Rove beetle, Paederus fuscipes Curtis is a natural predator of several crop pests in the agriculture ecosystem, however, their high intrusion into human settlements caused them to become public health concern due to Paedarus dermatitis infection among humans. The entomopathogenic effectiveness of Metarhizium anisopliae Mechnikov was tested as biological control towards adults Paederus fuscipes by inoculating on soils. The mortality of P. fuscipes was observed and data were subjected to analysis using ANOVA and Kaplan-Meier method. Results show that P. fuscipes tested with the highest concentration at 1.3 × 1010 conidia/mL exhibited the shortest mean mortality time at 11.0 ± 2.5 days and survival time of 7.6 ± 0.7 days, yet the secondhighest concentration exhibited at 2.2 × 109 showed mean mortality of 18.4 ± 4.2 days and survival time of 11.9 ± 0.8 days. Log Rank (Mantel-Cox) pairwise comparison indicated the significant differences between the highest concentration of 1.3 × 1010 with the control (χ2 = 62.3, df=1 p<0.0005). Both mean mortality time and survival time of P. fuscipes showed inconsistent trends from the highest concentration of M. anisopliae towards the lowest. Pathogenicity was observed at the concentrations of 106, 109, and 1010 after performing Koch's postulates. Background: Most high-throughput screening (HTS) systems studying the cytotoxic effect of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells on tumor cells rely on two-dimensional cell culture that does not recapitulate the tumor microenvironment (TME). Tumor spheroids, however, can recapitulate the TME and have been used for cytotoxicity assays of CAR T cells. But a major obstacle to the use of tumor spheroids for cytotoxicity assays is the difficulty in separating unbound CAR T and dead tumor cells from spheroids. Here, we present a three-dimensional hanging spheroid plate (3DHSP), which facilitates the formation of spheroids and the separation of unbound and dead cells from spheroids during cytotoxicity assays. Results: The 3DHSP is a 24-well plate, with each well composed of a hanging dripper, spheroid wells, and waste wells. In the dripper, a tumor spheroid was formed and mixed with CAR T cells. In the 3DHSP, droplets containing the spheroids were deposited into the spheroid separation well, where unbound and dead T and tumor cells were separated from the spheroid through a gap into the waste well by tilting the 3DHSP by more than 20°. Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive tumor cells (BT474 and SKOV3) formed spheroids of approximately 300–350 μm in diameter after 2 days in the 3DHSP. The cytotoxic effects of T cells engineered to express CAR recognizing HER2 (HER2-CAR T cells) on these spheroids were directly measured by optical imaging, without the use of live/dead fluorescent staining of the cells. Our results suggest that the 3DHSP could be incorporated into a HTS system to screen for CARs that enable T cells to kill spheroids formed from a specific tumor type with high efficacy or for spheroids consisting of tumor types that can be killed efficiently by T cells bearing a specific CAR. In rolling processes, flexible steel sheet is supported by rollers and is bound to produce structural vibration. This vibration can cause severe problems to surface finish and affect the quality of the product. To overcome these problems, active vibration control has been proposed. This usually requires both sensors and actuators. The location of sensors and actuators plays a very important role in active vibration control. Moreover, a reliable sensor can be very expensive. This paper proposes a self-sensing vibration control using a push-pull type electromagnet to control the transverse vibration of the steel plate. The construction of the electromagnet has two types of coils, namely the bias coil and the control coil. Vibration displacement is estimated by using the mutual inductance change between the bias and the control coils. The estimated signal is proportional to the gap displacement. The proportional and derivative signals are fed back to the control coil to reduce the transverse vibration of the steel sheet. The proposed method is applied to a simple test rig to confirm the capability of the device. The results obtained are showing high possibility for reducing steel sheet vibration.

