Objective Extraintestinal Pathogenic E. coli (ExPEC), are responsible for host diseases such as Neonatal Meningitis Escherichia coli (NMEC), the second-leading cause of neonatal bacterial meningitis, Avian Pathogenic E. coli (APEC), a cause of extraintestinal disease in poultry, and Uropathogenic E. coli (UPEC), the most common cause of urinary tract infections. Virulence factors associated with NMEC include outer membrane protein A (OmpA) and type I fimbriae (FimH), which also occur in APEC and UPEC. OmpA contributes to NMEC’s ability to cross the blood–brain barrier, persist in the bloodstream and has been identified as a potential vaccine target for ExPEC, however the protein has amino acid variants, which may influence virulence of strains or alter vaccine efficacy. Although OmpA is present in virtually all E. coli, differences in its amino acid residues have yet to be surveyed in ExPEC. Results Here the ompA gene (n = 399) from ExPEC collections were sequenced and translated in silico. Twenty-five different OmpA polymorphism patterns were identified. Seven polymorphism patterns were significantly associated with an ExPEC subpathotype, but chromosomal history most likely accounts for most differences found. The differences in OmpA protein sequences suggest that OmpA may influence variation in virulence and host specificity within ExPEC subpathotypes.

Chlamydia trachomatis is the most prevalent sexually transmitted bacterium worldwide and the causative agent of trachoma. Its strains are classified according to their ompA genotypes, which are strongly linked to differential tissue tropism and disease outcomes [ocular disease, urogenital disease and lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV)]. While the genome-based species phylogenetic tree presents four main clades correlating with tropism/prevalence, namely ocular, LGV, urogenital T1 (more prevalent genotypes) and urogenital T2 (less prevalent genotypes), inter-clade exchange of ompA is considered a rare phenomenon probably mediating marked tropism alterations. An LGV epidemic, associated with the clonal expansion of the L2b genotype, has emerged in the last few decades, raising concerns particularly due to its atypical clinical presentation (ulcerative proctitis) and circulation among men who have sex with men (MSM). Here, we report an LGV outbreak, mostly affecting human immunodeficiency virus-positive MSM engaging in high-risk sexual practices, caused by an L2b strain with a rather unique non-LGV ompA signature that precluded the laboratory notification of this outbreak as LGV. C. trachomatis whole-genome capture and sequencing directly from clinical samples was applied to deeply characterize the genomic backbone of this novel LGV outbreak-causing clone. It revealed a chimeric genome structure due to the genetic transfer of ompA and four neighbouring genes from a serovar D/Da strain, likely possessing the genomic backbone associated with the more prevalent urogenital genotypes (T1 clade), to an LGV (L2b) strain. The hybrid L2b/D-Da strain presents the adhesin and immunodominant antigen MOMP (major outer membrane protein) (encoded by ompA) with an epitope repertoire typical of non-invasive genital strains, while keeping the genome-dispersed virulence fingerprint of a classical LGV strain. As previously reported for inter-clade ompA exchange among non-LGV clades, this novel C. trachomatis genomic mosaic involving a contemporary epidemiologically and clinically relevant LGV strain may have implications on its transmission, tissue tropism and pathogenic capabilities. Background Mass drug administration (MDA) with azithromycin is a cornerstone of the trachoma elimination strategy. Although the global prevalence of active trachoma has declined considerably, prevalence persists or even increases in some communities and districts. To increase understanding of MDA impact, we investigated the prevalence of active trachoma and ocular C. trachomatis prevalence, organism load, and circulating strains at baseline and one-year post-MDA in The Gambia and Senegal. Methods Pre- and one-year post-MDA, children aged 0–9 years were examined for clinical signs of trachoma in six Gambian and 12 Senegalese villages. Ocular swabs from each child’s right conjunctiva were tested for evidence of ocular C. trachomatis infection and organism load (ompA copy number), and ompA and multi-locus sequence typing (MLST) was performed. Results A total of 1171 children were examined at baseline and follow-up in The Gambia. Active trachoma prevalence decreased from 23.9% to 17.7%, whereas ocular C. trachomatis prevalence increased from 3.0% to 3.8%. In Senegal, 1613 and 1771 children were examined at baseline and follow-up, respectively. Active trachoma prevalence decreased from 14.9% to 8.0%, whereas ocular C. trachomatis prevalence increased from 1.8% to 3.6%. Higher organism load was associated with having active trachoma and severe inflammation. Sequence typing demonstrated that all Senegalese samples were genovar A, whereas Gambian samples were a mix of genovars A and B. MLST provided evidence of clustering at village and household levels and demonstrated differences of strain variant frequencies in Senegal, indicative of an “outbreak”. MLST, including partial ompA typing, provided greater discriminatory power than complete ompA typing. Conclusions We found that one round of MDA led to an overall decline in active trachoma prevalence but no impact on ocular C. trachomatis infection, with heterogeneity observed between villages studied. This could not be explained by MDA coverage or number of different circulating strains pre- and post-MDA. The poor correlation between active trachoma and infection prevalence supports the need for further work on alternative indicators to clinical signs for diagnosing ocular C. trachomatis infection. MLST typing has potential molecular epidemiology utility, including better understanding of transmission dynamics, although relationship to whole-genome sequence variability requires further exploration.

