The location of a pseudocyst in the liver is an exceptional event. We report here a case developing right and left intrahepatic pseudocyst following acute biliary pancreatitis. Ultrasound and computed tomography scan revealed a 13-cm right and two 4-cm left intrahepatic collections. Percutaneous puncture permitted us to detect a high level of amylase in the collection, confirming the diagnosis of intrahepatic pseudocyst. Percutaneous drainage resulted in 3000 mL of fluid discharge. The mechanism involved in this patient was rupture of the pancreatic pseudocyst in the retroperitoneal cavity and erosion reaching the right hepatic parenchyma retroperitoneally posterior to the hepatoduodenal ligament and the left hepatic parenchyma via the hepatogastric ligament. Besides, endoscopic sphincterotomy was performed with endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography for cholangitis. After performing endoscopic sphincterotomy, the cysts in the left lobe resolved dramatically. Intrahepatic pseudocyst should be kept in mind when an intrahepatic collection is found in a patients with chronic or recent episode of acute pancreatitis. Computed tomography and high level of amylase in the collection plays an important role for diagnosing this complication. In case of abdominal pain and large intrahepatic pseudocyst, percutaneous drainage can be performed.

Aims: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is associated with cardiovascular disease. Asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) is a novel marker of endothelial dysfunction and atherosclerosis. We aimed to investigate circulating ADMA concentrations in biopsy proven NAFLD and also to search its association with carotid atherosclerosis., Methods: Sixty-seven nondiabetic and normotensive patients with NAFLD and 35 healthy controls were enrolled. Plasma ADMA was measured along with glucose, lipids and insulin levels. Insulin resistance (IR) was assessed by homeostasis model assessment-estimated insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) method. Carotid atherosclerosis was evaluated by carotid artery intima-media thickness (CIMT) using carotid ultrasonography., Results: ADMA levels and CIMT measurements were significantly higher in NAFLD group than the controls. However, the difference regarding the CIMT disappeared when the findings were adjusted according to the metabolic parameters and insulin sensitivity. In contrast, the difference for ADMA remained significant between two groups. No significant association was found between ADMA, CIMT and histopathological findings., Conclusions: Plasma ADMA levels are increased in subjects with NAFLD. This increase seems to be independent from traditional cardiovascular risk factors, insulin resistance and liver histology. Background/aims: Chronic hepatitis C has a high prevalence and leads to development of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Liver fibrosis staging is one of the main factors that influence the decision to indicate therapy for chronic hepatitis C carriers. Several simple laboratory tests, scores and indices have been proposed for the non-invasive prediction of hepatic fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis C. The purpose of this study was to evaluate non-invasive liver fibrosis tests as a predictive factor of fibrosis and non-sustained viral response (relapse/non-responder) in chronic hepatitis C naive patients., Materials and Methods: We performed a retrospective case-control study with utilization of non-invasive liver fibrosis test, platelet count, aspartate aminotransferase/alanine aminotransferase ratio, age-platelet index and aspartate aminotransferase to platelet ratio index, as a predictor of non-sustained viral response in chronic hepatitis C naive patients between July 2008 and August 2010 in İzmir Atatürk Training and Research Hospital., Results: We observed non-invasive liver fibrosis test to be highly effective in predicting non-sustained viral response patients, especially with age-platelet index (Accuracy=73%, OR=6.93, 95% CI, 2.41-19.8). A strong relationship was shown with multivariate analysis between non-sustained viral response and some non-invasive liver fibrosis tests such as viral load (OR=4.51, 95% CI, 1.16 -17.6, p=0.03) and age-platelet index (OR=11.8, 95% CI, 2.25-62.15, p=0.004)., Conclusions: If non-invasive tests could be standardized according to age, gender, race, and body mass index and individualized according to the fibrosis, then a nearly full correlation of non-invasive liver fibrosis test with histologic results could be obtained, stage of fibrosis could be predicted initially, sustained viral response/non-sustained viral response could be estimated, and the need for a repeat biopsy could be eliminated.

