Toxicidade Aguda ,Pressão Arterial ,Perfusão - Abstract
Auxemma oncocalyx, of the Boraginaceae family, is a characteristic tree of the Brazilian northeast popularly known as "white pau". The chemical investigation of the hydroalcoholic extract of the stem of the plant allowed the isolation of several quinones, among them the oncocalixone A (onco-A). Pharmacological studies for this quinone indicated antitumor, antimitotic, analgesic, antiedematogenic, antiplatelet and antidiabetic activity. However, like other substances derived from the secondary metabolism of plants, quinones can cause considerable toxic reactions. The absence of toxicological data in vivo of the substance and its potential for clinical use motivated the execution of this work, which aimed to investigate the acute toxicity in vivo of the onco-A and to evaluate the pressure and renal effects of this quinone, as possible target organs of Toxicity. It was initiated with the limit dose test established in protocols 420, 423 and 425 of the OECD, oral acute toxicity, with administration of 2000 mg / kg onco-A, in female Swiss mice, for determination of LD50 and Signs of toxicity for 14 days. Plasma levels of urea, creatinine and uric acid were measured as well as histological analysis of the main organs (heart, lung and kidney) after 14 days. The effects of onco-A on mean arterial pressure were measured in anesthetized normotensive male Wistar rats submitted to cumulative concentrations of the substance (30, 100, 300 and 1000 μg / kg). The plasma levels of urea, creatinine, uric acid , TGO, TGP, alkaline phosphatase and CK-Total were evaluated in these animals, in addition to histological analysis of heart and kidneys. For evaluation of renal function, male Wistar rats were surgically excised and perfused with modified Krebs-Henseleit solution at three concentrations of onco-A (1, 3 and 10 μg / ml). The data were compared statistically considering p 2000mg / kg, indicating that it is a low lethality substance. The substance reduced mean blood pressure significantly in the last two concentrations (300 and 1000 μg / kg). Treatment with onco-A did not alter the biochemical parameters evaluated in vivo. In the isolated kidney infusion, the onco-A increased the Perfusion Pressure (PP) in the three concentrations studied, with a proportional increase in Renal Vascular Resistance (RVR). The Glomerular Filtration Rhythm (RFG) presented transient decrease with onco-A 1 μg / mL, increase in the 3 μg / mL group, and irreversible reduction with 10 μg / mL. Urine Flow (FU) increased in all groups, while the percentages of total tubular transport of sodium (% TNa), chloride (% TCl-) and potassium (% TK +) were reduced. The histological analysis of the organs collected in the protocols showed a significant toxicity of the substance. The results showed low lethality of the substance in an acute exposure, but this induced morphological alterations indicative of tissue damage, blood pressure reduction and changes in all renal functional parameters, evidencing the toxic potential of this quinone.

Intellectual disabilities are one of the main causes due to which people can seldom reach a completely independent living. Down syndrome is the world's most common chromosomal disorder and cause of intellectual disability. Cognitive development is usually delayed and learning difficulties persist throughout life. Typically, individuals with Down syndrome tend to have difficulty in abstraction, generalization and, in particular, with short-term memory. They often seem to forget learned skills from one day to the next, as previous learning is often not transferred to future experiences. This is a problem in every learning context, including mobility. Nevertheless, a large number of people with the Down syndrome can reach a good level of independence; many have a job and can move by themselves along known paths in town. These skills are traditionally learnt through a long training performed by expert educators in a face-to-face situation. Within the Smart Angel project, a system based on cloud computing technologies and geolocation systems (both satellite and terrestrial) has been developed. The target users find in their Smart Phones a guardian angel that quietly supports them in their everyday life and is always ready to help in case of need. They can move freely around town knowing that, if needed, help can be asked at any time. Furthermore, the system supports specific activities where the users typically have difficulty as, for example, time management. The Smart Angel system offers the users the possibility to learn the new paths in town by actually moving along them, avoiding the use of maps, which require a certain amount of abstraction. Furthermore, it offers the possibility to implement an instructional scaffolding approach: constant support is offered during the learning process, which is tailored to the needs of the user, with the intention of helping him/her achieve his/her learning goals. Researches have demonstrated that scaffolding helps learners with Down syndrome in their learning process by easing the burden of the short-term memory. Educators and families are often overprotective and underestimate the possessed abilities. Smart Angel, by tracking the users' movements and showing them in real time to the educators in charge, allows more freedom and discoveries without leaving the individuals completely alone. They can therefore experiment the newly learnt skills and further develop them by moving autonomously and discovering new areas in town. Should unforeseen situations arise, they will be managed by the users with the immediate assistance of his educator. The Cloud Based system stores all the users' data allowing the educators both real time monitoring on the maps and an offline historical analysis of the users' data to have information about their movements, the areas covered, and their behaviours: how much did they actually use the system, how often did they ask for help, etc. This gives the educators a better and more complete understanding of the real level of ability reached by the users allowing them to decide how much support is needed by the single learner. As the users' abilities grow, the educators gradually step back as the user gets more and more independent.

