Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are associated with oocyte maturation inhibition, and N‐acetyl‐l‐cysteine (NAC) partially reduces their harmful effects. Mitochondrial E3 ubiquitin ligase 1 (Mul1) localizes to the mitochondrial outer membrane. We found that female Mul1‐deficient mice are infertile, and their oocytes contain high ROS concentrations. After fertilization, Mul1‐deficient embryos showed a DNA damage response (DDR) and abnormal preimplantation embryogenesis, which was rescued by NAC addition and ROS depletion. These observations clearly demonstrate that loss of Mul1 in oocytes increases ROS concentrations and triggers DDR, resulting in abnormal preimplantation embryogenesis. Objective Methods Results Conclusion To investigate the associations between parity (the number of offspring a female has borne) and cognitive function, depression, and chronic comorbidity in Western China.A total of 846 women aged 50–55 years were included in the current analysis. Cognitive status was measured using a 10‐item short portable mental status questionnaire (SPMSQ). Depressive symptoms were assessed using the 15‐item geriatric depression scale (GDS‐15). Other characteristics were self‐reported. The associations between parity and cognitive decline, depression, and chronic comorbidity were analyzed using univariable and multivariable models. Multivariable models were adjusted for age, ethnic group, occupation, marital status, educational level, lifestyle factors, and sleeping time.Among the enrolled women, 26.71% were either childless or had one child, 47.40% had two children, 18.32% had three children, and 7.57% had ≥4 children. Compared to women with low parity, women with two or more children exhibited a higher risk of cognitive decline. Moreover, having four or more children was significantly associated with depression and chronic comorbidity. After adjusting covariates, women with three or more children exhibited a higher risk of cognitive decline than those with low parity. However, high parity was not significantly associated with depression or chronic comorbidity after adjustment for covariates.Our study showed that ≥3 children was associated with cognitive decline in women. Longitudinal studies are needed to evaluate this conclusion and to investigate the mechanisms involved. Background: It is reported that reduced physical activity and malnutrition may trigger pneumonia, and the utilisation of the geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) upon admission to long‐term nursing care can enable the implementation of accurate and timely rehabilitation and nutritional support, which may, in turn, minimise pneumonia incidence. However, to date, there is no reported association between GNRI and pneumonia among stable schizophrenic patients. Methods: This is a retrospective investigation. We enrolled 434 hospitalised subjects aged ≥50 years, who were diagnosed with stable schizophrenia between January 2017 and June 2022. Baseline nutritional status information during the stable stage of schizophrenia was evaluated using body mass index, serum albumin, and GNRI. In addition, pneumonia‐based information, including diagnosis and treatment, was retrospectively obtained within 1 year. To examine the potential association between nutrition indicators and pneumonia risk among stable schizophrenia patients, we employed a logistic regression analysis. Results: The pneumonia incidence among all stable schizophrenia patients was 10.14%, and there were no statistically significant difference between sexes (male vs. female, 10.63% vs. 9.44%, P = 0.687). Based on the univariate analysis of nutrition indicators and pneumonia, female patients exhibited a strong correlation between serum albumin and pneumonia (P = 0.022). Furthermore, we adjusted for potential influencing factors of pneumonia infection, and confirmed that only serum albumin was linked to pneumonia risk in female stable schizophrenia patients (odds ratio = 0.854, 95% CI: 0.749–0.975, P = 0.02). Background: Glycerophospholipids (GPLs) are essential for cell membrane structure and function. Sphingomyelin and its metabolites regulate cell growth, apoptosis, and stress responses. This study aimed to investigate lipid metabolism in patients experiencing sudden sensorineural hearing loss across all frequencies (AF-SSNHL). Methods: The study included 60 patients diagnosed with unilateral