The increasing challenges posed by climate change demand efficient strategies to mitigate soil degradation. Valorization of low-grade residual forestry biomass (acacia) into biochar could be used as a soil amendment strategy. A short-term incubation assay was conducted in forest soil, where the effects of biochar produced at two pyrolysis temperatures (450 °C and 550 °C) with varying particle sizes (S < 0.5 mm, M = [0.5; 3.15], L > 3.15 mm) and application rates (0, 3, 6 and 10% (w/w)) were assessed. Organic matter was analyzed through the water-soluble carbon, hot-water-extractable carbon, and microbial biomass. Microbial activity was evaluated by measuring the soil respiration and metabolic quotient. Biochar application increased the water-soluble carbon by 21 to 143% and the hot-water-extractable carbon by 27 to 137%, while decreasing the microbial biomass to 86%. The soil respiration and metabolic quotient increased in all the conditions, indicating an increase in microbial activity but low efficiency in carbon mineralization. This suggests the inefficient acclimatization of the microorganisms to biochar, lowering their ability to co-metabolize the recalcitrant carbon. Additionally, the potential adsorption of beneficial nutrients onto the biochar could have inhibited their release into the soil, hindering microbial growth. Increased biochar application rates resulted in adverse effects on microbial communities, indicating possible inhibitory effects on the soil biota.

Water mint (Mentha aquatica) is used in many formulations worldwide as a functional food and natural remedy to treat gastrointestinal disorders, lung diseases, and certain mental disorders such as epilepsy and depression. This study assessed the bioactivity of its infusion extract (INF) and hydroethanolic extract (HE) to highlight its health benefits. These extracts were analyzed for their chemical composition by HPLC-DAD-ESI-MSn, their antioxidant and antidiabetic properties, and their capacities to protect human erythrocytes against induced hemoglobin oxidation and lipid peroxidation. The effect on normal human dermal fibroblast (NHDF) cells and on the N27 rat dopaminergic neuron cell line was also assessed. The chromatographic analysis identified 57 compounds belonging to hydroxycinnamic acids, flavanones, flavone, and isoflavonoids. In respect to the biological potential, the Mentha aquatica extracts revealed a notable capacity for 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl, nitric oxide, and superoxide radicals, as well as for the inhibition of α-glucosidase action and the protection of human erythrocytes against oxidative damage. Quantification revealed noteworthy phenolic content in both extracts. Additionally, the extracts demonstrated less cytotoxic effects regarding the NHDF and N27 cell lines. Overall, Mentha aquatica presents promising antioxidant activity and a spectrum of potential biological activities, underscoring its significance as a novel antioxidant candidate for applications in animal nutrition, human medicine, and natural product research in the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a heterogeneous condition with airflow limitation and obstructive characteristics of respiratory function. In addition, musculoskeletal dysfunction and negative changes in body composition, among other comorbidities associated with this disease, result in a low quality of life. Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR), which includes physical exercise, can positively contribute to improving the clinical conditions in individuals with COPD. Objective: This systematic review aims to summarize the scientific evidence on the impact of physical exercise on body composition and functionality in individuals with COPD. Methods: Through Boolean searches, which were carried out in the PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science databases, 989 studies were identified. Among these studies, six were selected based on the eligibility criteria. Results: These studies presented a level of evidence II according to National Health and Medical Research Council criteria, with a predominance of regular methodological quality of regular according to the PEDro scale. Four studies presented a high risk of bias, and two presented a low risk of bias according to the criteria of the RoB instrument. The isolated assessment of each domain (2.0 Cochrane) presented a prevalence of 57% with a low risk of bias, followed by 23% with high risk and 20% with an uncertain risk of bias. According to the data regarding outcomes of different studies, an improvement in functional capacity through physical exercise by individuals with COPD was observed. Simultaneously there were reports regarding body composition demonstrating no significant improvement in fat-free mass and fat mass. Conclusions: Improvements in the body composition and functionality in individuals with COPD can promote a better quality of life, favoring the management of this population. This systematic review presents evidence of the potential benefit of improving the functionality of individuals with COPD. Other aspects of the health of this population were also improved, such as quality of life. However, the results related to body composition are inconclusive regarding a decrease in fat mass and an increase in fat-free mass. Therefore, studies of higher quality should be developed to evaluate the effects of physical exercise on the body composition of individuals with COPD.

Background: This experiment evaluated whether the combination of essential oils (thyme, rosemary, orange) with extracts of Cinnamomum and Quillaja saponaria (enriched with tocopherols) in steers’ diet has positive effects on the health, digestibility, growth, oxidative stress, and fatty acid profile of meat. Methods: The experiment included 24 Holstein steers, divided into two groups, randomly divided (treated = phytogenic mixture (n = 12); control = monensin (n = 12)), undergoing a growth phase of 120 days and 90 days of finishing in individual pens, with a monthly collection of blood, rumen fluid, feces, and feed. Results: In the finishing phase (days 150 to 210), there was a tendency (p = 0.07) toward more significant average daily weight gain when cattle consumed a phytogenic mixture than monensin. The use of the phytogenic product showed greater feed efficiency in the period from 150 to 240 days (p < 0.05), with higher levels of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), without differences in the composition of these SCFAs between the control and treated groups, with a reduction in apparent digestibility in the treated group. In blood parameters, the treated group showed higher erythrocyte counts (p < 0.05) without changes in leukocytes, lymphocytes, granulocytes, monocytes, and platelets. The phytogenic treatment demonstrated higher total protein and globulin levels, with increased glucose levels on days 30 and 210 (p < 0.05). Ceruloplasmin and haptoglobin levels increased in the treated group without changes in ferritin, transferrin, C-reactive protein, IgA, and heavy-chain immunoglobulins (p < 0.05). A reduction in oxidative stress was observed using the phytogenic agent, with a marked decrease in the levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and carbonyl proteins, with a tendency to increase glutathione S-transferase (p < 0.05). In meat, the phytogenic reduced saturated fatty acids with increased polyunsaturated fatty acids and increased the omega 6/omega 3 ratio. Lower levels of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances and ROS were detected in the meat combined with a higher concentration of total thiols in the treated group than in the control group. Conclusions: The use of the phytogenic in steers’ diets has shown to be a viable candidate for replacing monensin, presenting equal or superior performance results with systemic modulating effects on oxidative stress, meat quality, and serum and biochemical parameters that contribute to more substantial health and efficiency.

