Domestication of new candidate species remains a long and difficult process often resulting in unfruitful attempts. Early steps in most domestication programmes often consider species as a unity, disregarding a part of the biodiversity: the wild intraspecific geographic differentiation. Yet, this differentiation can shape local specificities, which could lead to different domestication predisposition or socio‐economic attractiveness between populations. Therefore, considering this population‐specific potential could facilitate domestication and subsequent production of new candidate species. Here, we propose a three‐step integrative approach to standardise and facilitate new domestication attempts by taking advantage of wild geographic differentiation. Step 1 consists of classifying the wild biodiversity to identify prospective units (i.e. groups of differentiated allopatric populations). Step 2 allows comparing performances of these units in standardised conditions (i.e. rearing system) through a multifunction and multi‐trait assessment. Finally, step 3 highlights units with higher aquaculture potentials through the calculation of an aquaculture potential score. Background: Patient safety, morbidity, and mortality are directly correlated with interprofessional collaboration among health care practitioners. TeamSTEPPS offers a standardized curriculum for interprofessional teamwork training that can be incorporated into prelicensure education. This article describes the current state of the science related to the quantitative literature exploring the outcomes of TeamSTEPPS training in prelicensure health care practitioner students' education. Method: The Whittemore's and Knafl's method guided this integrative review. The CINAHL and PubMed databases were queried and ancestral searches of the reference lists of all retrieved articles were conducted. Results: Nine quantitative research studies were identified for inclusion in this integrative review. Conclusion: The available literature suggests that using TeamSTEPPS within prelicensure education supports the development of teamwork knowledge and attitudes in interdisciplinary health care practitioner students. Most of the reviewed studies focused on nursing and medical students; thus, further research is needed on allied health care practitioner students. From the perspective of the preparation of a DNA-based nanowire containing an array of metal ions, DNA-polymerase-catalyzed primer extension reactions were investigated and the formation of up to ten consecutive T–HgII–T base pairs was achieved by the HgII-mediated primer extension reaction in the presence of MnII ions. We formulate and systematically study a deterministic compartmental model of Hepatitis B. This model has some important and novel features compared with the well-known basic model in the literature. Specifically, it takes into account the differential susceptibility that follows the vaccine formulation employing three-doses schedule. It points up the HbeAg status of carriers, their levels of viral replication, the fact that treatment being not curative is recommended only to a small proportion of chronic carriers, and finally the fact that only inactive carriers are able to recover from disease. The model has simple dynamical behavior which has a globally asymptotically stable disease-free equilibrium when the basic reproduction number ℛ 0 ≤ 1 and an endemic equilibrium when ℛ 0 > 1. By the use of Lyapunov functions, when it exists, we prove the global asymptotic stability of the endemic equilibrium under some conditions. Using data from Tokombere, a rural area in Cameroon, numerical simulations are performed. These numerical simulations first confirm analytical results, second they suggest that a policy based on treatment could not significantly impact the course of the infection. Third, they show as it is well known that vaccination is a very effective measure to control the infection. Furthermore, they show that neonatal vaccination influences more the course of infection than mass vaccination strategy. Nevertheless, they picture how much loss between consecutive doses of vaccine could be harmful. Finally, it is suggested that for a Sub-saharan African rural area, two-thirds of expected incidence of Hepatitis B virus infection and one third of expected prevalence of chronic carriers could be averted by 2030 if the birth dose vaccination becomes systematic and if mass vaccination rate increases to up 10%. Recent observational studies of γ-ray emission from massive globular clusters (GCs) have revealed possible evidence of dark matter (DM) annihilation within GCs. It is, however, still controversial whether the emission comes from DM or from millisecond pulsars. We here present the new results of numerical simulations, which demonstrate that GCs with DM can originate from nucleated dwarfs orbiting the ancient Milky Way. The simulated stripped nuclei (i.e. GCs) have the central DM densities ranging from 0.1 to several M⊙ pc−3, depending on the orbits and the masses of the host dwarf galaxies. However, GCs born outside the central regions of their hosts can have no/little DM after their hosts are destroyed and the GCs become the Galactic halo GCs. These results suggest that only GCs originating from stellar nuclei of dwarfs can possibly have DM. We further calculate the expected γ-ray emission from these simulated GCs and compare them to observations of ω Cen. Given the large range of DM densities in the simulated GCs, we suggest that the recent possible detection of DM annihilation from GCs should be more carefully interpreted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Reducing the extent of secondary degeneration following spinal cord injury (SCI) is necessary to preserve function, but treatment options have thus far been limited. A combination of the ion channel inhibitors Lomerizine (Lom), YM872 and oxATP, to inhibit voltage-gated Ca2+ channels, Ca2+ permeable AMPA receptors, and purinergic P2X7 receptors respectively, effectively limits secondary consequences of injury in in vitro and