinogenic risk values were also within the limits of USEPA standards, indicating no carcinogenic risks to the health of children and adults residing near the site. This information about the PM pollution at the agricultural site and health risk assessment will serve as a baseline data in assessment of human health impacts due to air pollution at the local scale and can be used for development of mitigation strategies for tackling air pollution., (© 2023. Exposure to particulate matter less than 2.5 µm in diameter (PM 2.5 ) is a cause of concern in cities and major emission regions of northern India. An intensive field campaign involving the states of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi national capital region (NCR) was conducted in 2022 using 29 Compact and Useful PM 2.5 Instrument with Gas sensors (CUPI-Gs). Continuous observations show that the PM 2.5 in the region increased gradually from < 60 µg m -3 in 6-10 October to up to 500 µg m -3 on 5-9 November, which subsequently decreased to about 100 µg m -3 in 20-30 November. Two distinct plumes of PM 2.5 over 500 µg m -3 are tracked from crop residue burning in Punjab to Delhi NCR on 2-3 November and 10-11 November with delays of 1 and 3 days, respectively. The seasonal quality of groundwater and its appropriateness for drinking and irrigation were assessed using a multiple indexing approach in this study. Physicochemical and ionic parameters were examined in groundwater samples near the industrial zone of Rupnagar, Punjab. To assess groundwater quality, water quality index (WQI) and pollution index were used. The Durov's, piper, wilcox and stiff diagrams were plotted to understand the hydro-chemistry. Similarly, the irrigation indices, i.e., salinity hazard, sodium adsorption ratio, soluble sodium percentage (Na%), magnesium adsorption ratio, residual sodium carbonate, permeability index and Kelley's ratio were applied to ascertain the water quality for agricultural purposes. As a result, total hardness, calcium (Ca 2+ ), magnesium (Mg 2+ ) and fluoride (F - ) were found above the standard permissible limits. WQI analysis showed 12% samples of pre-monsoon (PRE-M) and 28% samples of post-monsoon (POS-M) were of poor quality, which may pose health risks. Hydrochemistry revealed the predominance of Ca 2+ , Na + , Mg 2+ and HCO 3 - ions in the groundwater attributed to natural and anthropogenic sources. Piper diagram revealed Ca 2+ -Mg 2+ -Cl - , Na + -Cl - , Ca 2+ -Na + - HCO 3 - , Ca 2+ - HCO 3 - and Ca 2+ -Cl, Ca 2+ -HCO 3 - water types exist in the study area. USSL diagram showed that the samples from both seasons come under the low salinity hazard. In addition, total dissolved solids and electrical conductivity showed a strong positive association, indicating the saline nature of groundwater. Furthermore, hierarchical clustering classified groundwater into three groups (I, II and III), revealing that groundwater quality varies due to natural and anthropogenic effects. Based on the findings, the groundwater was found marginally suitable for drinking and irrigation purposes. Near real-time monitoring of major air pollutants, i.e., particulate matter (PM 10 , PM 2.5 , PM 1 ), trace gases (O 3 , CO, NO, NO 2 , NO x , NH 3 , CO 2 , SO 2 ) and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs: benzene, ethylbenzene, m-, p-xylene, o-xylene and toluene) along with climatological parameters was done in eight-cities field campaigns during the rabi (wheat) crop residue burning period in the northwest of Indo-Gangetic Plain (IGP) region. The phase-wise monitoring was done at eight locations representing rural, semi-urban and urban backgrounds. During the whole campaign, the semi-urban site (Sirsa) observed the highest average concentration of PM 10 (226 ± 111 μg m -3 ) and PM 2.5 (91 ± 67 μg m -3 ). The urban site (Chandigarh) reported the minimum concentrations of all the three size fractions of particulate matter with PM 10 as 89 ± 54 μg m -3 , PM 2.5 as 42 ± 22 μg m -3 and PM 1 as 20 ± 13 μg m -3 where the monitoring was done in the early phase of the campaign. The highest VOC concentration was recorded at the semi-urban (Sirsa) site, whereas the lowest was at a rural location (Fatehgarh Sahib). NH 3 concentration was observed highest in rural sites (31.7 ± 29.8 ppbv), which can be due to the application of fertilizers in agricultural activities. Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) based fire and thermal anomalies, along with HYSPLIT back trajectory analysis, show that major air masses over monitoring sites (22 %-70 %) were from the rabi crop residue burning regions. The characteristic ratios and Principal component analysis (PCA) results show that diverse sources, i.e., emissions from crop residue burning, solid biomass fuels, vehicles and industries, majorly degrade the regional air quality.