Background/aims: The purpose of this study was to research the efficacy and reliability of endoscopic rectal ultrasonography in local staging (T and N stages) of rectal tumors., Materials and Methods: This retrospective study was carried out by the Department of Gastroenterology, İzmir Atatürk Training and Research Hospital, which is tertiary level. Thirty-one patients with adenocarcinoma were included in the study. The patients found operable according to computed tomography underwent preoperative local staging by endoscopic ultrasonography. Radial endoscopic ultrasonography and T and N stages were evaluated., Results: It was observed that endoscopic rectal ultrasonography had 80.6% accuracy, 93.4% sensitivity, and 96.5% specificity in T stage; 70% accuracy, 70% sensitivity, and 86% specificity in the detection of presence of lymph node; and 76% accuracy, 100% sensitivity, and 22% specificity in the detection of the nature of lymph node., Conclusions: In this study, it was observed that endoscopic rectal ultrasonography is an efficient and reliable method in the detection of local lymph node and the depth of invasion of rectal tumors (T staging), although it is not reliable enough to determine the characteristics of lymph nodes.

Objectives: The data regarding circulating levels of markers of platelet activation and endothelial function in people with prediabetes are scant. The aim of the present study was to search blood levels of soluble CD40 ligand (sCD40L), soluble P-selectin (sP-sel) and von Willebrand Factor (vWF) in subjects with prediabetes, along with the effects of the metabolic syndrome (MetS) on these markers., Design and Methods: A total of 77 prediabetic individuals and 81 age, sex and body mass index matched healthy subjects with normal glucose tolerance (NGT) were prospectively analyzed. Anthropometric parameters, fasting plasma glucose, blood d lipid profiles and insulin resistance indexes were determined. Plasma sCD40L, sP-sel and vWF levels were measured by ELISA., Results: sCD40L, sP-sel and vWF levels in the prediabetic group were similar to those in the controls. However, prediabetic subjects with the MetS had significantly higher level of sCD40L compared to those without MetS. Moreover, sCD40L level correlated significantly with waist circumference, systolic blood pressure and HDL-cholesterol level in the patient group., Conclusion: These data imply that MetS may contribute, at least in part, to the mechanism of platelet activation and endothelial dysfunction in people with prediabetes., (Crown Copyright © 2011. Background/aims: We aimed to compare the value of endoscopic ultrasonography and magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography in identifying the patients with mild-moderate acute biliary pancreatitis who require endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography., Material and Methods: The study was prospectively conducted in a tertiary hospital between June 2006 and October 2009. Ninety-five patients without urgent endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography requirement and with mild-moderate acute biliary pancreatitis were included in the study. Patients whose amylase, C-reactive protein, and bilirubin levels had decreased more than 50% on the fifth day compared to admission levels were randomized to magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography or endoscopic ultrasonography, and the common bile duct was evaluated. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography was performed in patients with stone detected with endoscopic ultrasonography or magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography. With regard to the presence of common bile duct stone in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography performances were classified as therapeutic or diagnostic., Results: Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography was performed in 16 of the 48 patients (33.3%) in the endoscopic ultrasonography group and in 18 of the 47 patients (38%) in the magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography group. Therapeutic endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography was performed in 14/16 patients (87%) in the endoscopic ultrasonography group and in 16/18 patients (88%) in the magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography group. The ratio of total number of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatographis was not significantly lower in the endoscopic ultrasonography (16/48) than in the magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (18/47) group, and the ratio of therapeutic endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatographis (14/16) was not higher in the endoscopic ultrasonography group than in the magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography group (16/18)., Conclusions: The necessity of therapeutic endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography was determined with similar efficacy by endoscopic ultrasonography and magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography in mild-moderate acute biliary pancreatitis.

Background: This research was conducted to analyze the impact of visiting patients in the intensive care unit on the vital signs of the patients., Methods: This descriptive study was conducted at the emergency surgical intensive care unit of a university hospital in Istanbul. The sample consisted of 43 patients aged 18 and above, who stayed at the unit for more than 24 hours. Data collection included the demographic features of the patients as well as the information and evaluation form including the vital signs of patients before, during and after visits. Data were measured before, during and after visits., Results: 39.5% (n=17) of the patients were female and 60.5% (n=26) were male. Values before and after visits, respectively, were as follows: Mean fever 36.7±0.81 and 36.8±.94; pulse 97.3±26.4 and 98.4±26.1; mean respiration 23.76±4.55 and 24.30±4.53; systolic pressure 113.4±25.86 and 120.4±21.15; and diastolic pressure 64.81±8 and 67.30±3., Conclusion: This study, carried out as a pilot study, found that visiting patients in intensive care units affects the patients; however, this effect does not cause a serious physiological change in the vital signs of the patient.