in vivo models of CNS injury. Here, we investigated the efficacy of these inhibitors in a clinically relevant model of SCI. Fischer (F344) rats were subjected to a moderate (150 kD) contusive SCI at thoracic level T10 and assessed at 2 weeks or 10 weeks post-injury. Lom was delivered orally twice daily and YM872 and oxATP were delivered via osmotic mini-pump implanted at the time of SCI until 2 weeks following injury. Open field locomotion analysis revealed that treatment with the three inhibitors in combination improved the rate of functional recovery of the hind limb (compared to controls) as early as 1-day post-injury, with beneficial effects persisting to 14 days post-injury, while all three inhibitors were present. At 2 weeks following combinatorial treatment, the functional improvement was associated with significantly decreased cyst size, increased immunoreactivity of β-III tubulin+ve axons, myelin basic protein, and reduced lipid peroxidation by-products, and increased CC1+ve oligodendrocytes and NG2+ve/PDGFα+ve oligodendrocyte progenitor cell densities, compared to vehicle-treated SCI animals. The combination of Lom, oxATP, and YM872 shows preclinical promise for control of secondary degeneration following SCI, and further investigation of long-term sustained treatment is warranted. Background: Rapid Response Team (RRT) calls are clinical crises. Clinical and time pressures can hinder effective liaison between staff who call the RRT ('users') and those responding as part of the RRT ('members'). Non-technical skills (NTS) training has been shown to improve communication and cooperation but requires time and financial resources that may not be available in acute care hospitals. Rapid Response System (RRS) re-design, aiming to promote use of NTS, may provide an alternative approach to improving interactions within RRTs and between members and users.Methods: Re-design of an existing mature RRS was undertaken in a tertiary, metropolitan hospital incorporating the addition of: 1) regular RRT meetings 2) RRT role badges and 3) a structured member-to-user patient care responsibility "hand-off" process. To compare experiences and perceptions of calls, users and members were surveyed pre and post re-design.Results: Post re-design there were improvements in members' understanding of RRT roles (P = 0.03) and responsibilities (P < 0.01), and recollection of introducing themselves to users (P = 0.02). For users, after the re-design, there were improvements in identification of the RRT leader (P < 0.01), and in the development of clinical plans for patients remaining on the ward at the end of an RRT call (P < 0.01). However, post-re-design, fewer users agreed that the structured hand-off was useful or that they should be involved in the process. Both members and users reported fewer experiences of conflict at RRT calls post-re-design (both P < 0.01).Conclusion: The RRS re-design yielded improvements in interactions between members in RRTs and between RRT members and users. However, some unintended consequences arose, particularly around user satisfaction with the structured hand-off. These findings suggest that refinement and improvement of the RRS is possible, but should be an ongoing iterative effort, ideally supported by staff training.Trial Registration: NCT01551160. Hydrothermal venting is rather prevalent in many marine areas around the world, and marine shallow vents are relatively abundant in the Mediterranean Sea, especially around Italy. However, investigations focusing on the characterization of meiofaunal organisms inhabiting shallow vent sediments are still scant compared to that on macrofauna. In the present study, we investigated the meiobenthic assemblages and nematode diversity inhabiting the Secca delle Fumose (SdF), a shallow water vent area located in the Gulf of Naples (Italy). In this area, characterized by a rapid change in the environmental conditions on a relative small spatial scale (i.e., 100 m), we selected four sampling sites: one diffusive emission site (H); one geyser site (G) and two inactive sites (CN, CS). Total meiofauna abundance did not vary significantly between active and inactive sites and between surface and deeper sediment layers due to a high inter-replicate variability, suggesting a pronounced spatial-scale patchiness in distribution of meiofauna. Nematofauna at site H presented the typical features of deep-sea vents with low structural and functional diversity, high biomass and dominance of few genera (i.e., Oncholaimus; Daptonema) while from site G we reported diversity values comparable to that of the inactive sites. We hypothesized that site G presented a condition of “intermediate disturbance” that could maintain a high nematode diversity. Environmental features such as sediment temperature, pH, total organic carbon and interstitial waters ions were found to be key factors influencing patterns of meiofauna and nematofauna assemblages at SdF. Even though the general theory is that nematodes inhabiting shallow vent areas include a subset of species that live in background sediments, this was not the case for SdF vent area. Due to a marked change in nematode composition between all sites and to the presence of many exclusive species, every single investigated site was characterized by a distinct nematofauna reflecting the high spatial heterogeneity of SdF. Automatically detecting animal signals in soundscape recordings is of benefit to passive acoustic monitoring programs which may be undertaken for research or conservation. Numerous algorithms exist, which are typically optimized for certain situations (i.e., certain animal sound types and ambient noise conditions). Adding to the library of algorithms, this paper developed, tested, and compared three detectors for Omura's whale vocalizations (15–62 Hz; <15 s) in marine soundscape recordings which contained noise from other animals, wind, earthquakes, ships, and seismic surveys. All three detectors were based on processing of spectrographic representations. The specific methods were spectrogram cross-correlation, entropy