We report a case of retroperitoneal hemorrhage due to multiple, small pseudoaneurysms complicating a chronic alcoholic pancreatitis. Cross-sectional imaging with CT and US could not clearly depict these vascular lesions. Selective arteriography of the superior mesenteric and gastroduodenal arteries clearly showed the small pseudoaneurysms and definitive treatment was performed by transcatheter embolization using coils. A 32-year-old woman presented with a pulsatile, painful mass in her left upper arm, originating several days after removal of an Ilizarov external fixation. The diagnosis of a pseudoaneurysm was made by medical history and by physical and ultrasonographic examination of the mass. Angiography confirmed the presence of the pseudoaneurysm, originating from a branch of the arteria profunda brachii, and definitive treatment was performed by transcatheter embolization. Purpose: To describe a combined procedure of repositioning and leaving in situ a central venous catheter followed by immediate percutaneous treatment of associated superior vena cava syndrome (SVCS).Methods: Eight patients are presented who have central venous catheter-associated SVCS (n = 6 Hickman catheters, n = 2 Port-a-cath) caused by central vein stenosis (n = 4) or concomitant thrombosis (n = 4). With the use of a vascular snare introduced via the transcubital or transjugular approach, the tip of the central venous catheter could be engaged, and repositioned after deployment of a stent in the innominate or superior vena cava.Results: In all patients it was technically feasible to reposition the central venous catheter and treat the SVCS at the same time. In one patient flipping of the Hickman catheter in its original position provoked dislocation of the released Palmaz stent, which could be positioned in the right common iliac vein.Conclusion: Repositioning of a central venous catheter just before and after stent deployment in SVCS is technically feasible and a better alternative than preprocedural removal of the vascular access. We describe two cases of hypervascular, endocrine tumors demonstrated by intravenous digital subtraction angiography (IV DSA), the first an insulinoma in the head of the pancreas and the second a pheochromocytoma of the left-side adrenal gland. MRI findings are described in two patients with subdural haematomas isodense on CT. In one patient, admitted 6 weeks after trauma, a chronic subdural haematoma showed extreme hypointensity on T2-weighted images, suggesting acute trauma, and therefore acute rebleeding. In the second patient with severe anaemia, an acute subdural haematoma was hyperintense on T2-weighted images, suggesting chronic trauma; this may be explained by the low haematocrit and a possible mixture of blood with cerebrospinal fluid. The association of an acoustic neuroma with an ipsilateral venous anomaly or angioma is reported in two patients. In the first, the venous angioma was situated low in the posterior fossa, and was of no significance surgically. In the second, the angioma was strongly attached to the capsule of the tumour. On MRI and angiography the lesion appeared as a large draining vein, encircling the tumour. The radiologic findings in a case of an extradural diploic epidermoid tumor (ET) of the frontal bone, examined with plain X rays, CT and MRI, are reported. A head injury with traumatic inclusion of epidermis could have been the origin of the tumor. This report stresses the importance of the plain skull X ray in the diagnosis of extradural ET. Two patients with ruptured intracranial dermoids, examined with both CT and MRI are reported. Clinical presentation was transient cerebral ischemia in one patient and acute meningeal signs in the other. CT scan showed typical fat density of the tumor and the subarachnoid space. We report the case of a 16-year-old patient with osteopetrosis major, complaining of transient sensory and motor disturbances in the left upper limb and diziness on changing the position of his head. Selective angiography of the cerebral vessels showed severe narrowing of the internal carotid artery within the petrous carotid canal and in its supraclinoid portion. The cervical vertebral arteries showed multiple stenosis within the vertebral canal. These findings are explained by narrowing of the basal foramina by the osteopetrotic bone. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The MR findings in an adult patient with globoid cell leucodystrophy (GLD) or Krabbe's disease are presented. MRI showed a bilateral periventricular hyperintensity of the parieto-occipital white matter on the T2-weighted images. A hyperintense signal was seen bilaterally along the corticospinal tract. Atherosclerotic stenosis involving the proximal portion of at least two visceral arteries usually causes symptoms of intestinal ischemia and can lead to massive bowel infarction and death. This report describes a case of chronic proximal occlusion of the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) in a 51-year-old man, successfully treated by local catheter-directed thrombolytic therapy, followed by balloon dilatation and stent placement of the residual atherosclerotic stenosis. At 3 months follow-up, the patient was free of symptoms. This case shows that local thrombolytic therapy, percutaneous transluminal angioplasty and stent placement can be useful in the treatment of chronic atherosclerotic occlusion of the proximal SMA. Typical radiological features of meningioma, such as broad implantation in the dura, strong contrast enhancement and dural tail were associated with characteristics pointing to fatty content: negative density (−80 HU) on CT as well as short T and T on MRI. Magnetic resonance imaging is the most efficient imaging modality to evaluate brain gray and white matter of patients with metabolic diseases [1, 2, 3]. The main purpose of out study was to investigate the relation between brain MRI abnormalities and the phenylalanine (phe) and tyrosine (tyr) blood levels in 38 phenylketonuria (PKU) patients. Increased periventricular white matter intensity on T2-weighted brain images was the only pahtologic finding in 24 patients. Brain MRI abnormalities were scored (4) and correlated with the individual mean phe and phe/ tyr levels during 1 year preceding MR examination and with phe tolerance. We report a case of bilateral synovial cysts at L4-L5 level, examined by myelography, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). On myelography, the lesions appeared as extradural masses. On CT, the lesions were cystic, with calcifiedd walls and were in close proximity to the facet joints. On MRI, the cystic nature of the lesions was confirmed. The wall appeared hypo-intense both on T1- and T2-weighted images (WI), and enhanced after intravenous administration of Gadolinium-DTPA (Gd-DTPA). This enhancement is thought to represent the peripheral fibrous capsule of the lesion and might be of importance both in the detection and the differential diagnosis of these lesions. A case of congenital arteriovenous fistula of the pelvis is described. Arteriovenous malformations of the pelvis are rare and can give rise to problems in diagnosis and treatment. A long history of vague complaints precedes determination of the correct diagnosis.
