Abstract

Dissolved gas in oil analysis is an well established in-service technique for incipient fault detection in oil-insulated power transformers. A great deal of experience and data in dissolved gas in oil analysis (DGA) is now available within the utilities. Actually, diagnostic interpretations were solely done by human experts using past knowledge and standard techniques such as the ratio method. In this paper, a novel fuzzy logic approach is adopted to develop a computer based intelligent interpretation of transformer faults using Visual basic and [C.sup.++] programming. The proposed fuzzy logic based software as been tested and tuned using over 800 dissolved gas in oil analysis (DGA) case histories. This highly reliable tool has then been utilized in detection and verification of 20 transformer faults. The proposed diagnostic tool is very useful to both expert and novice engineers in DGA result interpretation.

Abstract

Cloud computing has become increasingly popular. Many options of cloud deployments are available. Testing cloud performance would enable us to choose a cloud deployment based on the requirements. In this paper, we present an innovative process, implemented in software, to allow us to assess the quality of the cloud performance data. The process combines performance data from multiple machines, spanning across user experience data, workload performance metrics, and readily available system performance data. Furthermore, we discuss the major challenges of bringing raw data into tidy data formats in order to enable subsequent analysis, and describe how our process has several layers of assessment to validate the quality of the data processing procedure. We present a case study to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed process, and conclude our paper with several future research directions worth investigating.

282. Changes of Bladder M1,3 Muscarinic Receptor Expression in Rats Fed with Short‐Term/Long‐Term High‐Fat Diets.

Abstract

Objectives: To investigate the effect of high‐fat diet (HFD) on bladder M1,3 muscarinic receptor expression and contractile function in the rat. Methods: Eight‐week‐old male rats were divided into two groups including one with HFD for 8 weeks (short‐term) and the other for 24 weeks (long‐term). Each group was compared to age‐matched rats fed with normal chow as controls. The body weight, food intake amount and blood biochemistry were monitored. Bladder muscle contractile responses to acetylcholine (0.1–10 μM), bethanechol (10 μM) and KCl (50 mM) were studied in an organ bath set‐up. Bladder M1 and M3 muscarinic receptor protein expressions were measured by Western blotting analysis. Results: Increase in body weight as well as blood triglyceride, cholesterol and sugar levels compared to controls were noted in both 8‐ and 24‐week HFD rats. Eating appetite change with increased food and water intakes was noted in the HFD rats. Significantly decreased bladder contractile responses to acetylcholine and bethanechol were shown in both HFD groups. On the other hand, decreased bladder contractile response to KCl was demonstrated in the 24‐week group but not the 8‐week group. The expressions of bladder M1 and M3 muscarinic receptor proteins were significantly and progressively decreased by HFD feeding from 8 to 24 weeks. Conclusions: High‐fat diet induces obesity and polyphagia in rats. Short‐term and long‐term HFD feeding decrease rat bladder M1 and M3 receptor expressions as well as contractile responses to the agonistic stimulation. 284. Sensitization of silicon by singlet exciton fission in tetracene

Abstract

Silicon dominates contemporary solar cell technologies1. But when absorbing photons, silicon (like other semiconductors) wastes energy in excess of its bandgap2. Reducing these thermalization losses and enabling better sensitivity to light is possible by sensitizing the silicon solar cell using singlet exciton fission, in which two excited states with triplet spin character (triplet excitons) are generated from a photoexcited state of higher energy with singlet spin character (a singlet exciton)3–5. Singlet exciton fission in the molecular semiconductor tetracene is known to generate triplet excitons that are energetically matched to the silicon bandgap6–8. When the triplet excitons are transferred to silicon they create additional electron–hole pairs, promising to increase cell efficiencies from the single-junction limit of 29 per cent to as high as 35 per cent9. Here we reduce the thickness of the protective hafnium oxynitride layer at the surface of a silicon solar cell to just eight angstroms, using electric-field-effect passivation to enable the efficient energy transfer of the triplet excitons formed in the tetracene. The maximum combined yield of the fission in tetracene and the energy transfer to silicon is around 133 per cent, establishing the potential of singlet exciton fission to increase the efficiencies of silicon solar cells and reduce the cost of the energy that they generate. A silicon and tetracene solar cell employing singlet fission uses an eight-angstrom-thick hafnium oxynitride interlayer to promote efficient triplet transfer, increasing the efficiency of the cell.

Abstract

Singlet exciton fission splits one singlet exciton into two triplet excitons. Using a joint analysis of photocurrent and fluorescence modulation under a magnetic field, we determine that the triplet yield within optimized tetracene organic photovoltaic devices is 153% ± 5% for a tetracene film thickness of 20 nm. The corresponding internal quantum efficiency is 127% ± 18%. These results are used to prove the effectiveness of a simplified triplet yield measurement that relies only on the magnetic field modulation of fluorescence. Despite its relatively slow rate of singlet fission, the measured triplet yields confirm that tetracene is presently the best candidate for use with silicon solar cells., United States. Abstract

We present and evaluate a large-scale malware detection system integrating machine learning with expert reviewers, treating reviewers as a limited labeling resource. We demonstrate that even in small numbers, reviewers can vastly improve the system's ability to keep pace with evolving threats. We conduct our evaluation on a sample of VirusTotal submissions spanning 2.5 years and containing 1.1 million binaries with 778GB of raw feature data. Without reviewer assistance, we achieve 72% detection at a 0.5% false positive rate, performing comparable to the best vendors on VirusTotal. Given a budget of 80 accurate reviews daily, we improve detection to 89% and are able to detect 42% of malicious binaries undetected upon initial submission to VirusTotal. Additionally, we identify a previously unnoticed temporal inconsistency in the labeling of training datasets. We compare the impact of training labels obtained at the same time training data is first seen with training labels obtained months later. We find that using training labels obtained well after samples appear, and thus unavailable in practice for current training data, inflates measured detection by almost 20 percentage points. Abstract

There are increasing concerns about possible malicious modifications of integrated circuits (ICs) used in critical applications. Such attacks are often referred to as hardware Trojans. While many techniques focus on hardware Trojan detection during IC testing, it is still possible for attacks to go undetected. Using a combination of new design techniques and new memory technologies, we present a new approach that detects a wide variety of hardware Trojans during IC testing and also during system operation in the field. Our approach can also prevent a wide variety of attacks during synthesis, place-and-route, and fabrication of ICs. It can be applied to any digital system, and can be tuned for both traditional and split-manufacturing methods. We demonstrate its applicability for both ASICs and FPGAs. Using fabricated test chips with Trojan emulation capabilities and also using simulations, we demonstrate: 1. The area and power costs of our approach can range between 7.4-165% and 0.07-60%, respectively, depending on the design and the attacks targeted; 2. The speed impact can be minimal (close to 0%); 3. Our approach can detect 99.998% of Trojans (emulated using test chips) that do not require detailed knowledge of the design being attacked; 4. Our approach can prevent 99.98% of specific attacks (simulated) that utilize detailed knowledge of the design being attacked (e.g., through reverse-engineering). 5.