computation, and spectral intensity "blob" tracing. The latter two were general-purpose detectors that were adapted for detection of Omura's whale vocalizations. Detector complexity and post-processing effort varied across the three detectors. Performance was assessed qualitatively using demonstrative examples, and quantitatively using Receiver-Operating Characteristics and Precision-Recall curves. While the results of quantitative assessment were dominated by the spectrogram cross-correlation method, qualitative assessment showed that all three detectors offered promising performance. Diffusible ions (Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Cl–) are vital for healthy function of all cells, especially brain cells. Unfortunately, the diffusible nature of these ions renders them difficult to study with traditional microscopy in situ within ex vivo brain tissue sections. This mini-review examines the recent progress in the field, using direct elemental mapping techniques to study ion homeostasis during normal brain physiology and pathophysiology, through measurement of ion distribution and concentration in ex vivo brain tissue sections. The mini-review examines the advantages and limitations of specific techniques: proton induced X-ray emission (PIXE), X-ray fluorescence microscopy (XFM), secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS), laser-ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS), and the sample preparation requirements to study diffusible ions with these methods. Healthcare professionals' attitudes play a significant role in influencing team behavior, and thereby affect the quality and safety of patient care. Culturally adapted and validated questionnaires may contribute valuable knowledge of professionals' attitudes toward teamwork. The aim of the study was to translate and cross-validate the TeamSTEPPS Teamwork Attitude Questionnaire (T-TAQ) into Norwegian, and to test the questionnaire for psychometric properties among Norwegian healthcare professionals. The T-TAQ, measuring five dimensions of attitude towards teamwork, was translated according to a model of back translation. Healthcare professionals (N = 247) from various hospital settings responded. A Pearson correlation coefficient, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), test–retest reliability, Cronbach's alpha, and McDonald's omega were conducted. The inter-correlation test of the T-TAQ dimensions ranged from 0.16 to 0.54. The CFA showed a Root Mean Square Error of Approximation of (RMSEA) = 0.061. Test-retest showed Intraclass Correlation Coefficient scores from 0.73 to 0.86, with Cronbach's alpha and McDonald's omega demonstrating values from 0.53 to 0.76 (alpha) and 0.57 to 0.76 (omega) on the five dimensions. The Norwegian version of T-TAQ revealed potential concerning the psychometric property for measuring healthcare professionals' attitudes toward teamwork in hospital settings. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to discuss a unique leadership curriculum developed at the University of Florida and its impact on the leadership skills and values of the anesthesiology residents since its conception. The authors instituted a voluntary anesthesiology residency leadership development program at their institution to fill a perceived gap in leadership training. Mounting evidence reveals that strong clinical leadership skills improve outcomes for patients and health-care institutions. Additionally, this growing body of literature indicates that optimal outcomes result from effective team behaviors and skills, which are directed through the requisite clinical leadership. Unfortunately, adding leadership training into the existing medical education curriculum is a formidable challenge regardless of the level of learner. Design/methodology/approach: To evaluate learners, the authors used the Aspiring leaders in Healthcare-Empowering individuals, Achieving excellence, Developing talents instrument, which is a validated and reliable assessment of leadership competency in health-care professionals. In 2017, the authors surveyed the past five graduating classes from the department (classes of 2012-2016), using the two graduating classes before the program's implementation as a historical control group. Findings: The survey was sent to 96 people, of whom 70 responded (73 per cent). Those participants who usually or always participated in the program responded with higher leadership-readiness skills scores than those who occasionally, rarely or never participated in the program. Notably, those who had participated in another leadership development course at any time had higher skills scores than those who had never participated. Originality/value: The study's data provide evidence that residents who either, often or always participated in the leadership development program perceived themselves to be better equipped to become effective health-care leaders as opposed to residents who never, rarely or occasionally participated. Objective: To investigate the characteristics of hip fractures in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Methods: Between 2012 and 2015, 789 hip fractures were treated at our hospital. Patients with RA were checked and their characteristics were compared with data recorded 10 years before, and with the general population. Results: There were 11 patients with RA, who were all female, and the mean age was 76 ± 7.0 years. The age at the time of hip fracture was 4 years older than that recorded 10 years before (72 ± 4.5 years, p<.05), but was younger than that of the general population (84 ± 8.0 years, p<.001). The mean prednisolone dose of 2.5 ± 2.6mg/day was lower than that recorded 10 years before (4.8 ± 2.9mg/day, p<.05). The rate of patients treated with anti-osteoporotic medications at fracture (73%) was higher than 10 years before (42%); however, the difference was not significant. The incidence of secondary fracture was not high compared to the general population. No mortality was recorded at 1 year, and no infective complications occurred. Pulsar timing