This paper presents two studies that examine emergent leadership in children’s collaborative learning groups. Building on research that finds that leadership moves are distributed among group members during learning activities, we examined whether there were patterns in the distribution of moves, resulting in different types of emergent leaders in groups. Study one examines individual groups working with a teacher, on the same task either with paper or multi-touch tables. Study two examines groups of students in a multi-touch classroom. Results from study one indicated that the leadership was distributed among the students; the distributions aligned with classifications of intellectual leadership moves and organizational leadership moves for about half of the groups. There were no differences in emergent leadership between the multi-touch and paper conditions. These results were explored in more detail in a multi-touch classroom study, exploring emergent leadership in 22 groups of students across six classes. Again, leadership was distributed among group members, and specific roles of intellectual and organizational leader, taken on by two different students, could be identified in half of the groups. These results suggest that attention should be paid to how students are engaging in collaborative learning tasks to ensure all students participate in the intellectual as well as organizational demands of the task. Additionally, the pattern of the distribution of roles suggests that care should be taken to specify behaviors if the role of leader is assigned to collaborative groups.

The Early Miocene sites of Napak (Uganda), which have been prospected by the Uganda Palaeontology Expedition since 1985, have yielded abundant fossil remains, including a rich and diverse rodent fauna. Ever since the work of Lavocat (1973) on the East African Miocene rodents, which focused mainly on the Kenyan remains (but included some material from Napak discovered by Bishop during the 1950s and 1960s), few studies have been made on the Ugandan specimens. This lack provides motivation for further study of Napak micro-mammals, especially the abundant rodents, which were collected at five sites, Napak IV, V, XV, XXX and XXXI. The fossils described here are attributed to six species representing four families: Afrocricetodontidae (Afrocricetodon songhori , Protarsomys macinnesi), Myophiomyidae (Myophiomys arambourgi), Kenyamyidae (Simonimys genovefae , Kenyamys mariae) and Sciuridae (Vulcanisciurus africanus). Comparison of the dentition of extant and extinct taxa allows us to propose dietary hypotheses (granivory, herbivory and omnivory) for these rodents. In addition, the fossil rodents associated with other fauna from the same localities suggest a more-or-less dense forest environment with clearings, and the probable presence of a humid climate at the time of deposition. Purpose: The objective of this study was to identify if there is a statistical difference in the students' perception of different undergraduate courses of a federal institution of higher education on the teaching-learning process of the disciplines in the area of cost accounting. Methodology: An instrument was elaborated by Paswan and Young (2002) that analyzed academic characteristics that influence students' perception, through the constructs: teacher involvement; student involvement; student-teacher interaction; discipline demands; organization of the subject under study. Thus, through the analysis of the assertions defined in these constructs, it was possible to verify the students' perceptions regarding the discipline, the teacher and their behaviors. It is, therefore, a descriptive research, of quantitative approach, using statistical tests and regarding the procedures the survey was adopted with questionnaire application. Results: It was pointed out that there are problems not only with regard to the demands of disciplines in the area of cost accounting, but also to the aspects of dedication of the students regarding their involvement and dedication to the study, emphasizing also the students' reluctance to assume responsibilities and to perform efforts. In addition, differences in the perceptions pointed out in the results indicate that, with regard to the analyzed constructs, there is a need to improve accounting education. Contributions of the Study: The study contributes to the fact that teachers and academic managers are aware of possible weaknesses of teaching methods in the analyzed area in order to provide guidance for improvement in teaching, since it is a discipline that is present in the curricular matrices of different courses of study and with high rates of disapproval. It's clear that plastic pyrolysis has become a popular solution for recycling post-consumer plastic, as evidenced by the growing number of research articles and companies exploring the technology. However, the success of the process is heavily reliant on the downstream steps before the pyrolyzed product is fed to steam cracking. To improve the chemical process and maximize the yields of desired products, catalysts may be a viable option. This research paper presents a simple model for analyzing thermal pyrolysis kinetics, followed by a catalytic step. Utilizing high-density polyethylene and two catalysts, we have successfully demonstrated the benefits of our tool. The model enables the identification of the optimal setup, including the ideal temperature, catalyst mass, and residence time, resulting