Background/aims: Anxiety is a common problem in patients undergoing invasive medical procedures. Colonoscopy is a demanding procedure and requires a patient's good cooperation for successful results. We aimed to examine the effects of adding an information video to our usual preprocedural information., Materials and Methods: A total of 227 patients were assessed in this study (120 male, 107 female). The patients were divided into two groups as video (n=124) or verbal (n=103). When the patients in the polyclinic with indications for colonoscopy were selected, a text about the procedure and related complications was given to them. A colonoscopy appointment was scheduled for the patients 3-4 weeks following the procedure. On the appointment day, the patients selected randomly in groups of 10 as either verbal or video sections were taken into the communication room 1-5 hours before the procedure. The patients' anxiety was measured afterwards using the Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory questionnaire. In addition, patients answered individual questions. After the colonoscopy, the patients were asked if they would undergo colonoscopy again for health reasons and whether the procedure was similar to, better, or worse than they had expected (following the information sessions)., Results: It was noted in univariate and multiple logistic regression analyses that low State-Trait Anxiety Inventory-State levels (p≤0.001 and p=0.016, respectively) and communication by video (p<0.001, p=0.007, respectively) had a significant impact on communication success., Conclusions: An information video shown to patients preparing for colonoscopy had an impact on the success of the procedure and on anxiety.

To evaluate the efficacy of a thermo-sensitive punctum plug, (SmartPlug™) in Primary Sjogren's Syndrome (pSS) patients with dry eyes, whose symptoms persist despite preservative-free artificial tear treatment. In this study, 22 Primary Sjögren's Syndrome (pSS), as defined by American-European Consensus Group Classification Criteria. All patients being followed up by Ege University Departments of Rheumatology and Ophthalmology. The patients had positive Schirmer test results (<5 mm without anesthesia). SmartPlug™ (Medennium, Irvine, California, USA) was inserted into the inferior lacrimal canaliculi of both eyes. Visual acuity measurements, Schirmer I test measurements, lissamine green staining scores, and tear-film breakup times (BUT) were noted before plug insertion and at the 1st, 6th, and 12th months following the procedure. Minimum follow-up period was 6 months for 19 patients and 12 months for 16 patients. Significant improvements were seen in the Schirmer I test scores (before insertion: 1.98 ± 2.67; 1st month: 5.68 ± 6.69; 6th month: 5.35 ± 5.38; 12th month 6.43 ± 5.14 P = 0.006), tear-film BUT in seconds (before insertion: 4.64 ± 3.7; 1st month: 5.80 ± 2.36; 6th month: 7.53 ± 2.92; 12th month 7.50 ± 2.52, P < 0.0001), respectively. Thermodynamic punctum plug insertion only in inferior canaliculus is a simple, effective, and comfortable option for treatment of severe aqueous tear deficiency that cannot be controlled using preservative-free tears.

Objective: Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is closely associated with components of metabolic syndrome. Vaspin is a novel adipocytokine that may link obesity, insulin resistance (IR), and type 2 diabetes mellitus. We aimed to investigate circulating vaspin levels in subjects with NASH and also to search for the association of vaspin with IR, adiponectin, and histological findings., Material and Methods: A total of 50 male patients with NASH and 30 healthy male controls were enrolled. Vaspin and adiponectin were measured with ELISA method. Insulin sensitivity determined by homeostasis model assessment (HOMA-IR) index., Results: Plasma vaspin levels were higher and adiponectin levels were lower in NASH group compared with controls (p < 0.01 and p < 0.001, respectively). However, in multivariate analysis adjusted for glucose and lipid parameters, and HOMA-IR indexes, the difference in vaspin concentrations was disappeared. Nonetheless, the difference regarding the adiponectin levels remained significant between groups (p = 0.03). Vaspin was negatively correlated with low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (r = -0.32, p = 0.03) in subjects with NASH., Conclusions: This study indicates that circulating vaspin levels are not altered in male subjects with NASH. These results suggest that in the absence of metabolic risk factors, vaspin per se may not be involved in the pathogenesis of NASH.