array (PTA) collaborations in North America, Australia, and Europe, have been exploiting the exquisite timing precision of millisecond pulsars over decades of observations to search for correlated timing deviations induced by gravitational waves (GWs). PTAs are sensitive to the frequency band ranging just below 1 nanohertz to a few tens of microhertz. The discovery space of this band is potentially rich with populations of inspiraling supermassive black hole binaries, decaying cosmic string networks, relic post-inflation GWs, and even non-GW imprints of axionic dark matter. This article aims to provide an understanding of the exciting open science questions in cosmology, galaxy evolution, and fundamental physics that will be addressed by the detection and study of GWs through PTAs. The focus of the article is on providing an understanding of the mechanisms by which PTAs can address specific questions in these fields, and to outline some of the subtleties and difficulties in each case. The material included is weighted most heavily toward the questions which we expect will be answered in the near-term with PTAs; however, we have made efforts to include most currently anticipated applications of nanohertz GWs. The discovery of radio pulsars over a half century ago was a seminal moment in astronomy. It demonstrated the existence of neutron stars, gave a powerful observational tool to study them, and has allowed us to probe strong gravity, dense matter, and the interstellar medium. More recently, pulsar surveys have led to the serendipitous discovery of fast radio bursts (FRBs). While FRBs appear similar to the individual pulses from pulsars, their large dispersive delays suggest that they originate from far outside the Milky Way and hence are many orders-of-magnitude more luminous. While most FRBs appear to be one-off, perhaps cataclysmic events, two sources are now known to repeat and thus clearly have a longer lived central engine. Beyond understanding how they are created, there is also the prospect of using FRBs—as with pulsars—to probe the extremes of the Universe as well as the otherwise invisible intervening medium. Such studies will be aided by the high-implied all-sky event rate: there is a detectable FRB roughly once every minute occurring somewhere on the sky. The fact that less than a hundred FRB sources have been discovered in the last decade is largely due to the small fields-of-view of current radio telescopes. A new generation of wide-field instruments is now coming online, however, and these will be capable of detecting multiple FRBs per day. We are thus on the brink of further breakthroughs in the short-duration radio transient phase space, which will be critical for differentiating between the many proposed theories for the origin of FRBs. The onset of neurodegenerative diseases activates inflammation that leads to progressive neuronal cell death and impairments in cognition (Alzheimer's disease) and sight (age-related macular degeneration [AMD]). How neuroinflammation can be counteracted is not known. In AMD, amyloid β-peptide (Aβ) accumulates in subretinal drusen. In the 5xFAD retina, we found early functional deficiencies (ERG) without photoreceptor cell (PRC) death and identified early insufficiency in biosynthetic pathways of prohomeostatic/neuroprotective mediators neuroprotectin D1 (NPD1) and elovanoids (ELVs). To mimic an inflammatory milieu in wild-type mouse, we triggered retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) damage/PRC death by subretinally injected oligomeric β-amyloid (OAβ) and observed that ELVs administration counteracted their effects, protecting these cells. In addition, ELVs prevented OAβ-induced changes in gene expression engaged in senescence, inflammation, autophagy, extracellular matrix remodeling, and AMD. Moreover, as OAβ targets the RPE, we used primary human RPE cell cultures and demonstrated that OAβ caused cell damage, while ELVs protected and restored gene expression as in mouse. Our data show OAβ activates senescence as reflected by enhanced expression of p16INK4a, MMP1, p53, p21, p27, and Il-6, and of senescence-associated phenotype secretome, followed by RPE and PRC demise, and that ELVs 32 and 34 blunt these events and elicit protection. In addition, ELVs counteracted OAβ-induced expression of genes engaged in AMD, autophagy, and extracellular matrix remodeling. Overall, our data uncovered that ELVs downplay OAβ-senescence program induction and inflammatory transcriptional events and protect RPE cells and PRC, and therefore have potential as a possible therapeutic avenue for AMD. Objective: To study the difference in incidence and risk of fragility fractures between rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients followed up early in the disease and the general population in Sweden; and the fracture risk changes in RA patients diagnosed in the 1990s and 2000s because of earlier, more potent pharmacological treatment in the later period.Method: Patients with early RA were recruited from the BARFOT cohort, a Swedish multicentre observational study of early RA patients (n = 2557). All patients fulfilled 1987 American College of Rheumatology criteria and were included between 1992 and 2006. Each patient was matched by gender, age, and residential area with four controls from the general population (n = 10 228). Fractures of forearm, upper arm, and hip were identified by ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes through Swedish national medical registries.Results: During follow-up of 12.9 ± 4.7 years (mean ± sd), 14% (n = 470) of RA patients and 11% (n = 1418) of controls experienced a fracture (p < 0.001). When dividing the patients and controls into two groups according to inclusion period, an 8 year follow-up time was used. RA patients included in the 1990s had a higher incidence rate (IR) of hip and other fractures. RA patients included in the 2000s had a higher IR of all fracture sites. The hazard ratio of fractures was 1.4 in the total RA cohort, and the risk was increased in both the 1990s and 2000s.Conclusion: We