AIM: To analyse and characterize the pattern of working and mobile phone usage distances (MPUD) for common users of electronic devices and computers. METHODS: Transversal descriptive study consisting of a screening campaign evaluating the visual status of different professionals working with computers or electronic devices more than 2h per day. A total of 100 healthy patients with a mean age of 41.2 (range: 20-62) years were revised and subdivided according to job subgroups. A battery of screening tests was performed to all participants in a single session at the working environment of each of them, including measurement of the working distance (WD), arm length, and MPUD. В статье анализируется статистика преступлений в сфере информационно-коммуникационных технологий; предложен обобщенный механизм проведения следственных действий, направленных на поиск преступных элементов; рассмотрены общие методы, используемые в процессе расследования большинства цифровых преступлений, а также инструменты для каждого типа киберпреступности, доступные для выполнения криминалистической деятельности. На примере типичной следственной ситуации (незаконное списание денежных средств с банковского счета) определена методика расследования указанного преступного деяния. Отмечается, что проведение дальнейших следственных мероприятий возможно как без использования специальных знаний и оборудования, так и с его применением. Проведение следственных мероприятий зависит также от места совершения преступлений. Так, если хищение совершено через банкомат, то при проведении осмотра места совершения преступления не следует ограничиваться осмотром непосредственно места совершения преступления, необходимо обеспечить расширение границ территории осмотра и/или определить новые места осмотра исходя из потенциально-возможных вариантов ухода преступника с места преступления., In the article analyzed the statistics of crimes in the field of information-communications technologies; proposed a generalized mechanism for conducting investigative actions aimed at finding criminal elements; considered the general methods used in the process of investigating most digital crimes, as well as tools for each type of cybercrime available for performing forensic activities. On the example of a typical investigative situation (illegal debit of funds from a bank account), it is determined the methodology for investigating the indicated criminal act. It is noted that further investigative measures are possible both without the use of special knowledge and equipment, and with its use. The conduct of investigative measures also depends on the place where the crimes were committed. So, if the theft is committed through an ATM, then during the inspection of the crime scene, one should not be limited to the inspection of the crime scene itself, it is necessary to expand the boundaries of the inspection territory and / or determine new inspection sites based on the potential options for the criminal's departure from the crime scene.

In this article methods and means of ensuring electromagnetic compatibility were considered, which can be used to reduce the effect of crosstalk between conductors on the device board. We analyzed the causes and mechanism of crosstalk, which can disrupt the correct operation of the device due to a change in the logic level of the signal on the victim conductor due to the effect of crosstalk pickup on it. The simulation of the influence of interference on the signal in the passive line was automated depending with the distance between conductors, the length of the adjacent section of conductors, and conductor materials. For the study, a logical circuit of an electronic device, in particular encoder, and a printed circuit board were built. Experiments were carried out using the following data: conductor thickness of 5, 6 and 1.2 mils, conductor spacing of 5 and 6 mils, adjacent conductor lengths of 4340. 2020, 1620, 1050, 630, 320 and 300 mils, and materials conductors that have different values of specific electrical conductivity: silver (62,500,000 S/m), copper (5950,000 S/m), platinum (10,000,000 S/m), gold (43,000,000 S/m), nickel (15,000,000 S/m), aluminum (35*106 S/m), steel (1400000 S/m). The data on the values of crosstalk were obtained. Research performed at the designed logic circuit electronic device and its circuit board. Были проанализированы причины и механизм возникновения перекрестных помех, которые могут нарушить корректную работу устройства из-за изменения логического уровня сигнала на проводнике-жертве вследствии воздействия на него наводки перекрестной помехи. Было выполнено моделирование влияния помех на сигнал в пассивной линии в зависимости от расстояния между проводниками, длины прилегающего участка проводников, материалов проводников. Для исследования была разработана логическая схема электронного устройства, в частности