AF-SSNHL, among whom 30 patients had a level of hearing improvement ≥ 15 dB after 6 months of follow-up. A propensity score-matched (2:1) control group was used. Liquid chromatography‒mass spectrometry based untargeted lipidomics analysis combined with multivariate statistics was performed to investigate the lipids change. The "lipidome" R package and weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) were utilised to assess the lipids' structural features and the association between lipids and hearing. Results: Lipidomics successfully differentiated the AF-SSNHL group from the control group, identifying 17 risk factors, mainly including phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), and related metabolites. The ratios of lysophosphatidylcholine/PC, lysophosphatidylethanolamine/PE, and lysodimethylphosphatidylethanolamine/PE were upregulated, while some glycerophospholipid (GPL)-plasmalogens were downregulated in the AF-SSNHL group, indicating abnormal metabolism of GPLs. Trihexosylceramide (d34:1), PE (18:1e_22:5), and sphingomyelin (d40:3) were significantly different between responders and nonresponders, and positively correlated with hearing improvement. Additionally, the results of the WGCNA also suggested that partial GPL-plasmalogens were positively associated with hearing improvement. Conclusion: AF-SSNHL patients exhibited abnormally high blood lipids and pronounced GPLs metabolic abnormalities. Sphingolipids and GPL-plasmalogens had an association with the level of hearing improvement. Exceptional precision and excellent resolution reconstruction of sea surface currents are beneficial for exploring complex oceanic dynamic processes. Normally, this required physical inversion models for global or regional oceans are constructed to reconstruct oceanic currents. These models are based on the analysis of sea surface geostrophic and Ekman currents derived from satellite observations of sea level and wind stress fields. Nevertheless, the presence of various typical dynamic processes in marine environments, such as mesoscale eddies and small-scale waves, continues to pose challenges in accurately reconstructing oceanic currents. Meanwhile, any product of surface current that neglects the contribution of wave motion would, at best, be incomplete. Therefore, in this paper, we introduce an accurate sea surface current product at a depth of 15 m, named GEST (Geostrophic-Ekman-Stokes-Tide). This product is produced by a multi-scale dynamics-informed neural network that learns the intricate representation of concealed characteristics in Ekman, geostrophic currents, wave-induced Stokes drift, and TPXO9 tidal currents. Its structure design is predicated upon the intricate coupling relationships between various ocean surface components and the veritable currents discerned by the deployment of drift buoys, with each ocean surface component correlating to discrete physical processes. Compared with the prevailing product, the GEST confers an elevation in precision by approximately 9.2 cm/s over the traditional multinomial fitting method, 10.4 cm/s beyond the OSCAR, and 8.81 cm/s surpassing GlobCurrent. Longan (Dimcarpus longan Lour.) is a kind of traditional fruit used as a medicine and a food. Fresh longan is primarily consumed as a fruit, whereas dried longan is commonly employed for medicinal purposes. The differences in the immunomodulatory activities and mechanisms of polysaccharides between dried and fresh longan remain unclear. The present study comparatively analyzed the mechanisms of macrophage activation induced by polysaccharides from dried (LPG) and fresh longan (LPX). The results revealed that LPG and LPX differentially promoted macrophage phagocytosis and the secretion of NO, TNF-α, and IL-6. RNA-seq analysis revealed that LPG and LPX differentially affected gene expression in macrophages. The LPG treatment identified Tnf and chemokine-related genes as core genes, while myd88 and interferon-related genes were the core genes affected by LPX. A comprehensive analysis of the differentially expressed genes showed that LPG initiated macrophage activation primarily through the TLR2/4-mediated TRAM/TRAF6 and CLR-mediated Src/Raf1 NF-κB signaling pathways. LPX initiated macrophage activation predominantly via the CLR-mediated Bcl10/MALT1 and NLR-mediated Rip2/TAK1 MAPK and NF-κB signaling pathways. Interestingly, the non-classical NF-κB signaling pathway