observed an increased risk of fragility fractures in RA patients diagnosed in both the 1990s and 2000s, despite patients in the 2000s obtaining potent pharmacological treatment early in the disease. The Southern Ocean represents a continuous stretch of circumpolar marine habitat, but the potential physical and ecological drivers of evolutionary genetic differentiation across this vast ecosystem remain unclear. We tested for genetic structure across the full circumpolar range of the white‐chinned petrel (Procellaria aequinoctialis) to unravel the potential drivers of population differentiation and test alternative population differentiation hypotheses. Following range‐wide comprehensive sampling, we applied genomic (genotyping‐by‐sequencing or GBS; 60,709 loci) and standard mitochondrial‐marker approaches (cytochrome b and first domain of control region) to quantify genetic diversity within and among island populations, test for isolation by distance, and quantify the number of genetic clusters using neutral and outlier (non‐neutral) loci. Our results supported the multi‐region hypothesis, with a range of analyses showing clear three‐region genetic population structure, split by ocean basin, within two evolutionary units. The most significant differentiation between these regions confirmed previous work distinguishing New Zealand and nominate subspecies. Although there was little evidence of structure within the island groups of the Indian or Atlantic oceans, a small set of highly‐discriminatory outlier loci could assign petrels to ocean basin and potentially to island group, though the latter needs further verification. This study aims to reveal connection and implication of molecular structure with nutrient profiles, utilization and bioavailability of both conventional and new co-products from bio-energy and bio-oil processing using grading and vibrational molecular spectroscopy with chemometics including univariate and multivariate techniques. The study focused on strategies to improve the utilization of the conventional and new co-products through chemical and heat processing treatments as well as the relationship of the molecular structural changes to nutrient bioavailability. The updated methods advanced molecular spectroscopy techniques with grading NIR, Globar FTIR, ATR-FTIR and Synchrotron SRFTIRM to study feed molecular structures were reviewed. This study provides an insight and a new approach on how to use grading and vibrational molecular spectroscopy to study molecular chemistry and molecular structure and molecular nutrition interaction. Eurasian perch (Perca fluviatilis) and pikeperch (Sander lucioperca) have been identified as candidates for production in aquaculture with the potential to deliver products of high quality and value and associated market acceptance. Current aquaculture production of these species predominately targets niche, premium markets, and its up-scaling is still limited due to several bottlenecks. This paper summarizes the most important and recent technological aspects and innovations regarding broodstock management, controlled reproduction, larval and early juvenile stages, nursery, and grow-out culture including methods for the improvement of growth and production in percid fishes. Background: Core competencies of intensive care unit (ICU) nurses were defined as the essential capability to influence patient safety and interdisciplinary collaboration; however, there has been no research conducted that relates to core competencies of ICU nurses at Chinese tertiary‐A hospitals in Shanghai. Aims and objectives: To investigate the current state of core competencies and the factors that influence this key capability in ICU nurses in Chinese tertiary‐A hospitals. Design This was a multicentre, cross‐sectional study. Methods: A convenient sampling method was used to investigate 451 ICU nurses at five tertiary‐A hospitals in Shanghai. Data were collected using self‐administered questionnaires. Results: The core competencies of ICU nurses were above average, and the scores of seven dimensions, ranked from first to last, were medical ethics, clinical practice, nurse–nurse co‐operation, assessment and decision‐making, personal and professional development, teaching and research and nurse–physician co‐operation. Multivariate linear regression analysis showed that the factors exerting an influence on the core competencies of ICU nurses were title, role incumbent and ICU department. Conclusion: This study showed an above‐average level of core competencies among ICU nurses in tertiary‐A hospitals in Shanghai; however, competencies related to nurse–physician co‐operation and the translation of research into practice were underdeveloped. Relevance to clinical practice: Nursing managers should implement targeted interventions to improve nurse–physician co‐operation and translate research into practice competencies, such as high‐fidelity simulation, inter‐professional education, scientific research training and innovative skills tutorials. All-trans retinoic acid (ATRA), an active metabolite of vitamin A, plays important roles in cell proliferation, cell differentiation, apoptosis, and embryonic development. The effects of ATRA are mediated by nuclear retinoid receptors as well as non-genomic signal pathway, such as MAPK and PKA. The great success of differentiation therapy with ATRA in acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) not only improved the prognosis of APL but also spurred the studies of ATRA in the treatment of other tumors. Since the genetic and physiopathological simplicity of APL is not common in human malignancies, the combination of ATRA with other agents (chemotherapy, epigenetic modifiers, and arsenic trioxide, etc) had been extensively investigated in a variety of tumors. Little is known about whether a mother's psychological state during pregnancy influences her offspring's microbiome. This study examined whether maternal anxiety, depression, and stress during pregnancy is associated with the diversity of meconium microbiome, the first internal discharge, in 75 newborns from an existing birth cohort study. The meconium microbiome was profiled using multibarcode16S rRNA sequencing at V3‐V4 hypervariable region followed by taxonomic assignment to the green gene 16S references at 97% similarity and diversity analysis at the genus level. Results showed that the meconium contained diversified microbiota, and greater pregnancy‐related anxiety was significantly associated with a less diverse meconium microbiota community (p = 0.001). At the specific taxa level, greater pregnancy‐related anxiety was correlated with a lower level of the Enterococcaceae family (p = 2e‐4, Spearman rho = −0.43). These findings support a significant role of prenatal maternal mood in the early‐life bacteria colonization of their offspring. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Inflammatory rheumatic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) show a striking female predominance ranging from 3:1 in RA up to 9:1 in SLE. The background for those gender bias is not fully understood yet, but seems to be the result of a complex interaction between sex hormones, (epi-)genetics, and possibly even the composition of gut microbiota. Moreover, time of disease onset, the clinical phenotype including co-morbidities as well as the course of the diseases during life differ between genders. The patient's sex therefore plays an emerging role for individual therapy decisions and co-morbidity screening in rheumatologic care. Male lupus patients, for example, tend to show more severe features such as renal involvement, pleurisy, and serositis, when being compared to female patients. Among RA patients, women are more likely to acquire conditions like thyroid dysfunctions, fibromyalgia, and depression than their male counterparts. These examples emphasize the importance of the patient's gender for the clinical routine and the resulting implications for prevention and therapy. The present article is going to review potential causes for the female predominance of rheumatic diseases and will examine the gender's impact on the disease phenotype, symptom severity, co-morbidities, and quality of life. For reasons of scope, the focus will be on RA and SLE as two of the most important rheumatic diseases with a large socioeconomic impact on society due to their incidence as well as mortality. Present review outlines the advances and perspectives of computational 1 H and 13 C NMR applied to the stereochemical studies of inorganic, organic, and bioorganic compounds, involving in particular natural products, carbohydrates, and carbonium ions. The first part of the review briefly outlines theoretical background of the modern computational methods applied to the calculation of chemical shifts and spin-spin coupling constants at the DFT and the non-empirical levels. The second part of the review deals with the achievements of the computational 1 H and 13 C NMR in the stereochemical investigation of a variety of inorganic, organic, and bioorganic compounds, providing in an abridged form the material partly discussed by the author in a series of parent reviews. We report the discovery of a new fast radio burst (FRB), FRB 010312, in archival data from a 1.4 GHz survey of the Magellanic Clouds using the multibeam receiver on the Parkes 64-m-diameter radio telescope. These data sets include the Lorimer burst (FRB 010724), which it pre-dates and which we also re-detect. The new burst has a much higher dispersion measure of 1187 cm−3 pc. The burst is one of the broadest found to date, the second earliest FRB known, and the ninth FRB discovered with a dispersion measure larger than 1000 cm |$^{-3}\,$|  pc. Purpose: The Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety (TeamSTEPPS) program is known to improve team and clinical performance, but the relationship to psychological stress has not been clarified. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate team performance, clinical performance and psychological stress simultaneously in a simulation-based training combined with or without the TeamSTEPPS program.Design/methodology/approach: This randomized, controlled, prospective pilot study was performed to reveal TeamSTEPPS impact on psychological stress. The course included an emergency care training course, the TeamSTEPPS program, and a scenario simulation. Ten medical student teams were randomly allocated two groups: a TeamSTEPPS group and a non-TeamSTEPPS group. Team performance, clinical performance and psychological stress were evaluated simultaneously in the course; i.e., questionnaire evaluation and an observational evaluation for team performance; an assessor's evaluation and a simulator's evaluation for clinical performance. Autonomic nervous activity, represented by salivary amylase levels and heart rate variability, were measured as psychological stress indicators.Findings: Team performance and clinical performance were significantly better in the TeamSTEPPS group, while psychological stress did not differ between the groups.Originality/value: This is the first study to examine the relationship between TeamSTEPPS and psychological stress. Although only preliminary conclusions can be drawn from this small-scale study, results suggest that the TeamSTEPPS program improved team and clinical performance without increasing psychological stress. Several individuals belonging to a new species of the genus Chromadorita (Nematoda: Adenophorea) were collected in a cold-seep area in the Gulf of Guinea during two French cruises: BIOZÄIRE 2 (2001) and BIOZAÏRE 3 (2003-2004) on board the R/V L'Atalante. In this area, rich chemosynthetic benthic communities have been discovered at 3150 m depth in the large pockmark field named Regab. Chromadorita regabi sp. nov. was found among the eggs in ovigerous specimens of the shrimp Alvinocaris muricola. The combination of long size (1500-2200 µm), nine strong preanal papillae and relatively small dorsal tooth with weak musculature distinguishes this species from all known congeneric ones. Two dominant krill species Meganyctiphanes norvegica (Sars, 1857) and