- Abstract
The article presents a study on papain treatment of wool polyester blend fabrics. It presents a study of the viability of one-step finishing with papain to wool polyester blend fabric. The study involved the scouring, rinsing and drying of wool polyester blended fabric samples in preparation for the enzymatic treatment. Papain from carica papaya is utilized in the enzymatic treatment, after which samples are incubated and washed several times and measured in terms of weight loss, tensile strength, whiteness, water contact angle and dyeability. Results show that wool polyester blend fabric using papain treatment showed 7.5% weight loss and decrease in tensile strength.