Background/aims: To determine the effect of stone within the common bile duct, on the severity of acute biliary pancreatitis., Material and Methods: This is a prospective and cross sectional study which was conducted at a tertiary care hospital including 103 patients. Serum biochemical values and white blood cell counts at the first 12th and 72nd hours of presentation were evaluated. The patients were grouped according to the presence or absence of common bile duct stones which were diagnosed by endoscopic ultrasonography and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. Besides, the patients were classified as mild and severe acute pancreatitis according to the data provided by computed tomography (Balthazar scoring) and clinical assessment and blood samples., Results: Among the 103 patients with acute biliary patients, radial endoscopic ultrasonography and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography revealed stones and/or sludge within the common bile duct or ampulla in 41 (39.8%) patients. There was not any persistent common bile duct stone in 62 (60.2%) patients. Severe pancreatitis developed in 9 (22%) of 41 patients who were determined to have stones by endoscopic ultrasonography and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, and in 13 (21%) of 62 patients who were not. There was no difference in the incidence of progressing to severe acute biliary patients between patients with and without common bile duct stones (p=0.45)., Conclusion: Presence of common bile duct stones do not correlate with the severity of acute biliary pancreatitis.

We aimed to establish the relationship between serum vitamin D levels and disease activity and health status in rheumatoid arthritis. Sixty-five patients with RA fulfilling ACR criteria for the classification of rheumatoid arthritis and forty healthy controls were included in this study. Disease activity was assessed according to the Disease Activity Score including 28 joint counts. C-reactive protein (CRP, mg/dl) was determined by the nephelometric method. Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR, mm/h) was determined by the Westergren method. Rheumatoid factor (RF, IU/ml) was also determined by the nephelometric method, and RF > 20 IU/ml was defined as positive. 25-OH Vitamin D EIA Kit was used to measure serum 25-OH Vitamin D levels. We found that the mean of the 25-OH D vitamin levels of the patients with RA was not different than that of controls (P = 0.936). We divided patients with RA into three groups according to DAS28 as low activity group (group 1, n = 25), moderate activity group (group 2, n = 25), and high activity group (group 3, n = 15). 25-OH vitamin D levels of the patients in the high activity group (group 3) were found to be the lowest (P < 0.001), and the patients with moderate disease activity had lower levels than those in the mild group (P = 0.033). Serum 25-OH vitamin D levels were significantly negatively correlated with DAS28, CRP, and HAQ (respectively, r = -0.431, P = 0.000, r = -0.276, P = 0.026, and r = -0.267, P = 0.031). Serum vitamin D levels in patients with RA were similar those in the healthy controls, while it significantly decreases in accordance with the disease activity and decreasing functional capacity.

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate hemodynamic and anatomic alterations of the splanchnic venous system and the efficiency and safety of color Doppler radial endosonography in the assessment of cirrhotic patients by comparing Child A cirrhotic patients without portal hypertension findings versus a non-cirrhotic group., Methods: The study was carried out between January 2009 and February 2010; the study population was 38 cirrhotic patients without portal hypertension and 140 control patients., Results: Hepatopedal flow was monophasic in all the control patients; the flow pattern was chaotic and irregular in 8% of the cirrhotic patients; in the cirrhotic patients the portal vein diameter was increased and the flow velocity reduced; no differences in flow volume were observed between the two groups. Splenic vein diameter and flow velocity were normal. In the majority of the Child A cirrhotic patients without portal hypertension, no changes were seen in portal vein diameter or flow volume; in some patients no significant increase portal vein diameter was observed and showed the flow volumes were unchanged., Conclusion: Radial Doppler endosonography may be efficient and safe for assessing the splanchnic system.