Thysanoessa raschii (Sars, 1864) coexist in the subarctic waters of lower St. Lawrence Estuary, Canada. Both species perform diel vertical migrations representing often large displacements of ~100–150 m through several temperature regimes. We studied the impact of temperature, a fundamental factor controlling the metabolism of ectothermic species, on the metabolic rate and swimming activity of the two species. Annular respirometers were used to quantify simultaneously oxygen consumption (Ṁ O2g–1wet mass) and the spontaneous swimming activity of individual krill over a period of 24 h at six temperatures, by intermittent-flow respirometry. Both species significantly increased their low routine and maximal metabolic rates from 0 °C to 15 °C, suggesting high thermal plasticity. The spontaneous swimming activity of M. norvegica was reduced to almost zero at 0 °C, whereas T. raschii swam 1.0 cm s–1at this temperature. Based on swimming performance, M. norvegica might avoid the cold intermediate layer (CIL, < 1 °C) in the estuary, which coincides with actual daytime distribution below the CIL in the warmer deep-water layer. Despite the rare occurrence of 15 °C in the estuary, both species still showed high metabolic and swimming performance at that temperature. High and differential thermal plasticity of both krill species might have important ecological consequences for their distribution patterns in their natural environment, as energy requirements differ in the two species. Effective interprofessional (IP) team-based care is critical to enhance the delivery of efficient care and improve nursing and IP team outcomes. This study aims to review the most recent IP team intervention studies that focused on outcomes related to nursing and IP teams. PubMed, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and Embase were searched for existing literature published between January 2011 and December 2016. The search strategy was developed through both literature review and consultation with a health sciences librarian. This review included IP team intervention studies published in peer-reviewed journals and written in English. Studies were included if they conducted an IP team intervention for healthcare teams that include nurses and examined outcomes related to nursing and the IP teams. Based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, 41 articles were included for the final review. Two authors extracted data on the characteristics of IP team interventions, assessment methods, and their outcomes related to nursing and IP teams using a data abstraction tool developed by the research team. The quality of the included studies was assessed using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool. We found that most of the included studies were conducted in the US and on inpatient units. A quasi-experimental study design was most commonly employed. Most studies conducted IP team training such as TeamSTEPPS® as a one-time activity. The most common outcomes measured were attitudes or perceptions about IP teamwork or communication, followed by patient-related outcomes, and knowledge or skills about IP competencies. The quality of the included studies was generally low. The findings from this review will contribute to understanding the characteristics of current IP intervention studies and call for IP scholars to design more rigorous yet realistic IP intervention studies. Spaniomolgus is a symbiotic genus of copepods of the poecilostomatoid family Rhynchomolgidae and is known to be associated with shallow-water reef-building hermatypic corals. Three species of this genus were previously found only in washings of Acropora and Stylophora in northern Madagascar. Four coral morphotypes of Stylophora pistillata (Pocilloporidae) were collected by SCUBA at 1 to 28 m depth in five sites in the Saudi Arabian Red Sea in 2013. Copepods found on these colonies were studied using light, confocal and scanning electron microscopy. Five new, and one known, species of the genus Spaniomolgus were discovered in washings and inside the galls of the hermatypic coral S. pistillata. The description of these new species (Spaniomolgus globus sp. n., S. stylophorus sp. n., S. dentatus sp. n., S. maculatus sp. n., and S. acutus sp. n.) and a key for the identification of all of its congeners is provided herein. An analysis of patterns in otolith shape is an effective tool for discriminating among fish stocks. Otolith shapes of Patagonian toothfish (Dissostichus eleginoides) and Antarctic toothfish (D. mawsoni) were investigated for geographic variability within seven regions across the Patagonian Shelf, and South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands (SGSSI). Otolith shape was characterised by its elliptical Fourier coefficients (EFCs), corrected for fish length before being analysed, using multivariate methods. Non-metric multidimensional scaling analysis suggested the following three main groupings: Patagonian Shelf, SGSSI, and the third for Antarctic toothfish. This result was supported by ANOVA-like permutation tests, indicating significant (P < 0.001) differences in otolith shape among these three groupings. Linear discriminant analysis (LDA) cross-validation analyses of the EFCs resulted in otoliths being correctly classified to the sampling region from which they came, with an accuracy ranging from 78.95 to 100%. LDA cross-validation analyses on sampling regions within SGSSI and the Patagonian Shelf were able to classify individuals back to their sampling region with an accuracy of greater than 89.74 and 78.95% respectively. These results have provided some alternative insights into the stock structure of Patagonian toothfish across southern South America, South Atlantic and SGSSI. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: One of the most important roles of nurses in the war was the application of management interventions, which led to provide better services for the wounded soldiers. The purpose of this study was to explore the Management behaviors of civilian nurses in the Iran-Iraq war. Materials and Methods: The historical research methodology and thematic analysis using in-depth interviews were applied to gather data. This study was conducted in 2010-2012 in five big cities of Iran, and involved 18 male nurses who were selected by purposeful sampling method. Results: The interviews of the nurses revealed a main category as the management behaviors of the nurses in the war. Six subcategories were obtained, namely call up for the war, establishing emergency teams, managing the therapeutic units, managerial innovation during war operations, teamwork and variety of roles of nurses in the war. Conclusions: This study demonstrated how the nurses adapted to the harsh a situation without any previous experience on management in crises such as wars and increased medical treatment facilities outcome using management principles. Summary: This study is the first meta-analysis investigating the pooled incidence rates of fractures among patients with RA. Our results demonstrated that this population is at high risk of overall and fragility fractures. Consideration of vertebral imaging and RA-specific risk factor assessment may aid in fracture prevention for this vulnerable group.Introduction: This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to estimate the incidence of fractures (overall and fragility) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).Methods: MEDLINE, EMBASE, and CENTRAL were searched for cohort studies reporting incidence of fractures among patients with RA. Two reviewers independently assessed all studies for inclusion and extracted data. Pooled analyses of incidence rates and relative risk of fractures were conducted using a random-effects model. Subgroup analyses investigated potential sources of heterogeneity, and predictors of fractures were summarized.Results: Twenty-five studies were included in total. The pooled incidence rates of overall and fragility fractures were 33.00 (95% CI 18.39-59.21) and 15.31 (95% CI 10.43-22.47) per 1000 person-years, respectively. Patients with RA had a higher risk of overall (RR 1.52, 95% CI 1.07-2.14) and fragility (RR 1.61, 95% CI 1.44-1.79) fractures. Subgroup analyses suggested a higher risk of fragility fractures among female patients (31.03 vs. 23.75 per 1000 person-years). The pooled site-specific incidence rates of vertebral, hip, forearm, and proximal humeral fractures were 7.51 (95% CI 3.27-17.23), 4.33 (95% CI 2.26-8.27), 3.40 (95% CI 2.27-5.10), and 1.86 (95% CI 1.36-2.53) per 1000 person-years, respectively. Clinical vertebral fractures were underestimated compared with radiographic screening (4.29 vs. 42.40 per 1000 person-years). Predictors of fractures included both traditional OP risk factors and RA-specific factors.Conclusions: Patients with RA are at high risk of incident overall and fragility fractures. Public libraries are free and open to all--and accessed at high rates by vulnerable populations--which positions them to be key public health allies. However, library staff themselves often feel ill-equipped to address the health and social concerns of their patrons. To fill this gap, we developed a case-based training curriculum to help library staff recognize, engage, and refer vulnerable patrons to appropriate resources. Topics addressed in the training, including homelessness, mental health and substance use disorders, immigration, and trauma, were selected based on findings from a prior community needs assessment. Using a modified measure of self-efficacy, participants (n = 33) were surveyed before and after each session. Several participants (n = 7) were also interviewed 4 months after the training was completed. Overall, staff reported significant increases in comfort, confidence, and preparedness in assisting vulnerable patrons across all topic areas. Qualitative findings reflected positive perceived impact and value of the trainings. Staff felt training resources should be made more readily accessible. Improving library staff capacity to address the health and social needs of their patrons can further establish public libraries as partners in improving population health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

For human resource managers that want to foster a team learning environment that promotes a way for members to rehearse, experiment, assess, and reflect the practice has to see how the tools can be truly integrated. According to Senge, team learning is a team skill that requires practice fields as a concept for team members to practice together so that they can develop their collective learning skills. This study attempts to extend the work of Senge's theory of a practical field with in-depth information so that the model can be utilized by human resource manager for supporting the discipline of team learning. Literature works are done to revise the four practical precepts. The refined model is applied as a case study methodology on an organization resembling the conceptual procedure. Pulsars are natural cosmic clocks. On long timescales they rival the precision of terrestrial atomic clocks. Using a technique called pulsar timing, the exact measurement of pulse arrival times allows a number of applications, ranging from testing theories of gravity to detecting gravitational waves. Also an external reference system suitable for autonomous space navigation can be defined by pulsars, using them as natural navigation beacons, not unlike the use of GPS satellites for navigation on Earth. By comparing pulse arrival times measured on-board a spacecraft with predicted pulse arrivals at a reference location (e.g. the solar system barycenter), the spacecraft position can be determined autonomously and with high accuracy everywhere in the solar system and beyond. We describe the unique properties of pulsars that suggest that such a navigation system will certainly have its application in future astronautics. We also describe the on-going experiments to use the clock-like nature of pulsars to "construct" a galactic-sized gravitational wave detector for low-frequency ( f G W ∼ 10 − 9 – 10 − 7 Hz) gravitational waves.
