A system of balance equations is used to calculate the time (t) dependence of the intensity (I) of the output of a Nd:YAG laser rod from the time a pump pulse is applied for different levels of excitation of the rod by arrays of laser diodes (transverse pump configuration). Comparison of the calculations with experimental data shows that an analysis of the I(t) curves can be used to determine the contributions of amplified luminescence and parasitic lasing modes, which do not leave the volume of the active medium, to the overall loss of pump radiation energy. The model approach developed here can be used to evaluate the quality of the active media in diode-pumped solid-state lasers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The plasmid-transposon Tn9-322 was constructed by inverted transposition from the pBR322::Tn9 plasmid. The precise excision of the Tn9-322 transposon from the proB gene site can proceed by the Campbell's model. This fact was demonstrated by appearance of the plasmid-transposons after their precise excision. They contain two IS1 elements flanking a short direct repeat of the target DNA. The recombinational mechanism of precise excision of Tn9 type transposons seems not to be alternative but looks as an additional one to a well-known slippage mechanism proved for Tn5 and Tn10.

We have studied an all solid-state diode-side-pumped laser which lases in the nominally eye-safe spectral range of ~1.5-1.6 μm. The optical configuration of the laser is based on using a potassium gadolinium tungstate crystal doped with neodymium ions, in which lasing occurs at a wavelength of λ = 1.351 μm and stimulated Raman selfconversion occurs to the first Stokes component (λ = 1.538 μm). The maximum output pulse energy was 17 mJ and 7 mJ for repetition frequencies of respectively 1 Hz and 10 Hz. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

RecF, recQ, ruv, recJ and recN genes of so called RecF pathway of recombination appear to be not silent on the RecBCD pathway also. These genes are responsible for the frequency of recombination exchanges per unit length of DNA. The list: recF::Kmr greater than recQ::Tn3 greater than ruv54 greater than recJ::Tn9 demonstrated the efficiency of inhibition of recombination exchanges by these mutations. The recN262 mutation gives a feeble contrary effect. It slightly increases the frequency of recombination exchanges.

The problem of the therapy of otitis externa in industrial workers is one of the most serious in otiatria. The fact that the disease is caused by various factors is responsible for the low effectiveness of traditional therapy. This paper describes a combined treatment which includes trichopol ointment, drugs that enhance regenerative processes, drugs that decrease sensitization, and elements of chronotherapy. The treatment proved to be effective and can therefore be recommended for clinical application.

Rec A Recombinases ,Base Sequence ,Genes, Bacterial ,Molecular Sequence Data ,Escherichia coli ,Amino Acid Sequence ,Serratia marcescens - Abstract
Nucleotide sequence of the 1276 bp fragment of Serratia marcescens DNA coding for the recASM gene has been determined. This structure was shown to contain an ORF corresponding to a protein with molecular weight of 37766 D. Comparative analysis of the regulatory part of recASM and recAEC (Escherichia coli) demonstrated identity of "-35" and "-10" boxes for these genes and similarity of the SOS box and the enhancer sequences. A comparison of the amino acids sequences of RecASM, RecAEC and RecAPA (Pseudomonas aeruginosa) proteins revealed a great conservatism in the N-terminus and in some structural patches (alpha-helices and beta-sheets) of the RecA proteins predicted by the model of Blanar et al. In contrast, a strong variability of the C-terminus (for the last 25 amino acids, in particular) was revealed. A necessity for definite amino acids composition of the carboxy-terminal end is discussed.

Specific features of microcirculation of the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity of 32 patients over 57 years were investigated. Additionally, microcirculation of the mucous membrane of the nasal septum and wall of untreated rabbits and rabbits, that for 5 months were on a cholesterol enriched diet, was examined. It was shown that in both cases the transport function of capillaries and, consequently, the structure of the mucous membrane deteriorated which may contribute to the development of persistent rhinosinusitis.

- Abstract
The first data are presented on the tipuloid dipterans from the Putorana Plateau, the Central Siberian Plateau: the crane-flies, Tipula ( Arctotipula) oklandi Al., Tipula ( Pterelachisus) tundrensis stackelbergiana Lack., Tipula ( Vestiplex) arctica Curt., and Tipula ( Yamatotipula) lionota Holm.; and the limoniids, Dactylolabis ( Dactylolabis) novaezemblae (Al.) and Dactylolabis ( Dactylolabis) tschernovi sp. n. A new species, Dactylolabis ( D.) tschernovi sp. n., is described from the adult males and females. The male of the new species is very similar to those of Dactylolabis ( Dactylolabis) carbonaria Sav. and Dactylolabis ( Dactylolabis) satanas Sav. but can be distinguished from the former by the presence of a distinct throat, by the coloration of the head, femora, tibiae, and abdominal segments, as well as by the spear-shaped interbase of the hypopygium; and from the latter species, by the fully developed wings and by the absence of large spines at the base of the interbases. - Abstract
AbstractWrangel Island, Russia, because of its geographic position, harsh climate, yet surprising biodiversity, has been geobotanically studied and divided into various subzones. The distributions of the three species of the subgenus Tipula(Arctotipula) (Diptera: Tipulidae) that have been collected on Wrangel Island are related to these subzones. The predominantly Nearctic species, T.(A.) besselsoidesAlexander, 1919, is newly recorded for Russia as well as on this island, where it was found to be the most widespread of the three species. The Holarctic species, T.(A.) salicetorumSiebke, 1870, is rarer, being found mostly in the climatically harsh northern and eastern areas of the island. The third species, T.(A.) oklandiAlexander, 1922, which was thought to have been more widespread formerly, is here confirmed only for Russia. It was collected in the warmest part of the island, and the female is illustrated for the first time. An illustrated key to both male and female adults is presented. Distribution maps are provided for all species, and the data on the distribution of oklandihave been adjusted.

