This study analyzes an oral performance of the entire Gospel of Mark, with emphasis on involvement with characters and events, the emotional effects of such involvement, and how these processes maintain or shape the identity of those who hear the Gospel. Insights from cognitive poetics and psychonarratology are employed to illuminate the complex, cognitive processes that take place when audience members experience an oral performance of the Gospel. Consequently, this study expands previous research on the Gospel of Mark which was conducted on the basis of narrative criticism, orality criticism, and performance criticism by including cognitive aspects. Cognitive poetics and psychonarratology have to my knowledge not been extensively employed to illuminate an oral performance of the Gospel of Mark previously. This investigation provides: (1) An original, coherent theoretical and methodological framework; (2) An analysis of mechanisms which promote involvement with characters and events in the Markan narrative; (3) An examination of the prospective emotional effects of such involvement; (4) Reflections on the potential of these mechanisms with regard to identity maintenance or formation through cultural memory; (5) A cognitive poetic commentary on the entire Gospel of Mark.

This volume contains a selection of papers presented at an international meeting on the works of Kelemen Mikes which was held in Budapest in October 2011. Mikes was one of the most distinguished authors of the Enlightenment period in Hungary. His main work, the Letters from Turkey is a remarkable example of the 18th century European epistolary fiction. His works include the Hungarian translations of twelve French texts, for example the novels of Mme de Gomez and other important works on ethics, Biblical exegesis, historiography and theology. The volume focuses on the phenomenology of the relations of a writer living in exile with the foreign culture. The articles show how the bi- or multinational question-answer game transformed into intertextuality and how the intercultural reception interests have been integrated into it. The language of Mikes shows a wide range of the social and functional versions; therefore it is possible to examine the linguistic and stylistic aspects of his texts as well as set them in a theoretical framework for the analysis of the translations. This historic catalogue documents the oriental manuscripts of what is now the Saxon State Library at the Dresden University of Technology. Formerly the Royal Library of Dresden, this repository houses numerous manuscripts from antiquity. Catalogued before the tragic bombing of Dresden during WWII, this historic record, written in Latin, briefly describes the nearly 600 documents in the collections of Dresden and Guelferbytan at that time. Valued more as a historical memento, this catalogue provides a sense of importance of the manuscripts housed in the library of the early 19th century capital of Saxony. Asbestos is a naturally occurring silicate mineral with long, thin fibrous crystals. It is known as the miracle mineral because of its soft and pliant properties, as well as its ability to withstand heat. Asbestos is known to be toxic and the inhalation of asbestos can be potentially lethal. Since the mid 1980s, many uses of asbestos have been banned in several countries. Tales from a Charmed Life is the last in a trilogy of works by Hildred Geertz exploring the complexity of Balinese history, religion, and society.