шифратор, и его печатная плата. Были проведены эксперименты при использовании следующих данных: толщина проводников равная 5, 6 и 1.2 милидюймов, расстояние между проводниками равное 5 и 6 милидюймов, длина прилегающих участков проводников равная 4340, 2020, 1620, 1050, 630, 320 и 300 милидюмов. Также в ходе экспериментов были использованы материалы проводников, которые обладают различными значениями удельной электропроводимости: серебро (62500000 См/м), медь (5950000 См/м), платина (10000000 См/м), золото (43000000 См/м), никель (15000000 См/м), алюминий (35*106 См/м), сталь (1400000 См/м). Были получены данные о величинах перекрестных помех. В ходе выполнения исследований были установлены и подтверждены зависимости увеличения величины значения перекрестных помех от увеличения длины прилегающих участков, уменьшения расстояния между проводниками. Установлено, что материалы проводников, обладающие различной электропроводимостью, не вызывают существенного влияния на величину перекрестной помехи., У даній статті були розглянуті методи і засоби забезпечення електромагнітної сумісності, які можуть застосовуватися для зменшення впливу перехресних перешкод між провідниками на платі пристрою. Було проаналізовано причини і механізм виникнення перехресних перешкод, які можуть порушити коректну роботу пристрою через зміну логічного рівня сигналу на провіднику-жертві внаслідок впливу на нього наведеної перехресної перешкоди. Було виконано моделювання впливу перешкод на сигнал в пасивній лінії в залежності від відстані між ними, довжини прилеглої ділянки провідників, матеріалів провідників. Для дослідження була побудована логічна схема електронного пристрою, зокрема шифратор, і його печатна плата. Були проведені експерименти при використанні таких даних: товщина провідників дорівнює 5, 6 і 1.2 мілідюймів, відстань між провідниками рівна 5 і 6 мілідюймів, довжина прилеглих ділянок провідників дорівнює 4340, 2020, 1620, 1050, 630, 320 і 300 мілідюмів. Також застосовувались матеріали провідників, які мають різні значення питомої електропровідності: срібло (62500000 См/м), мідь (5950000 См/м), платина (10000000 См/м), золото (43000000 См/м), нікель (15000000 См/м), алюміній (35*106 См/м), сталь (1400000 См/м). Дослідження виконувались на спроектованій логічній схемі електронного пристрою і його печатній платі. Були отримані дані про величини наведених перехресних перешкод. В ході виконання досліджень були встановлені і підтверджені залежності збільшення величини значення перехресних перешкод від збільшення довжини прилеглих ділянок, зменшення відстані між провідниками.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the television (TV) viewing and computer and mobile phone usage duration in a community sample of Chinese adults and examine their associations with BMI and obesity.Methods: We conducted a community-based health needs assessment study from February to December 2018 among 2,873 Chinese adults in Nanshan District of Shenzhen, China. We used self-administered questionnaires to collect the data from 24 community health service centers in Nanshan District. The participants individually recorded the time they spent watching TV and using computers and mobile phones. They also answered questions about their sociodemographic and lifestyle factors. We measured their height and weight by using ultrasonic height and weight scales. Then, we calculated and categorized their BMI in accordance with the standards prescribed by the World Health Organization for Asians.Results: Most of the participants were young adults (aged 18–44 years, 74.2%). The overall prevalence of obesity was 15.30%. The prevalence of TV, computer, and mobile phone usage was 75.5, 71.2, and 93.8% in females and 71.1, 75.7, and 94.2% in males, respectively. The youth (18–24 years) and the elderly (65 years or older) had the longest time using mobile phones (3.78 ± 2.51 h) and watching TV programs (2.12 ± 1.38 h), respectively. Longer usage of computers and mobile phones was evident in males (p < 0.05) and participants with a high education level (p < 0.01). The univariate analysis results showed an association between high BMI and obesity and short duration of using computers and mobile phones (all p < 0.05). By contrast, no significant associations were found between the length of TV program viewing and mobile phone usage and BMI (p > 0.05). After we adjusted for potential confounders, we found that computer usage time and the overall usage time of the three electronic devices had an inverse association with BMI (p < 0.05).Conclusions: Mobile phones were the most popular electronic device in Nanshan residents of Shenzhen. Unlike most previous studies, we found an inverse association between screen time and BMI. Nevertheless, scholars should conduct further studies to explore this association. Overall, we strongly encourage the appropriate use of electronic devices.