Biofilms are of great concern for the meat industry because, despite the implementation of control plans, they remain important hotspots of contamination by foodborne pathogens, highlighting the need to better understand the ecology of these microecosystems. The objective of this paper was to critically survey the recent scientific literature on microbial biofilms of importance for meat safety and quality, also pointing out the most promising methods to combat them. For this, the databases PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, Web of Science, and Google Scholar were surveyed in a 10-year time frame (but preferably papers less than 5 years old) using selected keywords relevant for the microbiology of meats, especially considering bacteria that are tolerant to cleaning and sanitization processes. The literature findings showed that massive DNA sequencing has deeply impacted the knowledge on the species that co-habit biofilms with important foodborne pathogens (Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella, pathogenic Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus). It is likely that recalcitrant commensal and/or spoilage microbiota somehow protect the more fastidious organisms from harsh conditions, in addition to harboring antimicrobial resistance genes. Among the members of background microbiota, Pseudomonas, Acinetobacter, and Enterobacteriales have been commonly found on food contact and non-food contact surfaces in meat processing plants, in addition to less common genera, such as Psychrobacter, Enhydrobacter, Brevundimonas, and Rothia, among others. It has been hypothesized that these rare taxa may represent a primary layer in microbial biofilms, offering better conditions for the adhesion of otherwise poor biofilm formers, especially considering their tolerance to cold conditions and sanitizers. Taking into consideration these findings, it is not only important to target the foodborne pathogens per se in cleaning and disinfection plans but the use of multiple hurdles is also recommended to dismantle the recalcitrant structures of biofilms. In this sense, the last part of this manuscript presents an updated overview of the antibiofilm methods available, with an emphasis on eco-friendly approaches.

Sporotrichosis is a subcutaneous mycosis of global distribution, capable of affecting both humans and animals, and caused by species of the genus Sporothrix spp. This study aimed to evaluate the genetic diversity and mating type distribution of clinical isolates of human sporotrichosis in Paraíba, Brazil, to better understand the population structure, epidemiology, and diversification of this pathogen, as well as to explore possible transmission routes. Methods: A total of 36 clinical isolates were morphologically identified, and clinical and demographic data were collected. Fungal DNA extraction was then performed, followed by species-specific PCR using markers targeting the calmodulin gene. The mating type idiomorph of the species was identified by PCR using primers targeting the MAT1-1 and MAT1-2 loci. Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism (AFLP) was used to evaluate the genetic variability of Sporothrix spp. Results: The distribution of the disease identified that all cases occurred in João Pessoa and adjacent cities. From the 36 isolates, the majority (75%) being affected females, a prevalent occurrence of the lymphocutaneous form, and 98% zoonotic transmission were confirmed. Micro- and macromorphological structures were similar to each other, confirming Sporothrix spp. All isolates were confirmed as S. brasiliensis and the presence of a single sexual idiomorph, MAT1-2, was detected. The AFLP results indicate the possibility of the circulation of one or two genetic groups in João Pessoa and the metropolitan region. Conclusions: To our knowledge, this is the first time isolates in the Paraíba state are genetically characterised, all identified as Sporothrix brasiliensis. It is likely that this species in Paraiba originated from Rio de Janeiro, as all they possess the MAT1-2 idiomorph, indicating low intergenotypic variation.

Viral infections are one of the most important causes of morbidity and mortality among patients undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Immunosuppression may lead to the reactivation of latent viruses or the acquisition of new infections, resulting in severe clinical outcomes. The early detection of viral reactivations is crucial for effective patient management and post-transplant care. In this study, we employed next-generation metagenomics to assess changes in viral abundance and detect clinically significant viruses in allogeneic HSCT patients. A total of 20 patients from the Transplant Unit of the University Hospital of the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto, University of São Paulo were included, with plasma samples collected at three time points: D + 0 (pre-transplantation), D + 30 (30 days post-transplantation), and D + 100 (~100 days post-transplantation). A higher presence of clinically relevant viruses, such as the cytomegalovirus (CMV), the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and adenoviruses, were predominantly detected at D + 30. The diversity of commensal viruses, primarily anelloviruses, increased gradually, with the highest abundance and variability detected at D + 100. Viruses with clinical importance for HSCT, including CMV, adenovirus and EBV, were confirmed and characterized at the molecular level, showing generally high cycle threshold values. Our findings demonstrate a rise in anellovirus abundance following allogeneic HSCT, with the highest levels observed at D + 100. Notably, D + 30 was identified as a critical time point for the reactivation of clinically significant viruses. This study underscores the potential of metagenomics in the identification of clinically relevant viruses and highlights the importance of monitoring latent viruses in immunocompromised populations, including allogeneic HSCT patients.

Investment in research in protected areas provides subsidies for improving the management and conservation of these environments, such as creating new conservation units and promoting sustainable tourism. This paper aimed to analyse the evolution of published studies on federally protected areas in Brazil through a systematic review of 2,282 papers in the Scopus database from 2011 to 2022. There was a growing increase in the number of articles till an abrupt decrease in 2022. The VosViewer software identified niches of the most used keywords linked to conservation, Atlantic Forest, and protected areas. The study highlights the challenges faced when performing research activities in federal protected areas in Brazil, such as access to remote areas and climate instability. The COVID-19 pandemic impacted research, together with the dismantling of scientific institutions by the Brazilian government compromised scientific progress, reflected in a decline of 54% in publications. International collaboration was emphasized, highlighting the importance of disseminating scientific knowledge for environmental preservation and carefully selecting keywords to promote the accessibility and visibility of articles.

The petrochemical industry heavily relies on steam reforming furnaces for large-scale hydrogen production. Centrifugally cast HP stainless-steel tubes constitute the majority of components in these furnaces, enduring temperatures ranging from 600 to 1000 ºC for extended periods. These tubes manifest distinct aging states, characterized by specific microstructural markers linked to the exposed wall temperature. Given their significant cost and importance, monitoring the service life of these tubes is crucial. The current aging state is particularly relevant due to the correlation between creep damage and advanced aging stages. Hence, this study aims to assist in assessing the remaining life of HP stainless-steel tubes by employing a portable Eddy Current Testing (ECT) inspection system, coupled with real-time Support Vector Machine (SVM) classification of aging states. Two 12.6-meter-long tubes, aged for 160,000 hours, underwent inspection using the portable ECT inspection system to evaluate the progression of aging states along their height, considering the expected vertical temperature gradient. Results underscore the efficacy of the SVM classification in identifying the various aging states present along the studied tubes, highlighting promising in situ applications.