was activated by polysaccharides in both dried and fresh longan to elicit a slow, mild immune response. LPG tends to promote immune cell migration to engage in the immune response, while LPX facilitates antigen presentation to promote T cell activation. These findings contribute insights into the mechanisms underlying the differences in bioactivity between dried and fresh longan and their potential applications in immune-enhancing strategies and functional-food development. Purpose: Renal impairment (RI) is associated with unfavourable outcome after acute ischaemic stroke with anterior circulation large vessel occlusion. We assessed the association of RI with clinical outcomes in patients with acute basilar artery occlusion (ABAO), and the impact of RI on the effects of endovascular therapy (EVT) versus standard medical treatment (SMT). Patients and Methods: We used data from the BASILAR registry, an observational, prospective, nationwide study of patients with ABAO in routine clinical practice in China. Baseline estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was recorded at admission. The primary outcome was the modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score at 90 days. Secondary outcomes included favourable outcome (mRS score 0– 3), mortality, and symptomatic intracranial haemorrhage (sICH). Multivariate logistic regression was used to assess the association of RI with mortality and functional improvement at 90 days. Results: Among 829 patients enrolled, 747 patients were analysed. The median baseline eGFR was 89 mL/min/1.73m2 (IQR, 71– 100), and 350 (46.8%), 297 (39.8%), and 100 (13.4%) patients had baseline eGFR values of ≥ 90, 60– 89, and < 60 mL/min/1.73m2, respectively. RI was associated with increased mortality (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 1.97; 95% CI, 1.15– 3.67) at 90 days and decreased survival probability (aOR 1.74; 95% CI, 1.30– 2.33) within 1 year. EVT was associated with better functional improvement (common aOR, 2.50; 95% CI, 1.43– 4.35), favourable outcome (aOR 5.42; 95% CI, 1.92– 15.29) and lower mortality (aOR 0.47; 95% CI, 0.25– 0.88) in ABAO patients with eGFR ≥ 90 mL/min/1.73m2. However, RI was not modified the relationship of EVT with functional improvement (common aOR, 3.03; 95% CI, 0.81– 11.11), favourable outcome (aOR 2.10; 95% CI, 0.45– 9.79), and mortality (aOR 0.56; 95% CI, 0.15– 2.06) by eGFR categories. Conclusion: RI is associated with reduced efficacy of EVT and worse functional outcome and higher mortality at 3 months and lower survival probability at 1 year in patients with ABAO. Aim: The quality of life (QoL) of disaster-exposed survivors has always been a topic of concern. The aims of the present study were to explore the role of mindfulness in QoL in a relatively large sample of disaster-exposed survivors and to examine whether social support and posttraumatic growth (PTG) could be mediators. Subject and methods: A total of 806 survivors were surveyed 10 years after the Wenchuan earthquake. A self-administered questionnaire was used to measure mindfulness, QoL, social support, PTG, and sociodemographic characteristics. Linear regressions and mediation analyses were performed to examine the associations between mindfulness, QoL, social support, and PTG. Results: Of the survivors surveyed, 7.8% still reported poor or very poor QoL 10 years later. Correlation analyses indicated QoL was positively correlated with mindfulness, social support, and PTG. The PROCESS macro revealed that social support and PTG played multiple mediating roles in the relationship between mindfulness and QoL. Moreover, the association between mindfulness and QoL was mediated sequentially by social support and PTG. Conclusions: QoL among disaster-exposed survivors can be improved through the enhancement of mindfulness, the provision of social support, and the promotion of PTG. Future clinical mindfulness-focused interventions for disaster-exposed survivors could also include intervening social support and PTG, which may have a synergistic effect on improving QoL. Background: Sarcopenic obesity (SO) in nursing home residents is rarely studied. We aimed to evaluate and compare the prevalence and consistency of different SO diagnostic methods and to investigate which criterion demonstrated a stronger association with instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) disability. Methods: We consecutively