Green synthesis methods have attracted enormous research interest as replacements for dangerous chemicals due to their abundance and eco-friendliness. The remarkable properties of green synthesized materials include environmental friendliness, high abundance, antimicrobial, antioxidant and biodegradability. The integration of green synthesized materials in electronic devices not only enhances the economic benefit of natural waste resources but also conserves our environment. This review article is dealing with the current research efforts in green synthesized materials trends, challenges and their potential applications in sensors, actuators, energy storage and energy generation.

Мета роботи розробити цифровий частотомір на основі завадостійкого лічильника біноміальних кодів, який здатен працювати в умовах з високим рівнем завад. Вимірювання частоти сигналів дуже часто використовується у виробництві. На результати вимірювання цифрових частотомірів, впливають завади які діють на внутрішні компоненти пристрою, через їх вплив може бути отримане значення яке не відповідає дійсному. Тому актуальним завданням є підвищення завадостійкості компонентів і приладів в цілому. В цифрових частотомірах основним вузлом, що відповідає за точність є лічильник. В більшості випадках в якості лічильника використовують двійкові лічильники, які мають досить прості за будовою, але вони зазвичай не мають пристрою контролю, який здатен виявляти і виправляти помилки, які виникають під впливом електромагнітного випромінювання. Для зменшення впливу завад на результати роботи електронних пристроїв використовують різноманітні методи, серед них: застосування індивідуальних згладжуючих конденсаторів, використання фільтрів, екранування. В даній роботі запропоновано використання лічильника біноміальних кодів, який здатен працювати в умовах з високим рівнем завад. This bachelor thesis deals with the excessive use of modern technologies for the possible origin of sleep disorders in children of older school age. The theoretical part characterises older school age, sleep, sleep disorders, the specifics of sleep in children and adolescents, modern technologies and their impact on human organism and summarises available research related to the impact of using modern technologies on the sleep quality in children. The practical part presents quantitative research examining the influence of excessive use of modern technologies on the possible origin of sleep disorders in children of older school age.

CEL/TEZA: Upowszechnienie technologii informacyjno-komunikacyjnych, czego odzwierciedleniem jest rosnąca dostępność tekstów w cyfrowej formie, jak i urządzeń umożliwiających ich odbiór (laptopów, tabletów, smartfonów), skłania do objęcia badaniami zachowań czytelniczych w kontekście rosnącej popularności e-tekstów i ich nośników. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie wyników badań percepcji i recepcji tekstu czytanego w wersji drukowanej oraz elektronicznej. Autorzy odpowiadają na pytanie badawcze, czy nośnik tekstu wpływa na percepcję tekstu. KONCEPCJA/METODY BADAŃ: Przeprowadzono eksperyment wśród studentów, których zadaniem było przeczytanie tekstu i udzielenie odpowiedzi na pytania związane z jego treścią. Studenci zostali podzielni na cztery grupy: osoby czytające tekst z kartki A4, z 14-calowego laptopa, 6-calowego czytnika e‑booków oraz 5-calowego telefonu komórkowego. WYNIKI I WNIOSKI: Uzyskane wyniki dały podstawy, aby stwierdzić, że nośnik tekstu nie wpływa na sposób percepcji czytanej za jego pośrednictwem treści. ZASTOSOWANIE PRAKTYCZNE: Rezultaty badań mogą być wykorzystane w metodyce pracy nauczycieli akademickich. ORYGINALNOŚĆ/WARTOŚĆ POZNAWCZA: Innowacyjnością podejścia w badaniach zaprezentowanych w artykule jest zastosowanie eksperymentu w celu zebrania materiału poddanego następnie komparatystycznej analizie i interpretacji. W polskojęzycznej literaturze dotyczącej zagadnień recepcji tekstu takie podejście występuje rzadko.

