323. Dynamic Process of Digital Image of Molten Droplets Analysis Based on Magnesium Alloy Double Arc Welding

Abstract

In this work, systematically combined with a series of classical image processing algorithms, a novel topology method for processing the dynamic process of double-electrode gas metal arc welding (DE-GMAW) melt droplet digital images was proposed. The number of melt droplets and melt profile information, such as area size, were accurately obtained by this method. In addition, a two-dimensional (2D) simulation of the droplet transformation process of DE-GMAW was performed, and the transformation of droplet morphology was tracked using the fluid volume method. The results showed that the numerical simulation results of DE-GMAW are consistent with the number and area of molten droplets obtained by the proposed method.

Abstract

The social contact patterns associated with the infectious disease transmitted by airborne droplets or close contact follow specific rules. Understanding these processes can improve the accuracy of disease transmission models, permitting their integration into model simulations. In this study, we performed a large-scale population-based survey to collect social contact patterns in three cities on the Pearl River Delta of China in winter and summer. A total of 5,818 participants were face-to-face interviewed and 35,542 contacts were recorded. The average number of contacts per person each day was 16.7 considering supplementary professional contacts (SPCs). Contacts that occurred on a daily basis, lasted more than 4 hours, and took place in households were more likely to involve physical contact. The seasonal characteristics of social contact were heterogeneous, such that contact in the winter was more likely to involve physical contact compared to summer months. The spatial characteristics of the contacts were similar. Social mixing patterns differed according to age, but all ages maintained regular contact with their peers. Taken together, these findings describe the spatiotemporal distribution of social contact patterns relevant to infections in the Guangdong Province of China. This information provides important parameters for mathematical models of infectious diseases.

331. Spatial Configuration Design for Multistatic Airborne SAR Based on Multiple Objective Particle Swarm Optimization

Abstract

Multistatic airborne synthetic aperture radar (MuA-SAR) systems can achieve high-resolution imaging in a short time by fusing observation data from multiple radar platforms. However, its imaging quality relies on a rigorous design of the spatial configuration (SC) of each platform, mainly including the relative spatial separation and velocity. The rigorously designed SCs make it difficult to obtain in actual flight and weaken the flexibility advantage brought by the airborne platforms. Therefore, it is meaningful and necessary to explore a new SC design method to obtain relaxed SCs under the condition of ensuring imaging quality. In this article, to relax the limitations of SC, an optimal design method for MuA-SAR SC is proposed. First, the relationship between the SC, wavenumber spectrum (WS) distribution, and imaging performance is established, and it visually reveals the configuration limitations. Second, an optimized search space of SC is defined by the peak-to-sidelobe ratio (PSLR) to relax the space to compromised configurations. Finally, the SC design problem is transformed into a constrained multiple objective optimization problem (CMOP) which is solved by the multiple objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO) algorithm. The simulation results show that the proposed method can still obtain the optimized SC beyond the strictly restricted configuration space, which expands the SC limitations of the MuA-SAR system.

332. Unsupervised Cryo-EM Images Denoising and Clustering Based on Deep Convolutional Autoencoder and K-Means++

Abstract

Cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) is a widely used structural determination technique. Because of the extremely low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of images captured by cryo-EM, clustering single-particle cryo-EM images with high accuracy is challenging. To address this, we proposed an iterative denoising and clustering method based on a deep convolutional variational autoencoder and K-means++. The proposed method contains two modules: a denoising ResNet variational autoencoder (DRVAE), and Balance size K-means++ (BSK-means++). First, the DRVAE is trained in a fully unsupervised manner to initialize the neural network and obtain preliminary denoised images. Second, BSK-means++ is built for clustering denoised images, and images closer to class centers are divided into reliable samples. Third, the training of DRVAE is continued, while the class-average images are used as pseudo supervision of reliable samples to reserve more detailed information of denoised images. Finally, the second and third steps mentioned above can be performed jointly and iteratively until convergence occurs. The experimental results showed that the proposed method can generate reliable class average images and achieve better clustering accuracy and normalized mutual information than current methods. This study confirmed that DRVAE with BSK-means++ could achieve a good denoise performance on single-particle cryo-EM images, which can help researchers obtain information such as symmetry and heterogeneity of the target particles. In addition, the proposed method avoids the extreme imbalance of class size, which improves the reliability of the clustering result.