In a survey and three experiments (one preregistered with a nationally representative sample), we examined if vaccination requirements are likely to backfire, as commonly feared. We investigated if relative to encouraging free choice in vaccination, requiring a vaccine weakens or strengthens vaccination intentions, both in general and among individuals with a predisposition to experience psychological reactance. In the four studies, compared to free choice, requirements strengthened vaccination intentions across racial and ethnic groups, across studies, and across levels of trait psychological reactance. The results consistently suggest that fears of a backlash against vaccine mandates may be unfounded and that requirements will promote COVID-19 vaccine uptake in the United States. Background: Young adult sexual minority women (SMW) have unique sexual health needs and higher rates of some poor sexual health outcomes compared to their heterosexual peers. Unequal access to relevant sexual health information may contribute to sexual orientation disparities in sexual health among women, but research on sexual health communication among SMW is sparse. Methods: In-depth interviews conducted in 2016–2017 investigated sexual health communication in a sample of 29 racially/ethnically diverse cisgender women and non-binary individuals assigned female at birth who were between 19 and 36 years of age and identified as a sexual minority. Data were analyzed using a thematic analysis approach that involved inductive and deductive coding to identify themes. Results: Three broad themes were identified: (1) sources of sexual health information, (2) sexual health information needs, and (3) preferences for sexual health information delivery. Participants discussed and critiqued the Internet, other mass media, health care providers, school-based sex education, family, and peers/partners as sources of sexual health information. Participants expressed a need for customized, non-heteronormative information pertaining to sexually transmitted infection risk and prevention. They preferred receiving information from health care providers, the Internet, and other mass media, and some also suggested school-based sex education and peer education as methods for delivering information. Conclusions: Participants expressed clear desires for relevant, high-quality sexual health information delivered through a variety of channels, especially the Internet, other mass media, and health care providers. Policy Implications: Findings call for policies that improve provision of sexual health information through health care providers, online resources, and school-based sex education. Introduction: Limited research exists about how receiving/seeking sexual and reproductive health (SRH) information differs by sexual orientation. Our goal was to identify how sources and topics of SRH information differed by sexual orientation during adolescence in a sample of US women. Methods: A sample of 8541 US women ages 22–35 years from two cohorts of the Growing Up Today Study completed a 2016 questionnaire measure about receiving/seeking SRH information before age 18 years. Adjusted log-linear models assessed differences in SRH information topics and sources by reported sexual orientation (completely heterosexual with no same-sex partners [reference], completely heterosexual with same-sex partners, mostly heterosexual, bisexual, lesbian). Results: Compared with the referent, most sexual minority subgroups were more likely to receive/seek information from peers, media, and other sources (e.g., community centers). With the exception of lesbians, sexual minority subgroups were more likely to receive/seek information about contraception, and mostly heterosexual and bisexual women were more likely to receive information about sexually transmitted infections. Conclusions: Findings indicate that women of diverse sexual orientations need access to SRH information from sources like schools, peers, and media. Sexual minority women receive/seek information about many SRH topics, which indicates that opportunities to tailor educational resources within and outside of schools are needed so SRH benefits to these populations are maximized. Policy Implications: Specifying sexual minority–sensitive educational materials in sex education policy can meet information needs and aid sexual minority women in making informed sexual health decisions. Objective: To assess differences in the relationship between violence factor exposure and tobacco product pattern use (exclusive and poly), we hypothesized that compared with heterosexuals, sexual minority youth would be more likely to report exclusive-tobacco and poly-tobacco use patterns, and controlling for violence factors would attenuate these associations.Study Design: Data from 27 513 US high-school youth were analyzed from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Youth Risk Factor Surveillance System from 2015 and 2017. We fit sex-stratified, weighted, adjusted log-Poisson models to compare past 30-day exclusive combustible, exclusive e-cigarette, and poly-tobacco use in across sexual orientation. Then, models were adjusted for past-year experiences of physical fighting, bullying, attempting suicide, and physical and sexual dating violence.Results: Compared with heterosexual girls with other-sex partners, sexual minority girls were more likely to use exclusive combustible, exclusive e-cigarette, or poly-tobacco products. When adjusting for violence factors, most tobacco use associations were partially attenuated for all sexual minority girls, and completely attenuated for exclusive e-cigarette use among all sexual minority girls.Conclusions: Sexual minority girls have greater exclusive- and poly-tobacco use compared with heterosexual girls.