In this article the resonant properties of the plant for the investigation of Ku-band magnetrons’ operation in the low-frequency domain from 100 kHz to 35 MHz were experimentally investigated.Improving the electronic devices’ quality is an important task for Ukrainian scientists. It will increase the duration and reliability of sophisticated equipment based on electronic devices, as well as improve the production economic efficiency in the electronics industry.The most common M-type device, the magnetron, was selected as the studied object. Low-frequency oscillation modes were influenced to the magnetrons’ output spectrum quality. Theses modes can occur in the device itself, as well as in the power supply circuits or be induced from the ether. It is hypothesized that spurious oscillations which may impair the electronic devices output spectrum quality, in particular magnetrons, will be amplified at frequencies which the resonances in the device, the supply circuits, and the system as a whole are observed. The experimental study is aimed to determine the frequency domain of the possible occurrence of these spurious oscillations.The measuring plant for magnetron research consists of a magnetron, a wave type transducer, an absorbent power meter, and a spectrum analyzer. The total error of this setup does not exceed ±4 dB.The resonant properties study of this plant in the low-frequency domain was performed according to the classical scheme of the resonant properties study of oscillating circuits. The total relative error of resonance properties measurements did not exceed ±8 %.As a result of research, it was discovered a pronounced resonant peak of the magnetron supply circuits in the 30 MHz band, magnetron filament circuits have a pronounced resonant peak in the 20 MHz band, the magnetron has two pronounced peaks in the 5 and 20 MHz band and two peaks in the 15 and 35 MHz band, the system as a whole has two pronounced peaks in the 10 and 30 MHz band., В статье экспериментально исследованы резонансные свойства установки для исследования магнетронов двух-сантиметрового диапазона длин волн в низкочастотном диапазоне от 100 кГц до 35 МГц.В качестве объекта исследования выбран наиболее распространенный прибор М-типа — магнетрон. На качество выходного спектра магнетронов влияют низкочастотные моды колебаний, которые могут возникать как в самом приборе, так и в цепях питания или наводиться из эфира. Предполагается, что паразитные колебания, ухудшающие качество выходного спектра электронных приборов, усиливаются на частотах, на которых наблюдаются резонансы в приборе, цепях питания и системе в целом.Измерительная установка состоит из магнетрона, преобразователя типов волн, ваттметра поглощающей мощности и анализатора спектра. Общая погрешность этой установки не превышает 4 дБ.Исследование резонансных свойств этой установки в низкочастотном диапазоне длин волн проводилось по классической схеме измерения резонансных свойств колебательных контуров. Общая относительная погрешность измерений не превышала ±8 %.В результате проведения исследований обнаружен ярко выраженный резонансный пик цепей питания маг-нетрона в районе 30 МГц, цепи питания накала магнетрона имеют ярко выраженный резонансный пик в районе 20 МГц, магнетрон имеет два ярко выраженных пика в районе 5 и 20 МГц и два пика значительно меньшей амплитуды в районе 15 и 35 МГц, система в целом имеет два ярко выраженных пика в районе 10 и 30 МГц., У статті експериментально досліджено резонансні властивості установки для дослідження роботи магнетронів двосантиметрового діапазону довжин хвиль у низькочастотному діапазоні від 100 кГц до 35 МГц.