In order to determine the presence and genetic diversity of Chlamydia spp. in the north-eastern area of Buenos Aires province, Argentina, conjunctival, oropharyngeal, cloacal swab and tissues were collected from a total of 90 psittacine pet birds of different age and clinical manifestations. Through molecular methods, Chlamydiaceae was detected in 30% (27/90) of the samples, out of which 70.3% (19/27) were positive for Chlamydia psittaci and 14.9% (4/27) for Chlamydia abortus. Nine C. psittaci positive samples were genotyped by ompA gene sequences, 8 clustered within genotype A and 1 within genotype B. A significant association was observed between the presence of Chlamydia spp. and the manifestation of clinical signs compatible with chlamydiosis, as well as with the age of the birds (younger than one year old). This report contributes to the improvement of our understanding of chlamydial agents in our country. Con el objetivo de determinar la presencia de Chlamydia spp. en psitácidos del área noreste de la provincia de Buenos Aires y conocer su diversidad genética, se recolectaron y analizaron mediante métodos moleculares hisopados conjuntivales, orofaríngeos, cloacales y tejidos de un total de 90 psitácidos de diferentes edades y con diversas manifestaciones clínicas. El 30% (27/90) de las muestras procesadas fueron positivas para Chlamydiaceae; el 70,3% (19/27) de estas resultaron positivas para Chlamydia psittaci y el 14,9% (4/27) para Chlamydia abortus. Nueve muestras positivas para C. psittaci fueron genotipificadas por secuenciación del gen ompA: 8 correspondieron al genotipo Ay una al genotipo B. Se observó una asociación significativa entre la presencia de Chlamydia spp. y la manifestación de signos clínicos compatibles con clamidiosis, como así también con la edad de las aves (menores de un ano). Este informe contribuye a mejorar nuestro conocimiento de los agentes clamidiales en nuestro país.

A defining characteristic of Gram-negative bacteria is the presence of an outer membrane, which functions as an additional barrier inhibiting the penetration of toxic chemicals, such as antibiotics. Porins are outer membrane proteins associated with the modulation of cellular permeability and antibiotic resistance. Although there are numerous studies regarding porins, a systematic approach about the roles of porins in bacterial physiology and antibiotic resistance does not exist yet. In this study, we constructed mutants of all porins in Escherichia coli and examined the effect of porins on antibiotic resistance and membrane integrity. The OmpF-defective mutant was resistant to several antibiotics including β-lactams, suggesting that OmpF functions as the main route of outer membrane penetration for many antibiotics. In contrast, OmpA was strongly associated with the maintenance of membrane integrity, which resulted in the increased susceptibility of the ompA mutant to many antibiotics. Notably, OmpC was involved in both the roles. Additionally, our systematic analyses revealed that other porins were not involved in the maintenance of membrane integrity, but several porins played a major or minor role in the outer membrane penetration for a few antibiotics. Collectively, these results show that each porin plays a distinct role in antibiotic resistance and membrane integrity, which could improve our understanding of the physiological function and clinical importance of porins.