O artigo analisa os serviços empresariais intensivos em conhecimento (KIBS, sigla em inglês) em São Paulo no período 2010/2019. O objetivo é destacar suas características e evidenciar seu padrão de distribuição espacial para avaliar se há concentração em ambientes metropolitanos, nos quais é mais provável a incidência de economias de aglomeração. São utilizados dados da Relação Anual de Informações Sociais (RAIS) e aplicados métodos de análise estatística multivariada (análise de componentes principais e análise de agrupamentos), para verificar elementos explicativos da aglomeração dessas atividades. Os resultados evidenciam a concentração de T-KIBS na Região Metropolitana de São Paulo em comparação às demais regiões, o que evidencia a dependência dessas atividades de componentes concentrados em grandes cidades, como ampla oferta de mão de obra qualificada e economias de aglomeração.

BackgroundOur current understanding of how computerized brain training drives cognitive and functional benefits remains incomplete. This paper describes the protocol for Improving Neurological Health in Aging via Neuroplasticity-based Computerized Exercise (INHANCE), a randomized controlled trial in healthy older adults designed to evaluate whether brain training improves cholinergic signaling. ObjectiveINHANCE evaluates whether 2 computerized training programs alter acetylcholine binding using the vesicular acetylcholine transporter ligand [18F] fluoroethoxybenzovesamicol ([18F] FEOBV) and positron emission tomography (PET). MethodsIn this phase IIb, prospective, double-blind, parallel-arm, active-controlled randomized trial, a minimum of 92 community-dwelling healthy adults aged 65 years and older are randomly assigned to a brain training program designed using the principles of neuroplasticity (BrainHQ by Posit Science) or to an active control program of computer games designed for entertainment (eg, Solitaire). Both programs consist of 30-minute sessions, 7 times per week for 10 weeks (35 total hours), completed remotely at home using either loaned or personal devices. The primary outcome is the change in FEOBV binding in the anterior cingulate cortex, assessed at baseline and posttest. Exploratory cognitive and behavioral outcomes sensitive to acetylcholine are evaluated before, immediately after, and 3 months following the intervention to assess the maintenance of observed effects. ResultsThe trial was funded in September 2019. The study received approval from the Western Institutional Review Board in October 2020 with Research Ethics Board of McGill University Health Centre and Health Canada approvals in June 2021. The trial is currently ongoing. The first participant was enrolled in July 2021, enrollment closed when 93 participants were randomized in December 2023, and the trial will conclude in June 2024. The study team will be unblinded to conduct analyses after the final participant exits the study. We expect to publish the results in the fourth quarter of 2024. ConclusionsThere remains a critical need to identify effective and scalable nonpharmaceutical interventions to enhance cognition in older adults. This trial contributes to our understanding of brain training by providing a potential neurochemical explanation of cognitive benefit. Chatbots can use fast, and sometimes specialized interactions in different situations, making them an option in the choice of tools to collect information. In the psychological assessment of children and adolescents, they can act as complementary sources, and help to describe, qualify and measure psychological and behavioral characteristics, in its various forms of expression, in different contexts. This study aimed to present Psico Bot, a chatbot developed to assess symptoms of anxiety and depression in children and adolescents. Consisting of 20 questions that map physical and psychological symptoms of the selected constructs, it was developed through the natural language Dialogflow for use in the Google Assistant conversation platform. The design of Psico Bot is based on a neutral representation, with no determined gender or age, facilitating quick identification by the user. Based on the use of multimethod evaluations, the Psico Bot can offer relevant information about the mental health of children and adolescents using language and devices that are easy to understand and handle by this population. For the evaluator, the tool offers quick response and specific information about each construct, enabling more effective interventions in elements of greatest need.

IntroductionThe literature lacks a concise neurocognitive test for assessing primary cognitive domains in neuro-oncological patients. This study aims to describe and assess the feasibility of the Ohy-Maldaun Fast Track Cognitive Test (OMFTCT), used to pre- and post-operatively evaluate patients undergoing brain tumor surgery in language eloquent areas. The cognitive diagnosis was used to safely guide intraoperative language assessment.MethodsThis is a prospective longitudinal observational clinical study conducted on a cohort of 50 glioma patients eligible for awake craniotomies. The proposed protocol assesses multiple cognitive domains, including language, short-term verbal and visual memories, working memory, praxis, executive functions, and calculation ability. The protocol comprises 10 different subtests, with a maximum score of 50 points, and was applied at three time points: preoperative, immediately postoperative period, and 30 days after surgery.ResultsAmong the initial 50 patients enrolled, 36 underwent assessment at all three designated time points. The mean age of the patients was 45.3 years, and they presented an average of 15 years of education. The predominant tumor types included Glioblastoma, IDH-wt (44.1%), and diffuse astrocytoma, IDH-mutant (41.2%). The tumors were located in the left temporal lobe (27.8%), followed by the left frontal lobe (25%). The full test had an average application time of 23 min.ConclusionOMFTCT provided pre- and postoperative assessments of different cognitive domains, enabling more accurate planning of intraoperative language testing. Additionally, recognition of post-operative cognitive impairments played a crucial role in optimizing patient care.

The wild boar, an impactful invasive species in Brazil, is subject to population control activities, which often include the use of hunting dogs. Hunters commonly consume wild boar meat, which is also used to feed their dogs, posing a risk of Toxoplasma gondii infection for humans and both T. gondii and Neospora caninum for dogs. The study aimed to investigate the prevalence of infection in wild boars (n = 127) and hunting dogs (n = 73) from São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, and Paraná states. We employed histopathological, serological (indirect fluorescent antibody test), and molecular techniques (endpoint polymerase chain reaction). Histopathology slides of wild boar tissue (central nervous system, heart, skeletal muscle, liver, spleen, kidney, gastrointestinal tract, pancreas, lymph nodes, and thyroid) sections revealed no T. gondii or N. caninum cysts (0/47). Antibodies anti-T. gondii were detected in 35/108 (32.4%) and anti-N. caninum in 45/108 (41.7%) wild boars. Only 2/18 (11.1%) wild boar tissue homogenate samples tested positive for T. gondii on endpoint PCR. Hunting dogs showed antibodies against T. gondii in 62/73 (85%) and against N. caninum in 31/73 (42%). The presence of antibodies against T. gondii and N. caninum in wild boars and hunting dogs, along with T. gondii DNA detection in wild boars, indicates the circulation of these parasites. Educating hunters on preventing these foodborne diseases, including zoonotic risks, is crucial.