Поліпшення якості електронних приладів є важливим завданням для науковців України, оскільки воно забезпечить підвищення тривалості та надійності функціонування складної апаратури на базі електронних приладів, а також сприятиме підвищенню економічної ефективності виробництва в електронній промисловості.Як об’єкт дослідження було обрано найбільш розповсюджений прилад М-типу — магнетрон. На якість вихідного спектра магнетронів впливають низькочастотні моди коливань, які можуть виникати як у самому приладі, так і в ланцюгах живлення або наводитися з етеру. Висунуто гіпотезу, що паразитні коливання, які можуть погіршувати якість вихідного спектра електронних приладів, зокрема магнетронів, будуть підсилюватися на частотах, за яких спостерігаються резонанси у приладі, ланцюгах живлення і системі в цілому. Експериментальне дослідження спрямовано на визначення частотних діапазонів можливого виникнення цих паразитних коливань.Вимірювальна установка для дослідження роботи магнетронів складається з магнетрона, перетворювача типів хвиль, ватметра поглинаючої потужності та аналізатора спектра. Загальна похибка цієї установки не перевищує 4 дБ.Дослідження резонансних властивостей цієї установки у низькочастотному діапазоні довжин хвиль відбувалося за класичною схемою дослідження резонансних властивостей коливальних контурів. Загальна відносна похибка вимірювань резонансних властивостей не перевищувала ±8 %.У результаті проведення досліджень виявлено яскраво виражений резонансний пік ланцюгів живлення магнетрона в районі 30 МГц, ланцюги живлення розжарення магнетрона мають яскраво виражений резонансний пік у районі 20 МГц, магнетрон має два яскраво виражених піки в районі 5 і 20 МГц та два піки значно меншої амплітуди в районі 15 і 35 МГц, система в цілому має два яскраво виражених піки в районі 10 і 30 МГц.

[ES] En este trabajo se realiza un análisis sobre la industria electrónica actual para determinar cuáles son los principales costes económicos y temporales a la hora de desarrollar un nuevo dispositivo electrónico. Partiendo de esta base, y teniendo en cuenta los nuevos métodos de desarrollo originados con la última revolución industrial, se realiza una guía de diseño de circuitos electrónicos para llevar un producto a la fase de producción con los menores costes posibles. Esta guía comienza por la etapa del análisis de las especificaciones técnicas, continua por la selección de componentes y la creación de librerías para herramientas EDA y termina con el diseño de los esquemáticos y de la PCB. Por último, se explican los procesos de fabricación y ensamblado. Todo el proceso de diseño se explica utilizando como ejemplo una placa base de un dispositivo electrónico modular., [EN] This work carries out an analysis of the current electronic industry to determine what are the main economic and temporary costs when developing a new electronic device. Starting from this base, and taking into account the new development methods originated in the last industrial revolution, an electronic circuit design guide is carried out to take a product to the production phase while minimizing costs. This guide begins at the stage of the analysis of the technical specifications, continues with the selection of components and the creation of libraries for EDA tools and ends with the design of schematics diagrams and PCB. Finally, the manufacturing and assembly processes are explained. The entire design process is explained using as an example a carrier board of a modular electronic device.