Background/aims: The diagnostic value of endoscopic ultrasound in common bile duct stones is high. In this investigation, we evaluated the feasibility of endoscopic ultrasound preceding endoscopic retrograde cholangiography in the same session and the potential benefits in increasing the therapeutic endoscopic retrograde cholangiography ratio in the treatment of choledocholithiasis., Methods: One hundred and sixty-five consecutive patients who presented with elevated ALP and bilirubin levels and were referred for endoscopic retrograde cholangiography of biliary stones diagnosed with magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography were evaluated. During the evaluation period (mean: 2 weeks), 50 patients with reductions in ALP and bilirubin by at least half relative to baseline values were enrolled into the study. Endoscopic ultrasound was performed prior to endoscopic retrograde cholangiography. Time spent to perform endoscopic ultrasound was noted. For the presence of common bile duct stone, we used retrograde cholangiography findings as the standard of reference., Results: Median endoscopic ultrasound time was 10.66 minutes (SD±1.52). Bile duct stones were revealed with retrograde cholangiography in 34 patients (68%). Sensitivity, specificity (with 95% confidence intervals [CIs]), positive predictive value and negative predictive value of endoscopic ultrasound were calculated. In identifying common bile duct stones on endoscopic ultrasound, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value were statistically determined as 91.2% (95% CI), 88.3% (95% CI), 91%, and 81.3%, respectively., Conclusions: Our results indicate that in the presence of local experience and availability of endoscopic ultrasound, it is feasible to perform endoscopic ultrasound prior to endoscopic retrograde cholangiography. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value for detecting choledocholithiasis in suspected cases are high. Endoscopic ultrasound preceding endoscopic retrograde cholangiography in the same session has the potential to decrease diagnostic endoscopic retrograde cholangiography and increase therapeutic endoscopic retrograde cholangiography. Need to perform magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography in the presence of easily accessible endoscopic ultrasound should be questioned.

Objectives: In this study, we evaluated the continuous and state anxiety levels of mothers with children with language delay., Methods: The study group consisted of the mothers of 18 children with language delay. The control group consisted of the mothers of 29 healthy children without language delay. To gain data about mothers, a personal information form and Spielberger's State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) form were applied to determine continuous and state-trait anxiety levels., Results: State anxiety levels in the study group were significantly higher (by Student t-test) than that of the control group. For continuous anxiety level, no statistically significant difference was determined between two groups. In the study group, higher education levels of mothers and their husbands were associated with lower levels of both continuous and state anxiety., Conclusion: In the majority of the group of mothers with language delayed children and even mothers of children with normal language development, there were high levels concern. Mothers' concerns and anxiety levels may decrease with increasing levels of their education levels. We recommend providing detailed information regarding language development to the families at all stages of the childs' training programme.

Background/aims: Metabolic products (TNFalpha, adiponectin, resistin, etc.), which are effective in insulin sensitivity and in the regulation of inflammation, play an important role in the development of metabolic disorders and fatty liver disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of HCV infection alone on plasma adiponectin levels and insulin sensitivity when metabolic factors are minimized and to determine whether chronic HCV infection causes hepatosteatosis through its effect on these factors., Methods: This study was carried out between 2006-2007, at the Gastroenterology Clinic of Izmir Atatürk Training and Research Hospital, in 30 non-diabetic patients with chronic HCV infection and 30 healthy subjects as controls. BMI (<26 kg/m2), fasting plasma glucose level, and ultrasonography were normal in both groups. In the patient group, HCV RNA was > or =1.90 x 10(3) IU/ml, ALT and AST were two times normal, and histological fibrosis scores were 1-2 in liver biopsy. Serum adiponectin levels and HOMA-IR were compared., Results: Fasting blood glucose levels, body mass index and HOMA-IR of the two groups were similar and normal. The mean ALT value was significantly higher in the patient group [61.8 U/L vs 28.17 U/L (p<0.05)]. The mean viral load was determined as 5.6 x 10(5) IU/ml in the chronic HCV patient group. The mean plasma adiponectin concentrations were 71.07 microg/ml in chronic HCV patients and 82.07 microg/ml in the control group, and the difference was statistically insignificant (p>0.05)., Conclusions: In the absence of metabolic disorders such as obesity, diabetes mellitus and hepatosteatosis, chronic HCV infection does not affect insulin sensitivity or adiponectin concentration.