Chlamydia trachomatis is the causative agent of a variety of chlamydial infections in humans with a predominantly (up to 80%) asymptomatic course of disease. In this study, a potentially novel C. trachomatis sequence type (ST) was detected in an asymptomatic man who has sex with a man among the nine STs revealed in urogenital swabs from individuals with chlamydia (n = 18). Phylogenetically this ST270 clustered separately as a single clade to an ST13-founded group of C. trachomatis strains and differed from the latter by a single allele, hflX. This finding emphasizes the importance of careful investigation of individuals with asymptomatic chlamydia infections.

Background Gram-negative bacteria actively secrete outer membrane vesicles into the surrounding environment and these vesicles have been shown to play various physiological and protective roles such as carrying antibiotic-degrading enzymes and acting as decoys against host defences, therefore promoting the pathogenesis of the bacterium. It has been shown that avian pathogenic Escherichia coli species can increase vesicle biosynthesis through the acquisition of the hlyF gene but the effect this has on the cell by scavenging outer-membrane associated proteins (OmpA, OmpF) into the vesicles during vesicle release have not yet been investigated. Results Relative quantitative real-time PCR data obtained from hlyF expressing and non-expressing cells showed that during hlyF induction, ompF showed a nearly 2-fold down regulation relative to the non-expressing cells during the entire 24 hours, while ompA was expressed at the same level as the non-expressing cells during the first 8 hours of expression. At 24 hours post-hlyF expression, ompA was up-regulated 4-fold. Conclusions The regulatory effects of the newly described outer-membrane vesicle biosynthesis-related gene, hlyF, on E. coli has not previously been investigated. As hlyF-induced vesicles contain OmpA and OmpF scavenged from the bacterial outer-membrane, potential regulatory effects on the host was investigated. An increase in ompA expression and an insignificant decrease in ompF expression was observed during hlyF induction demonstrating that hlyF-related biosynthesis is not related to decreased ompA expression, which is one of the potential mechanisms discussed in literature for biosynthesis. Outer-membrane vesicle biosynthesis during hlyF over-expression could potentially be accomplished through a different mechanism(s).

We report molecular detection of Rickettsia africae in Amblyomma ovale ticks from Nicaragua and a novel rickettsial strain in an A. triste tick. Of 146 ticks from dogs, 16.4% were Rickettsia PCR positive. The presence of Rickettsia spp. in human-biting ticks in Nicaragua may pose a public health concern.

We investigated 16 Japanese spotted fever cases that occurred in southeastern China during September-October 2015. Patients had fever, rash, eschar, and lymphadenopathy. We confirmed 9 diagnoses and obtained 2 isolates with high identity to Rickettsia japonica strain YH. R. japonica infection should be considered for febrile patients in China.

The oil and gas industry generates large amounts of oil-derived effluents such as Heavy Crude Oil (HCO) in water (W) emulsions, which pose a significant remediation and recovery challenge due to their high stability and the presence of environmentally concerning compounds. Nanomaterials emerge as a suitable alternative for the recovery of such effluents, as they can separate them under mild conditions. Additionally, different biomolecules with bioremediation and interfacial capabilities have been explored to functionalize such nanomaterials to improve their performance even further. Here, we put forward the notion of combining these technologies for the simultaneous separation and treatment of O/W effluent emulsions by a novel co-immobilization approach where both OmpA (a biosurfactant) and Laccase (a remediation enzyme) were effectively immobilized on polyether amine (PEA)-modified magnetite nanoparticles (MNPs). The obtained bionanocompounds (i.e., MNP-PEA-OmpA, MNP-PEA-Laccase, and MNP-PEA-OmpA-Laccase) were successfully characterized via DLS, XRD, TEM, TGA, and FTIR. The demulsification of O/W emulsions was achieved by MNP-PEA-OmpA and MNP-PEA-OmpA-Laccase at 5000 ppm. This effect was further improved by applying an external magnetic field to approach HCO removal efficiencies of 81% and 88%, respectively. The degradation efficiencies with these two bionanocompounds reached levels of between 5% and 50% for the present compounds. Taken together, our results indicate that the developed nanoplatform holds significant promise for the efficient treatment of emulsified effluents from the oil and gas industry.