Abstract

• Magnetron sputtering-based coating was proposed to enhance LRM cathode performance. • LiPON coating mitigates LRM particle microstructure damage and phase change. • LiPON coating improved Li+ ionic conductivity and interfacial ion transport kinetics. This study presents the application of magnetron sputtering for the conformal coating of lithium phosphorus oxynitride (LiPON) onto lithium-rich manganese oxide (LRM) materials, aiming to enhance their electrochemical performance through a cost-effective and time-efficient strategy. The LRM with approximately 0.058 % mass loading of LiPON coating (LRM-2) exhibited remarkable reversible capacities of 173.9 mAh/g and 192.5 mAh/g over 200 cycles at 25 °C and 60 °C, respectively, under 1 C charge/discharge current density. Comprehensive characterization studies revealed that LiPON modification significantly improved lithium ionic conductivity, interfacial ion transport kinetics, and interface compatibility with the electrolyte. The stable cathode-electrolyte interface effectively mitigated structural damage to LRM particles, suppressed interfacial oxygen release-induced phase transformation, and stabilized the material's microstructures. Our sputtering-based conformal coating strategy is easily accessible and low-cost, with significant commercial application potential, offering a promising universal approach for enhancing the electrochemical performance of LRM cathode powder materials. Abstract

Palpation localization is essential for detecting physiological parameters of the radial artery for pulse diagnosis of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Detecting signal or applying pressure at the wrong location can seriously affect the measurement of pulse waves and result in misdiagnosis. In this paper, we propose an effective and high accuracy regression model using 3-dimensional convolution neural networks (CNN) processing near-infrared picture sequences to locate radial artery upon radius at the wrist. Comparing with early studies using 2-dimensional models, 3Dcnn introduces temporal features with the third dimension to leverage pulsation rhythms, and had achieved superior performance accuracy as 0.87 within 50 pixels at testing resolution of 1024 × 544. Model visualization shows that the additional dimension of the temporal convolution highlights dynamic changes within image sequences. 335. Hippocampal Activated Microglia May Contribute to Blood–Brain Barrier Impairment and Cognitive Dysfunction in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder-Like Rats.

Abstract

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)-associated cognitive dysfunction significantly disturbs patients' quality of life and will to live. However, its underlying mechanism is as yet unknown. Recent researches indicate that blood–brain barrier (BBB) breakdown is responsible for early cognitive dysfunction. Microglia might participate in remodeling of BBB-associated tight junction and regulating BBB integrity. Nevertheless, it is unclear whether microglia activation and BBB injury involve in PTSD-associated cognitive dysfunction. Hence, we established an animal model of PTSD, single prolonged stress (SPS), and investigated permeability changes in the hippocampus and further explored the effects of microglia on BBB remodeling. The Y maze was used to assess the changes of cognitive function. The sodium fluorescein (NaFlu) assay and western blotting analysis were employed to detect BBB integrity changes. Minocycline was administered to inhibit microglial activation. Immunofluorescence stains were used to assess the activation states in microglia. The results showed that SPS-exposed rats exhibited poorer cognitive performance, higher passage of NaFlu, and lower expression of tight junction proteins (occludin and claudin 5) in the hippocampus on the day after SPS, but no difference on the 7th day. Inhibition of microglial activation by minocycline attenuated poor cognitive performance and BBB impairment including the extravasation of NaFlu and protein levels of the tight junction. Taken together, the present study indicates that BBB impairment may underlie the shared pathological basis of PTSD and cognitive dysfunction.