RESUMO Um dos gêneros mais importantes de Apocynaceae, Aspidosperma apresenta desafios na delimitação de espécies devido à sobreposição de caracteres morfológicos e o grande número de sinonímias. Assim, buscamos entender os caracteres morfológicos mais relevantes na delimitação de duas seções do gênero (Aspidosperma sect. Aspidosperma e A. sect. Pungentia), confrontando hipóteses de homologia primária com estudo filogenético molecular. Os dados dos caracteres foram obtidos através da literatura do gênero e confrontados em uma árvore filogenética para verificar a presença de características diagnósticas para as seções e espécies. Nossos resultados evidenciaram: (1) a confirmação de características diagnósticas para as duas seções; (2) a possibilidade de segregar a seção típica em três novas seções, com base nas características morfológicas; (3) a distinção de espécies tradicionalmente tratadas como sinônimos; (4) a importância da utilização de características da madeira para a delimitação de gêneros com ampla variação morfológica, como é o caso de Aspidosperma.

Abstract The objective of the present study was to investigate the frequency of oral leukoplakia and oral erythroplakia among young patients from three Brazilian reference centers in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. A retrospective study was carried out from 2011 to 2021 on 861 patients diagnosed with oral leukoplakia and oral erythroplakia. Demographic and clinicopathological data were evaluated. Fisher’s exact test was used to evaluate the association among sex, age, anatomical location, and histopathological diagnosis. A total of 83 (9.64%) cases involved young patients (aged 0.05). Oral leukoplakia and oral erythroplakia are uncommon diseases in young patients. In this population, oral leukoplakia shows a slight predilection for women aged between 30 and 39 years.

RESUMO Objetivo Avaliar o consumo alimentar, comportamento de risco para transtornos alimentares e percepção da imagem corporal em adolescentes praticantes de judô. Métodos Estudo transversal com adolescentes judocas participantes da Federação Paranaense de Judô. Os dados foram coletados por meio de um questionário on-line, contendo os instrumentos Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ) para avaliar percepção da imagem corporal, o Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26) para identificar comportamentos de risco para transtornos alimentares e o Recordatório alimentar de 24 horas para análise da ingestão alimentar. A insatisfação com o peso corporal foi obtida pelo relato dos que gostariam de ganhar ou perder peso. Resultados Participaram 57 judocas de ambos os sexos, maioria sexo masculino (54,3%; n=31). Ausência de comportamento de risco para transtorno alimentar (63,1%; n=36) e insatisfação com a imagem corporal (75,4%; n=43) foram prevalentes entre os judocas. Entre os que apresentaram insatisfação com a imagem corporal (36,8%; n=14), observou-se que 9 (15,78%) também mostraram comportamento alimentar de risco para transtornos alimentares pelo teste EAT-26 (p=0,002). Houve associação entre insatisfação com o peso e comportamento de risco para TA (p=0,034), representado pelo EAT positivo para 26,31% (n=15) dos adolescentes. Identificou-se valores de ingestão alimentar insuficientes de energia e carboidratos, bem como consumo elevado de proteínas, e inadequação na ingestão para a maioria dos micronutrientes. Conclusão A maioria dos atletas não apresentou comportamento de risco para TA e estavam satisfeitos com sua imagem corporal. Diate da inadequação no consumo alimentar, destaca-se a importância das ações de educação alimentar e nutricional voltadas para este público.

ABSTRACT The poor diet quality in line with the rising prevalence of noncommunicable chronic diseases, coupled with the substantial deficit in nutritional education within medical training programs, has precipitated the emergence of Culinary Medicine as an evolving discipline. Culinary Medicine fuses the art of home cooking with the sciences of human nutrition, psychology, gastronomy, and medicine to promote health and well-being. This comprehensive narrative review explores the diverse facets of Culinary Medicine, elucidating its historical evolution, theoretical foundations, educational initiatives in Brazil and worldwide, and its practical implementation in clinical contexts. By integrating evidence-based nutrition knowledge with culinary skills, behavior change tools, and well-established principles of healthy dietary practices, Culinary Medicine arrives to empower individuals – physicians and patients – to make informed dietary choices and enhance their overall health outcomes. Moreover, this review contemplates the roles of physicians in providing dietary guidance within the Culinary Medicine paradigm and the challenges associated with incorporating Culinary Medicine as a complementary facet of conventional medical care and medical education.

Abstract Among the hive products of stingless bees (SB), honey is distinguished because it has different physicochemical properties than the honey produced by Apis mellifera. Its taste is more acidic and less sweet, and it naturally contains a higher percentage of water. Honey is one of the most frequently adulterated products marketed. Therefore, this work aimed to verify if the qualitative tests performed for A. mellifera honey are also valid for SB honey from Tetragonisca angustula, Melipona quadrifasciata, and Tetragona elongata and if they can detect the most common adulterations. Adulterations of SB honey with corn syrup, inverted sugar, and A. mellifera honey were simulated and tested with Lugol, Fiehe, and Lund reactions. For these three analyses, sample volume reduction was also tested. The Lund test did not work well with honey samples from SB because they have a higher water content, and reliable results could not be obtained. For the other two tests, the sample volume reduction used was efficient. The Fiehe test detected adulteration with corn syrup only. The Lugol test detected corn syrup and inverted sugar adulterations in all dilutions for all three SB species. No adulteration by added water or honey from A. mellifera was detected in any test. Therefore, using the qualitative Lugol’s reaction test to evaluate SB honey quality is reasonably affordable. Since it is a rapid and inexpensive test, it allows the development of production chains for SB honey. Thus, detecting inauthentic honey can be done by combining qualitative tests as the first screening, followed by quantitative tests if necessary.

Abstract Objective To evaluate the mode of delivery according to Robson classification (RC) and the perinatal outcomes in fetal growth restriction (FGR) and small for gestational age (SGA) fetuses. Methods Retrospective cohort study by analyzing medical records of singleton pregnancies from two consecutive years (2018 and 2019). FGR was defined according to Delphi Consensus. ABSTRACT We present an updated checklist of Brazilian bats, commenting on the endemic and threatened status of the species listed and providing information on recent taxonomic and nomenclatural changes. The bats of Brazil comprise 186 species, 68 genera, and nine families, with 13 species exclusive to the country. From the previous checklists, we add eight species to Brazil: Artibeus amplus, Choeroniscus godmani, Glossophaga bakeri, Lichonycteris obscura, Platyrrhinus guianensis, Trachops ehrhardti, Molossus melini and Myotis pampa. The latter is reported for the country for the first time in this study. The Brazilian list of threatened species includes three species as vulnerable (Furipterus horrens, Lonchophylla bokermanni, and Natalus macrourus) and Lonchophylla dekeyseri as endangered. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) lists Natalus macrourus as “near threatened”, and Lonchophylla bokermanni and L. dekeyseri as “endangered”. Twenty-two additional species are probable for the country. Compared to previous lists, five species are now considered doubtful records and 19 are considered erroneous records. We reinforce the importance of a continuous update of the bat checklists in all Brazilian states as well as taxonomic revisions and bat inventories in unsampled areas.