Background: Among intraepidermal malignancies of epithelial origin, Bowen's disease, bowenoid actinic keratosis (BAK), intraepidermal malignant eccrine poroma (MEP), and Paget's disease may pose diagnostic difficulties., Methods: Histologic features and immunohistochemical profiles of 24 cases of Bowen's disease, 21 cases of BAK, 18 cases of intraepidermal MEP, and 11 cases of Paget's disease were analyzed., Results: Using multivariate logistic regression test, multinuclear giant cells and solar degeneration were found to be the only histologic parameters of diagnostic help. On the other hand, a widespread positive reaction for CK 5/8, CK 7, CK 19, and negative reaction for CK 10, was a helpful feature in the differentiation of Paget's disease from Bowen's disease and BAK. The widespread and strong expression of CK 10 was seen in almost all cases of Bowen's disease in contrast to BAK. The widespread expression of CK 5/8 and CK 7, and negative reaction for CK 10, was in favor of Paget's disease, compared to intraepidermal MEP. On the other hand, widespread expression of CK 19 was a common finding in intraepidermal MEP, in contrast to Bowen's disease., Conclusion: An immunohistochemical panel may provide significant hints on the differentiation of common intraepidermal malignancies, especially in problematic cases.

The present research was conducted descriptively to define the approaches of nurses to the nature of pain, its assessment, and management. The research was carried out in October 2001 in Antalya with a scope of 227 nurses attending to the Second National Clinician Nurses' Congress. Initial aim was to include all 286 nurses attending the congress, however, because 59 nurses refused to participate, the number of the participants finalized as 227. A data gathering form of 20 questions was used. Results were presented in percentages. At the end of the research, though the knowledge the nurses had on the nature of pain was satisfactory, their attitudes related with pain assessment and management were noted to be below expectations. These results point out a void in the nurses' knowledge pertaining to pain management. As a result, we consider imperative that the nurses should acknowledge the significance of pain and should improve their professional attitudes and knowledge in order to gain control over pain through a multidisciplinary approach and to prove the crucial and inevitable role of nurses in such a team.

The purpose of the study was to synthesize and evaluate the antimicrobial effects of two monophosphazenes, N-diphenylphosphoryl-P-triphenylmonophosphazene-II and N-di(o-tolyl)phosphoryl-P-tri(o-tolyl)monophosphazene-III on bacterial and yeast strains. The biological effects of these molecules were compared with a potential antioxidant vitamin E. According to results, the triphenyl monophosphazene-II has antimicrobial effect on all the bacterial and yeast cells, but tri(o-tolyl)monophosphazene-III has only antimicrobial effect on some bacterial cells. When the concentration of triphenyl monophosphazene-II was raised, it was observed that inhibition zone increased on the bacterial growth media. The biological effects of these molecules were compared to vitamin E in the Saccharomyces cerevisiae culture media. In 200 microg administered culture media, the cell density decreased in vitamin E, triphenyl monophosphazene-II and tri(o-tolyl)monophosphazene-III groups at the end of 24 and 48 h incubation times (p<0.001,p<0.05). While the cell densities in vitamin E and tri(o-tolyl)monophosphazene-II groups decreased partly at the end of 72 h incubation time (p<0.05), its level in triphenyl monophosphazene-II group increased (p<0.01) at the same incubation time. In 1,000 microg administered culture media, cell density was not found to differ between vitamin E and control groups at the end of 24h incubation time, but it was found that the cell densities in triphenyl monophosphazene and tri(o-tolyl)monophosphazene-III groups decreased at the same incubation time (p<0.001). The cell densities in tri(o-tolyl)monophosphazene-III group and triphenyl monophosphazene-II decreased at the end of 48 h incubation time (respectively, p<0.05,p<0.001). In 200 microg administered cell pellets, while the lipid level was not found to differ between control and vitamin E, the lipid level decreased in triphenyl monophosphazene-II and tri(o-tolyl)monophospazene-III groups (respectively, p<0.001,p<0.01). In 1,000 microg administered cell pellets, it was found that the lipid level decreased in vitamin E, triphenyl monophosphazene-II and tri(o-tolyl)monophosphazene-III groups (p<0.001,p<0.01).