The environmental monitoring in animal facilities that includes collected data storage in a robust, practical and feasible way is a constant challenge. The aim of this study was to develop a reliable data logger for monitoring the air temperature and air relative humidity of aviaries and to assess the adequacy of the design using commercially available reference standard instruments. The experimental data logger was installed together with a commercial data logger, a mercury thermometer and a calibrated Vaisala HMP110 air relative humidity probe in a meteorological shelter. Linear regression analysis was performed with the collected air temperature and air relative humidity to develop calibration equations. The Nash-Sutcliffe Index and the relative error were calculated to validate the experimental data logger. The air temperature and the air relative humidity calibration equations presented Nash-Sutcliffe of 0.993 and -0.281 for the commercial data logger, and 0.913 and 0.932 for the experimental data. The mean relative error of the air temperature readings was 3 and 1% and for air relative humidity 5 and 20%, for the experimental and commercial logger, respectively. The experimental data logger reliably stored all collected data without error to the micro-SD card. The experimental data logger can be considered low-cost and sufficiently accurate for monitoring air temperature and air relative humidity in aviaries, presenting field performance very close to the commercial data logger for air temperature measurement, and better performance than the commercial data logger for the measurement of air relative humidity. RESUMO O monitoramento ambiental em instalações animais, que inclui o armazenamento de dados coletados de forma robusta, prática e viável, é um desafio constante. O objetivo deste estudo foi desenvolver um data logger confiável para monitorar a temperatura e umidade relativa do ar dos aviários e avaliar a adequação do projeto usando instrumentos padrão de referência comercialmente disponíveis. O data logger experimental foi instalado junto com um data logger comercial, um termômetro de mercúrio e uma sonda de umidade relativa do ar calibrada Vaisala HMP110 em um abrigo meteorológico. A análise de regressão linear foi realizada com a temperatura e a umidade relativa do ar coletadas, para desenvolver equações de calibração. O índice Nash-Sutcliffe e o erro relativo foram calculados para validar o data logger experimental. As equações de calibração de temperatura do ar e de umidade relativa do ar apresentaram Nash-Sutcliffe de 0,993 e -0,281 para o data logger comercial e, 0,913 e 0,932 para o data logger experimental. O erro relativo médio das leituras de temperatura do ar foi de 3 e 1% e da umidade relativa do ar 5 e 20%, para o data logger experimental e comercial, respectivamente. O data logger experimental armazenou de forma confiável todos os dados coletados, sem erro, no cartão micro-SD. O data logger experimental pode ser considerado de baixo custo e suficientemente preciso para monitoramento da temperatura do ar e da umidade relativa do ar em aviários, apresentando desempenho de campo muito próximo ao data logger comercial para medição da temperatura do ar e melhor desempenho que o data logger comercial para medição da umidade relativa do ar.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of display devices （paper and electronic） and font on readingperformance and impression evaluation. 28 university students participated in 2（paper / electronic）×2（ normal font /special font） between design experiment. Dependent variables were reading performance （reading time / degree tounderstand the contents） and impression evaluation. As a result, there was no significant in reading performance dependingon display devices and fonts. Participants had a favorable impression of the paper device rather than the electronicdevice, and the normal font had a preferable impression than the special font. Participants who like paper device preferredspecial fonts, and participants who like electronic device liked regular fonts. Based on above results, in reading, unfamiliardisplay device and font lead to undesirable impressions, but it was discussed that combinations of familiar fonts and displaydevice with unfamiliar fonts and display device caused dishabituation., 本研究の目的は、表示媒体（紙と電子媒体）とフォントが、読みの作業成績と印象評価に与える影響を分析することであった。大学生28名が、表示媒体（紙媒体・電子書籍）とフォント（通常フォント・特殊フォント）を独立変数、作業成績（読み時間・内容理解度）と印象評価を従属変数とする2 要因参加者間計画の実験に参加した。その結果、いずれの表示媒体とフォントにおいても作業成績に有意な差は認められなかった。実験参加者は、電子書籍よりも紙媒体を好ましいと評価し、特殊フォントよりも通常フォントを好ましいと評価した。紙媒体を好むほど特殊フォントを好み、電子書籍を好むほど通常フォントを好むことが明らかとなった。以上の結果から、読書において、不慣れな表示媒体やフォントは好ましくない印象につながるが、慣れたフォントや表示媒体に不慣れなそれらを組み合わせることで脱馴化が生じる可能性が議論された。

The methodology, developed for active testing of electronic devices under the radiations, is presented. The test set-up includes a gamma-ray facility, the hardware board/fixtures and the software tools purposely designed and realized. The methodology is so wide-ranging to allow us the verification of different classes of electronic devices, even if only application examples for static random access memory modules are reported.