The aim of this study was evaluated the influence of radiation as well as of new formulations of artificial saliva on the development of root dentin lesions. Bovine root samples were divided into: irradiated (70 Gy) dentin or not; the type of biofilm (from irradiated patient-experimental or non-irradiated patient-control) and the type of artificial saliva (for the condition irradiated dentin/biofilm from irradiated patient): Control Artificial Saliva (inorganic); Control Saliva + 1 mg/ml hemoglobin; Control Saliva +0.1 mg/ml cystatin; Control Saliva + hemoglobin + cystatin; Bioextra (positive control) and deionized water (DiW, negative control) (n = 12/group). A amelogênese imperfeita (AI) é uma condição que afeta gravemente o esmalte dentário. Na maioria dos casos, a estética e a função são comprometidas, enquanto as soluções são escassas e têm alto custo. O objetivo deste relato de caso é descrever um caso de reabilitação de um adolescente do sexo masculino de 13 anos com AI. Foi planejada uma reabilitação oral minimamente invasiva utilizando fluxo digital de trabalho para planejamento, impressão 3D de coroas e o uso de S-PRG fillers como solução estética e funcional, com menor custo, diante do caso de AI apresentado. Relato de caso: paciente do sexo masculino com 13 anos de idade e queixa de dor, sensibilidade e estética. O paciente foi diagnosticado com Amelogênese Imperfeita Hipomaturada-Hipoplásica Tipo IV (AIHHT - OMIM: 104510). O tratamento foi dividido em 3 fases: fase preventiva e de manejo da sensibilidade, reabilitação oral seguindo princípios minimamente invasivos - CAD-CAM e por fim tratamento ortodôntico. É possível concluir que o fluxo digital e a impressão 3D têm muitos benefícios para a odontologia, como previsibilidade do tratamento, menor desperdício de material, custo e tempo de trabalho. Também pode-se concluir que a odontologia digital permite a reabilitação oral seguindo os princípios de mínima intervenção e que foi um tratamento bem-sucedido com melhorias na estética, função e qualidade de vida do paciente.

In shrimp farming, the use of commercial feed can generate high nutrient loads in water bodies, and often constitute the most substantial component of production costs. Alternatives that seek to reduce the use of commercial feed can therefore both mitigate environmental impacts and reduce operational expenses. One possible strategy is incorporation of algae that crustaceans can consume with minimal biological effect into integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA) systems. Our objective was to determine whether the marine shrimp Penaeus vannamei feeds on the fresh macroalga Chaetomorpha clavata and whether the partial substitution (50 %) of this alga in its diet influences its physiology. Survival, growth, and a range of physiological processes including ingestion, defecation, metabolism, nitrogen excretion, oxidized energy substrate, hepatosomatic index, and energy budget were assessed in P. vannamei shrimp fed commercial feed (100 %, control) versus shrimp fed a combination of commercial feed and algae (50 % each). Our results showed that P. vannamei fed on C. clavata, and that there were no significant differences in mortality and growth rates (∼11 %) between shrimp fed with the two diets. The ingestion rate was higher in the group fed with macroalgae, however the defecation rate and digestibility were not affected. In both groups, no differences were detected in metabolic rates, growth, nitrogenous excretion, and egestion between shrimp fed the different diets, nor in oxidized energy substrates and the hepatosomatic index. Our results show that substituting 50 % of the feed with C. clavata represents a viable alternative to full commercial feed since it had minimal impact on the physiological functions of P. vannamei. In addition to the economic benefit of reducing the amount of feed used during culture, the use of algae also reduces contamination of effluent water, thereby improving environmental sustainability and water quality.

ABSTRACT Objective: The objective of the present study is to describe the sociodemographic and behavioral characteristics of a group of transgender women and travestis (TGW) with a history of incarceration and the institutional and social context of this experience in Brazil. Methods: The analyzed data were derived from the TransOdara Study, a cross-sectional study conducted in five Brazilian capitals from December 2019 to July 2021. Participants were recruited using the Respondent-Driven Sampling (RDS) technique, in which, after an initial formative and exploratory stage, the first participants were identified; in turn, these participants recruited up to six other transgender women and travestis for the research. The study’s outcome was the experience of incarceration throughout life, captured through the question: “Have you ever been arrested in your life?” Results: A total of 1,245 TGW were interviewed, of which 20.3% (n=253) experienced incarceration. Many studies present and evaluate daily-use systems ranging from information to conversational systems. Chatbots, either text-based or voice-based, have attracted the attention of researchers. In particular, User eXperience (UX) has been pointed out as one of the chatbot's leading aspects of evaluation involving pragmatic and hedonic aspects. Pragmatic aspects deal with the usability and efficiency of the system, while hedonic aspects consider aspects related to the originality, innovation, beauty of the system, and the user's psychological well-being. Even with existing research on usability evaluation and human-computer interaction within conversational systems, there is a clear shortfall in studies specifically addressing the hedonic aspects of user experience in chatbots. Therefore, this paper presents a Systematic Mapping Study that investigates various UX evaluation technologies (questionnaires, methods, techniques, and models, among others), focusing on the hedonic aspect of chatbots. We focused on studies with chatbots that are activated by text, although they may be able to display click interactions, videos, and images in addition to the text modality. We discovered 69 technologies to evaluate hedonic aspects of UX in chatbots, and the most frequent aspect found is the General UX . Our study provides relevant data on the research topic, addressing the specific characteristics of human-chatbot interaction, such as identity and social interaction. Moreover, we highlight gaps in the hedonic aspect evaluation in chatbots, such as a few works investigating the assessment of user emotional state.