- Abstract
The first data are presented on the tipuloid dipterans from the Putorana Plateau, the Central Siberian Plateau: the crane-flies, Tipula(Arctotipula) oklandiAl., Tipula(Pterelachisus) tundrensis stackelbergianaLack., Tipula(Vestiplex) arcticaCurt., and Tipula(Yamatotipula) lionotaHolm.; and the limoniids, Dactylolabis(Dactylolabis) novaezemblae(Al.) and Dactylolabis(Dactylolabis) tschernovisp. n. A new species, Dactylolabis(D.) tschernovisp. n., is described from the adult males and females. The male of the new species is very similar to those of Dactylolabis(Dactylolabis) carbonariaSav. and Dactylolabis(Dactylolabis) satanasSav. but can be distinguished from the former by the presence of a distinct throat, by the coloration of the head, femora, tibiae, and abdominal segments, as well as by the spear-shaped interbase of the hypopygium; and from the latter species, by the fully developed wings and by the absence of large spines at the base of the interbases.

- Abstract
Possibilities of obtaining quantitative information about the deformation influence on the SFMI with a small number of excited modes by using a correlation method are investigated. It was shown that usage of diffusive scatterer allows us to transform the radiation of SFMI to a speckle field which can easily be processed. The working range of the SFMI deformation measurements is 0 – 160 µm with precision up to 10 µm.

The kinetics of polycondensation of the diglycidyl ether of diphenylol propane and 3,3′-dichloro-4,4′-diaminodiphenylmethane has been studied by GPC and pulsed NMR. It is shown that in a wide interval of depths of conversion to the point of gel formation change in the concentrations of the starting substances and the reaction products are described by statistical laws. The molecular heterogeneity of the reaction system leads to heterogeneity of the kinetic properties, the molecules of the non-reacting epoxide oligomer and amine and also the products of attachment containing one amine molecule and from one to four units of the epoxide oligomer being responsible for the most mobile phase.

From the data on nuclear magnetic transverse relaxation the authors have derived information on change in the heterogeneity of the kinetic properties of molecules in the PVC-oligoether acrylate system at 20–175°C. Thermo-oxidative polymerization of oligoether acrylate in the polymer matrix is severely limited at a concentration of oligomer 50 wt.% in the same way as in the initial oligoether acrylate. Such specifics of oxidative polymerization in the absence of material initiators is predetermined by the character of the distribution of the temporary plasticizer in the system.

The transverse (T2) NMR relaxation data were used for an investigation of some epoxy amine polymers prepared with differing epoxy/amine group ratios and various degrees of substitution of diepoxide by monoepoxide (stoichiometric ratios). The two-component character of the transverse relaxation times and the extent and the nature of temperature and concentration changes in the populations of particular groups of protons can be related to the topography of network structures.

The process of crosslinking in a polymer prepared from diphenylolpropane diglycidyl ether and 1,3-bis-(aminomethyl)-adamantane was studied by the methods of NMR transversal relaxation, differential microcalorimetry and IR spectroscopy. In native samples a group of slowly relaxing protons was observed, with a glass temperature higher by 20 K than Tg of the polymer cured to the limit. The temperature of mobility melting in structural elements in native and post-cured polymer samples falls with an increase in the temperature of isothermic curing.

The relaxational properties of epoxide oligomers have been studied by pulsed NMR. The kinetic heterogeneity is associated either with phase separation or the presence of a wide fractional composition of the oligomeric system. Comparison of the results of pulsed NMR with those of viscometry and dielectric methods shows that a decisive contribution to the character of the temperature dependence of the relaxational parameters is made by the free volume of the system.

The high temperature inhibited polymerization of oligoether acrylate is studied by IR spectroscopy and pulsed nuclear magnetic relaxation methods. The data obtained provide a means of more clearly defining the microheterogeneous model of the 3-dimensional radical-initiated polymerization of the oligoether acrylate. The structural inhomogenity of network polyether acrylate is already established during hardening at the microphase separation stage in the reaction system. Moreover, the defective microscopic interphase is formed almost simultaneously with the microphase indicated by the maximum packing density of the microchange (and not at the stage of phase inversion). Phase inversion in the reaction system completely suppresses growth of the microphase having a crosslinking density close to the limiting topological one.

A study has been made of the nuclear magnetic relaxation in two epoxy-rubber systems with differing phase structures. Heterogeneity in the heterophase system made up of difficulty compatible components has no significant influence on the dynamics of their molecular motions. Readily compatible components of the homogeneous system do have a marked effect on the molecular mobility of one another.