The current review aimed to collect and critically analyze the scientific peer-reviewed literature that is available about the use of digital applications for evaluation of visual parameters in electronic devices (tablets and smartphones), confirming if there are studies calibrating and validating each of these applications. Three bibliographic search engines (using the search equation described in the paper) and the Mendeley reference manager search engine were used to complete the analysis. Only articles written in English and that are evaluating the use of tests in healthy patients to measure or characterize any visual function aspects using tablets or smartphones were included. Articles using electronic visual tests to assess the results of surgical procedures or are conducted in pathological conditions were excluded. A total of 19 articles meeting these inclusion and exclusion criteria were finally analyzed. One critical point of all these studies is that there was no mention of the characterization (spatial and/or colorimetrical) of screens and the stimuli used in most of them. Only two studies described some level of calibration of the digital device before the beginning of the study. Most revised articles described non-controlled comparatives studies (73.7%), reporting some level of scientific evidence on the validation of tools, although more consistent studies are needed. Nickel silicide is one of the electrical contact materials widely used on very large scale integration (VLSI) of Si devices in microelectronic industry. This is because the silicide/silicon interface can be formed in a highly controlled manner to ensure reproducibility of optimal structural and electrical properties of the metal-Si contacts. These advantages can be inherited to Si nanowire (NW) field-effect transistors (FET) device. Due to the technological importance of nickel silicides, fundamental materials science of nickel silicides formation (Ni-Si reaction), especially in nanoscale, has raised wide interest and stimulate new insights and understandings. In this dissertation, in-situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM) in combination with FET device characterization will be demonstrated as useful tools in nano-device fabrication as well as in gaining insights into the process of nickel silicide formation. The shortest transistor channel length (17 nm) fabricated on a vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) grown silicon nanowire (NW) has been demonstrated by controlled reaction with Ni leads on an in-situ transmission electron microscope (TEM) heating stage at a moderate temperature of 400 ºC. NiSi2 is the leading phase, and the silicide-silicon interface is an atomically sharp type-A interface. At such channel lengths, high maximum on-currents of 890 (μA/μm) and a maximum transconductance of 430 (μS/μm) were obtained, which pushes forward the performance of bottom-up Si NW Schottky barrier field-effect transistors (SB-FETs). Through accurate control over the silicidation reaction, we provide a systematic study of channel length dependent carrier transport in a large number of SB-FETs with channel lengths in the range of (17 nm - 3.6 μm). Our device results corroborate with our transport simulations and reveal a characteristic type of short channel effects in SB-FETs, both in on- and off-state, which is different from that in conventional MOSFETs, and that limits transport parameter extraction from SB-FETs using the conventional field-effect transconductance measurements. In addition to application of silicide in Si NW devices, the fundamental materials science of Ni-Si reaction is also of interest, and in-situ TEM has been shown to be a useful tool in obtaining dynamical phase transformation information and therefore providing insights into the new phase formation process. By using in-situ TEM techniques, a new gold catalyzed solid-liquid-solid (SLS) silicide phase growth mechanism in Si NWs is observed for the first time, which shows the liquid mediating growth can be also used in synthesis of metallic silicide nanowires. SLS is analogous to the VLS in both being liquid-mediated, but is fundamentally different in terms of nucleation and mass transport. In our SLS growth at 700 ºC, the Ni atoms are supplied from remote Ni particles by interstitial diffusion through Si NW into the pre-existing Au particle at the tip. Upon supersaturation of both Ni and Si in Au, octahedral shape of Ni disilicide phase nucleates in the middle of the Au liquid alloy, which thereafter sweeps through the Si NW and transform Si into NiSi2. Dissolution of Si by Au(Si,Ni) liquid mediating layer and growth of NiSi2 are shown to proceed in different manners.Using in-situ TEM technique, we also have the chance to present direct evidence that Si (111) twin boundaries and Si grain boundaries on Si NW surface can be efficient heterogeneous nucleation site for the silicide growth. By analyzing the nucleation site favorability, unlike other typical FCC materials like Cu or Si, we infer (111) twin defects in NiSi2 may have high interfacial energy. These results may provide valuable insights into the MOSFET source/drain (S/D) contact silicide formation process when defects are either unintentionally formed during the process or intentionally introduced to engineering the strain along the channel.