Em 2015, a agenda consultiva do International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) identificou pontos nas Demonstrações Financeiras Primárias que poderiam ser melhorados e convocou reuniões com o intuito de elaborar um Exposure Draft (ED) (2016-2019) para discutir a respeito, e recebeu cartas de comentários de profissionais e entidades contábeis do mundo inteiro para avaliar as propostas do ED 2019/7. Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar as propostas contidas no Exposure Draft 2019/7, por meio das respostas e argumentos apresentados nas cartas de comentários enviadas por 216 profissionais e entidades de interesse. Constatou–se que as propostas na minuta de Exposição Geral e Divulgações focam principalmente na estrutura de apresentação da Demonstração de Resultados, requerendo que as entidades que reportam a informação, apresentem três novos subtotais de lucro, efetivamente alocando suas receitas e despesas entre quatro grandes categorias, e apresentem uma análise de suas despesas operacionais em face da demonstração de resultados. As análises da pesquisa demonstraram maioria favorável pelas mudanças propostas, entretanto, ressalvas quanto a melhores esclarecimentos e definições aos novos procedimentos. Diante do elevado nível de concordância com as propostas do ED 2019/7, conclui-se que as mudanças devem acontecer de forma significativa visando maior qualidade das informações reportadas, no entanto, podem gerar um ônus para as empresas para adaptação de seus sistemas de informação e capacitação de seus profissionais para atender a essas alterações.

A descoberta dos marcadores genéticos revolucionou a pesquisa científica e deu início às mais diversas aplicações no uso do DNA para identificação genética. Nas ciências forenses, por exemplo, o uso de marcadores possibilitou o aperfeiçoamento das metodologias empregadas na identificação genética humana, para fins cíveis, criminais e humanitários. Em 1997 o Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) estabeleceu o CODIS Core Loci, um conjunto de marcadores genéticos a serem utilizados em análises de identificação humana. O sistema CODIS (Combined DNA Index System) é utilizado para o gerenciamento de perfis genéticos e mais de 50 países aderiram à ferramenta, inclusive o Brasil, que em 2013 fundou a Rede Integrada de Bancos de Perfis Genéticos (RIBPG). Esta rede tem o objetivo de proporcionar o intercâmbio de perfis genéticos de interesse da Justiça, obtidos em laboratórios de perícia oficial.

Abstract Textile industries stand out as one of the main polluters of water resources, generating large amounts of liquid effluents with variable composition and intense coloration. The objective of this work is the integration of the reductive process using commercial steel wool, combined with oxidative processes, in the treatment of textile effluent. The effect of the variables of the reductive process were studied using a 32 factorial design. After 30 minutes, the reductive process allowed a reduction of 68% COD, 46% TOC, 62% true color and 72% of total phenols, but showed an increase in color apparent and turbidity, due to the iron species formed by the oxidation of steel wool during the process. With the combined process using sunlight, the reduction was 73% COD, 50% TOC, 97% phenols, 93% true color and 48% apparent color. With artificial light, the reduction was 94% COD, 63% TOC, 95% phenols, 98% true color and 65% apparent color. The evaluation of the acute toxicity against Daphnia magna indicated that after the proposed treatments, the effluent did not present toxicity or the toxicity was reduced. It is concluded that the combined process can be considered an efficient alternative for the treatment of textile effluent.

ABSTRACT The World Health Organization developed the "iSupport for Dementia" program for family caregivers of people with dementia. Objective: To explore studies on adaptation, randomized clinical trial protocols, and preliminary results of iSupport by unpaid caregivers of people living with dementia in different countries. Methods: Systematic review. Results: Ten cultural adaptation studies, eight randomized clinical trial protocols, and two preliminary results were included. Adaptation studies showed adjustments in terminology, design, and additional resources. Clinical trial protocols included burden as the primary outcome, and baseline, three months of intervention, and follow-up after six months. Studies with preliminary results found positive effects on the mental health and well-being of caregivers after using the program. Conclusion: iSupport is an online program of the World Health Organization in response to dementia in implementation in different countries.

Resumo Fundamento A frequência cardíaca (FC) na insuficiência cardíaca com fração de ejeção reduzida (ICFEr) e ritmo sinusal apresenta valor prognóstico. Entretanto, o método de mensuração é debatido na literatura. Objetivos Comparar em pacientes com ICFEr e ritmo sinusal a FC no Holter com três eletrocardiogramas de repouso: ECG1, ECG2 e ECG3. Metodologia Estudo transversal com 135 pacientes portadores de insuficiência cardíaca com fração de ejeção ≤ 40% e ritmo sinusal. A FC foi avaliada por ECG e Holter. Análises incluíram o coeficiente de correlação intraclasse (CCI), regressão robusta, raiz do erro quadrático médio, Bland-Altman e a área sobre a curva ROC. Adotou-se nível de significância de 0,05 e o ajuste de Bonferroni-Holm para minimizar erros tipo I. Resultados As medianas [intervalo interquartil] de idade e fração de ejeção foram de 65 anos [16] e 30% [11], respectivamente. O CCI dos 3 ECG foi de 0,922 (intervalo de confiança de 95%: 0,892; 0,942). Os coeficientes de regressão robusta para ECG1 e ECG3 foram 0,20 (intervalo de confiança de 95%: 0,12; 0,29) e 0,21 (intervalo de confiança de 95%: 0,06; 0,36). O R2 robusto foi de 0,711 (intervalo de confiança de 95%: 0,628; 0,76). Na análise de concordância de Bland-Altman, os limites de concordância foram de −17,0 (intervalo de confiança de 95%: −19,0; −15,0) e 32,0 (intervalo de confiança de 95%: 30,0; 34,0). A área sob a curva ROC foi de 0,896 (intervalo de confiança de 95%: 0,865; 0,923). Conclusão A FC do ECG mostrou alta concordância com a FC do Holter, validando seu uso clínico em pacientes com ICFEr e ritmo sinusal. Contudo, a concordância foi subótima em um terço dos pacientes com FC inferior a 70 bpm pelo ECG, devendo ser considerada a realização de Holter neste contexto.

Objective: To analyze the muscle mass and cross-sectional area of the muscular fiber of the hemiparetic soleus in an animal model, in order to identify the muscular adaptations that occur in ischemic stroke. Method: Twelve Rattus norvegicus were divided into 2 groups: stroke group (n=6) and control group (n=6). Each group was subdivided into two subgroups, with evaluations at 7 days (CG7 and SG7) and 21 days (CG21 and SG21) after the accident. Their soleus muscles were removed for muscle mass analysis and cross-sectional area of the muscular fibers (CSAMF) measurement. The adopted statistical significance was 5%. Result: Significant differences in the muscle mass were observed between CG7 (0.120 ± 0.005 g) vs. SG7 (0.100 ± 0.004 g; p=0.035), and between CG21 (0.130 ± 0.010 g) vs. SG21 (0.078 ± 0.006; p=0.012). Significant differences in the relative muscle mass were observed between CG7 (0.044 ± 0.002 g) vs SG7 (0.039 ± 0.003; p=0.025), and CG21 (0.044 ± 0.003) vs. SG21 (0.028 ± 0.002; p=0.011). The CSAMF showed significant differences between CG7 (2,322 μm2 [2312-2453]) vs. SG7 (2,056 μm2 [2,022-2,135]; p=0.012), and CG21 (2,667 μm2 [2,692-2,845]) vs. SG21 (2,050 μm2 [2,034-2,161]; p=0.006). Conclusion: In this study in animal models of ischemic stroke, there was a significant loss of muscle mass, and this loss was accentuated in the longer term of the injury, highlighting the importance of future research on types of muscle fibers and applicability in human patients.