in improved processes and maximum output of the desired products. • A speedy and effective method to identify the optimal pyrolysis conditions. • Flexible, easy, fast-to-implement monitor of the catalyst's efficiency and use. • Parameter-estimation based on simple experimental apparatus and analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Sleep is a natural and recurring state, in which important neurobiological processes take place. Poor quality of sleep is directly associated with worse health indicators. Sleep quality can be measured objectively and subjectively by methods such as polysomnography, which is the gold standard, or tests and questionnaires as the Sleep Quality Index in Pittsburgh (PSQI).OBJECTIVE: To correlate the quality of sleep with exercise tolerance in patients with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS).METHODS: The study included 63 subjects (57 women and 6 men) aged 51.7 ± 6.6 years, with body mass index (BMI) 28.2 ± 5.0 kg/m2,apnea/hypopnea index (AHI) 7.3±10:50 events/hour, assessed by polysomnography. To assess the quality of sleep, participants responded the PSQI instrument and were submitted to the exercise tolerance test through the 6-minute walk test (6MWT).RESULTS: There was no correlation between the PSQI and the 6MWT (Rs = -0.103620, p = 0.419), and between the 6MWT and the AHI (R = -0, 000984, p = 0.9939). According to the results of this work, we suggest that the quality of sleep and the severity of OSAHS did not affect the exercise tolerance of individuals with OSAHS.CONCLUSION: Studies with a larger sample, taking into account the stratification by severity of OSAHS and using more accurate methods of functional capacity evaluation should be conducted, so that more comprehensive results can be obtained. It´s visible in the city of Viana do Castelo, since a while ago, the existence of a group of people who walk regularly as a way of physical activity and physical exercise. Once understood the functionality of walking like a mode of exercise tended democratic and an easy way to fight against the sedentary and on earning a healthier life style, it gained scientific interest and local utility to identify and to characterize the phenomenon. Thereunto the purposes of this study were to understand the practice of walking in Viana do Castelo, identify the profile of the usual walkers on urban area, characterize their walking habits and identify the factors of motivation to walk. To this end, it has been conducted an exploratory study with a transversal and descriptive nature, based on survey methodology and applied a presence questionnaire on four major locations previously identified as used by walkers: Via Entre Santos, Parque da Cidade, Praia Norte e Largo 5 de Outubro. Most of walkers were found in the Praia Norte área. The most of respondents was women, between 50 and 69 years old, married and without belonging to an association or with habits of physical activity in some structured context. Their qualifications are varied, but the majority is employed. These people walk for over a year, less than an hour a day, but more than three days a week in the company of family and traversing a normal path, being the choice of the path related, in large part, with the landscape. At the base of this habit are the psychological health and health prevention rather than the relationship with nature or even physical activity.

The urban forest, by the set of roles it plays, has a growing importance in the environmental and aesthetic appreciation of urban spaces. At the same time, however, is simultaneously subject to the limitations that these spaces imply in their growth. Intending to evaluate the capacity of installation and development of young trees in the urban space, 2297 individuals were studied from 29 specie/form/cultivar/hybrid planted in green corridors of Porto’s Metro surface for a period of 9 years of mensuration. The study took place in the North of Porto Metropolitan Area because it was considered an area with a greater variety of conditions (pollution of different types of issuers, urbanized areas and rural/forest areas, infrastructure, green spaces most recently planted and monitored, etc). In the evaluation of the growth and development, were considered biotic factors (diseases and pests), abiotic factors (air pollution, soil compaction, water, solar radiation conditions), and the mechanical actions developed by man, deliberate or occasionally (pruning, canopy management, root collar injuries and trunk injuries and vandalism). Finally, indicators of capacity for growth and implementation of trees were obtained based on its growth and diameters, mortality rates and vigor that are considered themselves, simultaneously, positive and potential indicators of tree planting as a component in urban development projects.

We continue previous work by various authors and study the birational geometry of moduli spaces of stable rank-two vector bundles on surfaces with Kodaira dimension −∞. To this end, we express vector bundles as natural extensions by using two numerical invariants associated to vector bundles, similar to the invariants defined by Brînzănescu and Stoia in the case of minimal surfaces. We compute explicitly these natural extensions on blowups of general points on a minimal surface. In the case of rational surfaces, we prove that any irreducible component of a moduli space is either rational or stably rational. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