Acinetobacter baumannii is known for its virulence in severely ill, hospitalized patients and for exhibiting multidrug resistance. A. baumannii infection treatment poses a serious problem in clinical environments. The outer membrane protein A (OmpA) of the Acinetobacter genus is involved in bacterial virulence. Regulatory factors of OmpA in the post-transcriptional stage have been previously identified. However, the regulatory factors that act before the transcriptional stage remain unclear. We investigated the A1S_0316 gene that encodes a putative transcription factor for OmpA expression in A. baumannii. A1S_0316 was purified and examined using size-exclusion chromatography, which revealed that it forms an oligomer. The binding affinity of A1S_0316 to the OmpA promoter region was also examined. We compared the binding affinity to the OmpA promotor region between A1S_0316 and the AbH-NS protein. A1S_0316 showed higher binding affinity to the OmpA promotor region than did H-NS. We examined the regulatory effect of these proteins on OmpA expression in A. baumannii using real-time qPCR and various in vitro tools. Our results indicated that A1S_0316 acts as an anti-repressor on the promotor region of the OmpA gene by inhibiting the binding of the AbH-NS protein. This study was the first demonstration of the transcriptional regulation of OmpA expression.

Background Acinetobacter baumannii is an important pathogen in health care and is responsible for severe nosocomial and community-acquired pneumonia. To design novel therapeutic agents, a mouse model for A. baumannii pneumonia is essential. Methods We described a mouse model of A. baumannii using clinical and 19606R standard strains for developing a quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) for rapid identification of A. baumannii infection from lung tissues of BALB/c mice. Results To infect the mice, three doses of bacteria (0.5 × 108, 1 × 108, and 1.5 × 108 cfu/ml) were used. Lung tissues were cultured and compared with ompA gene. Clinical isolates had better positive results at day three with the highest dose than 19606 strain either in culture (4 versus 3) or in qRT-PCR (5 versus 4). However, qRT-PCR detection was 100%, the specificity was 70%, and the positive predictive value was 27%. Conclusion The qRT-PCR detection of A. baumannii in the BALB/c mice model has a higher sensitivity than the culture method.

Acinetobacter baumannii is a nosocomial human pathogen of increasing concern due to its multidrug resistance profile. The outer membrane protein A (OmpA) is an abundant bacterial cell surface component involved in A. baumannii pathogenesis. It has been shown that the C-terminal domain of OmpA is located in the periplasm and non-covalently associates with the peptidoglycan layer via two conserved amino acids, thereby anchoring OmpA to the cell wall. Here, we investigated the role of one of the respective residues, D268 in OmpA of A. baumannii clinical strain Ab169, on its virulence characteristics by complementing the &Delta, ompA mutant with the plasmid-borne ompAD268A allele. We show that while restoring the impaired biofilm formation of the &Delta, ompA strain, the Ab169ompAD268A mutant tended to form bacterial filaments, indicating the abnormalities in cell division. Moreover, the Ab169 OmpA D268-mediated association to peptidoglycan was required for the manifestation of twitching motility, desiccation resistance, serum-induced killing, adhesion to epithelial cells and virulence in a nematode infection model, although it was dispensable for the uptake of &beta, lactam antibiotics by outer membrane vesicles. Overall, the results of this study demonstrate that the OmpA C-terminal domain-mediated association to peptidoglycan is critical for a number of virulent properties displayed by A. baumannii outside and within the host.

Because of its ability to form biofilms and rapidly acquire resistance to many first-line antibiotics, P. aeruginosa-related infections are typically difficult to cure by traditional antibiotic treatment regimes. Thus, new strategies to prevent and treat such infections are urgently required. PA0833 is a newly identified protective antigen of P. aeruginosa that was identified in a screen using a reverse vaccine strategy in our laboratory. In this study, we further confirmed its protective efficacy in murine sepsis and pneumonia models. Immunization with PA0833 induced strong immune responses and resulted in reduced bacterial loads; decreased pathology, inflammatory cytokine expression and inflammatory cell infiltration; and improved survival. Furthermore, PA0833 was identified as an OmpA C-like protein by bioinformatics analysis and biochemical characterization and shown to contribute to bacterial environmental stress resistance and virulence. These results demonstrate that PA0833 is an OmpA C-like protein that induces a protective immune response in mice, indicating that PA0833 is a promising antigen for vaccine development.

We describe a change in the molecular epidemiology of Chlamydia trachomatis strains involved in an outbreak of rectal lymphogranuloma venereum in France during January 2010-April 2015. Until 2012, the C. trachomatis L2b strain predominated; however, starting in 2013, most cases involved the L2 strain. We also identified 4 genetic L2b ompA variants.