Este relato de experiência apresenta uma ação extensionista desenvolvida, em 2019, entre a Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto (UFOP) e a Secretaria de Desenvolvimento Social e Cidadania (SEDESC) de Mariana (MG), junto ao Programa/Serviço Jovem Aprendiz. Nosso objetivo foi mediar reflexões sobre o (re)conhecimento das identidades juvenis marianenses, numa perspectiva interseccional, buscando contribuir para uma formação cidadã crítica da realidade social, a partir das narrativas de autoras/es negras/os. Utilizamos o método de Oficinas em Dinâmicas de Grupo. Como resultados, identificamos uma ausência de escritoras/es negras/os em espaços institucionais, situação suprida por manifestações artísticas literárias, repletas de críticas sociais, que possibilitaram a reflexão sobre os processos de desigualdade social, bem como caminhos para o seu enfrentamento. Concluímos que estas manifestações foram fundamentais para a (re)construção das narrativas a partir das vozes e trajetórias das/dos jovens.

Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar os relatos de idolatria apresentados pelos curas e ministros de índios Hernando Ruiz de Alarcón e Jacinto de la Serna, que escreveram, respectivamente, o Tratado de las supersticiones y costumbres gentílicas que ou viven entre los indios naturales desta Nueva España (1629) e o Manual de ministro de indios para el conocimiento de sus idolatrías, y extirpación de ellas (1656), nos quais elaboram planos de ação para o aprimoramento da catequese na colônia. A partir desses relatos, é possível analisar a prática cristã na Nova Espanha do século XVII à luz de um novo regime jurídico eclesiástico surgido com o III Concílio Provincial Mexicano. Dessa forma, busca-se comparar duas fontes que abordam práticas indígenas no contexto colonial e o olhar oficial da Igreja novohispana.

Comemorar 10 anos do Marco de Referência de Educação Alimentar e Nutricional para as Políticas Públicas é um privilégio e uma alegria. É com satisfação que apresentamos, aqui, os trabalhos selecionados com todo carinho e rigor que a data exige. Passaram-se dois anos desde que convocamos colegas a contribuírem para este número temático, um sintomático lapso de tempo que nos sugere que precisamos de tempo... tempo para pensar e repensar as práticas, tempo para decantar de nossas reflexões e construções teórico-metodológicas, elementos que indiquem as veredas onde os avanços no campo da Educação Alimentar e Nutricional (EAN) estão sendo pavimentados para os próximos dez ou doze anos. O Marco, nome carinhoso como tratamos essa publicação de 2012, marca de fato um contexto de fortalecimento dos espaços de participação social e de iniciativas intersetoriais para a promoção do Direito Humano à Alimentação Adequada (DHAA) e da Segurança Alimentar e Nutricional (SAN). Marca também a relevante e necessária produção de uma reflexão crítica sobre as ações de EAN, valorizando-a nos diversos contextos em que já era desenvolvida e incentivando sua inserção em novos cenários.1 Esses novos cenários foram se apresentando ao longo dos anos, marcados também por uma série de adversidades, tais como: (1) os ataques aos referenciais da educação crítica, sobretudo a Paulo Freire, produzidos por uma onda conservadora que se espalhou em diversos aspectos da vida social; (2) o crescimento de perspectivas de atuação profissional fortemente marcadas pelos valores neoliberais que exercem sobre o nutricionista o ideal de tornar-se “empreendedor de si”; (3) a crise sanitária relacionada à Covid-19 e a necessidade de mudanças no cotidiano (incluindo o afastamento social), que demandaram adaptações às formas de cuidar da alimentação, nutrição e saúde e de fazer EAN; e (4) o desmonte, esvaziamento e reconfiguração das políticas públicas de SAN e de outras políticas sociais que, combinados com o contexto de crises (econômica, social, climática e sanitária), trouxeram o aumento avassalador da fome em todo país. Além das adversidades, cabe aqui registrar os reconhecidos avanços relativos aos debates sobre ambientes alimentares, sistemas alimentares sustentáveis e justos e a visibilidade dada às questões de gênero e raça entre os determinantes da saúde, assim como as contribuições do Marco no estímulo ao registro e sistematização de novas práticas, múltiplos saberes e questões étnico-raciais em alimentação e nutrição. No contexto desses avanços, destacamos duas importantes iniciativas: em um primeiro momento, em 2012, a criação da Rede Virtual Ideias na Mesa, com o intuito de favorecer a troca de experiências de EAN e o apoio à formação de profissionais para atuar nessa área;2 e, mais recentemente o Laboratório de Inovação em Educação Alimentar e Nutricional (LIS-EAN), lançado no contexto da celebração dos 10 anos do Marco que se dedica a reunir experiências de EAN exitosas, além de sistematizar o conhecimento de maneira a ampliar o acesso e o compartilhamento entre gestores e profissionais da saúde e de outros setores.3 Reconhecemos nessas iniciativas a importância de descrever, sistematizar e publicizar essas experiências e, principalmente, de partilhar os sucessos de profissionais que atuam na EAN. Contudo, apesar da grande quantidade de relatos de experiências enviados para essa chamada temática, entendemos que era o momento oportuno de dar mais ênfase às lacunas, renovando, mais uma vez, os desafios com que somos confrontados em nosso cotidiano e possibilitando o avanço sempre possível e necessário ao campo da EAN. Assim, os artigos aqui reunidos apresentam sistematizações e análises que, na esteira das inovações trazidas pelo Marco, puderam sustentar espaços nos quais, tradicionalmente, se desenvolvem práticas de EAN, como escolas, unidades de atenção primária à saúde, estágios e projetos de extensão desenvolvidos nas universidades, mas também apontar novos elementos que contribuem para uma concepção de EAN que se liberte das amarras de uma educação bancária. Esse é um desafio permanente e que ainda se impõe ao campo da EAN. Ou seja, mudar práticas não é nada simples, sobretudo quando nos vemos diante de uma formação profissional que se utiliza de abordagens pedagógicas tradicionais, por vezes voltadas a demandas de um mundo neoliberal que responsabiliza unicamente o indivíduo, e não renuncia a concepções arcaicas e normativas sobre os binômios saúde-doença, certo-errado, bom-mau.

