324. Effective Continuing Education for Breast Disease: A Randomized Trial Comparing Home Study and Workshop Formats.

Pretests and posttests of 25 physicians who took a home-study course on breast disease and 25 who attended a workshop showed that both groups significantly increased knowledge and were more comfortable dealing with patient-care issues. Both formats were equally effective. (SK)

326. The impact of restaurant calorie labels on food choice: results from a field experiment

Abstract

Using field experiment data, we compare the effectiveness of calorie labels to a 'fat tax ' at reducing calories ordered. Results from a structural model of consumer demand show that numeric labels did not influence food choice, but symbolic traffic light labels caused restaurant patrons to select lower-calorie menu items; thus, adding a traffic light symbol could enhance the effectiveness of the numeric calorie label (as currently proposed by the Food and Drug Administration). Additionally, our model projects that labels can both reduce intake more than a 10% tax on high-calorie items and a 10% subsidy on low-calorie items. (JEL Q18, I18), I. Abstract

This book contains papers presented at an "Interactive Research Conference" held in June 1996 at the University of Central England. The conference focused on the pioneering work of Professor Dorothy Heathcote in the field of drama in education. Twenty-three different countries were represented at the conference. The book has three sections. Section 1, "Responses and Outcomes," includes: (1) "Dorothy Heathcote Reflects with Gavin Bolton"; and (2) "Truth and Imagination - A Little Investigation in Three Fits" (John Fines). Abstract

The implementation of a magnetic suspension system in the NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC) 225 cm2 Supersonic Wind Tunnel would be a powerful test technique that could accurately determine the dynamic stability of blunt body entry vehicles with no sting interference. This paper explores initial design challenges to be evaluated before implementation, including defining the lowest possible operating dynamic pressure and corresponding model size, developing a compatible video analysis technique, and incorporating a retractable initial support sting.