Safety and protective efficacy of recombinant multi-epitopic subunit vaccine (r-AK36) comprising immunodominant antigens from outer membrane proteins (Omp’s) of Klebsiella pneumoniae namely OmpA and OmpK36 was evaluated in mouse model. r-AK36 was highly immunogenic and the hyperimmune sera reacted strongly with native OmpA and OmpK36 proteins from different K. pneumoniae strains. Hyperimmune sera showed cross reactivity with Omp’s of other Gram negative organisms. Humoral responses showed a Th2- type polarized immune response with IgG1 being the predominant antibody isotype. Anti-r-AK36 antibodies showed antimicrobial effect during in vitro MIC testing with values in range of 25-50 µg/ml on different K. pneumoniae strains. The recombinant antigen elicited three-fold higher proliferation of splenocytes from immunized mice indicating possible T-cell clonal proliferation and differentiation into effector cells. Anti-r-AK36 antibodies also exhibited in vitro biofilm inhibition property. Subunit vaccine r-AK36 immunization promoted induction of anti-inflammatory cytokines in immunized mice. When r-AK36 immunized mice were challenged with 3xLD100 dose, ~80 % of mice survived beyond the observation period. Passive antibody administration to naive mice protected them (67 %) against the lethal challenge. Since the targeted OMPs are conserved among all K. pneumoniae serovars and due to the strong nature of immune responses, r-AK36 subunit vaccine could be a safe and cost effective candidate against klebsiellosis.

Background Pasteurella multocida is a Gram-negative bacterium that causes economically significant infections of a broad range of animal species. Pneumonic and septicaemic pasteurellosis caused by this bacterium remain important problems in pigs, cattle, and water buffaloes in Thailand. The aim of this study was to characterise the virulence-associated gene profiles and to develop an OmpA molecular typing scheme for classifying 191 bovine and porcine isolates of P. multocida collected between 1989 and 2012 in Thailand using polymerase chain reactions (PCRs), nucleotide sequencing, and sequence and structural bioinformatics analyses. Results PCR screening successfully characterised the profiles of 25 virulence-associated genes in all isolates. The gene profiles separated these isolates into bovine and porcine clusters based on eight genes (hgbB, hsf1, tadD, nanH, pfhA, plpE, pmHAS, and tbpA). Phylogenetic analyses of the nucleotide and protein sequences corresponding to the ompA gene, which encodes a major outer membrane surface protein, showed two major bovine and porcine clusters. Structural prediction and analysis of the dN/dS ratio revealed four hypervariable extracellular loops of the OmpA transmembrane domains. These four loops were used to develop an OmpA typing scheme. This scheme classified 186 isolates into five major loop sequence types (LST8, LST12, LST15, LST18, and LST19), consistent with the phylogenetic results. The loop regions of the bovine isolates were predicted to be more antigenic than those of the porcine isolates. Thus, molecular evolution of the OmpA proteins could be used to classify P. multocida isolates into different capsular types, host types, and, possibly, pathogenicity levels. Conclusions Together with the virulence-associated gene profiles, the typing reported in this work provides a better understanding of P. multocida virulence. Effective monitoring and potential strain-specific subunit vaccines could be developed based on these loop oligopeptides. Understanding the genetic factors that govern microbe-sediment interactions in aquatic environments is important for water quality management and reduction of waterborne disease outbreaks. Although chemical properties of bacteria have been identified that contribute to initiation of attachment, the outer membrane proteins that contribute to these chemical properties still remain unclear. In this study we explored the attachment of 78 Escherichia coli environmental isolates to corn stover, a representative agricultural residue. Outer membrane proteome analysis led to the observation of amino acid variations, some of which had not been previously described, in outer membrane protein A (OmpA) at 10 distinct locations, including each of the four extracellular loops, three of the eight transmembrane segments, the proline-rich linker and the dimerization domain. Some of the polymorphisms within loops 1, 2, and 3 were found to significantly co-occur. Grouping of sequences according to the outer loop polymorphisms revealed five distinct patterns that each occur in at least 5% of our isolates. The two most common patterns, I and II, are encoded by 33.3 and 20.5% of these isolates and differ at each of the four loops. Statistically significant differences in attachment to corn stover were observed among isolates expressing different versions of OmpA and when different versions of OmpA were expressed in the same genetic background. Most notable was the increased corn stover attachment associated with a loop 3 sequence of SNFDGKN relative to the standard SNVYGKN sequence. These results provide further insight into the allelic variation of OmpA and implicate OmpA in contributing to attachment to corn stover.