Abstract Objective: to analyze the meaning attributed by parents to the extended and permanent survival of childhood cancer. Method: qualitative narrative inquiry, developed with parents of adolescents and young adults who survived childhood cancer. Recruitment and data collection involved virtual and in-person approaches. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews. Data were analyzed according to reflective thematic analysis. Results: a total of ten parents were included in the study. Two thematic narrative syntheses were constructed: “Times of war”; and “Time of uncertain peace”, with their respective sub-themes. The cancer diagnosis marks the beginning of times of war in the parents’ lives. They experience cancer treatment as “highs and lows” with potential threats to their children’s lives. After that, “Time of uncertain peace” are reached, and the balance of the family unit is reestablished. However, the fear of recurrence makes the family peace uncertain, and its maintenance requires constant vigilance and attention to the signs and symptoms of a possible new battle. Conclusion: the results highlight the experience of being a parent of a childhood cancer survivor and can be applied to develop models of care centered on the survivors’ family.

Tumefactive multiple sclerosis (TMS) is a rare variant of multiple sclerosis that presents with a large demyelinating lesion in the central nervous system, accompanied by peripheral ring-like enhancement, perilesional oedema and mass effect. We report a case of a 59-year-old woman who was admitted to the hospital with a four-day history of somnolence, muscle weakness in her left extremities and ultimately, loss of consciousness. Over the following 48 hours, the patient’s condition worsened with progressive consciousness impairment. Although the results of the initial head computed tomography (CT) scan supported the diagnosis of a multifocal ischaemic stroke, toxoplasmosis was proposed as the most credible diagnostic hypothesis by brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Due to the adverse clinical progression following the initiation of targeted therapy and inconclusive investigation, a brain biopsy was performed, which was indicative of active TMS in a subacute phase. The patient was started on plasmapheresis and natalizumab along with corticosteroids, with a very good response. In conclusion, we report a biopsy-proven TMS diagnosis in a patient that clinically mimicked an acute stroke and was radiographically confounded with intracranial toxoplasmosis. It highlights that TMS is an uncommon neurological demyelinating disease that is often misdiagnosed. It also emphasises the importance of establishing an accurate differential diagnosis to promptly initiate aggressive immunosuppressive treatment, which may result in a more favourable prognosis.

Syringoma is a rare benign adnexal tumor of the intraepidermal eccrine duct of unknown etiology. It is typically characterized by multiple, bilateral, yellow-brownish or skin-colored papules measuring 1-5 mm. Syringomas predominantly affect the face but can also be found in gluteal, pubic, vulvar, or thoracic regions. In this article, we report two cases of vulvar papules with a confirmed diagnosis of syringoma by histopathological analysis, which were successfully treated with carbon dioxide (CO2) laser therapy. The selected treatment approach was easy to implement and resulted in a favorable clinical response, including improvement of itching after the first session.

A partir do modelo teórico da constitucionalização do direito civil de Pietro Perlingieri, o artigo dedica-se à análise do tratamento normativo dos novos bens digitais com base no perfil funcional das situações jurídicas, que distingue as situações patrimoniais das existenciais, instrumentalizando as primeiras às segundas. Entretanto, com base no método dedutivo e na revisão teórica, o artigo visa a identificar o problema decorrente dos bens com natureza dúplice, em que se combinam elementos de patrimonialidade e existencialidade, tais como perfis em redes sociais e canais no Youtube que veiculam a divulgação de produtos e marcas de forma associada ao estilo de vida pessoal do influencer; sites de relacionamento com modalidades premium, em que o pagamento acontece para facilitar o acesso a dados de outra pessoa e, assim, promover a busca e o encontro pretendido; e, ainda os social games, nos quais os participantes interagem entre si, atrelados a redes sociais e com base em dados nelas disponíveis, para construir uma identidade no ciberespaço. Constatou-se que tais bens acabam por transferir ao intérprete a responsabilidade por reconhecer no direito tanto o papel de assegurar sua disposição em conformidade com a autonomia existencial do seu titular, mas também criar barreiras contra a mercantilização da pessoa humana

Abstract Projecting future climate variables is essential for comprehending the potential impacts on hydroclimatic hazards like floods and droughts. Evaluating these impacts is challenging due to the coarse spatial resolution of global climate models (GCMs); therefore, bias correction is widely used. Here, we applied two statistical methods—standard empirical quantile mapping (EQM) and a hybrid approach, EQM with linear correction (EQM‐LIN)—to bias correct precipitation and air temperature simulated by nine GCMs. We used historical observations from 20 weather stations across South Florida to project future climate under three shared socioeconomic pathways (SSPs). Compared to the EQM, the hybrid EQM‐LIN method improved R2 of daily quantiles by up to 30% over the historical period and improved MAE up to 70% in months that contain most extreme values. Projected extreme precipitation at the weather stations showed that, compared to the EQM‐LIN, the EQM method underestimates the high quantiles by up to 26% in SSP585. The projected changes in annual maximum precipitation from historical period (1985–2014) to near future (2040–2069) and far future (2070–2100) were between 2% and 16% across the study area. Projected future precipitation suggested a slight decrease during summer but an increase in fall. This, along with rising summer temperatures, suggested that South Florida can experience rapid oscillations from warmer summers and increased flooding in fall under future climate. Additionally, our comparative analyses with globally and nationally downscaled studies showed that such coarse scale studies do not represent the climatic extremes well, particularly for high quantile precipitation.

Objetivo: realizar la adaptación transcultural y la evaluación de las propiedades psicométricas de la Escala INTEGRARE para el portugués de Brasil. Método: estudio metodológico cuyas etapas fueron traducción, síntesis, retrotraducción y revisión por expertos. Se evaluaron las propiedades psicométricas con respecto a la confiabilidad, validación de contenido y validación de constructo convergente, con la Escala de Braden. El pretest se realizó con 30 pacientes y la validación con 120 pacientes adultos internados en unidades clínicas y quirúrgicas de un hospital escuela del sur de Brasil. Resultados: la Escala INTEGRARE fue fácil de aplicar y comprensible, lo que demuestra que se puede aplicar a la realidad brasileña. En el análisis de las propiedades psicométricas de confiabilidad se identificó consistencia interna con alfa de Cronbach cuestionable (α=0,63); sin embargo, en la validez convergente hubo correlación significativa, positiva y fuerte (Rho=0,741; p