recruited older adults aged ≥ 60 years, residing in 15 nursing homes in Zigong City, China. Sarcopenia obesity was defined according to the European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN) and the European Association for the Study of Obesity criteria (SOESPEN), recommending skeletal muscle mass (SMM) adjusted by body weight (SMM/W) to identify low muscle mass. Further, we adapted ESPEN criteria (SOESPEN−M) by employing SMM adjusted by body mass index (SMM/BMI). Results: We included 832 participants (median age 73.0 years, 296 women). The prevalence of SOESPEN and SOESPEN−M was 43.5% and 45.3%, respectively. SOESPEN showed good consistency with SOESPEN−M (Cohen's kappa = 0.759). More than one-third of participants in the normal weight group were diagnosed with SOESPEN or SOESPEN−M. Even within the underweight group, the prevalence of SOESPEN and SOESPEN−M was 8.9% and 22.2%, respectively. Participants with IADL disability had significantly lower SMM/W and SMM/BMI, but higher fat mass percentage of body weight (FM%) than participants without IADL disability. After full adjustment for potential confounders, SOESPEN−M (OR 1.68, 95% CI 1.21 to 2.32), but not SOESPEN (OR 1.28, 95% CI 0.93 to 1.75), remained significantly associated with IADL disability. Conclusions: Both SOESPEN and SOESPEN−M showed a high prevalence among nursing home residents, even among individuals with underweight or normal weight. While SOESPEN had a good consistency with SOESPEN−M, only SOESPEN−M was independently associated with IADL disability. The classification system and the higher level phylogenetic relationships of Pentatomomorpha, the second largest infraorder of Heteroptera (Insecta: Hemiptera), have been debated and remain controversial over decades. In particular, the placement and phylogenetic relationship of Idiostoloidea are not well resolved, which hampers a better understanding of the evolutionary history of Pentatomomorpha. In this study, for the first time, we reported the complete mitochondrial genome for two narrowly distributed families of Idiostoloidea (including Idiostolidae and Henicocoridae), respectively. The length of the mitochondrial genome of Monteithocoris hirsutus and Henicocoris sp. is 16,632 and 16,013 bp, respectively. The content of AT is ranging from 75.15% to 80.48%. The mitogenomic structure of Idiostoloidea is highly conservative and there are no gene arrangements. By using the Bayesian inference, maximum likelihood, and Bayesian site‐heterogeneous mixture model, we inferred the phylogenetic relationships within Pentatomomorpha and estimated their divergence times based on concatenated mitogenomes and nuclear ribosomal genes. Our results support the classification system of six superfamilies within Pentatomomorpha and confirm the monophyletic groups of each superfamily, with the following phylogenetic relationships: (Aradoidea + (Pentatomoidea + (Idiostoloidea + (Coreoidea + (Pyrrhocoroidea + Lygaeoidea))))). Furthermore, estimated divergence times revealed that most pentatomomorphan superfamilies and families diverged during the Late Jurassic to Early Cretaceous, which coincides with the explosive radiation of angiosperms. This paper proposed a new structure of highly-dense micro-jet arrays for hybrid jet-impingement/microchannel heat sinks (∼120 jet per cm2 with jet width of 0.35 mm). Parametric study is performed to investigate the influence of structure and flow parameters on the convective heat transfer of water jet cooling in confined space. The simulation results show that the optimal jet width, jet spacing and impingement distance are around 0.2 mm, 0.2 mm and 0.3 mm, respectively, which can achieve a low thermal resistance as well as a relatively low pressure drop. The analysis of the heat transfer pathways shows that the micro-fin jet structures can extend the impinging heat transfer area and conduct a considerable proportion of heat, which can reach up to 38.9% with the Reynolds number ranging from 797.1 to 5602.2. The heat transfer characteristics in the heat sink will shift from impingement dominated heat transfer to the channel-convection dominated heat transfer as the jet impingement distance increases. A correlation is proposed to predict the average Nusselt number on the stagnation area for the heat sink with different structure parameters, and the deviations of predictions from the numerical results are less than 10%.