Las proteínas transmembranales de organismos tipo rickettsia (OTR) además de participar en el transporte de compuestos esenciales y como receptoras de fagos, desempeñan un papel importante en el proceso de infección sobre organismos de importancia comercial como peces, moluscos y crustáceos. Recientemente se dio a conocer una nueva clasificación de los OTR la cual los divide en cuatro grupos: ancestral, tifo, de la fiebre manchada y transicional. Hasta el momento, solo los grupos tifo y de la fiebre manchada (TG y SFG, por sus siglas en inglés `Typhus Group' y `Spotted Fever Group') han sido reportados como patogénicos de organismos acuáticos. El grupo TG posee en su membrana externa antígenos celulares de superficie tipo 0, 1, 2, 4, 5 (Sca0, Sca1, Sca2, Sca4, Sca5, por sus siglas en inglés Surface cell antigens). Sca0 también es conocido como proteína transmembranal A y Sca5 como proteína transmembranal B (OmpA y OmpB, por sus siglas en inglés `Outer Membrane Protein'). Además se han encontrado en esta membrana externa algunas enzimas llamadas translocasas (Tlc) entre las cuales se encuentran la traslocasa 1, 4 y 5 (Tlc1, Tlc4 y Tlc5). En el grupo SFG también se han detectado estas proteínas con excepción de Sca0. Estas proteínas varían en cuanto a características y funciones. Sin embargo, la información de OTR que afectan organismos acuáticos, no es tan común como en mamíferos terrestres. En esta revisión se hace un análisis del estado del arte del estudio de proteínas transmembranales de OTR en organismos acuáticos y se contrasta con la información reportada respecto a OTR de origen terrestre, con el objetivo de inferir el posible mecanismo de infección de este tipo de patógenos.

Besides participating in the transport of essential compounds and as recipients of phages, transmembrane proteins of rickettsia-like organisms (RLO), play an important role in the infection process of commercially important organisms such as fish, mollusk and crustaceans. Recently a new classification of RLO which divides them into four groups was reported: ancestral, typhus, the spotted fever and transitional. To date, only the typhus (TG) and spotted fever (SFG) groups have been reported as pathogenic of marine organisms. The outer membrane surface of the TG group has antigens type 0, 1, 2, 4, 5 (Sca0, Sca1, Sca2, Sca4, Sca5). Sca0 are also known as outer membrane proteins A (OmpA) and Sca5 as outer membrane proteins B (OmpB). Other outer membrane proteins such as enzymes called translocase (Tlc) have been detected, including translocase 1, 4 and 5 (Tlc1, Tlc4 and Tlc5). All these proteins (except for Sca0) have been detected in the SFG group. These proteins vary in features and functions. However, the information of RLO affecting marine organisms is not as common as that of terrestrial mammals. An analysis of the state of the art on the study of transmembrane proteins of RLO in marine organisms is performed in this review; additionally, the hypothetical infection mechanism of these RLO is inferred by using this information together with that reported of RLO affecting terrestrial organisms.

Aim: The study was carried out to determine the sensitivity and specificity of OmpA gene in Salmonella serovarsthrough PCR.Materials and Methods: Aset of primers were designed targeting the OmpAgene specific for the Salmonella and polymerasechain reaction was standardized using Salomonella Typhimurium as a positive control and as a negative control 4 nonsalmonella cultures such as Campylobacter coli, Arcobacter butzleri, Brucella abortus and E. coli. Sensitivity of the test wasdetermined by serial dilution of genomic DNAof standard S. Typhimurium. The PCR standardized was used for screening 68strains of different serovars of Salmonella.Results: The PCR developed targeting OmpA specific for Salmonella was highly specific in detection of the salmonellaserovar alone and sensitivity was upto 68.8 fg. Atotal of 68 virulent/ natural strains of different serovars of salmonella takenup for the study were positive by OmpAbased PCR.Conclusions: This study reports that, OmpAgene which is conserved among Salmonella serovars can be used for the detectionof Salmonella in food or clinical samples in further studies, with high sensitivity and specificity.
